Modules & VBA :: Query Inserts Wrong Data In Table
Apr 30, 2015
I am writing the following query to insert data in tblpostroom from another table. Both the tables have same field names like Date1,582,1810.Now If I run the following query then in the fields 582,1810 of tblpostroom , the data gets stored 582,1810 respectively for all the records. But in actual fields 582 and 1810 store different data.
Code:
INSERT INTO tblpostroom ( Date1, 582, 1810 )
SELECT Date1, 582, 1810
FROM Sheet1;

hello!
I'm wondering how would I, in Access, make a query that would let me do a UNION and then insert that data into a table?
Is there a way that I could achieve that in one(1) query?
I've tried with INTO, but I get an error.
(i'm using access 2000-2003)
thanks!

I my form i have a textbox into which the user can enter a value that will serve as criteria in a query.
In the beforeupdate of this textbox there is a check about the validity of the input. If this input is wrong, a message tells the user what's wrong .
In such a case i like to cancel the event but in the same time clearing the textbox.
Canceling isn't a problem, but automatically clearing the wrong input seems not to be so evident.
How can i do that ?

I am not sure how this query I made is pulling up wrong data. Everything else is fine, except for 1 row of data. It is supposed to pull how many demonstations were scheduled for that day and how many were executed. It comes up with 4 demos and 8 executed. That can't be right. I checked it with the actual data and there are 6 demos total and 4 executed. Anyone know what could be going on there? For the other 30 something records it works just fine.
SQL:
SELECT [Promo count].PromoNo, [Promo count].[# of Demos], Count(DemoOrder.Status) AS CountOfStatus, CountOfStatus/[# of Demos] AS Percentage
FROM [Promo count] INNER JOIN DemoOrder ON [Promo count].PromoNo = DemoOrder.PromoNo
WHERE (((DemoOrder.Status)="E"))
GROUP BY [Promo count].PromoNo, [Promo count].[# of Demos];

I have a table that has four columns. Column 1 had people's names, column 2 has their email, 3 has a category, and 4 has their office.
I have a form with radio buttons, When you check a radio button and press OK it will display the e-mails for the people selected. Problem comes when it's by category, since categories are not unique to one person. I want to click the category radio button and have it display every person under that category, concatenated with a comma.
Problem is I can't make a listbox because it will show the same categories several times instead of just once, so I want the radio button with the category name on its label, and then in the code I need to tell Access to go to the table and search for the e-mails from a specified criteria, the category.
How do I do this?

I have a function that when called transfers a query recordset to an excel spreadsheet then emails it. At the end of the function I use code to write the date sent to a table. Each time the function is called I only need records in the query that have been modified since the last time the function was called. I have a field in the query 'LastModified' with a criteria '>[Enter Date]'. I then look up the date in the table and enter it manually. I know how to look up the last date sent in table using code but getting the >#SomeDate# in the query with VBA.
Code:
DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet acExport, , "qryUpdateWebmaster", _
"C:SubmarinersUpdates_Sent" & fname & ".xlsx", True, "Webmaster_Update"

see below the code . The select statement searches the Printpoolno value from the top to bottom in table tblmaster. As in my table tblmaster there are thousands of records and it takes long to search for that Printpoolno from the table . Is there anyway we can write a query that will search the table from bottom to top as the Printpoolno will always be in the bottom records and not in the top records.
Code:
Dim cn As ADODB.Connection
Dim rs As ADODB.Recordset
Dim r As Long
[Code].....

I have an application set up as follows:
Live front end in one network folder, accessible by all users.
Development front end in another folder accessible only by myself (changes imported into Live as and when necessary).
Back end in another folder accessed by both front ends.
One of the tables contains orders made by various people. The way the data entry form is set up is that, once a person's ID has been entered, all previous orders are displayed in a sub form at the bottom of the screen.
I'm noticing that, if two people are entering new records into it via two different PCs, it sometimes happens that one person can see an inserted record, only for it to later vanish from both the form and the underlying table. There is no pattern to these 'disappearances', but it's obviously concerning.
Possibly more worrying is that, from time to time, all records for the person being updated are being lost, not just the most recent entries being made.
I have the database set to Record Level Locking. Can anyone suggest anything else I should be looking out for or should have done?
The only other thing I can think of is that I sometimes enter records from the development version, while it is open in development mode, with just the data entry form being out of design mode. Would that make a difference? If so, why?
I'm stumped here.:confused:

