I have an Access 2000 form containing several subforms that needs printing on a regular basis, which works fine when the subform contains data, but sometimes the subforms contain null values. We want to print the subforms without the data to maintain consistency, but when printed they have disappeared and a blank space in the form is printed. The subforms view perfectly in print preview... any help would be appreciated, I have spent a good deal of time researching this issue without any leads
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a continuous pop up form which, at the most, will contain about 10 records. The ten records take up less than half the screen space - but there is a bottom half to the form - even though there is nothing there. How can I get rid of the unused space on my form?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a report which contains 3 subreports. Now I require to do the following:
1. Hide the subreport if there is no data.
2. Remove the Blank space created when the data in subreport is null.
I tried to Set Can Grow and Can Shrink to Yes but still the blank space was not removed.
When I reduced the height of the subreports in the design view the blank space was reduced but it was still there.
What can be done so that the complete report auto adjusts itself if any sub-report is null? Something like the whole page auto fits itself in the available space?
The option of reducing the size of sub report in design view to minimum is there but it makes the report very un-handy for future reference.
I created a database that has a field called "Corrective Actions." I want the user to be able to type in a series of numbers, in the following format: 001, 002, 051, 123. Each number has a certain meaning. For example, 001 means "Upgrade to current revision," 002 means "Replace Unit," and so on. Here is what I would like to happen: The user will type in the numbers in the appropriate format. When the user presses the tab key to go to the next field, I want the numbers to be replaced with the actual meaning. My problem is that I can not figure out how to accomplish this. Can anyone help me?
View 5 Replies View RelatedHi,
i have created a query from just one table, which is basically a list of Financial transactions.
There is a field called supplier code, in this query.
Most of the transactions have a supplier code, but there are a few that don't.
i've got another table that has the supplier name against the supplier code.
i want to bring this table into the query, so that i can show the supplier names against those records in the query that have a supplier code.
when i add this table and link the 2 tables up and put the supplier name into the query. The query excludes the records with no supplier code.
This is presumably, because they contain null values.
I've been reading about the Nz function and i think this is what i need to use.
i've tried this, but it still only brings through the records with a supplier code and not all of them.
How i've done this is to go into the design mode of the query and in the column that would have null values i have click "build"
in here i have the following formula.
Nz([Supplier Name],"No")
Am i doing anything wrong?
OK, I have been searching around on the fourm for over an hour now...I give up. If this is some where else, I am sorry.
I have a database of maintenance data. There are several columns that are usually filled in, some records have some columns blank. They are formated text because they hold letters and numbers (see pic).
I am using a form to query the table...no problem. The form has text boxes the user filter down the data
The problem comes are with the results of the query. Any record that has a blank column is not retuned. I am using "Like" so that the user can enter in partial codes. I know "like" won't return "null" records.... Help!
Things I have tried:
1)IIF(form field is blank, return table field, else use like command to filter) - returns nothing!
2)Like "*" & [Forms]![Fleetwide_data_Request]![MAL_CD] & "*" returns all records without blanks (i.e. missing data)
what else can I do?
Thanks
I have a module that creates records into a contacts table in my access database. When there is no data in the field from outlook, the data is populated as an empty string "" instead of a null value, creating problems with subsequent queries and processes. I'd like to create the data as a null value but the module keeps failing with "object is required" on the statement
rstImport("Customer ID").Value = System.DBNull.Value
It doesn't seem to like System.DBNull.Value or DBNull.Value, and when I assign the vbNullString constant instead, it gets set to "" again and not null.
Hi
is it possible to combine text in a table when some have a space between them eg 123 456 789B would like it on the table as 123456789B without any space. I was not sure what command to use in a query to get this type of and use it for an update query if possible.
Can someone help
Many thanks

In my Dbase, I have a table with a text field. Field name is Country
There are over 5000 records in the table and many of these in the Country field start with a space. I would like to get rid of this space as to ensure that all text starts with a character, rather than a space.
How can I achieve this.
how to find the first space on the left of a text string, for example:I have this string : FUJIFILM XM-1 16-50mm BLACK and I want to find the space between FJUJIFILE and XM and then get all the text from XM onwards.I have this expression that gets me so far but then I'm stuck:
Code:
Model: Left([strDescription],InStr(1,[strDescription]," ")-1)
This expresssion gets me FUJIFILM, which isn't want I want.
