when you accidentally press return.. or do something in the wrong order.. or apply one rule to one control.. and then another control rule stops working..
so you have to delete the code.. right click on the control's event.. and re-insert the code into the event section.. and then it works..
Question: Is it possible, using VBA, to determine the actual Excel file type without opening the file?
I receive data files from other departments. Seems like every time someone changes their download structure, I end up with file types that do not match the download extension (example: xlm file with a xls extension). The files can't even be opened because of this. I think I can fix it if I could figure out how to determine what the file type really is.
I have recently upgraded to Access 2013 and this has updated all my object library references to 15.0. The problem is that my colleages are still using Access 2010 and when they try to use the database they are receiving a missing reference error.
I have removed the Excel reference but this gives me the 'object type not recognized' error when running the code.I have tried to download the 14.0 reference libraries in order to add them back in but for some reason the installer doesn't work.
I would like to have a button in a form that the end user clicks and they then enter the name of the tif file they are looking for and on pressing enter the file is searched for and if found it is automatically opened up for them to see, if it is not found then a message "File Not Found" is displayed.

It's when I get to this point that I've got stuck, I don't know how to structure the code required to do the search and on finding the tif file open it.

I have a folder in which there are PDF files stored. Now in the Form, there is a combobox and I want the code so that when a Form is loaded then add all those PDF file names(only first 9 letters of that) in the combobox.
e.g if the PDF file name is ABCDE1990-YYY then add ABCDE1990 in the combobox. So if there 10 PDF files in the folder then add 10 names in the combobox.
I was trying to access this particular MS-ACCESS file which serves as a DB for a software. I am trying to create some code for a button in a report that will follow a hyperlink to a specific file. The problem I'm having is that the files that are at the end of the hyperlink can have various extensions (*.doc, *.docx, *.pdf, etc.) I'd like to be able to put a wildcard in the code to allow the opening of the file regardless of the extension.

What I want to do instead is open an existing .XLSM wokrbook delete or update the 7 sheets it creates and replace them with the new query results from access.
I love this code below because it works really well but now I have a new requirement. I have a workbook that has a "dashboard" sheet that looks at the sheets from acccess and summerizes the data. So, I'd like Access to open that "template" excel workbook and delete the old sheets and put in the new ones..The required sheets to keep are called "Metrics", "Validation" and "Mara"

All I need to do is copy an excel file from a location (while coping the file, the location of the source file remains same all the time)and paste that excel file where ever I want (Browser Option) from an Access VBA.
Any definitive way of exporting a query to an Excel file and then saving it as a new file without saving over the original.

The error seems to be with the SQL statement although that may just be the first error that it got to. I read that you can't refer to a Query if it has a criteria and that you have to write the SQL directly into the code.

However, if I close out the excel and click the button again, it errors at the line "ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets("Ref").UnProtect", with the message "Run-time error '91', Object variable or With block variable not set". i want to make an excel file from a query and then export it to mail. i want to make an excel and then send it as an attachhment. also i want to insert the mail address to manually because each time it is sent to a different person.
I want to delete an excel file from within access vba. Problem is that if the file is open, it obviously cannot be deleted. so I need to check to see if that specific excel workbook is open and if it is, I want to close it before I can delete it.
All of the answers here involve creating an excel object and opening it before closing it. If I do that all that happens is a second instance of the workbook opens then closes leaving the originally open workbook still open.

The above code demonstrates my problem, if the import.xlsx file is already open then the code just opens another instance of this workbook and then closes it again leaving the original workbook open and as such cannot be deleted.
