Modules & VBA :: Push Data From Access To SQL
Apr 7, 2015
I have 3 text files, I receive daily, that I need to import into my database. Until we upsized to SQL, we were manipulating the data in Access, and everything was fine.
These three files do not come with a primary key, and we have to insert one row of information into one of the tables. Once we get the flat files, we use our import specifications to set the field types, etc.
Our process works like this:
1. Get the files and import them by spec.
2. Compare one of the import tables (importTable_new) to the current table and write the differences to a third table.
3. Delete out the data from the old tables and copy the new information into them.
This process cannot change due to the way our system is setup. Our data gets filtered prior to us receiving the file, so we have to make sure we always use the most current data from the extracts. We have saved previous data in other tables, so I am not worried about that part.
My problem is this: I am using a DSN-less connection (ODBC) to the SQL server and if I try to run a query that updates the SQL-tables, using a local table, it errors out. There are a myriad of errors that came out of this, I have tried to hunt down what I could and solved a fair amount. However, I continually get:
MS Jet OLEDB 4.0 cannot be used for distributed queries because the provider is used to run in apartment mode.
I have done the steps on the SQL server to remedy this error to no avail (turning on ad hoc reporting, etc).
I have tried OpenRowSet, but that did not work out all due to the continual error from the server.
I tried to use an SSIS and it drops the import specifications on import to SQL from Access.
All I want to do is take three local tables and paste the results in the matching 3 SQL tables in the backend, without deleting the tables (or if I have to delete the tables, to be able to re-create them with the right field types and settings). The tables are identical in field type, name, size, etc.
We are using SQLserver2008(R2) and Access2010.

Need some feed back here.
Have I pushed Access to the limit? Everything runs great, although I do have some hecups, once in awhile but nothing major.
I'm at 100 megs. I have 40 users with read/write. I have maybe 300 users with read only.
The IT people told me that Access is not design to do this kind of work. I mention that it been running for over 7 years, with very few problems.
Those problems I created myself.
I guess I need some feed back from what you think.

I searched the archive and didn't find quite what I was looking for, so..
I have an Excel 2003 spreadsheet work-in-progress being used as a template (developed by others) to prepare project cost estimates in a complex regulatory environment. We are 'modelling on the fly' for a number of projects until we are comfortable with the estimate model, after which time I intend to incorporate our 'stable' estimate methodology into Access. Meanwhile, I am 'stuck' with the Excel spreadsheet.
I have a project tracking database (Access 2003), and I want to be able to track my estimates. I do NOT want to embed my spreadsheets into the db, just a filelink. There can be more than 1 estimate per project.
Ideally, the user should be able to define a project in the Access db (or select one already defined) and click a 'make estimate' button, which would generate a new Excel file in a predefined directory (based on the present version of the .xlt file), give it an appropriate filename (based on the Access ProjectID and estimate sequence number for that project if there were others already), open up that workbook in Excel, and then autopopulate some cells based on information showing on the original form in Access!
A separate button for 'Open existing estimate' will eventually be required, but I think I could do that if I can get someone to walk me through the steps required above.
I am somewhat familiar with vba in Access, but am an absolute rookie when it comes to excel.
Edit: I left out that I would also add an appropriate record to a table like tblEstimate which would contain the link(s) to the estimate(s). This table will obviously contain a FK to tblProject

Hey Everyone. I'm a Novice so don't know if what I'm asking is either easy or hard to do. I have a DB for our record label. One table is Incoming Materials, the other is Assigned Materials.
I need a button that when pressed takes all the data from one table and put into the other. Both tables contain the same fields although Assigned Materials has alot more obviously.
Anyone done anything like this before or have any clue how I can do this. Keep in mind that I'm an annoying Novice. Thanks for any help. I promise I won't be a Novice for long

I have created a report that includes 4 subreports. The subreports are displaying survey results from 4 different survey channels. New survey data is added to the tables monthly so the subreports will grow in size. Is there a way to have the subreports automatically resize and push down the subreport below? Currently what is happening is a subreport will grow and the additional data disappears underneath the next subreport. Is there a better way to create a report that displays information from multiple reports that will change in size?

