Modules & VBA :: Inserting Values Into Table With SQL

Sep 12, 2014

I'm trying to insert a set of values into a table using SQL.

Here's my code:

DoCmd.RunSQL "INSERT INTO tblAuditTrail([DateTime], [UserName], [RecordID], [Action], [FieldName], [OldValue], [NewValue])VALUES (" & Now() & ", " & User & ", & Me.CSM & ", " & 'EDIT' & ", " & 'Location' & ", " & Me.txtTranFrom & ", " & Me.txtTranTo & ");"

However, this returns a compile error.

I reference User as Environ("USERNAME") earlier in the code. Everything else pulls from the current table ("tblInventory").

I'm lost, since I've never attempted to use SQL in VBA.

General :: Inserting Values From Combobox In Table

Mar 6, 2013

I am a newbie to ACCESS. I am stuck with inserting values of combobox directly into a record in table.

I have five different tables(each has only one cloumn) and a complete full_details table(contains 5 cloumns).

I have a simple form with five comoboxes and a save button on it. The five comboboxes are populated from five different comboxes at the time of form load. Now, I want to add values selected from these comboxes in fulll_details table.

My form is unbound. I tried with VBA code, on the save button click, I have written ,

Private Sub save_Click()
CurrentDb.Execute "Insert into Full_Details(Col1,col2,col3,col4,col5) Values ('" & Combo0 & "','" & Combo1 & "','" & Combo2 & "','" & Combo3 & "','" & Combo4 & "');"
MsgBox "Record Saved !!!", vbInformation, "Success"
End Sub

It gives me some error : "You can't reference a property or method for a control unless the control has the focus property set"....

See, above query works fine , if I set focus of one combobox,but it adds only 1 combobox value in full_details table as only 1 column value.

Queries :: Inserting Values From A Listbox Into A Table

Jun 28, 2013

inserting values from a listbox in to a table. I have a table with a field named: PrefReports. This field will hold data from values in a list box that the user selects.

Table: Profiles
Field Name: PrefReports Type: Memo

The user utilizes a form to input the values necessary for the query. I then have the query tied to a command button. When the command button is clicked, the query is executed.

The query is as follows:

INSERT INTO TblProfiles ( [Employee ID], FName, LName, Barcode, PrefReports )
VALUES ([forms]![FrmCreateNewProfile]![txtEmployeeID], [forms]![FrmCreateNewProfile]![txtEmployeeFName], [forms]![FrmCreateNewProfile]![txtEmployeeLName], [forms]![FrmCreateNewProfile]![txtBarcode], [forms]![FrmCreateNewProfile]!lstReports.Value);

How can I take what the user selects in the list box, and insert into my TblProfiles.PrefReports field? When I run the query, all other information makes it to the table except the list box values.

Modules & VBA :: Inserting From Excel Number Of Query Values And Destination Fields Not Same

Jan 3, 2014

I am just beginning to manipulate Access from Excel.

I am trying to insert a row into a table. I am adding values for every field (8) except an Autonumber.

I have 2 Insert strings which are identical except for the fact that the one that doesn't work, doesn't specify which fields I am entering data into, which I presume shouldn't be necessary in this case.

When I try to use the second version I receive the error message...

Number of Query Values and Destination Fields are not the same.

The string that works perfectly is:-

Code:

strSQL = "INSERT INTO Clubs (ClubNumber,ClubName,ClubGrade,ClubRegion,ClubPosition,ClubHasHistory,clubinleague,cluboriginalposition) VALUES (" & clubCount + 1 & ",'" & lstrNewClubName & "'," & lintNewClubGrade & "," & lintRegion & "," & 0 & "," & vbFalse & ",'" & lstrNo & "'," & 10 & " )"

The one that generates the error message, which is identical except that I have removed the list of fields is:-

Code:

strSQL = "INSERT INTO Clubs VALUES (" & clubCount + 1 & ",'" & lstrNewClubName & "'," & lintNewClubGrade & "," & lintRegion & "," & 0 & "," & vbFalse & ",'" & lstrNo & "'," & 10 & " )"

The execute command is:-

Code:

gcnConnection.Execute strSQL, , adCmdText + adExecuteNoRecords

Modules & VBA :: Inserting Into Table From Form

Dec 29, 2013

I am building an application using MS ACCESS for a local volunteer ambulance corps and have almost complete it except for the last challenge. I have built many applications like this, with an form to add, modify and delete option for a single table. This time, the accountant asked for data to be saved before being deleted to another table so he can review it after it was deleted by a user and then delete it from that "backup" table. I am at a loss to write the code. However, being a reader of this forum taught me many things in the past and I decided to join and ask this query of the community. I know it is an insert command and I have created a mirror table for the real one with all of the twenty or so fields. The fields are the usual name, address, city state and zip with telephone numbers and some other info.

