Modules & VBA :: Multiple Value Combobox Linked To Form
Oct 16, 2013
I have a Multiple Value Combobox that I have linked to one of my forms and I am trying to write some vba code that will allow on update, "if a certain item is clicked open up a different form".
Here is the Multiple Value Combobox Multiple value combobox3.JPG
I have a contineous form with a combobox for each record and i have a button to select the first item in the combobox then to refresh the list in the combobox .I want to creat a one button to select the first item in the combobox then refresh the list then go to the next record and select the first item on the list
I have a database with a number of linked tables that are linked to tables in different databases (not a back-end).for example, I have table1 that is linked to table1 in K:databasedb1.mdb.table2 linked to table2 in S:datadata.mdb.and so on...
However, recently we have moved all our databases to a new location.
K:databasedb1.mdb is now residing in O:masterdatabase and S:datadata.mdb is now residing in O:masterdata and so on...
I'm now in charge of relinking all those tables to point to the new location.I would do this in linked table manager one by one but we have 100s of tables linked to multiple different databases in different location.is there a way to create a VBA code that will automatically do this re-linking process?
so, 1. find unlinkable tables 2. search its new location under O:master 3. re-link it to the new location
Database names and tables names have not been changed. Just the location of databases.
Right what im after sounds complicated but its quite simple.
I have a client database, in this database each client has 3 skill fields, i also have a form with a listbox and an unbound textboxes that are linked to the query so when the textbox is typed in the listbox updates.
Now ive sorted out the problem of not all fields showing it some of them are blank now the problem is.
When input text into one of the boxes the listupdates, now if theres text in two boxes. and theres data in one of each that matches it will show neither, because the query is looking for data that matches in both fields, now i need partial matches so it will give results of data in both fields.
not understanding fully what i mean?
i have zipped my db, if you open the db then open the form 'MainListRecTrades2nd' and fill in data in both primary and secondary trades that matches from the list you will see.

The solution i was thinking of would to have 1 textbox that searches all the fields and displays data from any of the fields in the list
I'm using Access and Excel 2007.... I know how to import an Excel spreadsheet as a table.
I have several supplier price lists in Excel. I want to keep my vendor price lists up to date.
When one of my vendors tell me that a price has changed on a particular item, I figure that I could have a form that I could use to enter the changes.
I believe the form would look like:
Field: "Vendor" (drop down list to choose from. Name of the Supplier price lists) Required. Field: "OEM" (Key Field found in each table) Required. Field: "Brand" (Field found in each table) Not required. Field: "Price" (Field found in each table) Required.
OEM would be the unique key field.
If I enter the Vendor name and then the OEM number it would show if there is already that number in the Vendor price list and I could make changes. Or I could enter new data in that vendor price list.
I'm interested to know how I can select a (1) student and assigns to multiple classes.
Attached I have the database with some tables and forms. Please take a look. I can assign a student to a class, on a specific day but I couldn't figure out how to select multiple classes at once.
I have a button that, when clicked upon, I would like to hyperlink to one folder--the location of which being specified by a value the user selects from a combobox.
Example of what I would like to happen: 1)The user selects the Ship Name "AGER 2-Pueblo" from the combobox list. 2)The user clicks the "Go To Ship Folder" button to go to this ship's folder. 3)Access takes "AGER 2-Pueblo" from the combobox and tacks it on the end of the general address of "C:Documents and SettingsDesktopShip Stuff" so that the folder "C:Documents and SettingsDesktopShip StuffAGER 2-Pueblo" opens.
I tried searching for this...but found nothing except the application.followhyperlink code, which I can't get to do this. Can this be done? I would appreciate any help.
I have a file "MatchingData" thats linked to another file "Clist" . What I'm looking for to open "MatchingData" and update from "Clist" on opening. I don't know if I can do this without opening "CList". I have a feeling that I may have to open the "CList" (Hidden), update, then close "CList".
I have a main form called frmAF54. In this main form I have a subform named frmPassdown. The subform record source is from a table called tblCards. This table contains many different cards. I have a combobox called lstOpCard in the main form as well. The combobox lists all of the different cards in "tblCards". I have a button called "buttonFilter".
A user opens the form and clicks (or selects) the different cards in the combo box "lstOpCard" that they want to filter for. Once their selections are made, they can click the "buttonFilter" button and the subform "frmPassdown" will be filtered based off of their selections.
