Modules & VBA :: Browse For File Name And Place As String In Text Box?
Mar 10, 2014
I have created a form to send emails with attachments. The attachment path is specified in an unbound field which I have called [ToAttach] Rather than typing in the path, I want to use the browse function. I have inserted a browse button and can browse for the required file using following, but can't figure out how to place the file name in the unbound field as a string.
Code:
Dim f As Object
Set f = Application.FileDialog(3)
f.AllowMultiSelect = False
f.Show
I have a form displaying records. I would like the user to be able to select a button, browse for a file on a shared drive and link it to that record.
I have been exploring hyperlinking, which works for the most part, although I need it to display the share name rather than the drive assignment for that user. Such as drive1folder rather than C:folder.
Hyperlinking also unfortunatly requires the user to right click on a field select edit hyperlink then browse.
I would like to place an image file located at e.g. "C:MyImagesimage.png" into the clipboard. I have not been able to figure out how to do this. I have been able to place Text into the Clipboard using the DataObject late binding sub below.
Code: Public Sub PutInClipBoard(strString As String) Const DATAOBJECT_BINDING As String = "new:{1C3B4210-F441-11CE-B9EA-00AA006B1A69}" With CreateObject(DATAOBJECT_BINDING) .SetText strString .PutInClipBoard End With End Sub
I need to return a folders directory to a text box on my forms record called Files_Directory when i click the Browse command button... The folder will have more folders within it along with documents all relivant to the folder selected, hense the need for just the folder directory rather than a file.
I have a field in a form to which I wish to be able to browse to a particular PDF file. This location is then to be a hyperlink that when clicked upon, it will open the chosen file.
I have seen a thread already for file browsing, but it said to look at the VBA code, which I have no idea what it means :(

Hi,
This post was very useful, it really helped me out, but I do have one question. My database will be used by multiple users and will be stored on a mapped network drive, just as the files that I want to link to. Now unfortunately not all machines are configured the same, so the same network drive can have different drive letters depending on the machine and this might cause problems. Is there a way to modify the code to get the absolute network path instead of the drive letter?
I'm trying to add a control to my form that I don't know how to do.
On my form, I want the user to be able to click a button which will open up the standard file open dialog box. The user then will be able to browse through the appropriate directory and select an image file which will be saved on that specific record.
Attached is a strip down database as an example.
How can I do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated - I'm trying to do this for my work.
I have a column containing records of the timestamp of an event. I need to extract the date out of each of these records and put them in a separate table. The date and time of each record is contained within a bracket.
I'm having a small difficulty in using the code example ghudson posted for Browse [Find a directory or file]. First off, the code works great. Thanks a lot for posting it!
The problem I am having is when linking a folder via dBrowseDirectory. The folders I am linking are on a shared network drive and I am trying to figure out how to set the initial directory to default to the networked PC. This way the user doesn't have to navigate to the shared drive every time. All they would have to do is navigate to the particular folder to link (2 clicks instead of 10+).
The dBrowseFiles function allows to set an initial directory, however I cannot figure out how to set it for dBrowseDirectory. Is there any way to do this by altering your code for dBrowseDirectory?
I'm trying to add a search function the searches with ever letter I add to the string in the search box. if the string is not in the recordset then vbred the textbox.
Here's my code:
Private Sub txtGroupNr_KeyPress(KeyAscii As Integer) Set RstRecSet = Nothing Set db = CurrentDb On Error Resume Next If IsNull(txtGroupNr) Or txtGroupNr = "" Then ' MsgBox "Please enter a Group Number to use as the search criteria", _
I'm currently in the process of moving from Excel to Access and am setting up a user table with 5 Fields (Full Name, First, MI, Last, Alias). I would like to only transfer the Full name and have the other field be calculated fields, so they automatically fill in. I was able to get the "Last" field to work, but the others are being tricky. Especially the "Alias" field which would need to take the first letter of the first name, MI letter and the entire last name, like (JPDoe).
The current format of my "Full Name" field looks like, (Doe, John P.) without the brackets of course. I'm new to Access, so I was trying to use the Expression Builder to do all of it, unless there is an easier way?
I'm trying to figure out at what point an error message occurs while a database is closing. This problem only occurs if someone clicks on the red close button on the top right of the screen when there are several forms open. If the user exists normally there is NO problem.