Using the code below I am able to open an explorer window from access and select most of a file path. The part I am not able to get is "LN" which is a field in my forms. I need to be able to pull the current LN number into my Modules file path. How do I do this? Is it easier to go by ID or the actual field I am looking for?
Code:
Function Loan_Folder_Search3()
Dim rs As Recordset
Dim LN As String
Dim Client_Name As String
Dim RetVal As String
Dim LFPath As String
[Code] ....
Currently, it keeps pulling the first record, no matter what record I'm on.

I am trying to generate standard Avery 2160 address labels. Fonts are small enough to allow for up to 4 print lines none of which quite touch. Players have entered their own names and addresses via a website form, so I we never quite know what is in the fields. If the player has a foreign address, it will all be entered in the address field, whereas US addresses have 1 or 2 lines in the address field, and city, state and zip in their respective fields. Line 1 is set as name, no shrink or grow. Line 2 is set as address, shrink and grow set to yes, and line 3 (text4) is set for city & state & zip, concatenated and trimmed in the query, shrink and grow no. The detail OnPrint event is the following:
Code:
Private Sub Detail_Print(Cancel As Integer, PrintCount As Integer)
Me.Text4.Visible = False
If Len(Text4 & vbNullString) > 1 Then
Me.Text4.Visible = True
End If
End Sub
The problem: Any row containing at least one label with 4 print lines pushes the next entire row of three labels down one line, throwing off the spacing of the labels. If I set line 3's can shrink to yes, then the label following the four-line label never has its text4.visible turned to yes, and the other problem (pushing next row down one line) persists. These labels were originally set up via the labels wizard (Access 2010).
How can I keep it from overflowing from one label to push down the next line? This just shouldn't be this hard!

I am using Excel/VBA as a frontend and Access backend. The sheet2 stores the queue name and Queue number. We have to update the sheet1 from column L to column O by looking for the values from the Access table for the date selected from the comboboxes. Now In sheet 2 , it says Queue number and in actual in access table it is the combination of Type & Type1 & Type2. So we have to look for Type & Type1 & Type2 in the table and find out total Batches ,Total Envelopes,Total documents and total pages and then store the values in the ExcelSheet1 from column L to column O.
The following formulas will be used in the select statment:
Total Batches = count(BatchNo) for date selected
Total Envelopes=sum(Envelopes) for date selected
Total Documents=sum(Cases) for date selected
Total Pages=sum(Pages) for date selected

using VBA in Access and Excel. I have an Excel form that I am using to collect data as the front end and an Access database to house the data as the back end. In my Access database I want to create a module that will open the excel files and retrieve data from Active X combo boxes, option buttons and checkboxes that are on the Excel form. I have been searching for the VBA code to get data from these objects but have not been able to find any examples. How to reference these objects and get the values from the excel form

It's been some time since I wrote the following, which takes a string made up of "Lastname Firstname Telephone" and writes it at a specific time in Outlook. It uses Late binding so it works across all Oulook versions.
Code:
Public Function funOutputAppointmentToOutlook(dtmDate As Date, strSubject As String)
Dim olApp As Object
Dim mNameSpace As Object
Const olFolderCalendar = 9
Const olAppointmentItem = 1
[Code] ....
I would like to first check the specific Outlook time slot whether the string exists already and only if it does not exist to write it.

I get XML's from a site and want to import the data to Access. If I use the native import then I get multiple tables and the data is a little jumbled. For instance: I get 1 table with track names and a different table for track numbers with no way to relate the to accurately. I would like to be able to parse out the XML and have it update my table as it goes so I have less "junk" in my DB. I just can't figure out how to call out the XML tag and tell it to copy that info to the correct field.

I often create contract using mail merge. I have an access file that I want to use as data source for word file. But it does not automatically.
Please see the attached file !
If there are 1 customer and 1 property, I do not need to do anything. Conversely, if there are many customers and many properties, I take time to manipulate.
Firstly, I open the word file. I have to copy and paste paragraphs that I want. Highlight of the original paragraphs is blue.
Secondly, I click 'Insert Word Field' -> select 'Next Record'.
In short, I want to use VBA in access file to automatically perform the steps that I have outlined.

