Copying Objects From Plain Form To Tab Control

Oct 30, 2006

Hi,

I have an old form (see oldform pics) and a new form (see newform pics).
The old form has controls on it which work just dandy (well, at least they display and store information).
The new, tabbed, form however does not. What's up with that?
I simply created a form, created a tab control, went to my old form in design view, selected some objects, right-clicked-copy, went back to the new tabbed form, right-clicked-paste somewhere in the middle on the tab control, and... Presto! Nothing.... Just #Name?

Strange thing is, when I create the control, for example InitialCall, myself or using the wizard, the #Name? disappears, so then it works like it should.

What's going on? I need to do this for a bunch of controls.... and I would hate to have to do them all 140+ all over again by hand.... copy/paste would be so nice..... :)

When I try to execute that code, I get an error that the apllication can't start because the worgroup file is either missing or opened exclusive by another user.

Modules & VBA :: Using Access To Get Data From Excel Objects?

Aug 18, 2014

using VBA in Access and Excel. I have an Excel form that I am using to collect data as the front end and an Access database to house the data as the back end. In my Access database I want to create a module that will open the excel files and retrieve data from Active X combo boxes, option buttons and checkboxes that are on the Excel form. I have been searching for the VBA code to get data from these objects but have not been able to find any examples. How to reference these objects and get the values from the excel form

Modules & VBA :: Referring To Forms Objects Using Variables

Sep 30, 2013

I have a simple date stamp that works great in a private sub within a form. (error handling removed for clarity)

Code:

Private Sub btnDateStamp_Click()
' UserInit is global variable
Me!Notes.SetFocus
Me!Notes = Chr$(13) & Date & " - " & Time() & " - " & UserInit & _
" -" & vbCrLf & Me!Notes

[code]...

I am rewriting it as Module function that is Called from various forms, to save space. The function receives the parameters varFormName and varControlName. I wish to write the results of the function back to a memo field on the form.I am stumped at the get go by the need to refer to the Forms controls with a full reference instead of the Me command.

Code:

Function DateStamp(varFormName As String, varMemoName As String)
'varInitials, varFormName, varMemoName are global variables
Forms!varFormName.Controls!varMemoName.SetFocus ' Error here
'Me!Notes = Chr$(13) & Date & " - " & Time() & " - " & varInitials & _

[code]...

how to refer to the forms control's with their full reference, from within the Module's function, the rest will fall into place.

Modules & VBA :: Stop Objects Moving When Others Grow

Jul 18, 2014

I was wondering if there's a way to set objects so that they don't get pushed down if an object above is set as Yes in the CanGrow property?can a report be split into columns?

I have been asked to replicate a form (previously written up on Word) which has two columns of information. As luck would have it all the fixed fields are on the Left hand side, so that part doesn't need (or want) to grow, However, the Right hand side has several sub-reports which can display 1-5 records each.

So if any of the sub reports show more than 1 record, they push down everything below it, but this includes the Left hand objects, creating gaps and often pushing the report onto 2 pages.

Modules & VBA :: Textbox Grow And Cover Other Objects?

Apr 16, 2014

I want to keep the textbox small unless a user mouses over it, and they can then see all of the textbox contents. I've got code that will change it back to it's normal size after leaving the textbox as well.

Can I make the textbox "draw over" other nearby objects, so that it is in the foreground? Currently, the box grows, but it hidden by other nearby textboxes.

Edit: Well it looks like I just wasn't setting the Height large enough. I set it at .25 thinking it was in inches like it is in the property window, but I guess it's not. Seems to be working for now.

Edit 2: Not working afterall. It looks like it's working sometimes then the next time other objects will show through it. If I take a screenshot it looks fine in the screenshot no matter what it looks like on screen. Basically the check box and text box below the textbox I am making larger can be seen through said textbox.

Modules & VBA :: Creating Custom CommandBarControl Objects For A Shortcut Menu?

Aug 16, 2013

I finally got tired of having 100 macros managing my different custom shortcut menus, and decided to figure out how to generate the shortcut menus programatically (because lets be honest, Macros are the devil.)

I found a good tutorial here : [URL] .....

and was able to create some basic shortcut menus like the following:

Code:
Sub CreateCopyShortcutMenu()
Dim cmbshortcutmenu As Office.CommandBar
Set cmbshortcutmenu = CommandBars.Add("CopyShortcutMenu", _
msoBarPopup, False, False)
'ID 19 adds copy command
cmbshortcutmenu.Controls.Add Type:=msoControlButton, Id:=19
End Sub

Nice and simple, now I have a copy command. But the problem is that I also need some custom commands. Most (possibly all?) of these would be function calls.

Modules & VBA :: Network Crash - Any Way To Reconnect Objects Without Closing And Reopening Database

Oct 23, 2013

I have a database that runs a macro/report every 2 hours, however our network has been up and down lately. This causes the macro to fail when trying to log into the system because the table that is storing your username is no longer in the database. When I check, all tables, linked tables, forms, reports, macros and modules are all gone. I find the only way to get them back is to close the database and reopen.

What I want is a way to reconnect the objects without closing and reopening.

Is there a way to do this?

Modules & VBA :: Copying Value Of Text Box On Another Form

Jun 4, 2015

I'm trying to continue with my rebuild of our call answering screen. It's basically a form with a button for each company we represent, clicking the button will lead to a call answering screen for the company. we also have software that pops the correct screen when we receive a call for the corresponding company.

