Modules & VBA :: Search And Pull Data From Db Stored In A Shared Path
Dec 30, 2014
I have two different database files. One is 2010 ".accdb" format where I have created a form and the inputs to the form is getting saved as records to an access.mdb file in a shared path. Now if the users want to edit the existing record I should allow them to search their previously submitted record with a unique ID number.
I know it is possible when we have both the form and table in the same db. But I want to know whether it is possible to search with a unique ID and pull the data from different db in a shared path using a command button?

v sorry for the basic question, but ive been banging away at access and i cant my head around this..
i need to run a simple query. the query/ search will ask users to enter in the number of a document. i want, when this code is entered, for 2 controls on the form be updated with codes that are stored in a table based on the code they searched for originally.
heres my table structure...
Table A
Doc ID (PK)
Doc No (manually input and is the search item that users enter)
Table B
Unique ID (PK)
Doc No (FK)
Info (to populate field 1)
Info (to populate field 2)
how do i perform this in the query section? do i need to manually code the SQL required, or is this query basic enough that i can just select the fields required in the design view of the query?
thanks guys

I have a database that pulls images from a shared folder on our network with links. Is it possible to create a button to email the current record on a form and attach the file it references in the link?
The attachment is a pdf signature. I didn't want to include the files in the database for space issues.
I am using Access 2007. We out outlook as our email client.

I'm trying to search a for string within a subform to find information stored on the mainform to which the particular subform belongs.
The problem is that the subform is generated from a query which uses a number from the main form to generate.
So the subform record is only generated when the correct mainform record associated with it is loaded.
Now to solve my problem I've made a new query that brings up ALL the results that could be generated by the main form and from that I can search to find my search term I'm after and read off the ID number to tie it back to the mainform.
But all of this is done manually, I want a way to do all this using VBA in a way that the user can't edit any records as they are doing it.

I have several text boxes which I can populate using the DLookup.I have images I want to display for individual records.I use a search (textbox) to input client name and this populates all other textboxes. I am trying to get the relevant image to display also using this search box. I have also disabled record selectors just tidy up the form. I have tried coding the image control on the AfterUpdate event of the search box. Full path to images are stored as JPG in my ClientTable not as OLE.

I have used Transfer text cmd to export query to text in MS access. This works fine. path= "D:/test/"DoCmd.TransferText acExportFixed,"Query1",path,False But i need to change the path dyanmically as my wish when i run this query. Like i may save my txt in desktop or C: or D:. I dont want to hard code path as above.
Is there any way to achieve this? If i get the dyanmic location stored in path variable i can achieve it. But i dont know how to achieve this.
Actually i was confused
Docmd.OutputTo acOutputQuery,query1
Above query prompts me for selecting location. But transferText doesn't? why?
As this application is stored on server. If i give a static path, its exporting in Server D:/test/ But i need this to be stored in my local. This can be done only if it prompts box for user to select the location.

What I want the form to do is filter on a column where I have combined 3 columns of actives together. So the form will filter if one of those values is any of those three columns. So I have a macro setup right now trying to filter for anything "Like" what has been selected in the combo box. Here is what I have in the where condition of the filter macro:
Code:
((([Active1] & " " & [Active2] & " " & [Active3]) Like "*" & "[me.cboactives]" & "*"))="'" & [Screen].[ActiveControl] & "'"
This is in Access 2013

I have a table that has four columns. Column 1 had people's names, column 2 has their email, 3 has a category, and 4 has their office.
I have a form with radio buttons, When you check a radio button and press OK it will display the e-mails for the people selected. Problem comes when it's by category, since categories are not unique to one person. I want to click the category radio button and have it display every person under that category, concatenated with a comma.
Problem is I can't make a listbox because it will show the same categories several times instead of just once, so I want the radio button with the category name on its label, and then in the code I need to tell Access to go to the table and search for the e-mails from a specified criteria, the category.
How do I do this?

I am trying to automate the function that imports Infopath (.xml) data into access tables. I can have a button run the MenuCommand, but then the users have to go through all of the prompts and I just don't trust them enough to do it properly.
All I want is the user to click a button, then it lets them browse for the desired file and then imports it.

Right now I have a subform with a combobox that pulls it's data from a table. I want the user to either select an existing item or type in a new item and have a macro create the new table row. What I have right now works in the sense that it prompts the user if they want to creat a new item and the new item is created (and I can see it in the combobox list), but I'm still getting an error saying that the item does not exist in the table forcing the user to manually select the newly created list item they just typed in.
Code:
Private Sub MaterialCostCode_NotInList(NewData As String, Response As Integer)
Dim rst As DAO.Recordset
'Update value list with user input.
On Error GoTo ErrHandler
Dim bytUpdate As Byte
[Code] ....
It appears that the new item doesn't always show up automatically and requires the form to be refreshed, so now I need to figure out how to get it to consistently appear right away without a refresh.