Modules & VBA :: Ms Access Lock Table While Inserting Data

Oct 31, 2014

In a Access 2003 database, I have an "Inscriptions" (subscription) database with a primary key on 2 fields idPersonnel (employee) and idSession. I have made a form so that user can select a session (in a listbox), then one or more employee (another listbox) and suscribe them to that session by using a button, which, on VBA side, first check that there is enough room on the session (defined by "MaxParticipants" field on "Sessions" table, linked to "Inscriptions" table on idSession), then insert data in "Inscriptions" table

This is working fine in a single-user environnement, but fails if 2 people want to join some employees on the same session at the same time, as I have a confirmation message between check and insertion. Therefore 2 users can select employees, get the confirmation message (at this point both are told there is enough room), resulting in having more people than expected joined to the session. Fortuneatly, if both users try to insert the same employee(s) to that table, one will get a duplicate error, but insertion will be made if employees are different.

On another DB engine, such as SQL server, I would use a stored procedure that would lock the table, do the check and the insertion then unlock the table.

But it does not seem to be possible in MS Access. What are the possibilities in MS Access to prevent a session from having more than maximum number of participants ?

Inserting Values Into Multiple Tables

Aug 22, 2005

I am using an unbound form to insert data into several tables, all related, at the same time. Please let me know if what I am trying to achieve is too ambitious!

I am developing a material sample library... any sample could be one material, two materials or three materials. Let us say that A, B, and C are three primary materials.
I have three Tables: tblX, tblY, tblZ.
tblX stores details for each individual material. Its structure is as follows:

tblX
XPK | ID | value1 | value2 |
01 | A | asdfas | asdfdf
02 | B | dfasdfa | sdfaf
03 | C | asdfffd | asdfg
(here, XPK is the primary key, ID is the name of the material and value1, vlaue2 are other descriptive fields...)

tblY stores materials that are combinations of two primary materials:
tblY
YPK | 1st | 2nd | ID | value1 |
101 | 01 | 03 | M | keiury |
102 | 02 | 03 | N | kjgeiih |
103 | 03 | 01 | P | djlkgoi |

(here, YPK is the unique ID for a sample, the '1st' and '2nd' fields are simply the primary keys from the tblX. ID is the name of this new material and value1 has descriptive values for samples M, N, etc.)

tblZ is the next level of material, made of combinations of materials from both tables tblX and tblY. it is like this:

tblZ
ZPK | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | ID | value1 | value2 |
1001 | 01 | 03 | -- | -- | R | asdprw | mnvd |
1002 | 01 | 102 | 02 | -- | S | adsfd | oirtyr |
1003 | 103 | 02 | -- | -- | T | werwq | pojfgr |
1004 | 02 | -- | -- | -- | U | alkfdp | uioite |
1005 | 01 | 02 | 103 | 102 | V | keqwei | oirewj |

(here, ZPK is the unique identifier, the primary key. as you can see, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th are references to materials from either tblX or tblY or none, ID is the name of the material and so on.)

So, going back to the original primary materials, a sample could be a combination like A + (A+C) + B...

I hope I am clear enough till this point.

My unbound form (which is a very complicated one by now!) is where a user will start with such a sample and start putting in details for each of the primary materials. As he/she logs each individual material, I store that data in a temporary table (tbltemp). When all the primary materials are fed in, the user hits a 'Save' button, which is supposed to do the following:

1) save each primary material from tbltemp to tblX
2) extract their primary keys and then insert that into the next level table, either tblY or tblZ.

I have been working with ADO recordsets to 'addnew' data to tables and am adept with that. I have never simultaneously extracted data from one table and inserted into another. similarly, i have never extracted more than one record, and inserted them into a single record in another table, etc.

I will appreciate any guidance, both at conceptual level and at operational level, that I can get. If you would like to see my database, I could arrange to have it accessible; there is nothing confidential (only higly complicated, I think!).

If you are still reading, I already owe you a ton of thanks!!

Modules & VBA :: Restrict Value In Lookup Field To Only Include Values From Table B Not In Table A?