I'm trying to get some of the fields to autopopulate, starting with the telephone number of the caller. the number appears in a text box on the main form and I'm trying to copy it into the caller telephone box on the call answering form. I've got code in place but it gives me the error "you can't reference a property or method for a control unless the control has the focus". Here's the code for the form I'm working on...

Code:
Option Compare Database
Private Sub cmd_recordcomplete_Click()
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdSaveRecord
DoCmd.Close acForm, Me.Name
End Sub
Private Sub Form_Load()
DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec
txt_dateandtime.Value = Now
Me.txt_callertelephone.Text = Forms!Switchboard!txt_incoming.Text
End Sub

Modules & VBA :: Joining 2 Text Boxes And Copying To Clipboard

Jun 24, 2014

I would like to be able to join 2 text boxes and then copy them to clipboard. My initial fumbling has had me to joing the 2 text boxes as a string and then set that string as the value of another hidden text box and then copy that text box.

strOut = Me.Title & Me.Description
Me.CopyTxt.Visible = True
Me.CopyTxt.Value = strOut
Me.CopyTxt.SetFocus
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdCopy
Me.Title.SetFocus
Me.CopyTxt.Visible = False

This does work but I would like to format the output if possible to remove the element identifiers? The string copies out as below.

Title Information<div>Description Information</div>

Is it possible to remove the <div> and any other elements that may appear either using my method or another way. Not sure if they are appearing as the Title box is plain text and the description is Rich?

Modules & VBA :: Copying File To Specified Folder And Updating Records With New Location?

Jan 28, 2015

I'm currently working on a database to track and inventory documents in my organization similar to a library catalog, but with a digital archive as well. I'll need the ability to "attach" documents to records in the main inventory (though using links instead of storing it in the db) and have the documents live in a centrally accessible location on our shared server.

I will need to have this function work through a few different tables and in a few different iterations, but I'm trying to work on the simplest part first, which is attaching a thumbnail/preview of a given document to the record for that document.

I've got some VBA working well which opens the file picker and copies the file to a directory relative to the DB. It also creates a folder with each employee's ID number if it doesn't exist already (which it gets from the Windows log in) and adds "Copied_" to the front of the file.

Now I'm trying to get the VBA code to interact with the record. Presumably I need to tell the form button I'm using to launch the VBA code to pass the primary key of the record being displayed to VBA. Then, at the end of the VBA code I need to take that value and find the record again from VBA so I can update the MediaThumbnailLink in the original record.

Does this order of operations make sense? If so, how should I go about passing these values back and forth and writing the new link value?

Here's the VBA I'm using so far...

Code:
Option Compare Database
Public Sub GoCopyThumbnail()
Dim fDialog As FileDialog
Set fd = Application.FileDialog(msoFileDialogFilePicker)
Dim varFile As Variant
Dim LUser As String

[Code] ....

Modules & VBA :: Copying Records From Linked Table / Each Record Slower And Slower

Jul 30, 2015

I have an access db with a linked table (to Sharepoint) which contains about 15000 records. I have to copy those records to the local access db. To do this I have a bit of VBAcode. It works, but for each next record that is copied it takes a bit longer. When starting the program the records are copied quite fast, but soon you see it slowing down until after a couple of thousand records it just goes too slow to be usefull, meaning it would take a lot of days to copy all records.

What I now do is let it copy 500 records and exit ms-access completely and then start it again and let it copy the next 500 records. This works but is tedious as I have to do it about 35 times. Why this gradual slowdown occurs?

The VBA code is pretty straightforward.(I use VBA because I do a bit of data wrangling while reading in the values of the records)

Code:

Dim importdb1 As DAO.Database
Dim rsimportdb1 As DAO.Recordset
Dim i As Double
Set importdb1 = CurrentDb
Set rsimportdb1 = importdb1.OpenRecordset("2015")
Set rsMain = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("tbl_import")

[code]....

Modules & VBA :: Pasting CSV Data Into Text Box And Copying It To A Series Of Text Boxes

May 13, 2014

I have a form on which there is a series of text box controls relating to different frequencies. At the moment I enter a value in to each of these manually.

However, I would like to have an unbound text box where I can paste in all the values (6 or 8 of them) from excel and then press a button and they would be copied in to the individual boxes.

So far I have my design:

I'm not sure where to start with regard to the code as I don't know how to handle delimited text - is it column delimited in excel?

I imagine some sort of loop, such as a do until will be required but again not sure.

Modules & VBA :: Copying Data From One Form Into Text Box On Another Form

May 16, 2014

What I'm trying to accomplish is some sort of 'Order Confirmation' (filled with the info i have entered in my order form and sub_form fields) that i can copy and paste as a reply to their email-order.

I have taken 2 failed approaches so far:

1) I used a report to display the info

Private Sub Command103_Click()
DoCmd.OpenReport "Order Confirmed", acViewReport, , "OrderID = " & Me!OrderID
End Sub

This worked fine until the information was copied and pasted into outlook which upon doing so changed the column titles and layout

2) I used another form with a text box to fill with the data entered on the Order form

DoCmd.OpenForm "frm_Order_Confirmation"
[Forms]![frm_Order_Confirmation]![txtConfirmation_Text] = "Ref.:" & " " & [txtCustomer_Order_Reference_Number] & [vbNewLine] & "Item No.:" & " " & [cboProductID].[Column](1)

I got stuck here when trying to reference the data in the sub form... Also each order can have one or more colours and how to allow for this?
