Modules & VBA :: Excel Running Access - Returns No Results On 1st Go
Aug 6, 2013
I wrote some code in Excel to open and run a module in Access. The code executes, but when I check the results I get no records, however if I just step back 1 line and rerun the query, I get records. Alternately, if I run the code twice it will get results the 2nd time.
The OpenCounter opens a Session in the terminal screen then performs a macro that writes to a temporary table.
Here is the code:
Dim db As ADODB.Connection, Rst As ADODB.Recordset
Dim Acc As Access.Application
Set db = New ADODB.Connection
db.Open "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=" & DBPath
Set Rst = New ADODB.Recordset
[Code] ....
One thing I tried with limited success was to tell the OpenCounter to open and close the table after it was done writing to it, but that seems like a lazy solution and it also doesn't always work.

Good morning,
I am having some kind of problem. A query in Acces that is used to find results in the DB is asking 2 time's te input.
And there is no way that the input boxes is asking to do this twice..
here is the Query,
SELECT tblHotlines.Hotlinenummer, tblHotlines.Vestigingsnummer, tblDealers.Postcode, tblHotlines.Datum_hotline, tblBestellingen.Chassisnummer, tblBestellingen.Onderdeelnummer, tblBestellingen.[Uitleverings datum], tblBestellingen.[Vervangende auto ingezet?]
FROM (tblHotlines LEFT JOIN tblBestellingen ON tblHotlines.Hotlinenummer = tblBestellingen.Hotlinenummer) LEFT JOIN tblDealers ON tblHotlines.Vestigingsnummer = tblDealers.Vestigingsnummer
WHERE (((tblHotlines.Vestigingsnummer) Like [Geef het vestigingsnummer op] & "*") AND ((tblDealers.Postcode) Like [geef evt een gedeelte van de postcode:] & "*") AND ((tblHotlines.Datum_hotline) Like [Geef de datum op:] & "*") AND ((tblBestellingen.Chassisnummer) Like [Geef het chassisnr op:] & "*") AND ((tblBestellingen.Onderdeelnummer) Like [geef evt het onderdeelnr op] & "*"));
Qhat could be the problem that Access is running a Query twice before getting results

Am running a query in Excel on an access table that uses lookup columns. The query is returning in excel with the right data but is returning the lookup value number rather than the data stored inside. How can I return the actual data value rather than the lookup value number.
i.e I have a list of areas
NY
CT
WA
in a lookup column.
User selects CT so is lookup value 2. But I want excel query to return CT.
How can I do this?
thanks

I am creating a database for a hyperthetical car hire company. A customer hires a car from and until a certain date. If a new customer decides to hire a car i want to generate a list of cars that he can choose on depending on the other dates from which other cars are hire from and until. I have created a query that generates all of the cars that the new customer can not use.
I have also generated a list of all of the cars, in the database.
I have created a new query takes the numberplates of all the cars and subtracts the numberplates of the cars that are being used.
This is where i hit a problem. For some reason the query is generating the list of number plates twice and then subtracting the numberplates that are being used. This leaves me with with 2 values for every numberplate that can be used and 1value for every numberplate that cannot be used. Can you help me?
Please post your email address so i can send you the zip file as the file is too large to upload. The query that i am having problems with has the title:SEARCH FOR AVAILIABLE CARS.
Thank You

Hi all,
I think this could be another one of my stupid moments. Here is my query expression -
IIf([WHAT TEAM?]=1,[strCurrent_Team]="FINANCE",[strCurrent_Team]<>"FINANCE")
When run, the user is prompted to enter a team number. If they enter 1, then by my reckoning the query should return all records where [strCurrent_Team] = "Finance".
However, no records are returned.
strCurrent_Team is formatted as text.
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong here?
Cheers,
Rob

Hi,
I'm trying to create a database project for college and have run into a problem with a query. I am trying to find all bookings that have taken place in the last month, but with added details from other tables.
I have taken the job details and date (with validation for the last month only) from my Jobs table, and this works perfectly. However, when i try to match customer IDs to their names (stored in a seperate table), Access returns the same job multiple times with every customer name possible.
Any help you can give me to return just the one result needed would be greatly appreciated.

I have a form with a list of names. When a specific name is selected from the list, a button is clicked and a query is run with the specific name as the criteria/filter.
I've written code to export these same query results to an Excel sheet, and I want the Excel file name saved with the name selected in the form.
Below is the code that I've written that doesn't work.
Code:
Dim strFileName As String
strFileName = SelectedItems(Me.lstName)
DoCmd.OutputTo acOutputQuery, "qryFocal_Sheet", acFormatXLS, "C:JRSWorkEquityFY2015" & strFileName & ".xls"

