Modules & VBA :: Opening Form From Previous ID?
Feb 10, 2015
I am using Access 2010 and want to open a new form based on an ID from a previous form. Access makes this very easy to do in the macro builder but I am unable to replicate this in VBA afterwards. The reason behind this is I want it to also run some code to export some info to Outlook. I am only filtering the ID from one form to the next. The ID is from a single table.

I was wondering if there is a code for Next and Previous record in a form but for a specific value.
Example: I have a customer that has a specific ID and that customer has a list of orders that all contain that ID. When I open a form for orders I would like to be able by using Next and Previous record buttons to be able that was to move only through records of that customer not the whole list of orders for every customer.

I'm trying to make it a little further with my new call answering database at work.
Basically it consists of a main form that has a button leading to a call answering form for each business that we represent. it also has a text box that displays the number of the caller when the telephone picks up, the correct call answering screen is also popped by the telephone software and a macro whenever the phone is answered.
I've got code in place that automatically puts the date and time in the correct field and also copy the incoming telephone number from the main form into the caller number field on the call answering form.
I'd like to take this automation a little further now and get the form to autopopulate the caller details if that caller has called before (we get a lot of calls from the same people) so i'd like to make the form search the table it's linked to for the incoming phone number and to fill in the name, email, company etc... for the caller according to the previous record.
The code for the 2 forms i've currently got setup (the switchboard and one call answering screen) are as follows
Switchboard:-
Code:
Option Compare Database
Dim WithEvents MaxxCom As Metro_MaxxCom_CTI_COM_API.CTI
Private Sub cmd_onnet_Click()
DoCmd.OpenForm FormName:="On_Net_Communications"
End Sub
[Code] .....

I'm trying to have a form sorted in a particular order when it's opened.
When using the "order by" option in the properties sheet, it is sorted the way I want the first time I open the form.
However, if I change the order afterwards while using the form (for instance, by right clicking and selecting another sort order), well the next time the form is opened, it is sorted with this new sort order, and not the default one.
So I tried to add the following code :
Code:
Private Sub Form_Open()
Me.OrderBy "employee_name ASC"
Me.OrderByOn = True
End Sub
Which failed epically.

I have a table that has two forms linked to it - one is the Main Form which is used to input the data for the bulk of entries, however on some entries there will be some additional data required which the other form (lets call it Time Form) takes care of.
What I would like to do is have a button on the Main Form that opens the Time Form, and then go to the specific record that is open on the Main Form;I have an ID field (Autonumber + Primary Key) which displays in a text box on the main form, and it would provide the number of the record for the second form to open.

IThe db has a form called ClientFormNew which logs client details into a table called Clients.Each client has a unique client ID in the table called ClientID. Sometimes Clients call back for further information and we want to log that information into a related table called ClientHistory.Each record in the ClientHistory table has a unique ID called HistoryID which is the same number as the ClientID so these fields are related.
When a client calls back and the telephone adviser opens up the ClientFormNew form and discovers they have called before they need to click on a button called Client History which then opens up the ClientHistoryForm..I am struggling with the code to put on the Client History button as I want the new form to display the details of the clients first contact then allow details of the second contact to be added in a new row. Also the new form needs to show all that client past history which would be in the form of the following fields from the ClientHistory table.HistoryID, ContactDate, Name, ContactMethod, ContactReason, AdviceGiven, Notes.

I want to that the WHERE clause for a SQL statement that I am using options on a form to build. I intend to use the clause in opening a datasheet form.
This is the code I have for getting the substring
Code:
Dim intPos As Integer
Dim tempString As String
Dim BaseQueryFormStr As String
'BaseQueryFormStr is used to reopen the BaseMasterQueryFrm with the specified parameters
tempString = "WHERE"
intPos = InStr(1, strSQL, tempString, vbTextCompare)
BaseQueryFormStr = Left(strSQL, intPos - 1)
MsgBox (BaseQueryFormStr)
The value of intPos remains=0 and when the program hits the second to last line I get "run-time error 5"

I have the following module in my database to allow for multiple alarms.
It all works great, except before showing the actual alarm record called, the form first pops up showing the first record in its record source.
I.e. it flashes up showing the first record in the table, then changes to the 'correct' record.
I would just like to change it so it either doesn't show until the record is loaded, or it shows blank to begin with.
Here's the module...
Code:
Option Compare Database
Option Explicit
Public clnPopUpAlarm As New Collection 'Instances of frmPopUpAlarm
[Code].....

