Modules & VBA :: Leaving Open Instances Of Excel After SaveAs

Nov 4, 2013

I have some code that opens and populates an Excel spreadsheets then does a save as to a specific directory and also outputs a PDF. This code is working with one small problem, I am leaving the first instance of Excel open and can't figure out where I should put the code for it to quit. Here is my code:

Code:
' This code creates a recordset based on the current reservation in order to gather data on
' a specific reservation, to output to a payment schedule excel spreadsheet which calculates
' Payment dates and amounts for specific reservations
' Declare variables for recordset
Dim rst As DAO.Recordset
Dim db As DAO.Database

[Code] ....

The instance that I need to close is shown in red.

Modules & VBA :: How To Disable SAVEAS In Excel From Access

May 14, 2014

I am wondering if there is a way to disable the "saveas" in excel from access with vba? I have the following code:

Private Sub cmdReport_Click()
Dim path As String
Dim XL As Object

[Code]....

Which I have used in another excel file. But I can't use that now. The file I am opening from access is a workbook generated from an excel template, and I have yet to find a way on how to transfer this Workbook_BeforeSave sub from the template to the new workbook.

Unable To Open Multiple Instances Of Access 2003

Dec 20, 2005

Not sure if this is the correct forum but its worth a shot.

When I try to open any database, MS Access will hang if there is already another instance msaccess.exe running. I even tried opening two newly created blank dbs with the same result. Has anyone ever come accross this behavior?

I have tried repairinging/reinstalling/checking and unchecking "Windows in Taskbar option"

Thanks for any help!

Modules & VBA :: Open The Export To Excel Window?

Aug 21, 2013

Is there a command that I can use to export a spreadsheet to Excel...

I could use docmd.transferspreadsheet

however that would also mean i would need an input window where users would need to manually put in the location they wish to save to...

Instead, could i not get a "SaveAs" command window or a file browser at least for them to search that way?
Alternatively, If it was possible to use VBA to pop up the "Export - Excel Spreadsheet" window, that would be just as good.

Modules & VBA :: Transfer Spreadsheet Won't Work If Excel Is Already Open

Sep 17, 2013

I am extremely new to writing code, but was able to successfully write code that transfers the data in my form to and excel spreadsheet template and saves it with a different name. The code works perfect and without issue as long as Excel is not running. However if Excel is already open the template remains blank and a warning message appears saying that the form is locked for editing. Below is the code I used.

Private Sub ExcelClear_Click()
Dim xlApp As Excel.Application
Dim xlwrkBk As Excel.Workbook
Dim xlSheet As Excel.Worksheet

Set xlApp = New Excel.Application

Modules & VBA :: Closing Already Open Excel File From Access

May 25, 2015

I want to delete an excel file from within access vba. Problem is that if the file is open, it obviously cannot be deleted. so I need to check to see if that specific excel workbook is open and if it is, I want to close it before I can delete it.

All of the answers here involve creating an excel object and opening it before closing it. If I do that all that happens is a second instance of the workbook opens then closes leaving the originally open workbook still open.

Sub xx()
Dim XLapp As New Excel.Application
Dim ObjXL As Excel.Workbook
Set ObjXL = XLapp.Workbooks.Open("C:dropboxexcelimport.xlsx ")
ObjXL.Application.Visible = True

[Code] .....

The above code demonstrates my problem, if the import.xlsx file is already open then the code just opens another instance of this workbook and then closes it again leaving the original workbook open and as such cannot be deleted.

Modules & VBA :: Searching In Text File For All Instances Of ID?

Mar 17, 2015

I have a text file that cannot be imported and turned into a table because it has no line feed characters and is therefore well over 255 columns. The fields are delimited by commas, however.

How can I search this file for all instances of "{id" and then grab the next 10 characters to the right and store them somewhere?

Modules & VBA :: Open Excel Workbook From Access - Clear Cell Contents

Dec 5, 2013

I would like to open an Excel workbook from MS Access and clear cell contents, or just delete some records in a specific worksheet.

If you open the test workbook, cell contents in RAW need to be deleted by calling from Access.

I have produced some code but it's partially working.

Code:
Sub TestFileOpened()
' Test to see if the file is open.
If IsFileOpen("test.xls") Then
' Display a message stating the file in use.
MsgBox "File already in use!"

[Code] ....

If you put this in a standard module in access, the function works, but the part that doesn't work is where it says "activesheet". It somehow tries to recognize it as a variable, but it's not going to be a variable.

Totals From Instances (not Of Instances)

Jul 21, 2006

I've come across an interesting problem a colleague has been trying to solve and even though I can 'see' what needs to be done and could probably program it on our mainframe, I'm really stuck on how to achieve the same results in MS Access

I'll do my best to explain the problem by showing an example of how the data exists in the DB and also how it 'should' be output on a report.

DATE OPERATOR COUNT

29/06/06 - Oper A - 32
29/06/06 - Oper B - 12
29/06/06 - Oper A - 10
29/06/06 - Oper C - 13
29/06/06 - Oper B - 10

The output needed however should read as follows

29/06/06 - Oper A - 42
29/06/06 - Oper B - 22
29/06/06 - Oper C - 13

Setting up a date selection shouldn't be a problem, its just adding the totals on each instance of each operator into one figure without ending up with a total of the number of times an operator appears on a date.