This one is very annoying...
i have a button that is supposed to update a record based on the record id. when i click the button, it not only updates the record, but it also creates a new record with just the default values i have set for the table. no other values are entered into the table. here is the code that is relevant to the problem:
Code:Dim DAOdb As Database Dim DAOrs As dao.Recordset Dim sSQL As String Set DAOdb = CurrentDb() sSQL = "Select * from StopwatchRecord where StopwatchRecord.ID=" & Me.hidID & ";" Set DAOrs = DAOdb.OpenRecordset(sSQL) With DAOrs .Edit .Fields("StartTime") = Me.StartTime.Value .Fields("EndTime") = Me.EndTime.Value .Fields("ElapsedTime") = Me.ElapsedTime.Value .Fields("Comments") = Me.Comments.Value .Update End With MsgBox "Record Saved" DAOrs.Close DAOdb.Close
Please help! this is driving me nuts
thanks

I am trying to issue multiple INSERT statements in a row - but it seems that only the first succeeds. If I put a 1-second delay between attempts, suddenly they all succeed (so I know the statements themselves are all valid, it's not a data issue).
These are all being issued in a loop from the same thread, so as far as I can see unless the data is being inserted asynchronously, I can't see any problem. If it is being done asynchronously - how are we supposed to know one INSERT succeeded and thus we can issue the next one?
Anyone have any idea why this might happen? I don't want to leave 'magic delays' in the code!

Hi All,
I have been searching and can't seem to find how to solve my problem. I have a sub form that allows adding new rows to a database. The detail contains a combobox and a few text fields. When I enter data everything works fine. However when I accidently tab into the next row (new blank row) and then try to get out of the form without adding a new row I get an error about "Index or Primary Key cannot be null" or something like that.
It is very frustrating because I can't exit the form until I add data to the new row and then leave without tabbing to much (thus creating another new row with no data).
How do I trap the new row and only allow the insert if it has data in it?
Thanks.

I have 2 excel sheets that I have imported as external data. I created a relationship between the 2 tables on part# field that is common to both. The relationship is to take all info from A table and only those from B table that match. The part# field is set to text in both tables. When I run a report that merges the 2 together a significant # of parts in my field change to a negative number. For instance the part# in both tables are 12345678 it is changed to a random -3452345 number..
Any ideas?

I have a cool little form for the use of the organization's treasurer wherein she enters checks and deposits. I have a query that generates a running sum, so each line in the accounting report based on the table has the account total as of that date. The query behind the report is exactly what I want and is in the correct order. For example, the four transactions for 9/15/2014 are in the order entered, and the line total is correct. The report insists on listing the 4 in the example in some other order with or without OrderBy specified. With code from someone, perhaps on this forum, I added the following to the OnPage event:
Code:
Private Sub Report_Page()
Const TWIPSPERINCH = 1440
' Offset from right edge of Control where our
' Vertical Line will start - adjust as you desire.
' Expressed in Twips
Dim intLineMargin As Integer
[code]....
The result is a beautiful report (albeit in the wrong order) with vertical lines all the way to the bottom of the page.If I remove the OnPage code, the report is still in the wrong order, so obviously that wasn't the problem. OK, I think it is corrupted. I open a new db, import all into it. Still in wrong order. So next, I begin to recreate the report from scratch. Hooray! Right order! But I still want the vertical lines between the columns. So now, I copy the OnPage code and paste it into the new report's OnPage code. I get error message: "Compile error: User-defined type not defined" with the line "Dim MIPSstr As udtPrtMips_str" highlighted. Ok, I delete all of it and reenter it line for line manually, leaving out the comments. Get the same error message. After trying to research it, the only suggestions were to add Activex reference which can't be the problem, because the other version of the report doesn't throw an error and both are in the same db.
I have attached a clip of the report and a clip of the underlying query. As you can see in the first capture.png, the check numbers are in the wrong order and the amounts in the Total line don't sync with the total above adjusted by the amount on that line.