I sometimes get a last name with two names not connected by a dash (i.e. Smith-Jones), instead it is entered as "Smith Jones". When I get it from Excel into Access is there a way to replace the space with an underscore in Access? I know I can do it in Excel, but I need that Excel file the way it is for other purposes.

I have a field into which I wish to place a person's name and I want to ensure that the field has a space in it but is not a blank field,
so
all blank - illegal
"Bob" - Illegal
"Bob Smith" - legal
the edit at the top is my attempt to code it but it isn't working.
Code:
strSQL = ("INSERT INTO " & strTable & " Select c.OrderNumber, c.Item, c.RepId, p.ProductNbr, p.Name, [tbl_LBP_Sales Location Num].[Rep Region Code] FROM CalculateTotal c, dbo_PartNew p, [tbl_LBP_Sales Location Num] WHERE ([Structure] like '*" & u & "*') AND ([ProductNbr] = '" & txtPartNumber & "')")
CurrentDb.Execute strSQL
It keeps giving me this error and I don't know why?...
I tried replacing the brackets around Rep Region Code with quotation marks as well as these things `` but kept getting the same error...
i want that when i press the space key on my keyboard oi will exit from the form. i searched on the interne t but i couldn't find the proper one. I don't know exactly what i have to write in vba.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue with some imports. As you will be able to see from the attached Db file, some fields import into MS Access with a leading space in front.
The problem is, Access doesn't seem to see it. For example, (in Query_1) I try to find the leading space with a Left and a Mid function using: " ", "", and Null... but none of these criteria match.
However if you use Left(string, 1)... the empty space will post. So my question is: How can I programmatically eliminate these leading spaces when I can't state if there is a leading space or not?
Take a look...
How can I adjust my required field so that you cannot simply enter a space bar character to circumvent the requirement?
Here is part of the code:
If IsNull([txtRequiredReason]) Then
MsgBox "The Reason field is required"
DoCmd.GoToControl "txtRequiredReason"
Else
We have a spreadsheet that i upload onto a table, i use on of the fields to build a file path but if there is a special character it causes problems,i need to replace the below with spaces if they are in my field called path
< (less than)
> (greater than)
: (colon)
" (double quote)
/ (forward slash)
(backslash)
| (vertical bar or pipe)
? (question mark)
* (asterisk)
. (full stop)
, (commer)
how i can do this in some sort of update query.
I've got a piece of VBA scripting which runs as an event linked to a button on my MS Access form.
I maintain a database of members of staff at my organisation. It's pretty outdated...
I'm basically wanting to pull in their updated data (extracted from on our payroll system) from a spreadsheet, into a form, when clicking a button on a particular person's record.
This is what I have so far.
Code:
start = Forms!frm_main2!txt_start_row.Value - 1
conv = DDEInitiate("EXCEL", "Staff List.xlsx")
cell_employee_number = "R" & start & "C1"
cell_surname = "R" & start & "C2"
[Code] ....
The function "CStr(DDERequest())" converts the cell number into the readable data, however I seem to have whitespace below the value.
What would I need to do to strip out this whitespace? Would I use strtrim? If so, I am unsure of the syntax... how would I incorporate strtrim into the above?
I found this code on a website that uses a form to search all tables in my database. Problem is that when I click "search" I get an invalid argument error. I am guessing that there is a problem with my SQL string. Missing space? Missing quotation marks? etc etc.... Anyway, here is the code:
Dim tdf As DAO.TableDef
Dim fld As DAO.Field
Dim rs As DAO.Recordset
Dim strSearch As String
Dim strTableName As String
[Code] ....
I can alway make a query like the following one to table and return the records:
SELECT * FROM people WHERE PhoneNo<>"";
However, it returns nothing while it should return a lot of records if I make a query like this:
SELECT * FROM people WHERE PhoneNo="";
The PhoneNo file is of text type. As I know, this field is added after the MS database has been put into use for some time.
Can anyone please explain this to me?
Thanks,
I have a report that is based on a query I have made. It currently shows the values as kept in the table. It is for a MAR sheet. Here is how it looks...
Breakfast 0
Lunch 0
Teatime 2
Bedtime 1
I want it to show blank for each 0 that is shown. I have tried an Iif statement to do this but it doesn't seem to work.
I am trying to display zeros in a report and at present I'm getting blank in text box where the value is zero. How do I display zero?