The filter is applied using the IN() function as shown below: Me.AF54PassDown.Form.Filter = "[OpCardID] IN ( " & sTemp & " )" --sTemp is a string containing the keyIDs of the cards selected.
My problem is that people will be opening and closing the form throughout the day / week. When the form closes, it loses the applied filter. How can I have my filter on the subform be saved after the form is closed and the filter is still applied when the form is opened later?
What i want is to have a combo box on a continuous form that as you type it filters the Query it is based on using a Like *. and drops downs so the user can see the updated list after each key press? Is this possible?
I have a subform in datasheet view for tracking calls from clients. The Client Name is a combination of the first and last name. I want to create a text box that allows me to start typing in the client name and it will filter for only those Clients that match. Currently, I have the following code (below) for the textbox, however when I start typing in a client name all the clients disappear from the table. The client name is in a combo box so I don't know if that is making a difference.
Private Sub Text3_Change() Dim strFilter As String Me.Refresh
The Header and footer are not linked. The Footer simply displays all the existing bookings for said ouse/Room/Date combination. (Date being all dates between the StartDate and EndDate) BUT (surprise, surprise)users don't look at this to check if a booking already exists.
Also - It seems pointless to have the users enter the same data (House, Room, UserID) in 6 times (one for each day that they want to book the room.
So I am trying to automate the process.
Therefore, I append each 'new' record (that the users adds in this session) into a temporary table. (House / Room / UserID / StartDate)....note, no end date because I need a separate record for each day.
I have a query that is supposed to check the EXISTING bookings with the temp table. My code (paraphrased here for simplicty) says
do while StartDate < EndDate - if Qry_CheckForClash returns 0 records then '(uses a dlookup) - append from TEMP to BOOKINGS. - - else - compile an alert message to the user (appending the Room No and Date each iteration) - In Qry_CheckForClash, increase the StartDate by +1 - end if loop
My problem is that after the last step (increase StartDate by +1) the call to Qry_CheckForClash still returns the initial StartDate. But when I check the TEMP table, the StartDate has changed.
So how do I REFRESH or REQUERY a query that is not associated to a form or report?
I created a form for scheduling appointments on access 2013 using a youtube tutorial. I got most of it work apart from the combo box that functions in a way that once the time slot has booked with a client it should no longer be shown in the list.
E.g.:-2/2/2014 10:00AM is already booked with a client
The combo box should no longer display the 10:00 AM timeslot but can be shown on other days
Below is the VBA code that i typed out. How to create the code to make the combo box work in that manner.
Option Compare Database
Private Sub cboTime_Enter() Dim i As Date, n As Integer, oRS As DAO.Recordset, sSQL As String Dim dLowerbreak As Date, dUpperBreak As Date, dDuration As Date Dim dLowerPrecision As Date, dUpperPrecision As Date cboTime.RowSourceType = "Value List"
[Code] ....
I found out that the combo box does not work like it does in the video i.e the option does not dissaspear even though their has been a booking with that time slot with another client.
Coding that is required to make the combo box work like that or is their an error within the code that is preventing the combo box to work in such manner ...
Hello everyone. It has been many years since I played with this stuff and I probably wouldn't be now, if not for an emergency. I know there is probably an example here that all ready explains what I need, but honestly, I am not real familiar with the terms and wouldn't know where to begin looking for it.
I am old and don't intend to make a career out of this, I just need to fix a database. We had a bookkeeper at our small business who, for years, maintained our mailing list. It was her own design, though she knew nothing about it and learned as she went along. We never interfered because she did her job flawlessly in her own little, confussing round-a-bout way. She is gone now and we have to make heads or tails of this. We decided the quickest and easiest way was to blow the old db away, use as much of the basic fields that we could sacrifice and start over. It's just a simple mailing list, but it contains over 9000 records.
Her method of entering records was from the table view. Yep, starting a new line at the bottom of the table and then entering the 94 fields of information that applied to the new record. I have created a form today that does this now and simplifies this process. Her method of preventing multiple records, was to scroll down the table and see if she had already entered the record previously. This is my question.
My first approach to resolving this issue in my new form, was to create a ComboBox on the form to do a lookup using Last and FirstName. Due to the fact that this ComboBox will need additional fine tuning that I don't understand, when I use it, it does auto-complete the last name "Anderson" as I type it and it highlights the first "Anderson" record in the db, but It doesn't do any sorts in this same ComboBox to bring the rest of the "Anderson" records to the top so I can then check for a matching FirstName. I'm sure this requires changes in the property of the ComboBox that I don't understand. Or, maybe I shouldn't even be using the ComboBox.