I have a Form opening from Access Options. I would like to close this Form using the Timer. The following is the code I have used but it is not working.
Private Sub Cover_Page_Form_Load()
OpenTimer = Timer
End Sub
Private Sub Cover_Page_Form_Timer()
If (Timer - OpenTime) = 5 Then DoCmd.Close acForm, "Cover_Page_Form", acSaveYes
End Sub
Next question. If I can get this to work can I then use a DoCmd to open new Form within the code above or do I need a new process.

Basically what I have is a form where operators can input certain information about a production process, in particular the kg input which has gone into the 'basket'. However this is divided by customer order number and sometimes more than one customers order is placed into the same basket. This means that the weight of the record is not representative of the weight in the basket, and it is the weight of the basket which determines efficiency in the process.
Each basket is designated a 'Disc Number' which is put in the basket so the parts contained can be identified after the process. What I am trying to do is right a code, whether in my table or form (or somehow creating a query) which compares the disc number of the previous record (or previous 2 or 3) and if they are the same the totals are combined. Each record the user places has a hidden ID which keeps them in order, and the records with the same disc number will always be entered after one another in that sequence.
How would I be able to code something to deal with this and where would I put it?The table in question which contains the records is called Thetatbl and then form it links to is Thetafrm. The weight of each record is contained in Orderkgtxt.

I have partially done it using PrevRecVal module I found on the web.
I created what I need to do in Access in Excel first, the problem doing this in Access (for me) is I need to refer to the results in the previous record, PrevRecVal worked but I need to finish if possible.
The main report holds client policy data of which InvestAmount is used to start the calculation of the sub report, the data entered to run the calculations on the subreport would be
QtrDate
CurrentUnitPrice
The Excel spreadsheet is attached ....

I am trying to write some vba code to auto fill a cell's value based on the value of the cell in the previous record (In a datasheet form) i.e. if the value in record one was '1' and the down-arrow key was pressed then the value '2' should be entered into the new ext record
I have written some pseudo-code to show what I am trying to accomplish:
if keydown = down-arrow and current cell contents isnumeric then
Cval = current cell contents
if current record = last record then
create new record
move down 1 record
set cell value of new record to cval+1
else
move down 1 record
if cell value = null then set cell value of record to cval+1
end if
end if

It is a continuous subform (Names: Form = ClientUpdate / Subform = ClientUpdateSub.
All of the data implicated here is direct and in the subform's query table including the button we want to program.
(This is my example but it wont stay in columns in this "post box" )
IDNo App _ID App_Freq App_Date GetDates Action_Date
22 18 56 21-Jun-13 BUTTON 14-Jun-13
21 19 56 16-Aug-13 BUTTON 9-Aug-13
*
The GetDates Command BUTTON should generate the red data above, like:
Private Sub GetDates_Click()
Go to a new record
Go to the field App_Freq and fill it with:
Copy/paste the data from the field of the same name in the previous record
Go to the field App_Date and fill it with:
data based on this calculation using the PREVIOUS record fields: App_Date + App_Freq (which are days)
Go to the field Action_Date and fill it with:
data based on this calculation: App_Date (of current record now filled out - step above), minus 7 (days).
End Sub
That's it!
All the dates format is set to medium date. An error message should come up in case App_Freq is empty, for example
Also note that the data can be manually changed at any time and should not revert to its last calculation. The button only generate data into a new record.

