Modules & VBA :: Show Hidden Tabs Based On List Box Column Value

Mar 30, 2015

I am designing a contact database for a diocese and the contacts record form is divided into several tabs, some of which are hidden by default. One of the controls on the form is a listbox (lboRoles), where a user can add one or more roles to contacts. The listbox has a hidden column that defines the TabIndex for the assigned role, and my goal is to make the associated tab on the form that was previously hidden, to now be visible.

For example, if a contact is assigned the role "Committee Member" and the tabindex value for that role is 3, the form should make the hidden tab (where the page index is also 3) now visible.

Modules & VBA :: Filtering Subform By Mainform Date Text Boxes?

Jul 25, 2013

I'm having issues with this one.

Table name is CompDates
Subform is ViewByMarket

Start date is Text13 and End Date is Text15.

I want it to filter out any matches between the 7 fields. Here is my code:

Code:
Private Sub Command19_Click()
Dim strFilter As Variant, _
strSDate As String, _
strEDate As String
'check Text13
Text13.SetFocus 'set focus to Text13 to be checked

[code].....

It will only filter for Build Date 1 and not for any of the other fields.

Forms :: Key Down Event For Particular Column In Subform

Jun 13, 2014

I have some code for the Key Down event for particular column in my subform

Private Sub Sample_ID_KeyDown(KeyCode As Integer, Shift As Integer)
Sample_ID = Nz(DMax("Sample_ID", "Sample_Sheets")) + 1
mTo = Nz(DMax("mTo", "Sample_Sheets")) + 1
mFrom = Nz(DMax("mFrom", "Sample_Sheets"))
End Sub

This works, however it also work when I press Key Up, changing what the key down previously did. I do not want it to do this. I have nothing entered in the Key up event for the form properties.

Modules & VBA :: Subform Itself Has AfterInsert Event Handler

Jan 14, 2014

On a subform, I have a text box control with an AfterUpdate event handler. The subform itself has an AfterInsert event handler.

If a user enters data into that tb control for a new record and then moves on (tab or click elsewhere), the AfterUpdate fires and does what it should, including setting Me.Dirty=False immediately before it completes. Then the form's AfterInsert event fires and does what it should, but finishes by returning program control to the ErrorHandler label within the control's AfterUpdate routine, reporting either an error 2101 (The setting you entered isn't valid for this property) or 3270 (Property not found). The form's AfterInsert handler does have its own ErrorHandler label, but it is not being executed.

Modules & VBA :: Call Event From Subform Using Tag Property?

Jul 11, 2013

I am starting to explore VBA and Modules. I recently found a relativly simple way to add an Audit Log to a database without adding two tables for each table as outlined by Allen Browne.

I used a set of code from fontstuff.com and it works great, except when using a sub form. I belive that it is most likely because the use of the Tag property looks at the subform as a control but it holds no value. I am thinking the VBA needs to be altered or the BeforeUpdate command need to specify what form to look in.

The Before Update code is

Code:

Public Sub Form_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer)

Code:
If Me.NewRecord Then
Call AuditChanges("SubForm_ID", "NEW")
Else
Call AuditChanges("SubForm_ID", "EDIT")
End If
End Sub

AuditChanges is the Module Event name and CustomerID is the unique identifer for a Subform.

B Select * from TableB where Key = "B"
C Disable subform somehow because it doesn't apply

Could someone please provide some advice on how I could do this.

Querying A SubForm With A MANY To MANY Relationship With MainForm

Jul 5, 2005

Hi,

I am assuming Access cannot handle Many to Many relationships very well.

I have an Account form ("MainForm") with an embedded SubForm that displays only the Account Address with suite number, street number, street name, street type. Account to Address is a Many to Many relationship. My Account form's source is tblAccount, and the SubForm is built off of a query of 3 tables -- Querying Account, LinkTable, and Address table. The link between the SubForm and the "MainForm" is done via AccountID.

My problem is, when I query for an Address (say entering a street number of 25), I want to get back all the addresses with street number of 25 AND the corresponding Accounts that have street number 25 only

What it does is return the addresses with Street Number 25 and ALL the accounts regardless of what their addresses are!

Is there a way to do this?? Can I design a form without using a SubForm in this case, ie, display the account and its many addresses? Or does Access Forms not support Many to Many Relationships? I'm thinking the link table is causing the problems here.

Please advise -- this "simple" project is becoming quite the headache! :eek:

"edit" -- I also notice this problem with a 1 to Many relationship (the "many" portion being the subform)

Thanks for any help,

Mike

Nothing has changed on the subform textboxs, just that I added a primary key to assist in the linking action bewteen forms. I can't for the life of me get it back to what it was . any ideas??

