Plz Help - Import Data Formatting Changed
Mar 10, 2008I hope that someone out here can help me with this. I have recently had a format change from how I received updated data for my database. I used to update my tables from TXT files. There were several update queries/macros written to import the data from 5 or 6 different TXT files into one table. Well; my source has changed :eek: The downside: I can only get my data from an XLS or CSV file now; but the upside is all the data is only in 1 file.
The macros/queries were written years ago and I've been having migranes trying to figure out how this was all done. So, i've sort of started from scratch. I can easily import the data into a table; I have even gotten our front end of the database working so it's just a click of the mouse again.
The problem I have is that the data that is in this table is linked everywhere throughout this spiderweb of a database! I was unable to import my data into the existing table because that table's field names are different than what I have in the XLS file. I get all sorts of errors when I do this. So I am currently importing into a new table. (I.E. MASS and MASS Imports)
Is there an easy way to update data from table 'MASS Imports' to 'MASS' ?? what I was thinking was to use an update query with both tables and link each line.... Or am I way off base? Is there an easier way to do this?

Feb 24, 2014I created some VBA imports from a saved Excel file. When I run it on my computer, it works fine. When my coworkers run it, they get an error "Type mismatch." Some files seem to upload despite the error, but I'd like to figure out why it's happening, especially for cases where the data doesn't import. As a band-aid, I added a line in my error handler that says if the error = "Type mismatch." then just resume.

Feb 19, 2007I have an Excel spreadsheet. I need to import it into Access, preform calculations in several queries, create a new table (I will call it Table2), and then export it to a new text file. I have a data type issue though.
I need to do this monthly, using the same spreadsheet with updated data.
My steps are:
-Update the linked Excel spreadsheet. (I will call it Table1)
-Run a query to delete the data in Table2.
-Run an append query to update Table2 with my calculations and data from Table1 ****I need my end result to have specific data types different from the Excel spreadsheet(Table1)****
-Export to a text file.
If I do an update query my data types change because I drop Table2. I need my data types in Table2 to be different from Table1.
With my append query I get a conversion type error. I know why I get this and that makes sense, but I do not know how to solve my problem.
Can someone help me, please?
Automate Data Type Conversion At Text File Import

I need to import a text file into an existing table in Access. The text file has been imported once and is working well and everything. However, since I had to change some of the datatypes to be able to query the table correctly, I now cannot import the text file anymore unless I change the datatype of the table itself. Since someone other than I will be doing the imports from here on out, changing the datatypes everytime is out of the question. I was looking at the TransferText event, but I didn't seem to see anything about converting data types. I can think of two options, and neither are probably possible:
1. import using the wizard. Since I didn't see anything related to the types of data, I don't think this will work...
2.import using TransferText. This doesn't seem to give me any opportunity to change the datatypes either. Is there anyway to programmatically change datatypes, or is there possibly an easier way that I'm overlooking??

When I try to run it, I get a "data type mismatch" error. When I put the same code into a query, I get the same error. However, it will run if I delete either condition from within the (WeekOrder = 1 AND Letter1 = "XYZ") pairing. I can't figure why it can run with either of those, but not both together.
WeekOrder is defined as String. Letter1 is calculated as Cstr(Nz(IIf(Letter,"XYZ","ABC"))) within [qryScheduleCombinedDetails], because I wanted to make sure that it would be recognized as a string.

When I try to open a recordset based on this sql, it gives me the runtime error - which is odd since I don't have any criteria in the statement.
I think the problem may be that vba is somehow adding a line break between "fullvals" and "18", but I don't know why it would do so and it doesn't always (only if the string is long).

On the Word Form, these two fields are drop-downs with three options: blank, No, and Yes. If the users leaves them blank, then Access ignores them--which is what I want. However, if the user says yes or no, Access puts a "-1" in the database. Both the Word form and Access field are text.

Jul 11, 2013I have a fill-in pdf form, with fields that match database table fields. My database is in SQL, but I use Access for the forms and reports.
The users will go on-site (and be offline), fill out the pdf forms a bunch of times and come back with a folder of them.
I am looking for a way to have a form where a user can choose a folder (maybe on an access form) and say "import PDFs" and then have all the data in the PDF forms import to the table. A lot of other stuff has to happen in that process (checking the project number on the form, assigning an ID tag for that item, etc).

Dec 4, 2014I get XML's from a site and want to import the data to Access. If I use the native import then I get multiple tables and the data is a little jumbled. For instance: I get 1 table with track names and a different table for track numbers with no way to relate the to accurately. I would like to be able to parse out the XML and have it update my table as it goes so I have less "junk" in my DB. I just can't figure out how to call out the XML tag and tell it to copy that info to the correct field.

Nov 6, 2014I have a text file that details every single incident that happened in the system. This means that it is extremely messy and non-comprehensible to a normal person due to the use of codewords and all.
Is it possible to scan through the document and insert the data into access, such that the different keywords are put as seperate events?
Ps, the number of characters between each event and data may not always be the same, so seperating them by that is not the way to do it. However, when I open the file in notepad++, I can confirm that each event is 6 lines.
E.g. Line 1 = Event timestamp, Line 2 = Event Name, Line 3 = Acknowledged or not, Line 4 = Acknowledged by who, Line 5 = Event Details, Line 6 = Application Owner.
Basically, the 6 lines are the 6 columns that I would need in my table. So, is it possible to separate out and read every 6 lines of data in the text file?