I want subtrack a value on the current record from the previous record and display the result in text box in subform datasheet. This is done during data entry. The calculation works most of the time and randomly it returns the wrong value. I have the code in an after update event after I enter a number. Here is what my code looks like:
sysHopSpacing = Abs([sysHop1] - DLookup("[sysHop1]", "tblSystemConfiguration", "[sysBaseNumber]=Forms![frmTempestCoordination]![frmSubSystem]![sysBaseNumber] - 1 "))
This is how I generate the sysBaseNumber
sysBaseNumber = Nz(DMax("sysBaseNumber", "tblSystemConfiguration", "sysAccountID=" & Forms!frmTempestCoordination!accAccountID), 0) + 1
I am using DMax so I can keep the subform records with the parent form record.
My results are inconsistant:
This is what I want the subform to do when subtracking from the previous record
syshop1 sysHopSpacing
5
20 15
30 10
Instead I get a result that does not make sense like this:
sysHop1 sysHopSpacing
5
20 15
30 4
I cant trace it down.

The next stage I'd like to include is a match and enter pricing details. We get a lot of repeat work that is entered onto our system, due to the nature of the work we do each item is then checked individually. There is a portion of this that could be automated.Our order intake table has an amount of information, various bits of which are supplied by various customers, but not always all of the information is required or given.
Id like a price to be copied from a previous record where the "shots" field matches a previous entry.The other fields that would need to be similar are the "coverage" "drawing no" "pattern no"..But only when these fields are populated, we often, but not always put a - in these fields where the information is not given. I think this may be bad practice, but it shows us the information has not been supplied, and not just missed from the order.
To sum up, when an order is completed i'd like to have an afterupdate event that searches the previous records, where cover, drawing no / pattern no are *matching* and the shots do match, then copy the price of a matching record, where that record is within 12 months of today (using the date_rec field) and then tick an "automated_price" field so i know the price has been generated by the system.

I currently have two forms: frmE_SAFind and frmE_SAOrder
frmE_SAFind shows results from a query including fields [txtIDPO] and [dtmDate]
Example:
IDPO Date
btnOpnFrm 6543 2/1/05
btnOpnFrm 5681 1/1/05
frmE_SAOrder shows order details including [txtIDPO] and [dtmDate]
I have a open form command button set up on [frmE_SAFind] that opens [frmE_SAOrder]. Is it possible for me to modify its properties so that when the open form command button is clicked, the order details in [frmE_SAOrder] will represent the order that the user is selecting via the btnOpnFrm command?
Example: If I click btnOpnFrm for 6543, [frmE_SAOrder] will show me PO 6543 details.
Hopefully I made myself clear enough to understand. Thanks for your help!

I have a form based on an underlying query in a .mdb database. I want to be able to navigate backwards and forwards in the form using .movenext and .moveprevious etc.
Which sort of recordset should I use? I've seen discussions about ADO and DAO, and have come across the term "forward-only", which I'd not been aware of before.
Having made the choice, what is the correct syntax for opening the appropriate recordset, and also for .movenext and .moveprevious etc?

I have a big table, EquipmentDetails and separately I have job plans.Job plans can have many pieces of equipment. I store the relationship in EquipmentDetails_JobPlanDetails, but am feeling frustrated as I can't seem to get Access to build the SQL query from this in the way I want.
I am generating a List Box in a form which is populated from a query.The query calls on a table which lists ItemID from EquipmentDetails and JobID and in the current form (where the list box is) I want to pick up and display the ItemIDs associated with that JobID. The current JobID reaches my form correctly (I've proven this by displaying it in a text box) from the previous form.
The problem I have is that I can't seem to get the SQL query to only get ItemIDs that are linked to the current JobID. No matter what I try, it either gets all of the ones in that table, or I can't compose one.What kind of SQL do I need to only grab the ones relating to the current JobID please?I've tried building it in the design view but it says that it can't do it because the outer joins are ambiguous.

I've got one form that a user will start on, titled "Query Form" - Only one text box is here and it is titled "text0"
Upon hitting enter here, a new form is opened up titled "Time_IN_Form".
What I would like to do is have the value from text0 on the Query Form to automatically populate Emp_ID on Time_IN_Form so the user doesn't have to enter their employee number twice (only once via the first form).
What is the best way to do this? I have tried playing with global variables but didnt have any luck with that.
