Modules & VBA :: Run-time Error 3021 While Updating Existing Record In DAO Recordset

Jun 16, 2014

I have a linked table to a DB2 database. this table contains key-pair values and has about 140k records.

I use a Sub to update the value of a specific record.

The sub starts by opening the needed DAO recordset
Then it uses the rs.Findfirst method
It checks if rs.Nomatch is not true (so the records exists!)
Then it starts updating the record with
rs.edit
rs!value1 = myvalue1,
rs!value2 = myvalue 2
rs.Update
There is where I get the '3021 No current record' error

I use the same sub on the same table to update to different parts. One part works the other gives me the error.

I have checked for typos.

Modules & VBA :: Combo Box Unexpectedly Updating All Fields In Subform

Oct 19, 2014

I have a sub form that adds and displays appointments related to an order. The form has two combo boxes, cboVenderTypeID and cboVenderID and a date picker. There is a 3rd combo box on the parent form called OrderNode. The contents the cboVenderID combo box are filtered by the selections made in cboVenderTypeID and VenderID comb boxes. This works fine and adds the appropriate appointment to tblAppoints. The problem is when I try to add an appointment with of a different type (different value in cboVenderTypeID) all the values in the existing appointments change to the latest value selected in cboVenderTypeID.

Private Sub cboVenderTypeID_AfterUpdate()
Dim strSQL As String

Modules & VBA :: Creating A Record And Then Updating With Additional Info In Various Fields

Apr 24, 2014

In the code below I am creating a record with the INSET INTO statement and then Updating with additional info in various fields. it is not working the way I thought it would, so I am trying to create the record in it's entirety.

Code:
SQL_Grade_GUSD_ID = "INSERT INTO Grades (GUSD_Student_ID) VALUES (" & Me.GUSD_Student_ID & ")"
SQLM1_1_ELA = "UPDATE Grades SET Grades.Subject = ""BM1(ELA)"""
SQLM1_2_ELA = "UPDATE Grades SET Grades.Type = ""Exam"""
SQLM1_3_ELA = "UPDATE Grades SET Grades.Score = ""0"""
SQLM1_4_ELA = "UPDATE Grades SET Grades.Nam = ""GUSD BM-1"""
DoCmd.RunSQL SQL

[Code] ...

I am running to syntax problems when I try to USE the INSERT INTO to create the record with all the info in one statement.

Code:
SQLM1_1_ELA = "INSERT INTO Grades ( GUSD_Student_ID, Subject, Type, Score, Nam ) " & _
"SELECT (" & Me.GUSD_Student_ID & ")"" AS GUSD_Student_ID, ""BM2(ELA)"" AS Subject, " & _
"""Exam"" AS Type, ""0"" AS Score, ""GUSD BM-1"" AS Nam " & _
"FROM Grades"

I am Getting this error:

Syntax error (missing operator) in query expression '(12345)" AS GUSD_STUDENT_ID,
"BM2(ELA)" As Subject, "Exam" AS Type, "0" As Score, "GUSD BM-1" AS Nam From Grades'

Forms :: Updating Fields Via Code Not Updating Table

Dec 16, 2014

I have a form that has combo boxes and text fields (as well as sub forms). There is also a button linked to some code that says'

Private Sub cmdQuote_Click()
'Creates quote date and prints quote
Me.QuoteDate = Now()
Me.cbAgentID.Requery
DoCmd.OpenReport "Quote", acViewPreview, , "BookingID = " & Me.BookingID
End Sub

When the button is pressed the QuoteDate field (it is bound) should be be populated, but unfortunately it is not. I have played with refresh and requery but cannot derive a solution.

Updating SubForm Fields From Main Form Fields

Jun 20, 2006

Hey Everyone,

I am stuck trying to figure out this problem. I have a main form "frm_tirelog_600" which has 4 combo boxes "cboleg",
"cbocar", "cbopos", "cboserial" on it. The first 3 combo boxes are used as criteria on 1 of 3 subforms that I have.
The fourth combo box "cboserial" is used for the criteria in a query on another subform that I have called "frm_mount_600_subform",
which is independant from the main form, I hope I have explained that clearly enough. What I need to be able to do is
have the subform fill in 3 of the fields on it "leg", "car", "pos" with the value from the 3 combo boxes on my main form. I
can get it to show in the fields but not write to the table. I have searched the forum and have not been able to locate anything
that would work and really need any assistance with this. Im not real strong in the coding department which is where I
beleive this could be done.

I have attached a copy of my DB which I hope will better explain it. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Error With Updating Combo Box

Sep 7, 2006

Hi,

I have a form with various fields, some of which are normal data entry fields, others dynamically updating combo boxes.

My first field is a date field which defaults to today's date, the field following this is a growing combo box which requires some narrative to be entered. I have set up this combo box so as when data is entered into the combo box, the combo box will store it, allowing that entry to be used again. I achieve this with the Got Focus property Me.Refresh.

An error occurs when the user wishes to change the date from the default to another date. When I tab to the narrative field, Access informs me that the error occurs with the Me.Refresh property of the narrative field. I want to keep this property to allow me to update the combo box entries but I can't keep allowing this error to occur.

Does anyone know how I could solve this problem/get around it?

Thanks

KV Error's On Updating Serial Numbers

Nov 28, 2005

Hi,
I have a table that uses SerialNo as primary key. From time to time (its a long story...) I need to go in and update the SerialNo by adding x to it. Here's the problem: lets say the table has SerialNo's 1,2,3,4,5, and I try to add 1. I get 4 KV error's because of course, 2,3,4,5 already exist in the table. (So I would end up with 1,2,3,4,6 instead of 2,3,4,5,6.)

