General :: Connecting Access Database To Website To Import Data Automatically

Jun 30, 2015

I just created a database and need to connect it to the data source. The data comes from a http website (intranet from work). When I open the link using firefox, I can view the website with the data in it, but when I open it from Internet Explorer, I get a save as pop-up message to save a csv file which contains all the data. The extension of the http website ends with csv. So it is something like http (slash slash...) Intranetname/referral_dbase.csv

Currently, I am opening the file using firefox, copying all the data manually, and pasting it in a text file using notepad. After that, I import the file into access. The delimiter of the data is this symbol: |

I am trying to find a way to link my database to the website where the data is located so that I can skip the manual process of opening the website and copying the data and saving it into a text file and then importing that file into access. I was thinking to have like a form in access with a bottom that will automatically import that data from this link and paste it into a table in access using the delimiter symbol mentioned above.

Is this too complicated? Is it even possible in access 2010?

General :: Website To Get Data From MS Access Database?

Jan 10, 2013

Is it possible for a website to pull data from an Access database?

We have all our department's policies in a MS Access database on our server. Some of these policies need to be made available to the public on our website. I'm wondering if there's a way for the website to pull directly from the database rather than having to manually upload the policies to the site every time they change (annually, semi-annually).

Modules & VBA :: Import Word Form Data

Nov 26, 2013

I am using the follow code to import data from a Word form into my MS Access 2010 DB:

Code:
Set dbs = CurrentDb
Set rst = dbs.OpenRecordset("tmpSIRs", dbOpenDynaset)
With rst
.AddNew

[code]...

On the Word Form, these two fields are drop-downs with three options: blank, No, and Yes. If the users leaves them blank, then Access ignores them--which is what I want. However, if the user says yes or no, Access puts a "-1" in the database. Both the Word form and Access field are text.

Modules & VBA :: Import All The Data In PDF Forms To The Table

Jul 11, 2013

I have a fill-in pdf form, with fields that match database table fields. My database is in SQL, but I use Access for the forms and reports.

The users will go on-site (and be offline), fill out the pdf forms a bunch of times and come back with a folder of them.

I am looking for a way to have a form where a user can choose a folder (maybe on an access form) and say "import PDFs" and then have all the data in the PDF forms import to the table. A lot of other stuff has to happen in that process (checking the project number on the form, assigning an ID tag for that item, etc).

Modules & VBA :: Get XML From A Site And Import Data To Access

Dec 4, 2014

I get XML's from a site and want to import the data to Access. If I use the native import then I get multiple tables and the data is a little jumbled. For instance: I get 1 table with track names and a different table for track numbers with no way to relate the to accurately. I would like to be able to parse out the XML and have it update my table as it goes so I have less "junk" in my DB. I just can't figure out how to call out the XML tag and tell it to copy that info to the correct field.

Modules & VBA :: Using Access To Check Whether A Specific File Exists On A Website?

Aug 19, 2013

Actually what I am looking to do is have an Access application check some Web site for the presence of a number. This number could be the Serial number of the application and if this number exists to maybe show a message in the aplication or even terminate the application.

A quick and dirty way is for User Serial number 254, to put on a specific page of a Web site say arbitrary file 254.jpg (invisible on the Web site). The application would check for the existence of this file and if it is there, it could take some action. Everything would have to be done in stealth mode.

The following code can tell me if a specific URL exists, in this case [URL]

Code:

Private Sub cmdArbitray_Click()
Dim blnDum As Boolean
blnDum = blnCheckURL("http://www.VisualDentist.com")
' If blnDum = True then it exists
End Sub
Public Function blnCheckURL(ByVal strURL As String) As Boolean
Const FLAG_ICC_FORCE_CONNECTION As Long = &H1
blnCheckURL = (InternetCheckConnection(strURL, FLAG_ICC_FORCE_CONNECTION, 0&) <> 0&)
End Function

1) How can I check for file 254.jpg?

Modules & VBA :: Click Button On Form In Database And Login To Website?

Jul 11, 2014

I'm new to Access and I'm using Access 2010.

