Modules & VBA :: Removing First 6 Lines From XLS File And Save It Without Opening
May 13, 2014
I would need removing the lines from an .xls file(stored in shared folder) and saving the same. I used the below code and not successful in removing and saving the file stored in the shared area..When I execute the code, Cursor hangs at this line
Set objWB = objXL.Workbooks.Open(filename)
Code:
Set objXL = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
Set objWB = objXL.Workbooks.Open(filename)
Set objWS = objWB.Worksheets("Sheet1")
objWS.Rows("1:6").Delete
I'm using a query to concatenate data from a table into a specific HTML format. I would like, however, to find a way to remove lines of HTML when there is no data in a specific field.
Example:
If I were to create a list of available colors of a shirt like so:
I need to find a way to get rid of that last vacant tag. I image there's some kind of code I could write (if x is null, clear line17, or something like that) but I wouldn't even know where to start with that.
I need code for save dialog file ,and select the file from textbox and save it to the selected location.i have only this code and i dont know what else i can do with this because it just opens the save file dialog !
Question: Is it possible, using VBA, to determine the actual Excel file type without opening the file?
I receive data files from other departments. Seems like every time someone changes their download structure, I end up with file types that do not match the download extension (example: xlm file with a xls extension). The files can't even be opened because of this. I think I can fix it if I could figure out how to determine what the file type really is.
I currently have a working model which opens up a word document template, fills the bookmarks with info from access, saves the file as a preset name and then send the document on Outlook.
What I would like to do is save the document as a variable, preferably as something like " Climbing Request for site (and then to lift the site name from Access form field and insert here) "
E.G " Climbing Request - Newcastle Central Station.doc"
i'm using a form with an unbound text box to temporarily hold data that i want to use in several other places (all those functions work great). last step is to save the newly created table with a different name (will be used for a mail merge later so must be a separate table or else we'd have to filter thousands of records during each mail merge) and i want to use the data i've temporarily held in my unbound text box within my form as the name in the save as function.
can i specify a variable as a file name within the save as function? is there a better way?
I want to save NOW() (i.e. Date and time) into an event log file. But I just cannot work out the syntax. My insert statement works fine without the date field in, but fails on a syntax error (3134) when I include it.
I have a table with an attachment field called email, where a .msg file is stored for each record. Looking for code to save this contents of this field in a folder in my drive.
I want to create a Macro saves the report in a specific location, and uses two fields within the report to generate the name of the file. For example, "[Sales Rep Name] + [PayPeriod].pdf" and it should be saved in a predetermined folder.
Trying to make this code work, don't know how to filter as it prints identical all reports.
Private Sub cmdExportPDF_Click() Dim db As DAO.Database Dim rs As DAO.Recordset Dim MyPath As String MyPath = "C:Reports" If Len(Dir(MyPath, vbDirectory)) < 1 Then MkDir (MyPath)
I want to open files from a networklocation from VBA, only normal users don't have access to that location (and should preferably not get it).
I instead of using shell("explorer.exe filepath") to open files using windows standard app for the file, which needs userpermissions to the path the file is located, for the currently logged in user.
I'm trying to use CPAU in combination with Shell, because using CPAU you can pass a user/password that has permission to open a process
The only problem is that the filepaths have spaces in them and that is Always a bit of a tricky thing to tackle.
The last command start explorer, but doesn't open the file (just as the first line I posted, it opens Explorer, but not the file. Must be something with the way I pass the filename?)
I am trying to program a button on my ms access form to open up an excel file.. So far the simplest code ive found online was from URL....
<code>
Private Sub Command57_Click() Dim xlTmp As Excel.Application Set xlTmp = New Excel.Application xlTmp.Workbooks.Open "C:Excel1.xls" xlTmp.Visible = True
[code]...
However the code doesn't work, any way to open a file from within access?
I have a macro in access that will create a folder and create a word doc in the folder with the name of the folder. I would like to add to the same folder an excel file. The excel file is in a folder and needs to be copied every time in a new folder when created. where to add the excel file from the below folder:
C:Excel CopyCombine_PDF.xls
this is the macro:
Code:
Private Sub Command22_Click() 'this will register the letter and create folder, word doc and open all Me.[DateRegistered] = Date Me.[PersonRegister] = Environ("Username") Me.Refresh
When creating an incoming inspection database, I want to set it up so when I am in a form to add data, I want to have a command button where I can pull up the associated CAD drawing based on part number and drawing number. I would like to enter the directory location into a table so I could change it if I need to.
I have the following code, which works the way I want it to when I click the button the first time. However, if I close out the excel and click the button again, it errors at the line "ActiveWorkbook.Worksheets("Ref").UnProtect", with the message "Run-time error '91', Object variable or With block variable not set". I can not figure this out, why in the world does it work the first time, but not the second???
Private Sub cmdReport_Click() Dim path As String Dim XL As Object Dim oBook As Excel.Workbook Dim pic As Excel.Shape Set XL = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
Using Access 2007, can I return a value for CurrentProject.FileFormat WITHOUT opening the database?
I'm looking for a way to determine the file version of a given Access database without actually "opening" the database in Access (I don't want it to ever be visible at all or in any way).