I really thought that Access should be smart enough to figure out that there really won't be any key violations after the updates are done, but I guess not.

So, what's the easiest way to deal with this?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Run Time Error Updating Record -- HELP ! Please....

May 11, 2005

I have an orders Form with a subform for products. In the subform the user selects each product by first selecting the product category from a combo box, which filters the query for the second combo where they selects the product. Once this is done, I need the record to up date, but Access gives a run time error 3058: Index or primary cannt contain a null value.

In this case I belive the key field is the product_id form my 'order_detail_table' where this is a shared key.

I've been beating this to death (it's killing me!!) for a couple of weeks now and got nowhere. Maybe someone out there can have a look and see what my obvious mistake is ... (I've attached a cut down version of db with just tables, query and subform)

Thx.

Updating Record (3251 Error)

Aug 17, 2005

Hi, I've tried everything to get this to work with access. I can get it to work with SQL but unfortunately in this case I can't use SQL. Problem is that when I try and update the record, I get an error saying that the update method is not supported or that the lock is incorrect. It's a 3251 error.

Here's the code I'm using:

Dim dbConn2 As ADODB.Connection
Dim dbRst2 As ADODB.Recordset

Set dbConn2 = New ADODB.Connection
dbConn2.Open "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source= R:myAccessDB.mdb"

Set dbRst2 = New ADODB.Recordset

dbRst2.CursorLocation = adUseClient
dbRst2.CursorType = adOpenDynamic
dbRst2.LockType = adLockOptimistic

Set dbRst2 = dbConn2.Execute("Select ROAD_ID FROM GIS_MSLINK_ROADID WHERE MSLINK" & " = " & UserForm2.slsn_textbox1.Value)

dbRst2.Fields("ROAD_ID").Value = UserForm2.slsn_textbox2.Value

dbRst2.Close
dbConn2.Close

Set dbRst2 = Nothing

Updating Fields

Feb 2, 2008

Here's my problem:

I have a table called WorkOrder. I have fields labeled:

JobID, which is an autonumber
WODate, which is formatted as =Date()
and WOID, long integer

Here's what I want to do and have done:

On my form I have WOID control source set to:

=Format([WODate],"mmddyy") & Format([JobID],"00")

I know that storing calculated values isn't the preferred method but it's what I've done.

The problem is I have a cmd button on the form, that when clicked asked for the WOID. This button is based on a query to print a specific work order.

The problems is that this calculated value (WOID) isn't appended to the table so nothing exists when the cmd button is click and the WOID is entered.

How can I update the table with this WOID for the specific job?

Search Key Error 3709 On 2 Fields In The Table - All Other Fields Allow Update

Aug 21, 2013

I have a copy of the back-end that gets a search key error 3709 on two records. In other words, I can duplicate the problem.

The interesting part is that I can update any other field on both these records and save the record, but when I try to change two specific fields, I get a Search Key Error and have to ESC out to continue (basically UNDO the change). Both fields are text fields with lengths of 7 characters and 255 characters, and both are COMBO Boxes on the form.

I tried to focus on the form think there was an issue in the code. I can definitely TRAP the 3709 error on the ON ERROR event on the form using "if dataerr = 3709", but then I tried something even simplier.

I went directly to the table and to each of the records. Again I can update any other field in the record but these two specific fields. When I try to change either of them and move to another record, you get a Search Key Error 3709.

By going to the table record directly I'm as low level as I can get. There are no validation rules on either field at the database level. If it was truly CORRUPT would it let me update any of the other fields on either of these records? One is an empid (not a primary key but is indexed with duplicates okay and not required), and one is status code (not a primary key but is indexed with duplicates okay and not required) so they're no critical fields, but something is keeping them from CHANGING.

Just tried something else; deleted the INDEXES on both the fields. Now it works! I am completely confused now because it really wasn't a corrupt record, but the indexes are causing the problem. Do I need to update the indexes somehow when the users selects a new empid or status code?

I was trying to us an AfterUpdate on a texbox to run some VB that would run a SELECT statement to get the current value (InStock), subtract the value in the textbox, and run an UPDATE statement to update InStock. But all I got were a lot of errors saying that I was using mismatched objects and nothing was getting update. Please help.

Forms, Updating Fields

Jun 22, 2007

Hello,

I have a form where there are four fields that the user selects via a drop down combo box: account number, Group, Name and Date. The entire form is linked to a table named 'Questionaire', but all of the drop down selections are sourced throw other tables and queries. At the end of the day, all of the information flows to the 'Questionaire' table, which is the DB's main table. Subsequently, there is also a subform as part of this form, but that is beyond the question here.

What I am trying to do is change my Group field to be something that automatically populated by the database and not something that the user needs to identify. For instance, when the user begins to enter his or her information into the DB, they input their name, date, and account number....once the account number is entered, i would like to have the group automatically generate and NOT be something they must choose.

The possible account number selections are driven from a different table named 'Accounts', and in this table are the fields: Decription, Group, and so forth.

What do I need to code or build in order to have the 'Group' ID automatically update when the 'Account' number is entered?

Thanks for your assistance with this.

Updating Linked Fields On Forms

In this case the second form opens to a blank screen instead of showing the JUVIS field. The forms are both linked to tables not to queries. Any help would be appreciated
