Modules & VBA :: How To Export Unbound Columns To Excel - Mismatch Error
Apr 14, 2014
I am using MS Access and Excel 2007. I have a query that I need to export to a specific sheet in excel, and the vba is working great and doing what it should. Problem is, some of the data is being exported as numeric, not as text which is what I need. I have several tables related to one another and the fields that were created with the LookUp Wizard and the ones that are not exporting property. From what I have read online, the data that is being exported is from the bound columns, which are the primary key "ID" fields. I have read online that I need to JOIN tables so that Access knows how to identify the foreign keys, but no matter how I do that, it is still exporting the "ID "fields and not the description.
Here is the SQL that I am trying to export:
SELECT tblSampleNew.*, qryProjectSearch.Company, qryProjectSearch.ProjectName, qryProjectSearch.SampleDate, qryProjectSearch.SubmissionDate, qryProjectSearch.SamplePriority, qryProjectSearch.DueDate
FROM qryProjectSearch INNER JOIN tblSampleNew ON qryProjectSearch.IDNumber = tblSampleNew.IDNumber;
the qryProjectSearch.Company is one of the fields that is exporting incorrectly. I have tried to JOIN it to the original table by adding in this expression to the SQL above:
FROM qryProjectSearch INNER JOIN tblClients ON qryProjectSearch.Company = tblClients.ID
This gives a mismatch error, since one field is text type and the other is number, but even when I adjust that, it is still exporting as numbers and not text.
The annoying thing is that when I go to External Data --> Export to Excel Spreadsheet, every exports as text like I want!

Im trying to export a query to specific columns in excel and im using this code.
Code:
Dim objXL As Object
Dim xlWB As Object
Dim xlWS As Object
[Code].....
I tried it on other querys and it works but doesn't work on this specific one. I get an error on the "set rst = currentDb" line. And to my knowledge it doesn't work because I have a between two dates filter in it. So when I run it, I get an error saying I have too few parameters, expecting 2.
Also it seems to be exporting the lookup id's not the value when exporting(on the query that it did work on)

I'm writing to an excel file from two separate Access tables, for which I'm using two separate DAO.Recordsets in VBA.The first table has 190 columns, the second table has more than 66 columns, so more than 256 columns will be written to the excel file.So I'm not expecting any error due to any maximum of 256 columns, but still I'm getting an error while trying to populate the 257th excel-column:
Run-time error '1004': Application-defined or object-defined error.(The same VBA works fine when I use another table with less columns.)Even more strange: on another computer I did not get the error and I was able to populate more than 256 excel-columns.
Code:
Option Compare Database
Option Explicit
Dim xlApp As Excel.Application
Dim xlWkb As Excel.Workbook
Dim xlWks As Excel.Worksheet
Dim FileNameOut As String
Dim RowNr As Long
Dim ColNr As Long
[code]....

I have used the following script to export a subform to excel but it isn't working for a report.
The report name is spelled correctly etc... but the error message keeps saying error 2465 or if I enable the error handler it says application defined or object defined error.
I don't want to have to export the data to a table first, but if I have to then I guess I will have to.
Code:
Sub fFunctionNameExportExcel(ctrl As IRibbonControl)
'print to excel
Dim rst As DAO.Recordset
Dim ApXL As Object
Dim xlWBk As Object
Dim xlWSh As Object
Dim fld As DAO.Field
Const xlCenter As Long = -4108
[Code] ....

I'm using Access 2010 and I want to export a query to Excel by clicking a button. Every time I click on it Excel opens but doesn't open my worksheet, it's just gray like you just open the program without a table. After exiting it Access tells me I got a run time error 1004: the open-method of the workbook object couldn't be executed. After opening my Excel file it says that Excel found unreadable content and asks if I want to restore the content of the workbook.
Here is my code:
Code:
Private Sub Befehl62_Click()
Dim cdb As DAO.Database, qdf As DAO.QueryDef, SheetName As String, xlApp As Object
Set cdb = CurrentDb
Forms!Export_to_Excel!txtSheetName.SetFocus
SheetName = Me!txtSheetName.Text
[code]....
where my problem is?

So I have a macro in excel which imports data from the excel sheet to a table in access db. Now the excel file has 4 columns which have dates.
- I imported the excel file from access via access so that I can get the heading of the table and the table is created. Then I deleted all the data in the table.
- When the table was imported 2 of the date columns got set as Short/text data type. Dont know why.
- Now, if I leave the data type as it is in Access table, my macro button in EXCEL works fine and imports the data to Access. If I change the data type, in access design, of the two data columns to date type, I get the type mismatch error when I run the import macro button in EXCEL. I am going nuts over this error. I even created a blank table in access and defined data types to all columns which would be imported from excel. but still excel macro button shows the same error.
I checked the format of all the four date columns is date.
I did a lot of hit and try and could it be the case that if access table fields are defined properly, but any of the data columns cells in excel sheet is null/empty, it will show the type mismatch error.
is it possible and is there a way, that once the data is imported to access, I can convert the value in the column from short text to date type.

I am getting a "type mismatch 13" error on this line
Code:
PrinterSel = Nz(DLookup("Device", "tblPrinterSelection", "Doc='" & DocumentType & "'" And "Computer='" & sHostName & "'"), "No Printer")
All vba variables are defined as strings. All fields in the table are text.

common error in VBA imports. It has happened with spreadsheets and text files I have users importing. An error message pops up "Type Mismatch." But the import appears to work correctly. So I added code that On Error, if error Like "*Type mismatch*" continue to next step. Now the user gets a longer error message: "The expression On Click entered as the event property setting produced the following error: Type mismatch." Again, the import still works, but this message is annoying! The even stranger thing is that I do not get this error message on my machine. Just the other users.