I would like to be able to click a button on a form in my data base and login to a website using my username and password.

The manual login, requires two clicks after username and password, "Login" and "Click to continue"

I have tried many solutions found on the internet, none work for me. One forum reply was to send me a link to another site and it was for Excel. Is the code the same? Didn't work anyway.

From the website I want to login to, I have copied the code into a Word doc from the "inspect element" to work out the names of the fields I'm trying to put my username and password into. (see attached)

I would also like to be able to use Google Chrome as my web browser if possible?

Modules & VBA :: Web Browser Control To Navigate A Website That Only Allows One Session At A Time

Oct 16, 2013

I have constructed an application in Access2010 that uses the ActiveX WebBrowser Control.I am using the Web Browser control to navigate a website that only allows one session at a time and normally (if using a regular web browser) if you close the tab you're working on, you have to completely close the browser and reopen it to be able to acces the website again.

I have this application on 2 networks.

On PC

A) when using the WebBrowser control I can navigate to the site. But if I need to navigate away or need to log in as a different account on the site, I can close an reopen the form and that will suffice to regain access to the site.

However on PC

B) it will not allow me to navigate back to the site by closing and reopening the form (the website recognises it is not a new session). I have to close the entire database and reopen it to get the site to work again.

I would very much like PC B) to be behaving in the same manner as PC A) so that I do not have to tell users to restart the whole database in order to reaccess the site.

Modules & VBA :: How To Import Data From Text Files Into Access

Nov 6, 2014

I have a text file that details every single incident that happened in the system. This means that it is extremely messy and non-comprehensible to a normal person due to the use of codewords and all.

Is it possible to scan through the document and insert the data into access, such that the different keywords are put as seperate events?

Ps, the number of characters between each event and data may not always be the same, so seperating them by that is not the way to do it. However, when I open the file in notepad++, I can confirm that each event is 6 lines.

E.g. Line 1 = Event timestamp, Line 2 = Event Name, Line 3 = Acknowledged or not, Line 4 = Acknowledged by who, Line 5 = Event Details, Line 6 = Application Owner.

Basically, the 6 lines are the 6 columns that I would need in my table. So, is it possible to separate out and read every 6 lines of data in the text file?

Modules & VBA :: Normalize Data In Array / Remove Duplicates And Import

Dec 18, 2013

I have some data in an array that I need to normalize, remove duplicates, and import.

Original Table

Every record in the array has a person, all but a few have an address, most have a phone, and some have an email.

Person----- Address ----- Phone ----- Email
Tom ----- 10 A Ln ----- 789... ----- e@a
Sue ----- 20 B Ln ----- 256... ----- _____
Sam ----- 30 C Ln ----- _____ ----- _____
Dan ----- 40 D Ln ----- 478... ----- _____
Jan ----- 40 D Ln ----- 567... ----- e@d
Stu ----- 50 E Ln ----- _____ ----- _____
Syd ----- ______ ------ 224... ----- _____

New Data Structure

I want to group the data by HouseHold; which Address will serve to define for this import.

tblHouseHold
hhID
tblAddress
adrID, hhID, Address
tblPerson
prsID, hhID, Person
tblPhone
phnID, hhID, Phone
tblEmail
emlID, hhID, Email

I've been working on a procedure to step through the recordset and add the data one record at a time so I can get rid of the duplicates.

I've tried a few approaches, but this is where I'm at now.

Code:

Dim rs As DAO.Recordset
Dim rsHH As DAO.Recordset
Dim rsPhone As DAO.Recordset
Dim rsEmail As DAO.Recordset
Dim rsAddress As DAO.Recordset
Dim rsPerson As DAO.Recordset
Dim db As DAO.Database
Set db = CurrentDb

Code:

Modules & VBA :: Import Csv Files And Rename Them After Import Into (imported) And (failed)

Jul 17, 2015

I have the following piece of code for importing the .csv files from a selected folder and then renaming them into 'imported & filename' if succesful and 'failed & filename' if import failes for whatever reason (bad formating, etc.).

