Code beneath worked perfectly with Access 2003.Now we switched to Access 2010 and it generates a table where data isn't put into my 77 fields like before, but seperated into 1 field, separated by some ;;;.I am not good with programming.
Dim rst_data As Recordset
Dim oldname As String, newname As String
DoCmd.DeleteObject acTable, "TBL_import_TPXP_Radi_Evvd"
DoCmd.TransferText acImportDelim, , "TBL_import_TPXP_Radi_Evvd", "N:APPLSHAREPRDQSIGMKTDISTPWBUSPB1815RADIEV IMPACT.CSV", False, ""

I have a file that I need to import on a regular basis. There are two different issues with the import:
1. the first digit in the file indicates if it is a record I want to keep. In this case a 1 indicates a repair record and an 8 indicates it is just information such as email, contact info etc.
2. I have a field in the file that may change the import specifications
For example:
If the record is a Non wheel repair then column 167 is a 50 character description
If the record is Wheel repair then column 167 is a 28 character description and the remaining 22 characters are broken down into 10 different fields
So I need to do the following
1. Read the first character in the line and determine if it is a number 1 and if not discard it
2. Read a field in column 109 that is two characters long and if it says it is a wheel repair the import will break column 167 -216 down to the appropriate 11 fields and if it is a non wheel repair it will import columns 167 - 216 as one big description field.
I have used the import specifications with Access but it seems this will have to be done in code in a module or something and I am not very good with VB. (only know the basics)
One other issue is I have dates in the file that are 130225 and 1302 (so full date and then Year/Month) if i take out the / date separator in the import spec the full date works but the Year/Month doesn't.

I have the requirement to write EACH record from a table to its own CSV file with name of the file being combination of 2 fields
So let's say I have Table1 with 3 columns (Field1, Field2, Field3) with following content :
Field1 Field2 Field3
AA 1 ABC
AA 2 DEF
AA 3 GHI
I should get 3 files with names AA1.CSV, AA2.CSV and AA3.CSV and each file contains its respective row from the table.
I tried to do it with DAO Recordset, but I do not find a way to write only the current record from recordset while looping.
See below the code I was using, but issue is that code does succesfull creates the 3 CSV files as per above example, but in each file it writes ALL 3 ROWS instead only the respective ROW.
Code:
Dim db As DAO.Database
Dim rs As DAO.Recordset
Dim strSQL As String
Dim strFilename As String
[Code] ....

Hi All
I hope someone in this forum can help me with this databse issue:
I want to load text file to .mdb MS access file.
I understand that BULK INSERT is possible only when using SQL Server database - not MS Access like I do.
Can someone advice what can be done ?
Can you think of an alternate solution, which is also effective (not inserting each record one by one) ?
BTW - I'm using ADO on visual studio 6 in order to access the database (not ADO.NET).
Thanks

I am importing csv files into tables in a batch routine and I get the following error messages. The error number is always 2391.
Field 'F1' Doesn't Exist in Destination Table
Field 'F4' Doesn't Exist in Destination Table
Field 'F36' Doesn't Exist in Destination Table
I understand the first one and can find references to this on the web but the F4 and F36 escape me.
All fields required do actually exist in the table so the real problem is elsewhere.
P.S. I now think that it may be that there are embedded commas in one or more of the text fields and that the number following the 'F' indicates the position of the field in the table. I will check in the morning or create the csv files using commas and quotes.

I currently use the following to import a csv file into a staging table and then append and save the data to a table - however it doesnt use the headings from the csv file and creates an error table and a blank record where the headings should be apart from one column where it copies the name.
Would it be possible to use the headings as field names or just omit them completely and use the standard f1 f2 f3 etc access generates in the tmp table?
Code:
With Application.FileDialog(msoFileDialogFilePicker)
.Title = "Select the CSV file to import"
.AllowMultiSelect = False
.Filters.Clear
.Filters.Add "CSV Files", "*.csv", 1
.Filters.Add "All Files", "*.*", 2
[Code] ....

Hi,
I have a text file with comma separated values. What I want is a single access query to import this text file into an access table. I know this can be done through import text wizard in access - but what I need is a single query.
I have done the same thing for transferring oracle data to an access table - but for text file to access, I am getting -7778 error.
This is the query I have written
SELECT * into MY_ACCESS_TBL from [odbc;Driver={Microsoft Text Driver (*.txt; *.csv)};Dbq=MY_TEXT_FILE_PATH;].[MY_TEXT_FILE.txt];
Please help!!
Regards,
Suneesh

