Data Extraction

Nov 18, 2004

Hi,

Our shops use MS Access to save the details of customers. The shops have to submit us the customer records at the end of each month. How can they make some settings (e.g. query) to extract only the modified records and new records of that month? For example, at the end of Nov 04, I just want them to submit the modified and new records of Nov 04. Records created in or before Oct 04 should not be extracted.

Many thanks.

Memo Field Data Extraction

Mar 1, 2007

Hi, i have a fox pro memo field that has bill of materials information in like so:EACH KIT COMPRISES

1 CR10070SW £29.60 HALLITE PRODUCT
1 RBS24690 £0.82
1 RBS354 £0.95
2 RBS345 £0.75
1 S95MMEXT £3.90

£36.77 PER KIT

I need to take out the carriage returns but keep the items delimited in some way so they all apear on the one line. These are the child parts for kits so i need to keep them on one line as i import them or via a query so i can see the parent part they belong to. I can then extract them for upload into our system retaining the association with the parent part.

Thanks

Modules & VBA :: Text String Extraction - Expression Builder?

Jul 15, 2014

I'm currently in the process of moving from Excel to Access and am setting up a user table with 5 Fields (Full Name, First, MI, Last, Alias). I would like to only transfer the Full name and have the other field be calculated fields, so they automatically fill in. I was able to get the "Last" field to work, but the others are being tricky. Especially the "Alias" field which would need to take the first letter of the first name, MI letter and the entire last name, like (JPDoe).

The current format of my "Full Name" field looks like, (Doe, John P.) without the brackets of course. I'm new to Access, so I was trying to use the Expression Builder to do all of it, unless there is an easier way?

Modules & VBA :: Outputting Data To A Csv File?

Mar 5, 2014

The main complications are that the output file requires fields from several tables, and there are some rather long and complicated calculated fields to be included as well. My choices seem to be :

1) Create a complex query, including the calculated fields, and use DoCmd.TransferText

2) Create a report and then use TransferText

3) Use DoCmd.OutputTo (I haven't looked into this to see if it has any benefit)

4) Create an intermediate, temporary, Table and then run a simple query to output it using TransferText.

I tried selectSingleNode but no solution yet.

Modules & VBA :: Extract Specific Data From A Text File

Dec 4, 2013

I want to extract specific data from a text file and place it in my table. The following is an example of the data:

Display Author="All Saints" Title="On & On" Genre="Pop" Color="7693971" Tag="2"

I want to extract the following:

Where the word Author= appears to extract the data between the double quotes, so in the above case I want to extract "All Saints" excluding the double quotes. And then where Title= appears extract "On & On", again excluding the double quotes. So I would end up with data in my table looking something like this

strArtist [Author] strSong [Title] strGenre [Genre] strYear [Year]
All Saints On & On Pop
America Venture Highway Rock 1972
Amillionsons Misty Blue Pop 2002

my table is name tblMusicList, the fields are:

strArtist
strSong
strGenre
strYear

Modules & VBA :: CSV File Manipulation - Parsing Data Into Array

Jun 9, 2013

I'm trying to parse the following into an Array by splitting the csv file using a "," comma separator. There should be 63 different data pieces in this File. When I do a count of them from the (ubound array) i only get 54. The last data piece on each row gets concatenated to the first data piece of the next line. Is there a way to stop this from happening? This is causing problems with working with the data.

Queries :: Postcode Extraction When There Are Double Space On Some And Not Others

Any way to extract a postcode when there are double space on some and not others.

SA1 1AB (i need SA1 1AB)
HU1 2AB (i need HU1 2AB)
HU17 0BG (ok)

For some reason the postcode field returns 2 spaces when the postcode length is only 6 digits and 3 spaces when the postcode length is only 5 digits. Im assuming that the postcode field needs to be 8 characters in length (including a space).

All I want to to remove the addition spaces and return a normal looking postcode!

Modules & VBA :: Determine Excel File Type Without Opening The File?

Aug 14, 2015

Question: Is it possible, using VBA, to determine the actual Excel file type without opening the file?

I receive data files from other departments. Seems like every time someone changes their download structure, I end up with file types that do not match the download extension (example: xlm file with a xls extension). The files can't even be opened because of this. I think I can fix it if I could figure out how to determine what the file type really is.

I'm using Office 2010.

Modules & VBA :: File Open Dialog Does Not Allow Selection Of All File Types

Oct 4, 2013

I recently upgraded a DB from 2003 to 2013 and ran into the following problem.

I have a button that opens a file dialog box and allows the user to upload a file to a predetermined location (and store the address as a hyperlink). I borrowed this code from someone else on here and modified it slightly.

In any case, the button still works, but now when it opens it doesn't have an option for "All files" under file types. So I can upload MS Office files, text files, etc., but not PDF files which are by far the most common types my users upload.

Here's my code and a screenshot is attached.

Private Sub Command35_Click()
Dim dd As Integer
Dim fileDump As FileDialog
Set fileDump = Application.FileDialog(msoFileDialogOpen)
dd = fileDump.Show

Modules & VBA :: Filesystemobject File Picker Does Not Highlight Initial File

Const kInitialFile = "F:TestbedTest.txt"
Set fdFileSelection = Application.FileDialog(msoFileDialogFilePicker)

When I execute it, the file picker goes to the right folder but does not highlight the file test.txt even though that file name shows in the File name text box. Is there any way to correct this?

General :: Mail Merge Word File (using Data From Access File)

Mar 11, 2014

I often create contract using mail merge. I have an access file that I want to use as data source for word file. But it does not automatically.

Please download the attached file !

If there are 1 customer and 1 property, I do not need to do anything. Conversely, if there are many customers and many properties, I take time to manipulate.

Firstly, I open the word file. I have to copy and paste paragraphs that I want. Highlight of the original paragraphs is blue.

Secondly, I click 'Insert Word Field' -> select 'Next Record'.

In short, I wish to use VBA in access file to automatically perform the steps that I have outlined.

Extraction Of Values Using The "Default Value" Field

Jul 20, 2006

Hello,
I manage an access MDB, which contains two tables.
In one of the tables (Table A), I would like to insert a "Default Value" that will be extracted from the other table (Table B), everytime I add a new row.

For instance, the value I would like to extract from Table B is "900".
When I add a new row in Table A, I would like it to use "900" as the "Default Value".
But tomorrow, for example, the value in Table B will be "910", and so when I add new rows in Table A, I would like them to be "910", but at the same time I don't want the rows that I added a day before to change (from "900" to "910").

I tried going to the "Design View" and under the "General" tab, use the "Default Value" field by using an SQL query, but that didn't work (or maybe I just did something wrong).

How can I do this?

Thank you!