I have successfully used VBA to populate select query results into an excel worksheet on open, for a co-worker. Now I am trying to populate the records from an append query to the bottom of those results, which are now in a table on an excel spreadsheet, Contractor EIF. I am trying to make this work because my co-worker modifies the results in the table, deleting rows, adding fill color etc. and as new projects begin he would like those added to the projects already in the table (without rewriting the entire table).
Private Sub Window_Open()
Dim strDB As String
Dim strMyPath As String
Dim strDBName As String

I'm creating an item look-up form with 2 criteria that I wan't to auto-filter as the user types. I'm placing my code in the Change event of the textbox, and only calling the .text for the current textbox (.value or no property at all for the other). The filter works smoothly and as intended until it returns no results in my table, and then it pops me with the error. I've tried forcing focus to the textbox in different places throughout the code, but to no avail. If I use the .value or no property for the current textbox, I'm not getting the CURRENT text, but the old text before it was changed, so the filter doesn't work properly.
Private Sub txtVendor_Change()
Me.FilterOn = True
Me.Filter = _
"((strSearchVendor Like '*" & Me.txtVendor.Text & "*' AND strSearchItem LIKE '*" & Me.txtPartNum & "*'))"
Me.txtVendor.SelStart = Len(Me.txtVendor.Text)
End Sub
It usually pops the error on the last line "Len(Me.txtVendor.Text)", but I've had it do it on the Me.Filter line as well (only when debugging and messing with next statement placement).

I have Access 2010. If I run this query
Code:
SELECT Reference,
InStr(1,FunctionThatReturnsLongString(), ResponsiblePerson) As MyField
FROM MyTable
WHERE
(Reference ='ShouldBeOut'
OR
Reference = 'ShouldBeIn1'
OR
Reference = 'ShouldBeIn2')
It returns 3 rows, with values in MyField of 0, 23 and 355.
Now I add 1 more where clause to filter on MyField and the query looks like this:
Code:
SELECT Reference,
InStr(1,FunctionThatReturnsLongString(), ResponsiblePerson) As MyField
FROM MyTable
WHERE
(Reference ='ShouldBeOut'
OR
Reference = 'ShouldBeIn1'
OR
Reference = 'ShouldBeIn2')
AND
(
InStr(1,FunctionThatReturnsLongString(), ResponsiblePerson) > 0
)
So, you would think that it should return 2 values (ShouldBeIn1 and 2), but it doesn't. It only return the value where the Instr returns value of 23. The one with the value of 355 also disappears. Why would that be? Surely Instr does not return a byte?

I'm new to Access, but a coworker has a huge project to undertake. There are over 200 queries that produce 1 row results for each query. She's been cutting that row and pasting it into Excel 200 times. Is there an easy way to insert them 1-by-1 into Excel or prefereably Access?
BTW, the columns are the same on the query results. I'll keep investigating while I wait for the experts to answer.

So I'm having timing issues trying to print data from an Access (actually SQL Server) based query to a Excel Spreadsheet. Basically I'm trying to get around using MS-Query and last week I didn't seem to have any problem as far as performance. However, when i tried running today it seems I've had a slow down of at least 500%. The data I'm trying to print is quite large (few hundred records and about 140 fields) so I expect some performance issues. Like I said though i just can't undestand the decrease. Possibly machine performance?
Anyhow, I've tracked the bottle neck and no suprise it is in the loop, I'm just suprised it takes so long to loop through the recordset.
Here's my code, any help will be appreciated?
'Generate grid to dump data
If intRecordSetCount > 0 Then
rst.MoveFirst
'Loop through length and width and display results
Do Until rst.EOF
intRSTField = 0
intFieldCount = intField
For intIndex = 1 To intColumnCount
Worksheets(strWorksheet).Cells(intRowCount, intFieldCount).Value = rst(intRSTField)
intFieldCount = intFieldCount + 1
intRSTField = intRSTField + 1
Next intIndex
intRowCount = intRowCount + 1
rst.MoveNext
Loop
Else
MsgBox "Recordset has not been initialized or does not exit"
End If
'Define name range
ActiveWorkbook.Names.Add Name:=strRangeName, RefersTo:= _
"= '" & strWorksheet & "'!R" & intRow & "C" & intField & ":R" & intRowCount & "C" & intFieldCount, Visible:=True

I have a query that includes several columns, one of those columns shows returns on investment as a percentage. I need to figure out the annualised returns on investment using the following excel formula
{=PRODUCT(1+B1:B24)-1^(12/24)-1}
This formula gathers the percentages for the last two years then provides an annualized amount.
I'm just wondering whether this is possible to apply to the query so that when I open the query it can provide me with the 2 year annualized statistics.

I have just installed the windows version of Access 2010 on OSX Mountain Lion using a program called Crossover which works very similarly to WINE. I have found that Access will install fine except for VBA form modules and BAS modules, although there seems to be no indication that they did not install as the entire install progresses fine.
I've put together an invoicing program that was created in Access 2010 in Windows but have transferred it over to Access 2010 installed on OSX. It contains a number of forms with code but when I go to VBE, form code modules are not visible. When I try to view the code for a form I get the following error message: "Microsoft Access failed to create the Visual Basic module. If your database is on a network drive, check your network connection, then try again". I was able to insert a BAS module and create a rudimentary VBA subroutine which ran without error so it does seem able to interpret VBA as per normal.