I have a module that is in Excel that is connecting to a back end database. I am trying to pull data from a table that meets a number of conditions. With the following statement, it is not returning any records, even though I know there are records that meet all of the conditions. I suspect the problem is with the last condition. In that condition I am trying to say that pull in records where it has been at least 14 days since the last review.
Code:
strSQL = "SELECT tblsojrol_oc.* FROM tblsojrol_oc WHERE tblsojrol_oc.[Status] = 'Pending' AND tblsojrol_oc.[1st Review Date] IS NOT NULL AND " _
& "tblsojrol_oc.[3rd Review Date] IS NULL AND (DateADD(Day,14,tblsojrol_oc.[2nd Review Date])) >= #" & dt & "#;"
objRs.Open strSQL, objConn, adLockReadOnly

There are 2 mainforms and both of them share a subform. This subform is an add subform and I want the mainform to be refreshed after the data entry.Prior to the sharing, I had it coded it the way below and it works fine
Code:
Forms!frmMainformnoproc!frmActiveTasks.Requery
How would I recode this requery when it shared between 2 forms. frmMainformnoproc is the name of one of the main forms. The code above was present after an update was completed in the subform. Maybe I should be doing it after I close the subform and refresh the mainform. Based on that line of thinking I tried to add the code in the Activate event / Got Focus event of the mainform but the form did not get refreshed.

Hi folks,
I've a BE/FE database where the BE is on the server and the FE on different PCs. I have got linked tables in my FE and the connection between them and the BE is correct; however, users cannot view data entered by others. They can only view data entered by themselves!!
I'm not sure if the records are getting locked that's why they can't see others inputs.
Any help will be very much appreciated,
B

I am very new to VBA. I found some code that will allow me to add an appointment to my personal calendar with using access VBA and it works great. It also allows me to add an appointment to another calendar created under "My Calendars" folder.
I wanted to know how to change the code in order to add the appointment to the SHARED calendar instead.
The main folder is called "Shared Calendars" which is at the same level as the default "My Calendars" folder. Under the "Shared Calendars" folder the calendar is called "Tester".
Here is the code im using at the moment: I believe I have have to change the line of code that is in red but I don't know how.
Private Sub cmdAddAppt_Click()
On Error GoTo cmdAddAppt_Err
Dim outobj As Outlook.Application
Dim outappt As Outlook.AppointmentItem
Dim olNS As Outlook.NameSpace
[Code] ....

I have a form displaying records. I would like the user to be able to select a button, browse for a file on a shared drive and link it to that record.
I have been exploring hyperlinking, which works for the most part, although I need it to display the share name rather than the drive assignment for that user. Such as drive1folder rather than C:folder.
Hyperlinking also unfortunatly requires the user to right click on a field select edit hyperlink then browse.

I'm having an issue getting a return value from a stored procedure that I'm calling from VBA. This is what I have at the moment:
Code:
Dim strDate As String
Dim strWOStatus As String
Dim CurrentConnection As ADODB.Connection
Dim adoCMD As ADODB.Command
Dim adoRS As ADODB.Recordset
Dim ParamReturn As ADODB.Parameter
[Code] .....
The problem I am having is this error:
Error: 424
Description: Object Required
The line of code it errors on is:
Code:
Set .Parameters("@PartsUSedMTD").Value = ParamReturn
And the value of ParamReturn is always Null after it hits the line before it.
So it seems like it's not really creating the parameter variable SQL Server needs to run

How would I update all SQL stored within all forms to change its syntax?I am returning all the row-sources for all the comboboxes on all forms in an Access db. Most work fine but some have syntax errors, for example double quotes instead of single. Is there any way of finding these stored SQL statements and updating them on mass, as I am doing it manually at the moment!

I defined a public variable and then for being able to filter a query results, assigned it to a public function. The problem is that function doesn't get the variable's value.

I have a database with numerous tables. I have set up relationships between all tables (they are all pretty one-to-many relationships). I then created forms in which to enter and view data. Data entry is fine; however, when I go into my tables, I realize that it is not storing the ID# for related tables in the main table.
For example - I have a table called "ContractTypes" with a field for ID#. That table is linked to the main table called "Contracts. In the form, I have the ContractType as a lookup field, I select the one I want for this entry, but it is not storing that ContractTypeID into the Contracts table. Also, when I go back into the form to enter a new record, the data on the subforms is from the previous record and not the record I'm currently working on. In other words, it does not appear to be linking the ID#s from the different tables.

see below the code . The select statement searches the Printpoolno value from the top to bottom in table tblmaster. As in my table tblmaster there are thousands of records and it takes long to search for that Printpoolno from the table . Is there anyway we can write a query that will search the table from bottom to top as the Printpoolno will always be in the bottom records and not in the top records.
Code:
Dim cn As ADODB.Connection
Dim rs As ADODB.Recordset
Dim r As Long
[Code].....

Debug.Print (IdValueToProcess)
Set qdf = CurrentDb.CreateQueryDef("")
[Code] ....
And my stored procedure is
Code:
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[spItemDesc]
@ItemNo varchar(200) ,
AS
BEGIN
set nocount on ;
select ProductDesc1,ProductDesc2 from ProductDatabase.dbo.tblProductInfo where ProductNumber = @ItemNo
END
The error comes on debug.print(rst!ProductDesc1)
And it says "Item not found in the collection"

Hello all :)
I've read some really funny stuff while searching for an answer to this. You're a bunch of really witty types :)
So I'm sure someone can help me - why would this entered data not make it into the table?
I have a form that has a subform. After the subform I have a button to continue. If this is clicked I change the visible property for another field to true. This field appears to work fine, but the data doesn't make it to the underlying table, in fact it sometimes seems to be included in the next record.
Any ideas?
Thanks
A.
