Modules & VBA :: Conditional Form Formatting Depending On Field
Jul 2, 2013
I created a form that applies conditional formats depending on a field. It works fine, until you enter data into one of the conditionally formatted fields, then all hell breaks loose. Conditional formats totally go away and the cells go to #error.

What I am trying to do is create conditional formatting to colour fields within a form.
The conditional formatting option built in allows me to colour based on set values i.e. Value=Design turns green. I need to somehow say if Value contains the word Design turn green. This is because in addition to the word Design there will be a variable description. I tried editing the conditional format created by the wizard to Value="*Design*" but that didn't work.
Now I'm trying to write it in VBA code but am still struggling. Here's what I tried but it doesn't like it:
If InStr([Forms]![Query2]![Activity] Like "*Design")>0 Then
[Forms]![Query2]![Activity].BackColor = vbGreen
End If

I have some Conditional Formatting of a Currency Field in an Entry Form. The cell is conditionally formatted with a yellow background when the value is zero.
I now wish to add an additional condition to the expression such that even if the value is zero it will not be formatted if a specific check box is TRUE.
I have tried modifying the expression such that it reads;
[currency field]=0 AND [check box]<>TRUE.
It correctly turns off the conditional formatting if the check box is ticked, but does not turn it on again when the check box is unticked.

Is it possible to do conditional formating after a page break?
I have been given someone elses mess to clean up. It is a massive procedure which runs dozens of queries, then formats the results and pastes them into a word file at given bookmarks
For most tables there is one record for each lake. However there are several where many entries per lake. The logic being applied is that the font colour for the column is made white, then for each first instance of a lake name the font colour for that cell is made black again.
The problem is there are many times were the first row of data on a new page is not the first record for a particular lake making the reader have to flip back to the previous page to double check which lake they are looking at data for.
So what I want to do is leave the existing logic, and just add turning additional cell's (Column 1, after a page break) font colour back to black.

Is there a way to apply conditional formatting on a field based on the contents of another field?
For example, lets say I have the following fields
START_DATE
APPROVED_DATE
CAT#
DAYS_OPEN
The DAYS_OPEN field is automatically calculated in the query and is not a stored date.
My criteria is that if CAT# is 3, my days open should not exceed 30 but if my CAT# is 1 or 2, my days open should not exceed 60. I want to apply conditional formatting so that it turns yellow at approximately 80% of the date limit and red at approximately 90% of the date limit, otherwise the conditional formatting is green.
I know how to do conditional formatting, but no sure if it can be modified based on the content of another field.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Jim

I have a form that pulls in open project information that has a datetime field called "Duetime". What I'm attempting to do is that when this datetime field is less than 1 hour away, to turn the field background orange. Also, if less than 30 minutes to actually being past due, then it would be red.

I wanted to use a conditional formating when in a subform the field "Field_Name" has the value "Case Status New" and then the field "New_Value" should become orange color.
I guess it can be put togheter like a formula (expression) in the Edit Formating Rule.

Using Access 2013. I'm trying to do some conditional formatting on a field. I select the field in design or layout mode. I go to the Format menu, and Conditional Formatting (which is NOT greyed out). When I click on the Conditional Formatting option, nothing happens. What the heck? Where is the dialog?
I've rebooted my system, and tried every database I have (even created a new one), and I can't get the conditional formatting dialog to appear. Is there something stupid I'm overlooking? Do I need to have something in place before I can bring up the dialog?

My table fields are as follows:
1. Issued? (This is a lookup field with the following lists "Yes"; "No"; "NA")
2. IssueDate
I created a subform bound to the table.I wish to accomplish the following on the form:
1. If "No" is selected on the [Issued?] field, I want the [IssueDate] to gray out.
2. If "Yes" is selected, I want [IssueDate] to be required.
I set Conditional Formatting as follows:
Expression is ([Issued?]="No"), condition is disabled.
When I tested it, [IssueDate] grayed out when "No" was selected. However, when I select "Yes", it still remained grayed out.

I would like to know if this is possible using VBA ( or other method)
I want to determine the back color o a cell based on a color value stored in another cell in other word
backcolor of cell A = the value of cell B
So if I change the numbers of cell B (which is color codes) , backcolor of cells A change accordingly and it will have the color specified in cell B.

I am trying to get the text in a couple text boxes to turn green if a certain Yes/No field is left blank.
I know the conditional formatting is working, because condition 1 and 3 are working fine (those expressions are referencing text fields).
I would like to have Condition 2 look at [DM_Approval] from the bound query and if it is unchecked, execute the conditional formatting.
I've tried all kinds of statements, but i'm starting to think that the expressions in the conditional formatting window just won't work when referencing a yes/no field.
Specifically (at the very least) i know i tried [DM_Approval]=False, [DM_Approval]=No, [DM_Approval]=0, and [DM_Approval] is null.

