Modules & VBA :: Microsoft Access Linked Tables Dialog Box If Database Move To Another Location
Mar 17, 2014
I have a question that I have a Microsoft Access database (.accdb) front-end/backend split and I want to give the database to my company client. As we have the different path for the backend/frontend linked. I want some code that will popup if the database location is not found and popup with the dialog so the user then select the backend and it would be ready and there is no need to popup each time the database open, it would run once it did not find the last linked path.
Also I have tried the code of Dev Ashish URL.... but unfortunately it would ask everytime to refresh the table links and I only want to run the process of linking tables when the database start and the linked path not found.
So I have this relatively simple problem: I need to create a button that once clicked will open the Save As dialog box and allow the user to save a copy of the current database where he wishes. The filename should contain todays date in DDMM format along with some pre-set text e.g. DDMM PresetText.
I have developed a Microsoft Access 2010 database for my client and the database is split with Front-end/Back-end, the Back-end and the database is shared on Network, The client operating system and applications for all users are hosted and consistent and the service is delivered over Citrix.
The database some times corrupt the tables record and give a permanent #Delete Error, I have attached one of the database table and the screenshot of the error,
The code below sets my printer to "Cute PDF writer" and then opens a report in print view, which creates a PDF version of my report. So far so good. But just before the last step, it brings up the Save As dialog box, asking for a filename and location.
Three points are important:I always want to call the PDF document "Specialty Report".I always want to save it to C:Documents and Settings80435 Desktop. I always want to overwrite the previous version.
Is there some code I can insert that would achieve this automatically with no further user interaction i.e. user clicks a button and the PDF file is created/overwritten?
Code:
'Produce the report Dim defPrinter As String, NewPrinter As Printer defPrinter = Application.Printer.DeviceName 'Get the default printer name Set NewPrinter = Application.Printers("CutePDF Writer") 'Create a new printer object Set Application.Printer = NewPrinter 'Set the default printer to the new printer DoCmd.OpenReport "Specialty Report", acViewPrint 'Open the report in print view (which will PDF it) Set NewPrinter = Application.Printers(defPrinter) 'Reset the printer back to the default printer
I have MDB database linked to SQL SERVER through VPN connection.I created links to the sql server Links are dsnless..Everything works fine but when I lost VPN connection or sql connection has been broken I can't refresh links to the tables.I receive message 3146 sql connection failed..I must close database and start again...
I tried different methods like ado, dao, and vba docmd.transferdatabase,aclink... but no success, table cant be relinked.
Only way I can relink is to change ip adress in conn.string
E.g. 192.124.0.2 (1st ip- router server ip) and after connection failed i can use 192.124.0.32 (2nd ip - server local ip) and that's it if i lost connection for the 3rd time... i must restart application.
It seems that access database keep the previous connection..how to reset or drop database connection to the sql server and refresh links to the tables with vba code without closing access database...
I have tried to create an MDE database and receive the message "Microsoft Access was unable to create an MDE database" I deleted all unnecessary tables, queries, forms and reports and still receive this message.
I have a FE database with all the forms, reports, etc. and my BE DB with all the tables is in the same directory as the FE. My problem is when users are not in the office and opens the FE data base they get an error that the path to the linked tables are not available.
My question: Is there a way to make these FE links to the BE dynamic. I really don't want various FE with paths linked to the BE.
I have an App that runs a few action queries using:
Code: CurrentDb.Execute "[My Query Name]"
At some point I get this Error: The Microsoft Access database engine cannot find the input table or query <name>. Make sure it exists and that its name is spelled correctly. (Error 3078).The query is there, I can run it from the DB objects window.Queries run using CurrentDb.Execute earlier in the code.
I am after a script to change the linked table paths like the following.
It will only ever be the path that is changing not the file name and only ever linked tables
Code: for each table in tabledefs if table.path = c:Testing* then table.path = w:Testingfilename if table.path = c:Jobs* then table.path = w:Jobsfilename if table.path = c:Quotes* then table.path = w:QuotesNewfilename next table
I recall reading somewhere (fairly recently) about a parameter or property in Access which is "On" by default and allows a form/query to identify when backend table field names or query arguments are changed and automatically looks for and "fixes" the renamed link. By leaving this switched ON, the database is slower than it could be. The db speed performance can be can be improved significantly by switching this 'feature' off. (i.e. Name of the property)
how to stop this error from occuring. "Potential Security Concern" I get this everytime a query runs that is creating a file for exporting. The database is in a trusted location, the query is a make table query if that makes a difference.
I am fairly new to databases and have goolged for this question. I have a database created that will keep track of drawing files in our archive. What I would like to do is, give the end-users the option to type in the file location and click a button to copy there files from their project folder directly to the archive directory on the server.
Would this be fairly easy to do or would it require the assitance of a access database programmer? Thanks for any help.
hi everyone i just want to ask how to create a database microsoft access and connect it to my webpage...like for example a certain content in my web is downloads (music, videos etc.). then i want to add another music in my web..how can i do that in microsoft access hope u can help me guys...thanks!
I created a database that I want to move to a server for others to access. When they open it, it says invalid path. It's looking for my desktop. How do I get this whole database moved to a shared location on a server?
I'm not too hot at creating a database in Access, so I was wondering if there was anyone out their prepared to help me construct one.