Modules & VBA :: Event That Trigger On Selecting A Record Of Subform

Jun 30, 2014

I've got a subform that im writing code for, once a user enters a value in one of the fields i want to make sure they cant change that field (and two other fields in that same record, though the rest of the fields are fine to edit at will)

I've got a function already written to validate the data in the record and decide whether or not the fields are enabled and disabled, however im having trouble finding an event in which to activate the function

Is there an event that triggers whenever a user selects a different record?

Any chart or list with all the handlers and how they trigger (in relation to each other) and when?

Forms :: Adding Value Of Combobox To Hidden Column When User Enters A New Record

Aug 14, 2013

I'm very new to access so I'm not sure about the correct way to go about this. I have a table with a 'category' column, a form which hides the category column, and a combobox to filter the category, let's say R, C, and F.

What I want accomplish is to have the value of the comobox applied to the hidden 'category' column when a user enters a new record into the form.

Is there I way I can get an instance to the record as it's being entered and modify the data using VB? Or would I have to write a sort of pop() function and have it run afterInsert and then modify it that way? Can I even alter the table using VB like this?

Referencing Subtotals Fields On Mainform From Subform

Mar 9, 2005

Hi,

i'm working in access 97 and am having difficulties pulling a subtotal or referencing any fields on my subform on my main form. I've searched the forum and help and tried to apply the info provided, but i still can't seem to get it to work.

as far as i can tell this should work:

=[MySubForm].[Form]![TxtTotalStaffNumbers]
but i'm still getting the dreaded #Name? error.

anyone got any clues as to what i'm doing wrong?

what about the case where the subtotal i'm referencing is a calculation such as =Sum([Quantity]*[FacilityArea]). Should i still be able to reference it on my main form by pointing to the name of the field?

Thanks very much!

Update Of Subform In Datasheet View On Mainform?

Oct 8, 2006

Hi,

I have a query (SelectedData_Query) , on which a form (SelectedDataQuery_SubForm) in datasheetview is based, which is placed on a form (NAWInvoerForm) where customer adress data is put in. When someone clicks new case button on the NAWInvoer_Form, another form (CaseDateTimeInfo_Form) is opened, data is entered, but when the "CaseDateTimeInfo_Form" form is closed, the data in the subform in datasheetview on the NAWInvoerForm is not yet refreshed. So I tried the following:

Private Sub Form_Close()
'------------------------------------------------------------
' RefreshNAWInvoerForm
'
'------------------------------------------------------------
On Error GoTo RefreshNAWInvoerForm_Err

DoCmd.OpenForm "KlantNAW_InvoerForm", acNormal, "", "", , acNormal
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdRefresh

RefreshNAWInvoerForm_Exit:
Exit Sub

RefreshNAWInvoerForm_Err:
MsgBox Error$
Resume RefreshNAWInvoerForm_Exit

End Sub

Which works just fine. After the form is closed, the name, adress and cases overview form is reopened and refreshed, thus the case that has just been created is shown nicely in the subform which is based on a query.

But it is starting to become bothersome, sometimes when I close the form in which I create a new case, I don't want to have the other form (NAWInvoerForm) reopening again.

So how can i make it so that when I close the form only the data in the "NAWInvoer_Form" is refreshed, without having to reopen the form again. I mean, in the background, the form is still open anyway. It just shouldn't keep popping up everytime.

It can't be hard, but I can't see it. I'm new at this. I have found some similar topics on this forum, but none which helps me out enough.

It should be something like:

On "thisandthatevent" do a "thisandthatcommand" on "thisandthatsubform" in "thisandthatform"

If I know how the syntax of that is done, it would help me out with some other problems I see coming in the near future. I've looked at, and tried some things based on this link: http://www.mvps.org/access/forms/frm0031.htm
But without success.

Can anyone help?

Modules & VBA :: Subform Event To Update Automatically A Field In Form

Mar 18, 2015

I have a form and a subform

Which method should I use if I need to update automaticaly a field in form based on an event in subform ?

Just to be more clear, have a look in the below example.

In first print screen, student "Johnson Nick" has not completed all tests in TestA subform, the form field "DateCompleteA" is blanc.

Once a student completes all tests in Period A, I need the form field DateCompleteA to show the date that he completed the last one. (18/3/2015).

If student has not yet completed all tests in TestA subform the Form field DateCompleteA must be blanc.

Student has not completed "literature"yet, DateCompletA field is blanc

Student completed ALL his test, subform is updated, Form field DateCompletA is updated with the maximum date.

Forms :: Selecting Record From Subform And Showing In Mainform?

My Database is really simple, it contains 1 table (called Querys) and a form called Dashboard.

In my main form (Dashboard) I have inserted a sub form which shows all the records in my table (called Querys) when I use my main form and add a record this sub table can then be refreshed and it shows all my records.

This part is fine,What I would like to do is be able to select a record in my sub form and it show the record data in my main form. This would really speed up the navigation process as the database gets bigger.

