Directory path is : B:

First and only level of sub folders:

there are 100 of these and they all end in ".fof"These .fof folders will always contain .txt files.I've tried using the following code, but it always returns No files found.

StrFileName = Dir$("B:*.txt")
Do While Len(StrFileName) <> 0

Modules & VBA :: Find All Files / Folders In A Specific Directory

Sep 1, 2014

I'm using a function to find all files/folders in a specific directory, then copy each one to a specific destination folder. I'm going to use this on a weekly basis to backup files on a computer. I would like to use the vbarchive in GetAttr/SetAttr so I only need to copy these if they have changed since last backup.

Something like:

If GetAttr(strFile) And vbArchive = 32 then
filecopy xxxx, xxxx
else
rs.movenext

As I understand it, a value of 32 indicates that the file has been modified since it was last backuped up (i.e. since the file attribute was "reset"). How do I "reset" the file attributes to clear the vbArchive?? I've read some google searches and the only thing I could find was the files were set to vbnormal however I'm concerned that this will erase program files that are vbReadOnly or VbHidden.

Modules & VBA :: Saving Excel Files Through Access In Particular Directory

May 4, 2014

I am using Access to save an Excel file in a particular directory. The code was created about 10 years ago and hence saves the file with .xls extension and I would like to save with a .xlsm extension. If I just change the .xls to .xlsm, in the code below, the file is saved but the Compatibility Checker comes up (I would like to stop this) and when the file is reopened I get an error message stating there is a file extension problem and the file won't open.

Code:
strExt = ".xls"
'If .txtFriendlyName <> "" Then
' strDestFileName = .txtFriendlyName
'Else
' strDestFileName = Left(objFile.Name, Len(objFile.Name) - 4) & MakeFilePosfix(Now())

Modules & VBA :: Operate Macro On Multiple Files In A Directory

Jul 21, 2015

I have contract notes files in .xls format towards sale of equity shares from the brokerages. I have to do some editing in these files like deleting some rows, adjusting width of columns and inserting date of contract.

a) Contract-A.xls shows original file.
b) Contract-B.xls shows modified file
c) VBA macro code used for deleting rows and modifying column width is shown in modify_contractnotes.xlsm file.
d) Presently I open the file and copy and paste the contents on the macro-enabled workbook sheet . After macro operation I transfer back the contents by copy and paste to a master file(Contract-C.xlsx) and clear the contents in the macro enabled workbook to make it ready for another operation.
e) It is time consuming process for around 60 files per month.
f)After this operation I run RDBMerge add-in to consolidate and normalize all these files in a directory. RDBMerge smoothened out merged cells also.

Is it possible to have a macro-enabled workbook open all the time and the contract files be opened one after other and macro contained in macro enabled workbook by modifying its code suitably operate on these contract files.

Files are attached in modify_contractnotes zipped folder.

Modules & VBA :: Count Number Of Lines In A Text Box

Oct 17, 2014

I have a memo field that feeds to a textbox control on one of my forms. I would like to re-format the textbox using the .Height value based on how many lines appear in it (i.e. it will fit only 3 lines if there are 3, but 5 lines if there are 5, etc.).

Is there any way to count the number of lines that appear in the textbox?

Access Collection Of Files And Folders?

Nov 12, 2011

Is there a good way to let Access be the database for collections of files and folders (on a Windows PC) that would organize projects and give information about the files. When I say information I mean description, progress(check in & check out duration of work, and timers), and location. I think this would work with organizing our projects and knowing what file is the current one we should be working on when we have many. A while ago I was working in FileMaker and noticed that one of there template options said "Collection of Files".

Tables :: Import Txt Files -> Text Converted To Number

Jan 18, 2013

I'm having a number of tables in Access which I want to populate with data from excel/txt. In my import files I have some columns which contain alphanumeric data, like 0001 or XYZ0.

I've defined these columns as text in the definition of my table, however whenever I'm importing the text file, it converts those rows that can be read as a number to a number prior to storing it in my table. Hence values like 0001 becomes 1. Which is absolutely not what I need.

How I can prevent Access from doing this conversion? Why does it do the conversion anyway? I wouldn't expect any conversion since I defined the column as text...

When I import the same txt file into a new table (created during import, where I also define those columns as text) everything goes fine, 0001 stays 0001, but I don't want to remove my table and redefine it during the import everytime I need to import new data.

