Modules & VBA :: Search And Validate For Login Form
Nov 27, 2014
I have a table called 'Klanten' which contains the rows 'password' and 'login' (and several rows not needed for this form)
So I'm trying to make a login form which first checks if something is entered (this part of the code seems to work).
Private Sub Knop13_Click()
'Check to see if data is entered into Username
If IsNull(Me.Username) Or Me.Username = "" Then
MsgBox "gelieve een login in te voeren.", vbOKOnly, "Required Data"
Me.Username.SetFocus
[Code] ....
But from then on i seem to have some issues.. The part of the code underneath seems to only work for the first 'login' and 'paswoord' in my table called "Klanten".
-Username is the name for the field where they enter their 'login'.
-Password is the name for the field where they enter their 'paswoord'
If Username.Value <> DLookup("[login]", "Klanten", "[Username]='" & Username & "'") Then
MsgBox "Invalid Username. Please try again.", vbOKOnly, "Invalid Entry!"
Exit Sub
End If
If Password.Value <> DLookup("[wachtwoord]", "Klanten", "[Password]='" & Password & "'") Then
MsgBox "Invalid Password. Please try again.", vbOKOnly, "Invalid Entry!"
Exit Sub
End If
Then as last part i would like to goto another form called 'Mainmenu' if both the Login and the Paswoord is correctly entered in the fields Username and Password. Here i have the most issues as this doesn't seem to do anything at the moment
If Password.Value = DLookup("[wachtwoord]", "Klanten", "[Username]='" & Username & "'") And Username.Value <> DLookup("[login]", "Klanten", "[Password]='" & Password & "'") Then DoCmd.OpenForm "Mainmenu"
End Sub

Can I look up and verify data on a "second" form based on a selected record from first (still open) form.
I am trying to allow users to select a User Name from a combo box list and then open "Change Password" form when they select "Change Password" for that selected user name.
My problem is that I can't figure out how to associate and verify the data tied to the user name selected on the previous (Login) form ( I am trying to validate the old password tied to that selected record).
I have the first login form created, and it's working just fine. I also have the change password form created (and it's displaying the user name selected from the first form using:
Code:
Private Sub Form_Load()
With Forms![frmLogin]![cboUserName]
Me.txtPwdChgUserID = .Column(2, .ListIndex)
End With
EndSub
I also have the code written to validate and confirm old password, new password and validate new password (when the save button is clicked). I have yet to update the password with the new password (still trying to figure that out).
Attached zip file has screen shots of the two forms.

I have access 2010, I currently have a database in place and operational. What I am wondering is there a way to have a form come up whenever someone opens access and asks for a password and login name. Also I would like to have a 2 tier system. One for Admins and the other for users with limited access.
Is this even possible to accomplish?

I have been searching for info with users & permission levels. I have ready a lot about ULS (User Level Security) which doesnt seem to be my answer as I do not have admin rights and I believe it is not suitable with Access 2010.
Basically I have an 2010 Access database which is used by my department as a project management tool. It has various tables, forms, queries & reports, I have created a table with user names & passwords and a login form. So when the databases opens the login form is launched & the users selects their user name & enters their password, then the main menu is shown.
Everything works really well, but as the moment there is no difference between all the users. All I want to do is to be able to make one of the Logins read only, ie if the Reviewer is logged in they can see & read every form and run every report but they can not make any edits.

I have recently started a project and become stuck already. I have a login form created that works (code below). What i want to do is allow access to the users of 1-7 in table (level of access) which will determine which page they view after logging in. IE if the have Access in table "Users" as "1" then when they log in the will see a form thats called L1. Same with 2,3,4,5,6 & 7.
Code:
Private Sub LoginButton_Click()
If IsNull(Me.LoginUsernameText) Then
MsgBox "Please Enter Username", vbInformation, "Username Required"
[Code].....

I'm new to Access and I'm using Access 2010.
I would like to be able to click a button on a form in my data base and login to a website using my username and password.
The manual login, requires two clicks after username and password, "Login" and "Click to continue"
I have tried many solutions found on the internet, none work for me. One forum reply was to send me a link to another site and it was for Excel. Is the code the same? Didn't work anyway.
From the website I want to login to, I have copied the code into a Word doc from the "inspect element" to work out the names of the fields I'm trying to put my username and password into. (see attached)
I would also like to be able to use Google Chrome as my web browser if possible?

I have been trying to create a login form that allows the user to change his/her temporary password logging it to the proper table along with timestamp and who done it info.But, after spending the morning trying to find the proper syntax I am flummoxed.
I can get everything to work accept the update of the fields. I can get the command to work (writes to the location) but it does the pop-up what is the parameter thing when it works. I have all the information just need to get it in so the command recognizes it.
DoCmd.SetWarnings False
DoCmd.RunSQL "UPDATE lut_TeamList SET Pass = txt_Password.value WHERE TeamListID = Me.cbo_UserName.Value"
DoCmd.RunSQL "UPDATE lut_TeamList SET UpdatedBy = Me.cbo_UserName.Value WHERE TeamListID = Me.cbo_UserName.Value"
DoCmd.RunSQL "UPDATE lut_TeamList SET UpdatedWhen = Now() WHERE TeamListID = Me.cbo_UserName.Value
DoCmd.SetWarnings True