Forms :: Sort Mainform Based On Earliest Date On Subform?

Dec 13, 2013

I have a form which shows training events - these can take place over one or several days, and can be run by one trainer or several, so I have my basic Events Info in one table (EventID, EventType, Location, that kind of thing) and the 'Jobs' in a separate table (EventID, JobDate, TrainerID, etc)

The problem I'm having is that I want the List of Events to be sorted in order of their start date... which is on the subform, not the main form.

How can I go about it - and still leave both the main and subforms fully editable?

I have a checkbox on my subform [ReconciledYN], along with a textbox [TxtReconcileDateSub]. when I click the checkbox, it simply pulls the date from the mainform and populates the date in the subform.

I've even tried experimenting on a simple form (with no subform) to see whats going on, but still I can't get it to work, even on a simple event such as this...

If [yourcheckboxname] = -1 Then [controlnametoupdate] = date() Else [controlnametoupdate] = ""

Modules & VBA :: Filter Subform By Nth Column In Combobox?

Aug 5, 2015

I am currently having trouble filtering my subform by a different column than the bound column set in properties.

the comobobox shows the ID for the last email sent, with the combobox drop down showing the name and date of email when dropped down. I have tried 2 things and neither work...

1) Calling the filter on the combo-box column itself:

Code:

Dim myDate as string
myDate = [Forms]![BenSearchForm]![BenSearchSub]![LastEmail].[Column(5)]
DateFilt = " AND" & myDate & " BETWEEN " & "Nz([forms]![BenSearchForm].[Date3],#1/1/1900#) AND Nz([forms]![BenSearchForm].[Date4],#31/12/2100#)"

I have used similar code on another form, but I can't get the myDate variable to get to value of the 6th column in the dropdown (Date Of Email). an Easier way to look at this would be:

Code:
DateFilt = " AND [Forms]![BenSearchForm]![BenSearchSub]![LastEmail].[Column(5)]" & " BETWEEN " & "Nz([forms]![BenSearchForm].[Date3],#1/1/1900#) AND Nz([forms]![BenSearchForm].[Date4],#31/12/2100#)"

2) Inside the subform, I have set up a seperate field that reads the result of the dropdown box column(5) and shows it. For example the Email with ID 22 has a date of 4/8/15, so any record with last sent email being 22 has a record that says 4/8/15. I am trying to use this value to filter between, but am unable of passing the value to my filter.

The textbox is called "Email Date" and the Control source is "=[Forms]![BenSearchForm]![BenSearchSub]![LastEmail].[Column](5)"

It shows the correct data, but does not allow me to filter by this field, when the apply filter button is pressed it asks me for the parameter value of the LastEmail Field.

Code:
DateFilt = " AND" & " [EmailDate] BETWEEN " & "Nz([forms]![BenSearchForm].[Date3],#1/1/1900#) AND Nz([forms]![BenSearchForm].[Date4],#31/12/2100#)"

I use a number of set variables for my filters, so my filter ends up looking like

Code:
.Filter = IDFilt + EmailFilt+ DateFilt

where all but IDFilt begin with AND. I use this on a number of other forms so I am sure this is not the issue!

For security reasons I want to place the back end in a folder that is hidden from the users. In other words the users can access the front end as normal and run queries and reports but they are not able to navigate in Windows to the folder containing the back end or view its contents.

Is it necessary to use VBA to do this? If so what is the script? If not, how is it done.

Modules & VBA :: Unable To Add Hidden Information To A Record

Mar 3, 2015

I'm trying to add hidden information to a record and need to know the best way to do it.

I have a visible table that all users enter data into using a form.

I also have a hidden table that contains 2 fields "linked Table ID" and "notes"

I have a box at the top right of my form which is white (I also have a white background so it's impossible to see).

When you click the box it changes a textbox on my form visible property from false to true.

then I plan to use a separate button that the user currently uses to save a record to store ID number and hidden textbox information in the hidden table but I'm sure how to do this.

Finally I will use a hidden query which will display all the fields from both tables using the linked Table ID from the hidden table and ID field from the non hidden table.

So i have 2 questions:

1 how do I save information the user entered into a form created from one table into a different (hidden) table

2. Is this the right approach to this problem?

Having Some Subform Fields Auto Fill From Mainform Fields

Nov 2, 2005

How can I get some mainform fields' data to be the first entry in a subform? From the mainform, I would like the Head of Household name and date of birth to be carried over to the first entry in the HouseholdMembers subform.

The two forms are tied to separate tables. For each household member I need to be able to enter full legal name, date of birth and some additional pieces of information such as income and source of income.

What I'd like to avoid is making the users enter the Head of Household's name and date of birth twice. Is there a way to carry that information over to the subform?

Thank you, Charlotte