Feb 2, 2014

I have a database that has 2 tables. Table A and Table B. Table A is my primary table. On this table I have 2 fields. The first field is a LOOKUP Field that looks up information from Table B and displays my selection in the field on Table A. Then using DLOOKUP I automatically input the information in the Second Field on Table A based upon the selection from the First Field.

This is working mostly correctly. However, the problem is, when I click on the next record in the table, it automatically changes the Second Field on that record to the same value as the record before it and continues this trend each time I click on another record. This occurs without me making a selection in the first field. If I make a selection in the first field it does change the Second Field to the Correct Value, but then the next Record has the same issue.

How do I go about fixing this so it doesn't change the value with the change of the record. Only change if I change that particular field within that 1 record?is there a way to restrict the Value's in my lookup field to only include the Values from Table B that aren't already in Table A?

Modules & VBA :: Replace Values In One Table Based On 2nd Table

Jan 12, 2015

I have a table (tblConversions) that I'm using as a base for replacing values in a different table. tblConversions is set up as such and is made up of nearly 100 records:

ID LABEL CODE
1 Ashaway ASH
2 Barrington BAR
3 Bristol BRI
4 Jesse Smith BUR
....

Another table (tblSysItemLoc) has nearly 1,000 records with a field for Location Names such as Ashaway New Books, Ashaway Fiction, Ashaway Non-Fiction, Barrington DVDs, Barrington Reference, etc. Other fields in this table are just statistics.

What I need to do is loop through tblConversions, and find in tblSysItemLoc where the Location field Starts With the value from tblConversion.LABEL and replace the Entire field with the CODE. For example, from tblSysItemLoc "Ashaway New Books" gets changed to "ASH", "Barrington Reference" gets changed to "BAR", etc.

I feel like I need a loop inside of a loop, but I'm not sure where to begin. Loops are not my specialty.

Modules & VBA :: Getting Values From A Table Via DLookup

Aug 15, 2013

I'm pretty familiar with getting values from a table via Dlookup. What I want to do is almost the reverse if possible? I'm declaring a variable as follows:

Dim Ref as string
Ref = [lead_id]

This is from a form.What I'd like to be able to do is go to the table [list], reference the lead ID in the table via the variable then change the field [status] to "INCALL".Can this be done in a similar way to Dlookup?

UPDATE - here is the code I am trying to use

Dim ref As String
ref = [lead_id]
Dim MySQL As String
MySQL = "UPDATE vicidial_list SET"
MySQL = MySQL & "vicidial_list.status = 'INCALL' "
MySQL = MySQL & "WHERE (((vicidial_list.status)= Ref))"
DoCmd.RunSQL MySQL

Which gives me an update clause error

Modules & VBA :: Assign Values To A Table Through Code?

Jun 24, 2015

I have a table (tblPrinterSelection) with three fields: Autonumber, DocType, PrinterSel

There are three types of values for "DocType"; "Document", "LargeLabel", "SmallLabel"

I want to assign a "PrinterSel" to each type of "Doctype", which basically means that the user selects the type of document and then the printer in a form that has the code below and then I need the code to automatically update the table.

Code:
Dim PrintSel As String
Dim DocType As String
'Assign a value to the printer selected variable
PrintSel = Me.lblPrinterSelected.Caption
If IsNull(Me.frmDocType) Then
MsgBox "No document type selected."

[code]....

What i am looking for is code that would pick the value for "DocType" and "PrintSel" assigned here and add them to the table so that I can use that info later.

I am only looking to have three rows in that table so if the "DocType" does not exist then a new row is created but if it does, only the value of "PrintSel" is updated.

I should end up with something like this:

1 Document Epson
2 LargeLabel HP
3 SmallLabel Canon

How can I do this?

Modules & VBA :: Returning Values Into A Query Or A Table

Jun 18, 2013

what I am trying to do with pretty much create a search query through code. So what's happening exactly is that the user enters a part number and expects to get 2 values: total orders and total items associated with the part number he/she entered. I have 3 tables and 2 of them are related. So I began my creating a query relating table 2 and table 3. I cannot include table 1 in the query.

1) Part Number is input by user
2) Search that Part Number into Table1
3) Take returned Parent Values associated with Part Number and store in Array
4) Modify Array values
5) Search Array values using a For Each loop into the query
6) Take the returned values found in query associated with each parent that was retrieved from the part number (user input) and return that through a table or query.
7) Also return the total rows in a specific column (Order Numbers)