Hello,
I've been trying to modify a database I downloaded from the Microsoft site
entitled
'Inventory management database.mdb'. Using Macros developed by microsoft for their example database (which I've
modified) a macro opens up a list of reports - which can be individually opened up by
clicking on them. However, when I try to open up one of my reports which
appears on the list, I get the following error message:
"An expression you entered is the wrong data type for one of the arguments
You tried to run a macro or use a method to carry out am action, but an
expression
evaluated the wrong data type."
I guessed this meant I had perhaps specified the wrong datatype in my table,
rom where I had written my list of reports, but this all seemed okay when I
checked and compared it with the working original. I had specified text (and
autonumber for the report ID number)
Can anyone point me in the right direction with this?
Many thanks.

Hi all,
I have a couple of subforms on one particular PC where the data is showing in some strange font, WingDings or something like that. On my PC the data shows correctly.
Please see screenshot here: http://www.confetti.ie/screenshot1.jpg
I tried changing the Font Name for all the controls in the subform to common fonts Arial, Times etc but it still shows as WingDings.
I also tried changing the default font under Edit > Options to common fonts with no change. In the Options I tried changing font options on the Datasheet and Tables/Queries tab.
Thanks

There are two tabs named Table1 and Table2. In actual there are two tables in Access database named Table1 and Table2. How the data is stored in ACcess tables, I have made two tabs in excel workbook. Now I want Access VBA code that will check if data in Reference field of Table1 matches with any of the data in Reference field of Table2.
If it matches then change the status of the corresponding record of Table2 with either "Withdrawn","Obsolete" or "Updated". SO it depends upon which field out of "WIthdrawn","Obsolete" and "Updated" in Table1 stores "Y". At a time only one of them will have "Y" and rest of two fields will have "N" as shown in the sheets.
As in the example, now Reference "R566" of Table1 matches with Table2 Reference so the status field in Table2 for that record will be "WithDrawn".

I have 2 controls on a form cmbFed and cmbState both are formatted as fixed with decimal places as 2. They display the correct values. cmbFed = .18 cmbState = .06 When I add a new control to add the 2. =[cmbFed]+[cmbState] result is .18.06 instead of .24 It looks like it is treating them as text. I even tried to do it in code Me.text639 = Me.cmbFed + Me.cmbState with the same results. It must be something simple I am missing a format for text639?

i am using the following function in a query:
Code:
Public Function Progress(ByVal varCompany As Variant _
, ByVal varPercent As Variant) As Variant
Static varCompanyOld As Variant
Static varValueOld As Variant
Dim Value As Variant
If varCompany & vbNullChar = varCompanyOld Then
Value = (1 + varPercent) * varValueOld
varValueOld = Value
[code]....
This function is working if I use it with two or more companies.If I have only one company, it works at the first (query) run, too.But with the same company, a second (query) run calculates different results.
I think it is because of this condition:
Code:
If varCompany & vbNullChar = varCompanyOld Then ...
If the company name is e.g. Microsoft
At the first run of the query:
Microsoft & vbNullChar = "" -> wrong
The Else calculation will be carried out.
-> That is right for the first datapoint of a company
At a second run of the query:
varCompanyOld is saved as Microsoft & vbNullChar, so:
Microsoft & vbNullChar = Microsoft & vbNullChar -> True
The main calculation will be carried out.
-> That is wrong for the first datapoint of a company

I am using the following control source for a text box on a report: =nz([Raw_Turb], "---")When I do, it pulls data from a different field from the data source. I am pulling the data directly from the data table. I have tried creating a query and get similar results only from a different data field!I have tried the same control source on a different report and it works correctly! Why does it not work on the current report?

Access 2010
I am trying to check for when a user trys to enter a duplicate number.
The control that I am checking is in a subform on the main form:
Main: frmCandidateInfo
Sub: frmTestInfo
Control on the subform is: RankOrder
I am trying to check the control entry against the table entry:
Table: tblTestEvents
Field: RankOrder
Here is what I have:
Code:
Private Sub RankOrder_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer)
Dim lngRankDup As Long
lngRankDup = Nz(DLookup("[RankOrder]", "tblTestEvents", "[RankOrder]=" & Forms!frmCandidateInfo!sfTestInfo!Form!RankOrder, 0))
If lngRankDup <> 0 Then
MsgBox TestEventID & " already exists in the database"
End If
End Sub
I know that the error is due to the argument not being correct, but I am not sure how to fix it.
I have tried:
Code:
lngRankDup = Nz(DLookup("[RankOrder]", "tblTestEvents", "[RankOrder]=" & Me.RankOrder, 0))
Code:
lngRankDup = Nz(DLookup("[RankOrder]", "tblTestEvents", "[RankOrder]=" & [RankOrder], 0))
Code:
lngRankDup = Nz(DLookup("[RankOrder]", "tblTestEvents", "[RankOrder]=" & Forms!sfTestInfo!Form!RankOrder, 0))
But nothing seems to work.

