Modules & VBA :: Special Paste By Values - Variable Not Found

Mar 19, 2015

I'm trying to paste the values of worksheet 1 by value. Please see the attached two files.

When I run the code, it indicates that variable ( xlpastevalues) is not defined.

It is not a variable....

Code:
Private Sub Command0_Click()
Dim xlApp As Object
Set xlApp = CreateObject("Excel.Application")
xlApp.Visible = True
xlApp.Workbooks.Open "Your locationmetric_DEV.xls", True, False
With xlApp.activeworkbook.worksheets("Metric summary")
.usedrange.copy
.range("A1").pasteSpecial paste:=xlPasteValues
End With
End Sub

Modules & VBA :: Display All Until A Special Character Is Found

Feb 3, 2014

L=Letter , X=number. Examples consisting of three parts (it can be more than three).

1. LLLLXXXXXX_LLLLXXXXXX_LLLLXXXXXX
OR
2. LLLLXXXXXX LLLLXXXXXX LLLLXXXXXX
OR
3. LLLLXXXXXX&LLLLXXXXXX&LLLLXXXXXX
OR
4. LLLL_LLLLXXXXXX&LLLLXXXXXX
OR
5. LL LLLLXXXXXX&LLLLXXXXXX

I would like to develop a function that takes a string that is made up of three parts or more and each part is separated by an underscore "_", space, or "&". There is no character that takes precedence over the other. It will always be only a single character which seperates the parts.

The check will always be done from the left. It should carry out the following actions:

1. Display all characters from the left until it reaches the first seperator "_" underscore OR "space" or "&"
2. Check only Part1 if it is made up of 4 letters and the rest 6 numbers (see 1-3 above). If that is the case only return part 1.
3. If part one only has letters and no numbers (see above 4-5) return all parts. Part one can consist of two letters or more.

I have started the function for step 1 above that searches for the character "_" underscore and display all characters until the first "_" is reached. I would like to include the same for "Space" or "&" in this function.

Once that is done I would like to do step 2 and step 3.

Code:
Function SearchforChar(strTest As String) As String
Dim test2 As String
Dim strUntil As String
strUntil = "_"
test2 = Left(strTest, InStr(1, strTest, strUntil) - 1)

[Code] ....

Answer3:
Full name with all parts should be returned for all above four cases under situation 3.

Forms :: Special Characters In Data Values

Aug 12, 2015

In my database there is one value that requires the use of a /. (This is not as a name of anything...just a value stored in one of the fields.) I have a form which functions beautifully in all other regards, but it produces an error about syntax of the subquery in the expression if I try to use this value as a criteria for a search/filter (screen shot of error message attached).

I've tried using double quotes and square brackets around the / and a in front of it to no avail. I don't have the option of changing the value...it is defined by this multi-billion dollar project. Again, this is just a piece of data in a field in a record which also needs to be a criteria in some searches/filters.

General :: Special Characters In Table Values

May 1, 2013

My database has several tables (and queries) that have fields that contain people's names. Some names, like O'Neil, contain apostrophes. Other fields contain couple names, like Tom & Laura Jones. Both the ' and the & prevent queries, forms, and reports from working correctly.

Cut / Paste Field Values To New Record?

Oct 24, 2011

Access 2007/ I am keeping a list of employees in my building. Each employee has a unique record. Each record has all the equipment (computers, phones, printers, etc.) that each employee has in their possession.

To do this, I downloaded the Contacts Management Template from Access and then manipulated it. I've added tabs to the forms for each type of equipment and created all the fields I need. There is one table (Contacts) and there are multiple forms. The data in the forms are populated by queries. One query populates the equipment that is assigned to employees (Contact Details) and the other populates the spare equipment (Building Equipment Details) In the forms, I would like to create a button to cut data from certain fields and put it in the clipboard. I would then like another button to paste the data from the clipboard into the same fields in another record.

Basically, this button would be used if the employee gets a new computer. The old computer should still be tracked, but in the new form for unused equipment. The employee's record would now have blank workstation fields, freeing it up to cut the data from one of the Building Equipment records and paste into the employee's record.