So to open a database in Access 2007 "without opening it," I'm using:
Code: Dim db As DAO.Database Set db = DBEngine.Workspaces(0).OpenDatabase("C:Path-ToFile.accdb")
From here, there are at least two different "version" indicators that can be used, as in this example:
Now, if you run this code on an Access 2002/2003 .MDB file, you will get:
Code: 4.0 09.50
If you run this code on an Access 2007 .ACCDB file, you get:
Code: 12.0 09.50
Note two important factors:The db.Properties("Version") seems to be returning the JET version from what I can see in research. This is NOT what I'm after.
The db.Properties("AccessVersion") returns THE SAME VALUE for an '07 ACCDB as it does for an '02-'03 MDB, since Microsoft never updated it, apparently.
Now.... the one way that I have found that ACCURATELY describes the version of a given access database file is to use:
Code: Debug.Print CurrentProject.FileFormat
...as this will always return, for example, 2.0 for an Access 2.0 .MDB file; 10 for an Access 2002/03 .MDB file; and 12 for and Access 2007 .ACCDB file (and there are others; these are AcFileFormat bitmask constants as described in Access support).
BUT, this CurrentProject object doesn't seem to be available (so far as I can see) when using the "open without opening" method described above.
SO, is there any way to return the FileFormat value without opening the database visibly? (Merely basing it in the extension isn't right either.... that would be easy but not accurate as several formats use MDB.
I have a csv file, I am able to import it using the vba commande docmd.TransferText action. But the first three lines are made up of headers. I do not want to import these.
xxxxx, xxxxx, Field1, Field2, Fileld3,
Is there a way that I skip out the first 3 lines of the text file? ie only import from row 4 onwards?
Please Help
My current transfer method also creates a table of errors for the first three lines (as they do not match the data type spoecified by the target table). It also creates a whole lot of null fields in the first three rows of the table. I am running a loop for a whole lot of csv files so you can imagine I'm generating a lot of error import table. If I could import only rows 4 onwards there would be peace in the universe!
So I have this relatively simple problem: I need to create a button that once clicked will open the Save As dialog box and allow the user to save a copy of the current database where he wishes. The filename should contain todays date in DDMM format along with some pre-set text e.g. DDMM PresetText.
i had a database that allowed me from a form to store a file location for a record on a form, so i any time i could access the record, and then open the file, usually a pdf, it wasnt stored as a hyperlink, but as long text
i made the mistake of not copying the files for safe keeping when i got a permanent position..i am now back self employed, i need to recreate the database.
I have a few selected reports on an Access 2007 database that users can run. Is there a way for users to view the report, save as a PDF and automatically save a copy to a shared drive by modules/vba coding as an On Click event procedure?
Managed to export a table to csv file. The problem I now have is I need to add the following Text at the start of the file:-
H,LKJ85485524,DE
and the new last line :- T,whatever the record count is,2
Whether this info is added before or after export is not important.
I have even resorted to using VBA to create an Excel spreadsheet and saving to csv.
Thought this had cracked it however I had surplus commas at head and footer where the original csv file had additional columns (ok manually delete these comas) ,then found that the end of each csv line was missing a final comma that is needed by the recipient of the file.
Using MS 2007, I have a 200 text files exported each day from another application that has two different types of lines (see below). I would like to import each text file in to a database as a single record.
Text file example (text.txt):
R111 WC 8/21/2012 7:00 Doe, John doej 10110110
First Question? Y Second Question? N Third Question? Y ... Seventeenth Question? 10
As you see, I have the first row with multiple fields, but the next rows I have a question and an answer.
I would like to have this data imported as shown in the attachment. Example.zip
Most answers I see are for either multiple lines (same data and sizing). I am not sure how to handle several different lines with that vary in size and delimiters.
I really like Access, I can manage well with it. But I have a problem, and I really wonder why this kind of thing happens in such a professional program using a lot of important data.
Actually the program saves automatically, and I don't like it. For example I try a little something, delete some stuff, replace by something else, and when I quit the program, it doesn't say a thing, and when I come back, the unimportant stuff I changed is still there, and what was replaced is lost. Why? Is there any way to force the program to ask if I want to save the changes?... It's really annoying and I really don't feel secure with my data with this system.
Hello, I am using a useful function to save data of a form using the snapshot utility. I open the form, add or change data and sent the form to other users via e-mail. The snapshot uses a report. The code to do this is the following:
Me.Refresh DoCmd.SendObject acReport, "EmailmyForm", "SnapshotFormat(*.snp)", "", "", "", "Action Required", "Please take action on the attached case.", False, ""
I was now thinking if it is possible to save the shapshot report as a file directly into a selected folder on my S drive (ex. S0000abmyfolder. I will need that the file is automatically named for my with the SSN present on the form.
The overall goal is to hide a whole line of a report using "canshrink" on a series of boxes, some of which are numbers and some that aren't. Some will be blank when the data is loaded into the form and I want these to make the rest of the form adjust.
Code: Private Sub Form_Load() If Me.Label33.Value = "<1" Then Me.Label34.Caption = "Nothing." End If End Sub