Is there any way to 'Export' the selected column (user selected columns) as CSV. I have attached a mockup (screenshot) that gives a clear thought about the scenario. The 'User' will be able to select the 'Columns' for the export of 'tblInventory' and by clicking 'Export as CSV' button will export the 'Selected' columns as CSV.

I am trying to get my VBA module to find the ID of a Member Number from a table using a dlookup but I keep getting a data type mismatch error,
Code:
Dim Answer As String
Dim varX As Variant
Dim rst As Recordset
Dim strSQL As Integer

In the table the ID field is an automatic number and the Member Number is a short text field.

I have vba code that creates the following SQL:
SELECT SubscheduleID, EventID, WeekOrder, DayID, StartTime, EndTime, Priority, CanJoin, PatientTitle, PatientNickname, IncludesPatient, IncludesAftercare, Letter1
FROM [qryScheduleCombinedDetails]
WHERE (SubscheduleID = 1 AND IncludesPatient = -1 AND DuringAftercare <> "AC only" AND (WeekOrder = "All" OR WeekOrder = 3 OR (WeekOrder = 1 AND Letter1 = "XYZ")) AND DayID = 2 AND StartTime <= #8:00:00 AM# AND EndTime >= #8:30:00 AM#);
When I try to run it, I get a "data type mismatch" error. When I put the same code into a query, I get the same error. However, it will run if I delete either condition from within the (WeekOrder = 1 AND Letter1 = "XYZ") pairing. I can't figure why it can run with either of those, but not both together.
WeekOrder is defined as String. Letter1 is calculated as Cstr(Nz(IIf(Letter,"XYZ","ABC"))) within [qryScheduleCombinedDetails], because I wanted to make sure that it would be recognized as a string.

Anyway I've got a type mismatch that I can't figure out.
Code:
dMaxLstReq = DMax("reqNumb", "FlightLog", "Month([txtDate])='" & frmMonth & "'" And "Year([txtDate])='" & frmYear & "'")
In plain english: Select the highest value in the field named reqNumb from FlightLog where the Month of txtDate is equal to the variable frmMonth and the year of txtDate is equal to the variable frmYear.
txtDate is a Date/Time field in the table FlightLog
frmMonth and frmYear are both integer variables that take the system time (sysTime) and determine the month and year: I.E.
Code:
frmMonth = Month(sysTime) & frmYear = Year(sysTime)
Am I correct in thinking that the fact that my variables are integers and not times, that this is the cause of the mismatch?

I have built in code a long sql statement as follows:
SELECT Age, BirdType, Flock, House, [Lab#], Organ, Origin, SampleDate, SampleType, Site, Source, SourceGroup,
[VT#], ProfileID, APIName1, APIAmts1, APILevels1, FullVals1, Match1, APIName2, APIAmts2, APILevels2,
FullVals2, Match2, APIName3, APIAmts3, APILevels3, FullVals3, Match3, APIName4, APIAmts4, APILevels4,
FullVals4, Match4, APIName5, APIAmts5, APILevels5, FullVals5, Match5, APIName6, APIAmts6, APILevels6,
FullVals6, Match6, APIName7, APIAmts7, APILevels7, FullVals7, Match7, APIName8, APIAmts8, APILevels8,
[Code] ......
When I try to open a recordset based on this sql, it gives me the runtime error - which is odd since I don't have any criteria in the statement.
I think the problem may be that vba is somehow adding a line break between "fullvals" and "18", but I don't know why it would do so and it doesn't always (only if the string is long).

The key field is the specimen number and specimen type. Currently for every antibiotic there is a row with its result. My output is 3 complete worksheets so a lot of data. I need to create a database with one row per specimen number/type to include whether it is S/R/or I for each type of antibiotic. The example probably makes more sense. but I'm assuming that 65000 rows * 3 sheet can then be reduced to around 18,000 rows.

I'm having an issue with the database being read only and a type mismatch due to OpenRecordset. I know this database use to work when it when it was just
CurrentSerNum = RecSet(0) +1 was doing the incrementing.
I need the database to increment in a different way now.
Q=manufacture location
1st number is new=0 or used=1
2nd and third number =82
4th is single digit year aka 2015 = 5
6 and 7th are work week aka 25 for this week
8,9,10 are incremental numbers for the units made that workweek, so 001,002,003.
Then week 26 starts the increment starts back at 001.
Code:
Private Sub MakeThoseProducts_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_MakeThoseProducts_Click
Dim NumericSerial As Double
Dim WorkWeek As String
Dim WorkYear As String
Dim WorkWeekNumber As Integer
Dim WorkYearNumber As Integer
Dim Location As String

So I had this code working and then I cleaned it up a little and it no longer works. It should export data from a created query using criteria selected by the user on a form and put it into an excel file that exists. I get no errors but it does not export anymore. After pouring over it for a while checking for mistakes with my form control references and variables I have yet to find anything. I did change my form name and edited the code accordingly after I already had it working, and changed a few form settings but changing them back did not fix the issue. I am not very experienced and stumped since I am not getting error messages.
Code:
'First set variables for the SQL string and CreateQueryDef command
Dim strExport As String
Dim qdf As dao.QueryDef
'Then define the SQL to be exported (Static Response Info by ItemID)

I have a main form with two subforms. I'm trying to get my code so that it allows me to put 1 subform on one tab and the other spreadsheet on the other tab.Heres my code:
Code:
Option Compare Database
Public Function Send2Excel(frm As Form, Optional strSheetName As String)
' frm is the name of the form you want to send to Excel
' strSheetName is the name of the sheet you want to name it to
[code]...
It won't let me pass more than one subform when I call Send2Excel, so I have to list it twice, which opens two excel files.