Hey guys-
I have a database of properties for sale. I want to calculate the asking prices of each record (for sale) against the sold prices of all the houses in the same area. Area is defined as a numeric number, and each property has one assigned to it. My question is this-
I have a table of all the properties. Do I run the query and store the results in a specific cell in the table- and then use a form to display those results? Or do I run the query from a form and not store the calculated results at all? I will be adding/updating info on a daily basis, so these calculation results will also change daily. Obviously I am fairly new to Access and trying to figure out how to do this stuff. Using Access 2002. Either way, I assume i'll be using a form to display the results one way or another...
Thanks!

I have an unbound form with a subform which is bound to a query. The subform prioritizes and individually lists all projects my company has on its agenda and the project’s corresponding cost. Is it possible to enter a dollar figure (which would represent our budget) on the main form and have the subform list only the top prioritized projects whose running total costs would fit within the budget figure stated? Any help would be appreciated as I don’t even know if this is possible. Thanks.

I have an Access 2010 application that talks to SQL Server. Part of the application creates tables on the SQl Server and inserts data to it (I know SQL Server has its on data inport/export wizard and bulk insert capabilities but for reasons outside of my control it needs to be done from Access). So I have a connection to the SQl Server and i have VBA that happily executs SQL statements on the SQl Server. The problem is I want to return a recordset from the result of a SQL query issued to the SQL Server. The idea being to check for the presence of tables already created, and if so, append to the already existing table, otherwise if it does not exist, create it and insert data to it.Ive tried the following code but it seems no recordset is being returned:
Set objConnection = New ADODB.Connection
objConnection.Open "DRIVER={SQL Server};SERVER=10.200.3.14;trusted_connection=yes; DATABASE=" & Me.Combo54
strSQL = "SELECT TABLE_NAME FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES WHERE TABLE_TYPE = 'BASE TABLE' AND TABLE_NAME = '" & Me.Combo54 & "'"
strSQL = "USE " & Me.Combo54 & " " & strSQL
Set Rst = cmd.Execute("USE " & Me.Combo54 & " " & strSQL)

Upgraded from Access 2003 to Access 2010. My DCount query was working fine in Access 2003 for many years but now I am having issues. Everything is written in VBA.
Routine:
1.) Insert records into table tblEmployee
2.) Query table tblEmployee to count how many employees are in each department using DCount.
Issue:
DCount returns 0 for all Departments.
Findings:
If I manually open table tblEmployee and edit an employees department (I actually named it the same department), DCount will then find 1 person in that department (the record I manually edited). It seems a manually edited record will be counted but anything written by the insert query is ignored.

" where SupplierID = " & lstPOHdr.Column(1)

Dim RecordSet1 As DAO.RecordSet

Below is a snippet of the code that I use, the user is promoters for a week, this has always worked and still does for any number less than 245. I dont know if 246 will work yet as I dont have that data.
Is there anything that would cause an integer with value 245 not to work? The query does still return values when I run it manually with value 245 and the strings for the query are all correct, hence why it works perfectly until you try and run it for week 245.
Code:
' Excel Objects:

I'm trying to import an excel file that includes a column of Part Numbers that I am interested in. I am trying to import that excel file into an access table called 'TableForImport'. That table has a column called 'PartNumber'. Thing is it's not just one Excel file that I am uploading...although I am uploading one file at a time. So the column name for each excel file table is different but they all have one column for the Part Numbers that I am interested in.
My code won't allow me to import the excel file into table 'TableForImport' unless they have the same column name! They never will! How do I accomplish my task without editing the excel file information? Here is my code:
Code:
CurrentDb.Execute "CREATE TABLE TableForImport " _
& "(PartNumber CHAR);"
DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet acImport, acSpreadsheetTypeExcel12Xml, "TableForImport", Me.ExcelInput, True

I'm using the OnLoad event of a form I've got as a placeholder to load a report from the onclick event of a button on my continuous form, and loading a chkbox into the code as a string variable.For some reason, when the DB automates the procedure, I get a 'Type mismatch' error appear, but when I step through the code using F8 it works.
when I press F5 after the code has stopped I get the 'Type mismatch' error.The chkbox contains a value of '-1', and I've used debug.print to return the TypeName and VarType values, which were 'String' and '8' (which I took to mean 'String') respectively.
There are other variables being declared in the code, and I commented out the whole lot and put each one back in individually before running the code as a process of elimination, and the checkbox was the one that threw up the error again.
Code:
Dim Prod1stSend as String
Prod1stSend = me.chkProd1stSend
We are using the code to determine whether our clients have been contacted by us before, as this will decide which report is opened. I've tried setting the variable as Boolea and Variant too, and both of those still throw up the same error.