I have a field that is pre filled in with a value. The name is "Business".Then there is a combo box with various values. If the user would select a value that does not match with values that can be selected if in "business" a value is selected, it should show a message that the selection is wrong and user needs to select the correct one.
Example:If in the field "Business" the value "Food" is selected, then the possible values to be selected in the combobox would be: Fruit or Meet or Fast Food. If the value in "Business" would be "Wood" only selections could be made: Talble or Chair or Cabinet.So, if a user select "Food' in "Business" and in the combo box "Chair", it should show a message that the wrong selection was made and don't let them use the wrong one.

I have this Access application. The Incidents table was created incorrectly. apparently the design was not thought over. The Incidents table was created to store employee accidents. However, since the employee data is based in nicely normalized data, all Incident reports will have the employee's PRESENT data, instead of the Department, Cost Center, Location, etc., that the employee was at the time of the incident. I want to de-normalize the Incidents table and add the Department, Cost Center, Location, etc., that belong to the employee at the time of the incident, I have added the columns to the table, but I am having problems getting the data from the normalized tables to the Incidents table in the Click event of the AddIncident command button. I have tried to create queries, but can not get them to work. I was unable to send the mdb, but attach is the AddIncident event. In the Fields statement, I want to get a field data from another table. For example, the present Employees table, which always has the employees present info, contains the AutoNumber Key to the rest of the normalized tables, Department, Cost Center, Location, etc; I want to get the actual Department name, Cost Center number, etc, and put it in the Incidents table. The Employees table has the data I want for the time of the incident. But the employee may change Department, Cost Center, Location, etc, before his next incident. :confused:

I am using Excel/VBA as a frontend and Access backend. The sheet2 stores the queue name and Queue number. We have to update the sheet1 from column L to column O by looking for the values from the Access table for the date selected from the comboboxes. Now In sheet 2 , it says Queue number and in actual in access table it is the combination of Type & Type1 & Type2. So we have to look for Type & Type1 & Type2 in the table and find out total Batches ,Total Envelopes,Total documents and total pages and then store the values in the ExcelSheet1 from column L to column O.
The following formulas will be used in the select statment:
Total Batches = count(BatchNo) for date selected
Total Envelopes=sum(Envelopes) for date selected
Total Documents=sum(Cases) for date selected
Total Pages=sum(Pages) for date selected

I am trying to use SQL to run queries in our access database in order to (hopefully) speed things up. I'm trying to create code that basically takes data from one table and inserts it into another whilst doing calculations on the data.
However I can't get past this:
Code:
Private Sub Test_Click()
Dim strSQL As String
strSQL = "CREATE TABLE [TempRedAmberGreen]" & _
"AS (SELECT " & _
"[ID_CHK] String," & _
"[Red] String," & _
"[Amber] String," & _
"[Green] String)" & _
"FROM [035 - Meter Point HH Data];"
DoCmd.RunSQL strSQL
End Sub
It keeps saying "Run-time error '3292': Syntax error in field definition.

I am opening an excel file from access and changing the formatting from "dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm" to number with 15 decimal places.Then I am linking the file to the database and subsequently doing a lookup on the date time on the access form against this table.The excel file when formatted from vba in access shows the wrong number
datetime = 03/05/2013 11:26
database number = 41397.4763888889
Excel file number = 41398.4763888889 (which would equal 04/05/13 11:26)
now if I do it manually then I get 41397.4763888889 or if the macro is in excel I still get 41397.4763888889.Also I have tested the code with manually editing the excel file and this works fine.
Code:
Private Sub Command288_Click()
Dim s As String
Dim t As Integer
Dim ws As Worksheet
s = LaunchCD(Me)
MsgBox (s)
[code]....
also this brings up a form and then I select the field required for the lookup and with the button is pressed the rest of the code runs as follows.
Code:
Private Sub LoadData_Click()
Dim w As String
w = Forms![frmList1]![Combo0]
w = "[" & w & "]"
Dim dtA As String
[code]....