Modules & VBA :: Import Multiple Excel Files With Different Number Of Sheets Into Table

Jul 12, 2015

some code I've come up to in order to import multiple excel files each of them with a different number of worksheets into an access table. The procedure is called from an Access database. The problem I have with the code is that when it encounters a workbook with only one worksheets (e.g. Sheet 1) it gives the error that "Sheet 2$" is not a valid name. When geting to a workbook with 2 sheets it says that "Sheet 3$" is not a valid name and so on and so forth. Is there a way to "check" the number of sheets in the workbooks and when it has only one sheet to transfer it and go to the next file?

Below is the code:

Code:
Sub ImportExcelFiles()
Dim strFile As String 'Filename's
Dim strFileList() As String ' File Array
Dim intFile As Integer 'Number of files
Dim filename As String
Dim path As String
DoCmd.SetWarnings False
path = "D:Tranzactii"

Modules & VBA :: How To Import Data From Text Files Into Access

Nov 6, 2014

I have a text file that details every single incident that happened in the system. This means that it is extremely messy and non-comprehensible to a normal person due to the use of codewords and all.

Is it possible to scan through the document and insert the data into access, such that the different keywords are put as seperate events?

Ps, the number of characters between each event and data may not always be the same, so seperating them by that is not the way to do it. However, when I open the file in notepad++, I can confirm that each event is 6 lines.

E.g. Line 1 = Event timestamp, Line 2 = Event Name, Line 3 = Acknowledged or not, Line 4 = Acknowledged by who, Line 5 = Event Details, Line 6 = Application Owner.

Basically, the 6 lines are the 6 columns that I would need in my table. So, is it possible to separate out and read every 6 lines of data in the text file?

Modules & VBA :: Count Number Of Rows In A Table?

Nov 10, 2014

I need to write a code that checks if every 6 lines in a table contains a string. If it contains the string, then carry on looping, but if it does not, it will delete the current line and the previous 6 lines before it. The program should then continue looping through the entire table.

For example,

Code:
Apple
a
b
c
d
e
Apple
f
g
h
i
j
Apple
l
m
n
o
p
q
Apple
.
.
.

I need to find the string "apple" in every 6 lines. So, that means that the first 2 Apples are fine, but for the third one needs to be deleted as it contains 7 lines instead of 6.

Modules & VBA :: Count Number Of Fields Have X As A Response

Nov 20, 2013

I have a form that records followup activities for protocols. The form allows the user to enter up to six f/u actions from a dropdown menu in six separate fields (called fu1_action, fu2_action, etc).

I am trying to write a query that retrieves only protocols that only have one f/u action selected as "telephone correspondence" and am having trouble. It seems I could write a function in VBA that would somehow loop through the 6 f/u action fields and give a value of 1 to those that have 'telephone correspondence' as a response, and then add them up to give a total of calls for that specific protocol, and then in a separate query only retrieve those that have a total number of calls = 1, but how to get started in writing this.

Modules & VBA :: How To Count Number Of Events Based On Type

Dec 3, 2014

I have a table that contains many records of events. I've already created a multiple item form based on the table. My form contains 2 textboxes for input of a date range and a dropdown box to select "yes or no".

What I am having difficulty with is the query that will count the records by type insert it into the recordsource such that the multiple item form will appear like this:

Event Type| Count
Input | 4
Output | 2
Update | 3

How do I go about doing so? I have been testing with this simple query:

Code:
Private Sub Command8_Click()
Dim Task As String

Task = "SELECT EventType, Count(EventType) FROM Final GROUP BY EventType;"
Me.RecordSource = Task
End Sub

But the column that contains the count keeps appearing as #name?

Modules & VBA :: Count Total Number Of Integer In A List

Oct 7, 2013

In one table, I have a few fields. One of the field is "ItemSequence" and another one is "TotalPcs"."ItemSequence" is where user key in the sequence number for one or more item. 5 example for possible content of "ItemSequence" is as following :

1) 7
2) 4,6,9
3) 5-9
4) 3,5,9, 23-25
5) 3-5, 8-10

"TotalPcs" is the total number of items key in to "ItemSequence". For the 5 example above, the related "TotalPcs" should be as following:

1) 1 (1 item, which is item 7 alone)
2) 3 (3 item which is item 4, 6 and 9)
3) 5 (5 item which is item 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9)
4) 6 (6 item which is item 3, 5, 9, 23, 24 and 25 )
5) 6 (6 item, which is item 3, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 10)

For time being, the user have to count manually to get the "TotalPcs". I wonder is there a way to calculate the "TotalPcs" by programming?