Any help and guidance about how best to approach this problem (macro/query/script) would be appreciated.

SubTables Leaving Disconected Records

Sep 5, 2007

I made a Table with one record per person which is entered initially and contains a sub-table which is a list of the drugs they are taking. As people are notoriously bad at spelling drugs they select them from an alphabetacised drop down list held in another table. The idea being that they check the spelling before entering them on the main table for any new drugs. The subjects each come back and have a number of measurements taken on a number of visits.
So the main table and the drugs table have a one to many relationship and the main table and the visits. In both cases the tables are linked by the same unique identifier which is compulsory and unique in the master table. The data is input using a master form and sub-forms.
I havent done any of the input but when I looked at the two sub-tables they each have a number of records which are blank in the identifier feild.
How has this happened? How do I stop it happening and is there any way of finding out which record these visit data and drugs should belong to?

Leaving Subform Error With Relationship

Feb 27, 2006

Hey guy im kinda new to this program so excuse me if my question is simplistic:I built a form for making Purchase orders. In the main form...a user enters a bunch of text/num info (name, address, ect)into the table. After that i have it tab to a subform..where a user can add items by line (as many as they like). All good till here: Once i go to click out of the subform...i get message "You cannot add or change a record b/c a related record is required in table 'UCT_Req'"My relationship has a 'one-to-many' link (the req number to the many line items). I have auto-numbers counting up in each table. My main problem seems to be attaching the entered line items to a specific record in the main Purchase order form...and then opening a fresh form afterwards. Any hints? Thanks folksSTeve

I want it to look at the field not for data to be entered manually. I hope this makes sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How Can I Check For Duplicate Entries After Leaving A Field?

Aug 30, 2005

I'm pretty new to Access, so please overlook any stupid questions :)
I have a data entry form that has one field that cannot be a duplicate. So, in the table I have it Indexed with No duplicates.
The problem is that the form doesn't notify the user that they have entered duplicate information until they close the form. So the 10 minutes they spent filling it out is wasted.
So, after consulting various posts, I did a BeforeUpdate event with the following code:
(the field that must be unique is called "LS Number", in the form "Q and D" based on the table "Q and D Database")

Private Sub LS_Number_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer)
On Error GoTo LS_Number_BeforeUpdate_Err

If (DLookup("[LS Number]", "Q and D Database", "[LS Number]=Forms![Q and D]![LS Number]")) Then
MsgBox "The LS Number you entered already exists. Enter a unique LS Number", vbInformation, "Duplicate LS Number"

End If

LS_Number_BeforeUpdate_Exit:
Exit Sub

LS_Number_BeforeUpdate_Err:
MsgBox Error$
Resume LS_Number_BeforeUpdate_Exit

End Sub

When I test this by entering a duplicate LS Number, it gives me the error "Type Mismatch." Unfortunately, I have no idea what this means, nor do I know how to fix it.

Please help, my head hurts!

Forms :: Error When Leaving Out Client ID Field

Jun 13, 2015

I have a form for rentals where I have fields for car details and for client details. I have a list box for clients so that when I enter the Client Id I automatically get all the records filled out on the form, from the clients table...

This works but the problem is that sometimes I have a new client who rents a car that is not on the database so I insert the client details manually on the rentals form without filling in the client ID as this client does not exist on the database.

The problem comes when I want to save the form it wont allow me to leave the client ID field blank... I imagine this is because of the relationship...

Open A Subform As An Excel Spreadsheet

Mar 9, 2005

I'd like to thank everyone for all the help with a long project that is nearing completion.

I have a query by form where I would like there to be a button that the user could push that would take the values from the query that are in the subform and open them up as an Excel spreadsheet for further analysis. There is a function called analyze it with Excel in the Tools/Office options menu but it only works for the main form. I don't get all the values.

Is there some way I can open the subform as an Excel file or set the code and SQL string that it is based on to values for an Excel sheet?

Thanks

Form Entries Leaving Entry Boxes Blank

Sep 6, 2006

I have a form that allows users to search the database for records based on there criteria. The form allows the user to search, through combo boxes, by variables. The first is MAT, the second is Relocation Area. The search works fine when the user selects options form the combo boxes. However sometimes it is neccesary to leave the location field blank and only search by MAT. When the location combo box is left blank no records are found. Is there anyway around this. The SQL code for the query is below:

SELECT [Extract Data].[ID], [Extract Data].AREA, [Extract Data].[MAT], [Extract Data].[Relocation Area 1], [Extract Data].[Relocation Area 2], [Extract Data].[Relocation Area 3], [Extract Data].[Grade Score]
FROM [Extract Data]
WHERE ((([Extract Data].[MAT])>forms![Data Search]!SearchMAT) And (([Extract Data].[Relocation Area 1])=Forms![Data Search]!SearchArea)) Or ((([Extract Data].[MAT])>Forms![Data Search]!SearchMAT) And (([Extract Data].[Relocation Area 2])=Forms![Data Search]!SearchArea)) Or ((([Extract Data].[MAT])>>Forms![Data Search]!SearchMAT) And (([Extract Data].[Relocation Area 3])=Forms![Data Search]!SearchArea));

Any help would be much appreciated