Actually, I would bet there is a way that I can alter my table so that it would not allow me to put in a duplicate record and therefore, eliminating the need to even look anything up.
Any ideas or direction with this would be greatly appreciated. Since I am only the person creating this and not the person(s) that will actually be using it, I should find a method for this that will be simple for anyone adding records. Hopefully, in a day or so, I can be done with this and get back to my real job here as a mechanic, not a programmer.
I have a List Box in a table and it is set to permit multiple items selection from it .
The fact is I can select, as I wanted, multiple items from it through the Form but when I go to the correspondent table to see the results the selected data from the List Box isn't there .
Note all data selected from the List Box is visible trough the Form but not the table .
Has this problem anything to do with mismatch in data type configuration on the table ?
When you put a combo box to search the values in a form what happens if there are more than one (in my case) name that matches the criteria. ie: if you search for Smith and there are 10 people with the surname of Smith it brings up the first record. is there a way of doing adding a "search again' function so you can look for another Smith?
I have a DB for clients that contains all kinds of info. It is getting bigger and harder to keep track of things by their ID number. The problem I am running into is that ComboBoxes and Lookups can only bind 1 column. My DB is based on Categories, then Sub-Categories, then Sub-Sub-Categories. I have done this because there is multiple criteria for each customer.
For Example, I have a Customer = ID; Location = Location_ID; Employee = Employee_ID so everything is tied to the ID, but on my phone list I need to have a list of Employee's that show the name that is tied to ID and Employee_ID.
ID is unique to each customer but I have duplicate Employee_ID for example Customer 1 has Employee 1 and Customer 2 has Employee 1, so when I use the ComboBoxes or Lookups I get Customer 1 - Employee 1 for Customer 2 - Employee 1 if I bind to Employee_ID, if I switch that to ID it is completely messed up. Now I don't care if the table stores a number, but I would like the form to display the name.
I am trying to get my forms to display a name and not an ID number and when you enter new information you can select a name and not a number.
I inherented a bunch of db from someone else, I've created / maintained db before, but this one has me stumped, the creater has a db, dbA, but dbB and dbC and dbD get the login info from dbA, has anyone done this? How is it done? I guess I get the concept, only one has to be maintained..... would appreciate any ones thoughts/comments on this
How do i actually store and display my image in a form which works when i click on a item in the listbox and it will display the image i want.Currently i'm using a unbound form with listbox and rowsource from Queries. When i click on the listbox it gave me
"you referred to a property by a numeric argument that's isn't one of the property numbers in this collection."
This is the code i tested
Quote:
Private Sub List6_Click() If Me.List6.ItemsSelected.Item(3) = "DF" Then Me.Image32.Visible = True End If End Sub
the (3) is referred to the 3rd column of the listbox right? is it because the rowsource is from a query that's why i have that error or because the query contains multiple different tables?
is there any simple way to insert image into access and it will appear in just 1 image box ? and depending on which item i click on the listbox the image will change?
how I can set multiple default values in a ComboBox in a form. The ComboBox is based on a table and my main table also uses the ComboBox.
Example:
Main table has a column "Brands". The ComboBox is based on another table which includes the following items (and thus the ComboBox also shows them):
- CocaCola - Fanta - Sprite
The form has the same ComboBox which is linked to the main table.
Now, if a user creates a new form entry, all ComboBox items should be preselected (checked). It does work with one item over the standard "Default" property.
I have a form with a combobox whose rowsource is a table that contains training course's title (CourseName) and the course's ID number.
The form is based on a training record table that is going to record which employees took what course when. This table includes both the Coursename and ID Number.
My question is: How do I have the associated course ID number automatically populate in the training record form when the user selects the coursename from the combobox?