The problem is that the first time it encounters a 'bad' file after another, instead of going again to the Error handler, the command

Code:
DoCmd.TransferText acImportDelim, , "Activitate", filename, True

gives me the default MS Access error, namely 2391. I would like it to go the the Error_handler again ang follow the course of actions and rename the files into 'failed' and 'imported'.

Here's the code:

Sub ImportActivitate()
Dim strFile As String 'Filename's
Dim strFileList() As String ' File Array
Dim intFile As Integer 'Number of files
Dim filename As String, sFullName As String, sFilename As String
DoCmd.SetWarnings False

[code]....

Also, how can I make the routine stop cycling through the files after I renamed them all?

Import Data From Excel Monthly - Not Manual Input All Data?

Jan 5, 2015

I was assigned by my manager to design an Access database system that is able to import all data from excel file monthly and creating charts & tables to analysis how each sales people and industry perform.

We originally have a big excel master sheet that has more than 10 sheets. I tried to import the current excel into access, but then i realized that this is not gonna work. because for next month, there will be new data and I can't do the whole import process over and over. Plus, after this system is designed, the users will be someone who has no knowledge in access, so i need to create a user-friendly system for them to use.

My questions is:since the data is always cumulative number, if I imported current excel file into access, when the next month comes, how to update the new data into excel. p.s. EXP. Mike's sale volume is different each month, and with the access system, for that column, it will be a cumulative number, like the total from the month of November to this month. how do i achieve this kind of update/import goal?I tried to link the excel to access, but by doing that, I will not be able to set relationship or change the attributes of any data type in access.

Synchronising A LAN BE With A Website DB

Feb 10, 2006

Hi,

The situation is that we have a split DB on a LAN using Windows Server. The BE is on the server and the FE are distributed to each user PC on the LAN. (For historical reasons there are differing versions of Access at each user which was the primary motivation to split the DB)

We also have a copy of the DB on the company website which is to be updated via FTP on a regular basis. This is used for queries only by visitors. We now want our clients to be able to update their information on line in tandem with our local users.

The question is - what is the best method to keep these DBs synchronised?

My thought is to use replication with the LAN BE as the master DB and the website having a replicated version. Then we can periodically download the website version and synchronise the two - presumably we would have to disable the updating function on the website while we do this and then reload the new replicated version up to the website.

A problem I see already is that the website DB is not split where the local version is - is it possible to rejoin a split database? Synchronise it, upload a a replica and then split the BE and FE again?

All Ideas / Suggestions welcome

Website .mdb Locking Up

Nov 18, 2004

I am having a problem with locking, and it is crashing our website.
I suspect it is a locking problem because everytime the database goes down, I ftp into the site and see the dreaded *.ldb file.
Access is suspose to support from 15 to 20 concurrent users, right? The log files show no more than two or three users accessing the database at the same time. By "same time" I mean within one second.

Below is the code which updates the database. Can anyone see anything wrong with this?

Also, if I wrote the information to a text file with the FileSystemObject instead to Access, would I solve the problem of locking?

BEGIN CODE -----------------

sub OpenDB(sConn)
'Opens the given connection and initializes the recordset
conn.open sConn
set rs.ActiveConnection = conn
rs.CursorType = adOpenStatic
end sub

OpenDB sConnStats

'Get ID's by Names

lIdColor = GetIdColor(sColor)
lIdBrowser = GetIdBrowser(sBrowser)
lIdPath = GetIdPath(sPath)

Database Driven Website

May 15, 2007

Hi all,

I work for a construction company and am after a bit of advice.

We are looking in to designing a database system to manage one of our property maintenance contracts.

We want to be able to accesss and update the database using a website, so users can gain access via Laptops / Smartphones etc. For Example a plumber can log on to the site on his PDA using a username and password and view a list of jobs outstanding for him and update the status once completed.

We also want to have a section for clients where they can log on and view reports on the status of the project.

What is the best way to impliment this? I have been looking at Access 2007, SQL, Coldfusion, Sharepoint but still so confused.....

Any advice would be great.
Cheers
Craig