I am trying to validate that the user selects at least one checkbox out of three on the form in Access 2010. They can select one, two or even all three if they wish, but at least one must be checked. I am using the following code attached to the click event of a command button. It was fine but seems to have stopped working. The control names are generic to illustrate my code. The form is unbound:
if (chk1 + chk2 + chk3) = 0 then
Msgbox "Please select at least one checkbox"
exit sub
end if

Code:
Private Sub cmdLogin_Click() Dim login_validation As Variant login_validation = DLookup("Password", "tblLogin", "Username='" & Nz(txtUsername.Value, "") & "'") If Nz(login_validation, "") <> Nz([txtPassword].Value, "") Then MsgBox "Incorrect Password. I am having an issue using DCount to validate against 3 fields within my database. I have a booking form which contains a Staff member, viewing slot, and Viewing Date which is used to book property viewings.
I want the form to check that the booking doesn't already exist when the process booking button is pressed.
I am using the following statement:
Code:
If DCount("*", "Viewing", "[Staff_ID]=" & Me.[Staff_ID] & " AND [Viewing_Period] = " & Me.Viewing_Period & "' AND Viewing_Date = '" & Me.Viewing_Date) & "'" > 0 Then
MsgBox "Cannot book, booking already exists", vbCritical
End If
I always get the error "Syntax Error (Missing Operator)".

i would like some help on how to validate a user's entry in a form. i have a query that calculates number of hours remaining for a particular customer. when a user submits the number of hours used on the form, i want to check that this value does not exceed the number of hours they have remaining. and display a message box if they dont have enough hours remaining. any suggestions on how best to do this?
the query has a where statement like 'WHERE customer = customer_code' so customer_code is entered by the user. how do i set this so that the value for customer_code is taken from a field on the form?

Hi
I was wondering if anybody could help with this. I have searched through this forum and there doesnt seem to be an answer to this.
I have a form that i would like to validate. At present i have put the data validation on the save button which triggers a script that checks to see if certain boxes have been filled in on the form. I can only get this to work be attaching it to the onclick event on a save button, however, what i really want is to be able to ditch the save button (since access writes to the DB as it goes along) and have this script triggered whenever the user tries to navigate to either a new record/ another existing record or close the form
I tried putting this on the beforer update event, but this does not work, additionally tried doing before update event with the code inside an if me.form.dirty = true statement
this did not work either, has anybody got any suggestions
Please see my code below
Thanks
Marcus

I have a main form that has 3 fields. They are all locked fields, only to show the user the "person" record that they are looking at. They update to subforms on a tab. The first subform is activities (like from a mailing - received return no forwarding address, received updated address, called us, etc)
The other subform is for addresses, original and updated.
There is a date field for the date of any updated addresses.
What I need to do is allow users to enter activities and move around from main record to main record. The important thing is that if they enter an activity on the subform that is for receiving an address change, I need to make sure that they do not leave the main record, without entering in an updated address for that same date, on the address subform.
The activity subform has a date field too, so the validation part seems like it wouldnt be too hard...
IIF ?subform-activities-field-activitytype = "updated address" (3/code to lookup table) AND ?subform-address-field-date = grrr this is where I get confused.
Then msg "Stop, you must add the updated address for the activity of receiving an address change"
cancel = true
end if
make sense?
Any help would be gratefully appreciated!

I am using the following code to filter my form with a search box:
Code:
Me.RecordSource = "qryCompanies"
Me.Filter = "CompanyName Like '*" & Me.SearchTxt & "*' Or webpage Like '*" & Me.SearchTxt & "*' Or PriorName Like '*" & Me.SearchTxt & "*'"
Me.FilterOn = True

It works great with one minor issue: if I try to search for a name containing an apostrophe, I get a syntax error. So, it won't find Children's Hospital for example.

The database is a patient database used for tracking Inpatient data and Handover (or Handoffs for those in the US). It has been merrily ticking over since December and has accrued several thousand records. To get access to this data in new and interesting ways Im trying evolve my rudimentary search function which currently only works for diagnosis, name and consultant (in otherword text fields).
Thus I have an unbound form that has various input boxes on it. I have borrowed some code to power the form and have replaced with own fields:
Code:
Dim criteria As String
Looks for input text and adds it to the final criteria to power the search list at the end based on field in this case txtDiagnosis
If Not IsNull(Me.txtDiagnosis) Then
If criteria <> "" Then criteria criteria & " and "
criteria = criteria & "txtDiagnosis like " & Chr(34) & "*" & Me.txtDiagnosis & "*" & Chr(34)
End If
[code]...
ISSUE 1:
I am struggling with the date search function. It doesn't work. Whether it is prudent to search for either a admitted date or a discharged date?
ISSUE 2:
I have a check box for "complications" that I'd like to be included on in the search.

I have searched for bits of code to copy other people better than I, and had some success but I am failing to complete, so it is now time for me to visit you all. I am trying to open a PDF from a button on a subform. The location of the PDF is specified in a field. I want to open the PDF and search for a Member ID criteria also listed in a field on the Form.This is my code:
Code:
Private Sub Text12_Click()
Dim strPath As String
Dim Searchmem As String
strPath = [Notetxt]
Searchmem = [MemID]
[code]....
Adobe Reader reports "There was an error opening this document. The file cannot be found." but then opens the file (that's something).So it's the "search" bit that is the problem, and I cannot for the life of me get my search parameter to be used.