I know how to have multiple columns fill a lookup in a combobox both from a table and a query. But I need to have the other fields that aren't saved by the combobox saved in the neighboring columns. So, my primary table is a master list of chemicals to be analyzed along with their respective registry numbers. I know what most of the programmers say about repetitive data being bad form etc. These names and registry numbers will NEVER change, so I'm not worried about a change causing problems later. I'm trying to build a separate tables that will have specific chemicals and the methods that they are analyzed under that effectively copy from the master list, but add their own quality control criteria. Further more, not all of my clients need all of the chemicals that are available for every method. It should be noted that not all chemicals are analyzed by the same methods and that some methods will have some of the same chemicals as others. I need the registry numbers because this is what the analysis software uses to uniquely identify each chemical and I need the name because names are easier for me. Long story short, I need both of these pieces together. It was suggested to have a macro copy the remaining columns from the dropbox in the table to the other columns in my table, but I'm not sure how to do this (I'm still very new to Access and my VB is very rusty). I understand how to do this for a form, but when client reporting lists become involved later on, this will make my database very bloated to have a form to populate each respective table.
We've had a problem for quite a while with regards to multiple users being able to view/run, queries/reports at the same time. If someone is running a query/report, and then someone attempts to use any other query/report that’s already using the linked .txt file they get the error message:
The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file ". It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data.
I've read various posts with regards to user rights to the folder which the DB is stored, which isn't the problem in this case (we have tested and set user access to all read, write, delete etc).
I've also read that .txt files are managed in a different way than most other file types, in that DOS controls user access rather than jet?
So my question is: Is there a way round this issue with linked tables that use .txt file as there source?
I am trying to build a Form that will show an estimate (then eventually will be moved to a project if customer and employee aggree to price and project) in a Form F_Estimates is a M_Customers(Customer_ID) (Based on a Table) and thier info in a Subform. Also is the "projected costs" from parts out of the Parts(Part_ID) (Based on another Table) in a second Subform as a list that I need to calculate $$$ in (Dang that still sounds evil and definately NOT understandable even after edit... so)
Here's some basic info
Tables
EstimatesandParts - Table EstimatesandParts_ID : Autonumber Estimate_ID : Number Part_ID : Number
Parts - Table Part_ID : Autonumber PartNumber : Text (not a number due to some part#s have letters in them) PartName : Text Unit Price : Currency Description : Text
Estimates - Table Estimate_ID : Autonumber InvoiceNumber : Text (again can have letters in it) EstimateDate : Date/Time EstimateTime : Date/Time Employee_ID : Number Customer_ID : Number ProblemDescription : Memo
Customers - Table Customer_ID : Autonumber FirstName : Text LastName : Text CompanyName : Text Address : Text City : Text Province_State : Text Postal_ZIPCode : Text (CDN Postal codes are letter num letter...)
you can see the link table in the EstimatesandParts Table
Now I want to use that link to populate a subform in the F_Estimates form
Forms
SF_Customers - SubForm
(all boxes atm are text boxes on this form till I figure out the Parts section then will use same base for this so I can pick any customer in the database to be the customer for this estimate. Also will have ctrl button for making new customer with customer form and a refresh on Focus Gain bit of code)
FirstName LastName CompanyName Address City Province_State Postal_ZIPCode
SF_Parts - SubForm Default View -Continuous Forms
(want it to be a list of parts that I can grab prices and descriptions from then in a bit of code to calculate a cost of parts)
Part_ID : Combo Box Control Source - Part_ID Row Source Type - Table/Query Row Source - SELECT Parts.Part_ID, Parts.PartNumber, Parts.PartName, Parts.UnitPrice, Parts.Description FROM Parts ORDER BY Parts.Description;
(Pulls info from the table Parts for input into a list of parts to be used on that project)
PartName : Text Box UnitPrice : Text Box
(here's where I run into problems due to the fact that the form is not based on the parts table but rather the link table EstimatesandParts so I can't propogate the info to the 2 other text boxes, ps I dont care if they cant be text boxes and have to be linked or some other type I'm not "set" just need to find out how to make it work )
(have tried a couple things to complete this task)
(works AWSOME ... for ONE ROW then propogates the second selection to the first and second and third selection to first second and third and so on ...)
(tried to make control source for the txtPartName to)
=Forms!Parts!Partname
(Doesnt exist .. akkk, cant use ActiveForm either as it doesn't focus on the SubForm but the MainForm ... cry)
(Combo Boxes Select Customer and Employee from list of present ones of each)
SF_Customers SF_Parts
(Both SubForms on the main form)
Now this is an Exerp from my entire Database I like to work on one small problem at a time and I have made this its own little database till I figure out the problem then I will bring the info I learn back into the rest of the database and go from there ...
Hope you can help I have a feeling I will need to make a recordset and go from there but I'm just not able to wrap my head around that for some reason
Thanks in advance for ANY and ALL help that I get from here