I have a text file that details every single incident that happened in the system. This means that it is extremely messy and non-comprehensible to a normal person due to the use of codewords and all.
Is it possible to scan through the document and insert the data into access, such that the different keywords are put as seperate events?
Ps, the number of characters between each event and data may not always be the same, so seperating them by that is not the way to do it. However, when I open the file in notepad++, I can confirm that each event is 6 lines.
E.g. Line 1 = Event timestamp, Line 2 = Event Name, Line 3 = Acknowledged or not, Line 4 = Acknowledged by who, Line 5 = Event Details, Line 6 = Application Owner.
Basically, the 6 lines are the 6 columns that I would need in my table. So, is it possible to separate out and read every 6 lines of data in the text file?

In a Access 2003 database, I have an "Inscriptions" (subscription) database with a primary key on 2 fields idPersonnel (employee) and idSession. I have made a form so that user can select a session (in a listbox), then one or more employee (another listbox) and suscribe them to that session by using a button, which, on VBA side, first check that there is enough room on the session (defined by "MaxParticipants" field on "Sessions" table, linked to "Inscriptions" table on idSession), then insert data in "Inscriptions" table
This is working fine in a single-user environnement, but fails if 2 people want to join some employees on the same session at the same time, as I have a confirmation message between check and insertion. Therefore 2 users can select employees, get the confirmation message (at this point both are told there is enough room), resulting in having more people than expected joined to the session. Fortuneatly, if both users try to insert the same employee(s) to that table, one will get a duplicate error, but insertion will be made if employees are different.
On another DB engine, such as SQL server, I would use a stored procedure that would lock the table, do the check and the insertion then unlock the table.
But it does not seem to be possible in MS Access. What are the possibilities in MS Access to prevent a session from having more than maximum number of participants ?

I have an Excel file with a name range "DBIAS" which identifies all database data.
Then I have an Access file with a form to import that database (better, that named range) into an Access table. While importing, I have to filter some records or grouping by some field.
I cannot run correctly a VBA code to get data (filtered and/or grouped) from that name range and save those records to an existing or a brand new table.
I could get those data as DAO.recordset and printed out with "Debug.print" on immediate window, but I cannot complete the final step: writing those records to a table.

I am using Access 2010.Most of the time a tenant pays his exact rent. When that happens, I currently type in the payment (taken form the Rent field) and date of payment (current date) into a form. The date should not change.
I would like to place a checkbox into the form. If checked, the rent would be entered into the payment field and payment date (current date) would be entered automatically. Otherwise, I would just enter in the payment and date manually.
FIELDS
Rent
Payment
PaymentDate
on form chkPayment

I am trying to write code in an excel worksheet to try to export excel data to a table in access.
The range in which the data is situated in excel varies. So the range address varies with the data. After a lot of searching I wrote the following code which works for a range which is fixed. The code is the following:
Dim acc As New Access.Application
Range(Range("b22"), Range("b22").End(xlDown)).Select
ActiveWorkbook.Names.Add Name:="ghazla", RefersTo:=Selection
acc.OpenCurrentDatabase "D:PayRollFactoryJasminePayroll.accdb"
acc.DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet _
[Code] .....
As one can see from the first two lines of code I am trying to first delineate the range and then to name it. The intent is to name the range "ghazla" and so to cater for the fact that the extent of data varies.
The code works with the fixed range ="Sheet2$B140". However what I need to do is to adjust the code so that I can insert "ghazla" as the range name so that this can vary.

I have a database that had some code that enabled the user to click a button and it would take information from one Access query or table and paste it into specific locations in Excel. This is important because the last worksheet has specific formatting in place.
If it didn't, I'd just use the transfer spreadsheet option and not even bother opening Excel at all with code.
I've got it working well except for the last part. The last query being copied has eight records and only one is being sent to Excel. Same code as the other queries where all of their data is going to the right spot in Excel with the right number of records.
Private Sub AM_Top_25_Click()
DoCmd.SetWarnings False
DoCmd.OpenQuery "delete_ShortPartItems", acNormal, acEdit
DoCmd.OpenQuery "append_to_Short_Part_Items", acNormal, acEdit
[Code] .....