Using Access 2007, can I return a value for CurrentProject.FileFormat WITHOUT opening the database?
I'm looking for a way to determine the file version of a given Access database without actually "opening" the database in Access (I don't want it to ever be visible at all or in any way).
So to open a database in Access 2007 "without opening it," I'm using:
Code:
Dim db As DAO.Database
Set db = DBEngine.Workspaces(0).OpenDatabase("C:Path-ToFile.accdb")
From here, there are at least two different "version" indicators that can be used, as in this example:
Code:
Debug.Print db.Properties("Version").Value
Debug.Print db.Properties("AccessVersion").Value
Now, if you run this code on an Access 2002/2003 .MDB file, you will get:
Code:
4.0
09.50
If you run this code on an Access 2007 .ACCDB file, you get:
Code:
12.0
09.50
Note two important factors:The db.Properties("Version") seems to be returning the JET version from what I can see in research. This is NOT what I'm after.
The db.Properties("AccessVersion") returns THE SAME VALUE for an '07 ACCDB as it does for an '02-'03 MDB, since Microsoft never updated it, apparently.
Now.... the one way that I have found that ACCURATELY describes the version of a given access database file is to use:
Code:
Debug.Print CurrentProject.FileFormat
...as this will always return, for example, 2.0 for an Access 2.0 .MDB file; 10 for an Access 2002/03 .MDB file; and 12 for and Access 2007 .ACCDB file (and there are others; these are AcFileFormat bitmask constants as described in Access support).
BUT, this CurrentProject object doesn't seem to be available (so far as I can see) when using the "open without opening" method described above.
SO, is there any way to return the FileFormat value without opening the database visibly? (Merely basing it in the extension isn't right either.... that would be easy but not accurate as several formats use MDB.

I have a command button on a form which loops through pages on a tab control and constructs an SQL string to insert a new record into a corresponding table (each tab has it's own separate table)
The tables are linked via a common account ID (an autonumber on a separate 'Core' table, the latest record for which is generated earlier in the code; this section creates a linked record in each of the other tables)
I've used a naming convention in each page such that each control name and it's corresponding field name in the destination table are the same (apart from the first 3 characters which I use to identify the control type, i.e. "chk", "txt" etc.)
For one of my pages, the insertion of the new record keeps failing. I've gotten it to work once or twice but only by randomly changing some of the values on the form (checking / unchecking boxes or keying data into random textboxes etc.) But I can't identify why it works sometimes and not others?
The other 3 tabs/pages insert records with no issue, every time.
I've tried debugging but I don't get any error message when I execute the constructed SQL; there are no apparent control violations and all of the relevant fields are correctly named & referenced. The only 'required' field in each table is the common Account ID, which is present, correct & not duplicated, so omitting null / empty fields or passing empty strings / values for the remaining fields shouldn't be an issue (?)
I can only assume it's a problem with a value being passed somewhere but what's stumping me is that on the other pages, it inserts the records exactly as expected (whether data has been provided or not)
Stepping through the VBA, it looks like a record should be inserted - but when I check the table, there's nothing there?
Code:
Dim pge As Page
Dim ctl As Control
Dim strSQL As String
Dim strSQLFields As String
Dim strSQLValues As String
[Code] .....

I'd like to add 600+ records at a time to a table (or at least a lot) and do this 1200 or so times. Yes, this is a very big table, its okay and the size is not an issue.
The key here is that speed is very important. I DO NOT want to AddNew and Update a recordset 700k times (one for each new record). I want to add 600 records or so 1200 or so times.
I am open to any way of doing this in VBA and/or SQL in MS Access; however, I am thinking of building an array that has 600 rows and 16 columns, then somehow add that to the table all at once. I will size the array down if it causes problems. That isn't the issue. The issue is how to add a 2d array to a table in bulk (all at once).
Code:
Sub test()
Dim dbLocal As DAO.Database
Set dbLocal = CurrentDb()
Dim sql As String
'build my array
Dim x(0 To 1, 0 To 1) As Integer
[Code] ....

I have a pretty basic TransferSpreadsheet module that works well except that if the Zip code has the four digit extension, it's not importing.
Option Compare Database
Dim myCheck
Function MeridianLinkFileImport()
DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet acImport, acSpreadsheetTypeExcel9, "tbl_MeridianLinkFileImport", "R:DEPT-BRCONSUMER LENDINGMarketing Campaigns2014 Auto Loan PrescreenReport from LoansPQ.xls", True, "Sheet1!A3:AO50000"
End Function
If there is no extention, it is importing fine... 85086 works fine but 85018-4710 doesn't import.
The field is a Short Text data type.

In an Access 2007 module, is there a way of sending an email to a list of people stored as a list in a table in the database, rather than having to put all the names into the function?
I have a function I'm using to generate and send out an email to certain people, but the list is constantly growing so I'm looking for a better way to manage it! The main issue is having to kick users out of the database every time I need to update the recipients list... because it's stored in the code.
If I create a simple table containing all the names, how could I then ask it to use that instead?
This is the function I'm using currently - found on here and adapted to my own purposes
Syntax to use for the function: SendNotesMail "recipients", "Body Message", "Additional Text", "Subject"
Code:
Public Function SendNotesMail(strSendTo As String, strBody As String, strExtraText As String, strSubject As String)
'This public sub will send a mail and attachment if neccessary to the recipient including the body text and additional comments from the Active record
DoCmd.OutputTo acOutputReport, "REP09emailnotification", acFormatRTF, "x: endersgroup tendering databaseTenderUpdate.rtf", False
Dim Subject As String
Dim Attachment As String
[Code] ....
So I guess my question is: how do I get my recipients from a table into the strsendto?