I have a report that I would like to have the rows be a specific color based on the value in 1 field on the row.
I have attempted to use conditional formatting but it will not work (IE, I can get font color to change, but not field boxes to have color).
The field is labeled [text144] based on the value in the field (1,2, or 3) I would like the field to be a different color.
i.e.
3 = green
2 = yellow
1 = red

I have a subform with two fields [status] and [process], i am trying to get the backcolor of procces to change to red if the status field contains the text "expired".
I have tried vba. plced on the after update
if me.status = "expired" then
me.process.backcolor = vbred
else me.process backcolor = vbwhite
end if
this
Changes the color of the field [process] but also all process field colors to red even if the status field does not contain "expired".
I think conditional formatting is the way to go but i think i need an expression to complete this.

I'm having a spot of trouble trying to get conditional formatting to work. I have an overview form which displays current quotes going through the system, the QuoteStartTime field is generated from the Now() command.I Would like if possible to show, 1 hour = Green, 2 hours = Amber and 3+ hours Red.
I've tried variations of
hour([QuoteStart])>1
DateAdd("h",1,[QuoteStartTime])
I've done this before with a date only field before, but working with time is taking too much time.

Hello there,
I was wondering if any of you experts out there know a way to help me out here.
I was wondering if it is possible to color the text on the last pressed button on a continuous form different from all the others, so people will know which one they pressed last?
I've been trying a lot of different things here but i'm stuck. All i can get done is that all the buttons turn a different color, but doesn't solve anything.
I hope some of u can help me out here.
Greetz,
And thanx in advance,

Need to confirm whether the Default formatting option in the Conditional formatting Dialog won't work in datasheet view of a form. Please note that all conditional criteria are working fine but not the Default Formatting option - only in the Datasheet view (In Single Form view the default formatting is working fine)

Hello,
Could some kind person out there help me out please?
I have been 'dabbling in' the area of conditional formatting, particularly in the area of changing the colour of my active form based on the result of what’s output on a text box. I have had some success in this area but where I am getting confused is getting the colour of my form to change on the basis of what is entered into a text box control that does not match exactly. My forms background changes to the required colour when its value is ‘set exactly’ but what I am trying to achieve is to change it according to the first letter of entry regardless of what follows? It always starts with a letter, either a ‘D’ or ‘V’ to indicate whether its ‘Vital’ or ‘Desirable’ and is subsequently followed by no more than 6 numbers and finally a letter. Basically I need my form to change colour based on the whether it is either a ‘V’ or a ‘D’ irrespective of what follows???
What I have been using so far is:
Private Sub Model_Number_AfterUpdate()
If Me.Part_Number = "V111145K" Then
Me.Section(acDetail).BackColor = 12632256 'Light Red
Else
Me.Section(acDetail).BackColor = 8421631 'Blah Gray
End If
End Sub
Private Sub Form_Current()
If Me.Part_Number = "V111145K" Then
Me.Section(acDetail).BackColor = 12632256 'Light Red
Else
Me.Section(acDetail).BackColor = 8421631 'Blah Gray
End If
End Sub
Can anyone help me out of a ' sticky situation'..
Ta Very much
Carol

I have a continuous form on which where each record has many controls, including control (A). I wish to set the colour of this control based on the contents of another control (B). Control B is a memo format and is placed behind another control making it hidden. The idea being that the user can then click on control(A) and look at supporting information from Control B on another form.
Conditional formatting cannot be used since this only allows conditions based on the control (A), not (B). Event procedures cannot be used since they all depend on making a record the current record, and I want the user to immediately see when further information is available. When I apply VBA code using an 'on load' event it is action for all records on the form in a way that if only one record has extra information, all records are flagged in this way.

I have a continuous form with a text field that says "Select". There are two other fields, one of which is Brand. When the Brand Combo box has nothing in it I want the text box to appear (instructing the user to select a Brand) But once the user selects a Brand and goes to the next records, I would like the "Select" in only that record to become not visible. I tried conditional formatting but can't apply that to an unbound control ( or at least it is grayed out when I select the text box) and any other possible solutions I have found changes all of the selects - not only the one in the changed record.

Hi Guys,
I've a question and I hope you can help me out.......
I'm trying to use Conditional Formatting Options on a Text box called "Date". I'd like that this box become Red if its value is between value1 from Text box "Start Date" and value2 from Text box "End Date" or Green otherwise (in this way the color change dynamically every time I change the values of Text Boxes "Start Date " and "End Date"). How can I do that? What I need to type in the Conditional Formatting Windows?
Thanks a lot for you help!!!!

Hello
On my Database I have used Conditional Formattion to change the colour of the qty to highlight when the qty is getting low however its not as good as I would hope as there are different type of definition of quantity (D of Q) e.g. Each (single items such as a screw) and Roll (such as cord and tape)
Conditional formatting doesnt work well because if I have it as less than 10 the qty is in red, its ok for the each items however not the roll as 10 rolls of tape is more than we would need.
I am just wondering if anyone knows what the code would be to change the colour depending on the qty and the D of Q
All i have got so far is:
If me.qty <10 and DofQ = EA then
Now im stuck for the change colour part
Any help would be great

Does anyone know if there is a way in a report to display an entire row in a different color? I'm running a report based on a query and I need specific information to come up in RED. I read about conditional formatting but you can only apply it to a field in a report, but not to an entire row. Let's say I have a group of managers and I need to know the ones that are making more than $50,000 a year. I don't just want the salary to come in RED, I need the entire row (like name, last name, title, date of hire, salary, etc).
Any ideas?
thanks!