This database is designed to search for property from various locations and from various price ranges, you can also pick the type of property, the amount of bedrooms and have the result in descending or ascending order.
For location just use: Location 1, Location 2, Location 3, and Any Price Ranges use: 30,000, 50,000, 70,000, 90,000, and 110,000 Type of property please use: houses, flats, and bungalows Bedrooms use: 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5+
Fill in any data you wish, I think this needs to have a query setup?
I have the following code which successfully opens the dialog box with filters however when I add a function with an Excel import, the filters do not work at all (no files are shown even though they exist in the directory that's opened within the dialog box). If I manually type in the filter (i.e. *.x) it still shows the files. The function at the bottom was provided by cheekybuddha from another form, I'd be lost on getting the Excel file imported into Access. Here's the VBA code (the Function is also included at bottom):
Code: Private Sub Command0_Click() On Error GoTo PROC_ERR Dim strpathtofile As String Dim strTable As String, strBrowseMsg As String Dim strFilter As String, strInitialDirectory As String Dim blnHasFieldNames As Boolean
Hi, We migrated on DB to a shared network drive. But the users cannot open the DB. It keep give an error message that microsoft access can't find the database file. Please advise.
please help I am working with access database I have limited experience with access. I am unable to figure this particular problem. Microsoft access can't append all the records in the append Query microsoft access set 0 field to null set to convertion failure and didn't add 2 to records to the table due key violation 0 record due to key lock violation

In the access form I want to add a button with a special functionality.
After clicking "Select file" button special window should be open (or something else). It should give user a possibility of files locating (doc, pdf, rtf, txt ...).
After selecting the file and confirm the choice in the table "File_location" in database path to the file should be saved .
Just as the title describes, I can't seem to find a solution to be able to link the front-end to the back-end tables through the common file dialog when the backend is an accdb file that is password encrypted.
See the example attached. Here it should work just fine per the Article at :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/181076
I've found it works fine without a password encrypted back-end but not with a password encrypted back-end.
Anyone have any ideas? It would be nice to use this feature in Access as well as automating the relinking.
I've written a function which opens the Outlook GAL dialog, allows users to select recipients and passes back a 2-D array (recipients and type i.e. To, CC or BCC).Here is the code :
Code: Public Function GetContactsFromOutlookGAL() As Variant Dim appOutlook As Object ' Outlook Application Dim objNameSpace As Object ' Outlook NameSpace Dim objSelectNamesDialog As Object ' Outlook Select Names Dialog
[code]...
The only problem I have is that when I 'display' the SelectNamesDialog, it doesn't make it the active window and bring it to the front - it just opens the dialog in Outlook and you have to navigate to the main Outlook window to find it.I'd like for the dialog to 'popup' - ideally, without the main Outlook window dragging along behind
I believe it's possible (judging from this article) to achieve this using API's - specifically, a combination of FindWindow (to retrieve the window handle) and ShowWindowLong (to set it to a topmost window in front of all other windows).
My main experience is with MySQL and PHP so I'm kindof stumbling around in the dark here. Heres my story:
We recieved a new server and migrating from (Windows Server 2000, IIS 5.0, Access 2000) to (Windows Server 2003, IIS 6.0, Access 2003) has been nothing but problems.
I have setup IIS to work with ASP, I've also setup a system DSN. The access file was copied over from the previous server. We're running Access 2003 and now I can't seem to get this ASP script to work.
When I try to upload a file to the script I get this error:
Line: 42 Char: 7 Error: HELP!!! Error: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Invalid SQL statement expected 'DELETE','INSERT','PROCEDURE','SELECT', OR 'UPDATE'. Code: 0 Url: (URL address blocked: See forum rules)
Its included in a file called FileRead.htm here is the part that refers to the error lines: Code: var TheFile, FileStrm;// Retrieved field namesvar M_ssn, M_inits, M_Lname, M_Fname, M_DSSN, M_ruc, M_paycode;var M_normamt, M_payamt, M_pgrp, M_poe, M_pltcd, Payrollnum, Payrolldate;// var Trash, FieldData, FieldNames;var TrashLineNum = 1;// Create the file Stream Object (ReadOnly)TheFile = new ActiveXObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject");FileStrm = TheFile.OpenTextFile(FName,1,false);// Setup the Database Connectionvar SQLCommand, TheRS, TheConnection, DSNString, Commands, MyDC;FieldNames = new Array("ssn","inits","lname","fname","dssn","ruc","cco", "payamt","normamt","notsureone","pgrp","poe", "pltcode","recstatus","paychgflg","paystatuscode", "payrollnum","payrolldate");// Connect the the DatabaseDataLib.ConToDB();MyDC = DataLib.GetDC();// Get Payroll NumberPString = prompt("Enter Payroll Number","025");Payrollnum = parseInt(PString,10);// Get Payroll DateDString = prompt("Enter Payroll Date","20000101");Payrolldate = DateLib.FromMil(DString);// Setup the Database Connectionvar NumRecs = 0;//MyTest = DataLib.GetRS("PaydayUpdate1");alert("About to cross into the CurExtract!!!");MyRS = DataLib.GetRS("SELECT * FROM CurExtract");
I set an alert after this line but it doesn't pop up.
ANY HELP WOULD BE VERY GREATLY APPRECIATED. I'll be checking this very frequently.