I am attempting to use the print statement to write to a text file to track what is happening as the database shuts down. Unfortunately, the open (print) statement, when issued, zaps any prior contents which precludes having a full printed record. I am hoping for a print syntax that would allow appending.
Code: Open "ErrorReport.txt" for Output as #1 Appended text to the file to show what is happening in that event. Close #1
The program, in closing, does stop with an error message that a certain file can't be found. But when I click on debug, the program simply closes. I have also commented out VBA references to the file that can't be found, but the error still persists .
I am creating a database where I want to be able to browse to a file, select it and import it into a table. I am able to do this. BUt what I want to do is create a log of these imports and haveit include the path of where the file was inported from.
The field I am having issues with is the capturing the path of the file.
Below is what I am using to browse and import a file.
Private Sub Command5_Click() Dim dlg As FileDialog Set dlg = Application.FileDialog(msoFileDialogFilePicker) With dlg .Title = "Select the Excel file to import"
I have a field on a form which the user currently has to manually type in the file path to a specific picture on a local drive. After the file path is entered, the path is linked and the picture is shown in an image box. I did this because I didnt want to bog the database down with attached files.
I wondered if I could have a browse button, which when pressed brought up the browse window to allow you to locate the image (using the standard windows browser). Then when you clicked ok, it writes the filename into the correct field on the form.
I am provided a spreadsheet that contains multiple rows of similar data; each row/record represents a different stage in the process of financial transactions (requisition, purchase order, & voucher payment). Each financial transaction has these three records, with the amounts in one of three columns (pre-encumbrance, encumbrance, and expense), depending on the process.
What I am really after is the fuller, more detailed description that is apparently only available for the two records I don't want to import into the database (which is tracking only expenses and not the other two stages of the process). There is apparently no way to cross-reference these multiple rows due to the way the original database was designed (and we apparently have no control over this).
After importing the spreadsheet into Access, I would like to match the partial text string (truncated description) to the full description in another record, and update the record with the truncated description to the full description. To make mattes more complicated, I will also have to match values in the "pre-enc" or "enc" field with the "exp" field across these three records to make sure the correct descriptions are being matched because the truncated description will match multiple distinct records with the longer description.
What I would like to do is create a form that lets the user browse for an excel file, then will click an "import" button which then imports all the fields in excel into a table.
I want a user to click a button, have the file open dialog open, they select a spreadsheet, and then it imports into a table. The problem is the filename can be different every time. The table name will remain constant.
Here is the OnClick:
Code: Private Sub Command8_Click() On Error GoTo Err_ImportSpreadsheet_Click DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet acImport, acSpreadsheetTypeExcel2Xml, "Table1", "T_Staff.xls", "Yes"
I have set the decimal place property of a text box to 2. Then when i run a query that puts data in that box, the deci places are still well over 2..It lokks to be over riding it, how do I stop this?
I have a table with a field name compliance level which is filled with drop down list and having like this;
poor good excellent IR
Now what I want is if i select poor from list then in query it generate -10 in query field named analysis, same if select good then generate 10 and so on means i will assign numbers for each field...
One can select only one item like, poor at one record entry...
I have header table and a distribution table that both need to be written to a txt file. They need to be written in a certain order Header. Distribution. Header. Distribution. etc. There can be multiple distribution lines for the header line.
So far this is what I'm trying and its not working right. ~Legend~ hrst = header record set drst = distribution record set tblHeaderExp = header table exporting from tblDistExp = distribution table exporting from ~End of Legend~
I have a linked *.txt file and a qwery that returns the top 1 record from it. (The ideea is to check a value from one column of the file).Both the linked file/table and the query run corectly,I have a vba code on the on open of a form that is checking the query above mentioned (the form is on the Startup option of the database) and when I need to use the Dcount of the Query "
Code:
DCnt = DCount("Den_Fis", "Data_R_Mod_U$G9707014")
I get the "Runtime error 3625: the text file specification..." doesn't exist etc.I pres debug and test the query, I get the "Unknown Jet Error".I press Stop in the VBA and open the Qry - it shows what is was ment to show.I know the workaround is to make a maketable with the needed info and the Dcount on the local table, but it would add one query and one table to the database.