The field names that are in both forms are:

WK Node Name
WK Make
WK Model
WK Bar Code
WK Service Tag
WK IP Address
WK MAC
WK Operating System
WK Value
WK Owner

Modules & VBA :: Update Contents Of Variable But Not The Variable Itself?

Aug 20, 2014

I look at a lot of files to see when they were last updated. I wanted to write a generic procedure to manage that so ..

Code:
Public fDate As Variant
Public vField As String
Public vFile As String

'GTSdata
vField = "txt_gts_data"

[Code] ....

What I hoped Me.vField would do is update the date field [txt_gts_data] on my form with the date the file was last saved.

i.e. me. txt_gts_data = fDate

What actually happens is the variable vfield gets updated from "txt_gts_data" to 19/08/2014 then later code falls over because the fieldname is lost .

Me.[vField] corrects itself to me.vField (and does not work)
Me!vfield falls over (cannot find the field vField, not surprising J)

How do I say update the contents of the variable, not the variable itself?

Modules & VBA :: Remove Special Characters

Feb 25, 2015

I have a Memo field that is used to be a description of a document. I don't know what the user will put in (could be anything), but it is eventually passed in a string to a query, etc.I discovered during testing that if an apostrophe is entered (Ex: This document explains how to deal with Joe's pleasant disposition.), it breaks my code. I then realized that all reserved words and characters would cause this problem.

I can get around this one just by using Replace(str, "'", "''"). However, I know there are others that will cause problems, and I don't want to end up with a string of replace statements just to fix them.

Modules & VBA :: Remove Special Characters From File Name (when Saving)

Feb 20, 2014

I use the below code as part of a database which creates documents and then saves them using data from the form fields.

Every now and again one of the form fields contains a "special" character such as /,@,& and this prevents the file from saving.

Is there a simple addition to the below code to remove special characters from the file name if there is one present?

It causes all sorts of issues as many people don't realise that there has been a problem until it is too late.

Code:
objWord.ActiveDocument.SaveAs2 FileName:="C:UsersPublic" & Forms![Front Page]![Site 2 Name] _

Modules & VBA :: Asset Database - Special Characters In DLOOKUP Expression

Jul 29, 2013

I have an asset database I am designing to manage our computer inventory and assets.

I am trying to get a DLookup to work with one of my forms that will auto-populate some of the fields depending on what is entered in to the ProductID field. For instance, Make, Model, Asset type...

My problem is that the string that returns contains special characters, specifically "#" and gives me the error message -

Run-time error '3075':
Syntax error in date in query expression 'productID=EN371UA#ABA'.

My expression is definitely working, it just looks like it things it has something to do with date/time which it does not. Unfortunately, most HP equipment contains a # in the Product ID number.

Here is my expression -

Private Sub ProductIDCombo_AfterUpdate()
Make = DLookup("Make", "productlist", "productID=" & [ProductIDCombo])
End Sub

Make is the field I am looking up from the ProductList table. The Product ID is the ID I'm looking up from the ProductList table to find the make. My problem is actually getting it to return the correct value of "HP or Dell or Lenovo". etc.

Modules & VBA :: Paste Query To Excel Template

Jul 20, 2014

I created a form with lots of conditional formatting that did pretty much everything I wanted it to do. The only problem is that it takes about 4 full minutes for the form to open.

As an experiment I am reluctantly now trying to display the results in Excel. I have created a template xls sheet and all I want to do is, on the press of a button, copy the results from my query and paste them in to cell a1 of my spreadsheet.

I found the following code online which I am trying to adapt.

Code:
Private Sub update_tracker_Click()
Dim XL As Excel.Application
Dim wbTarget As Workbook
Dim qdfResults As QueryDef
Dim rsResults As Recordset
'Set up refernce to the query to export

[Code] ....

My limited knowledge however results in a couple of errors.

The first error User defined type not defined error appears at the very first line of my code

Code:
Dim XL As Excel.Application

The next error occurs as I am not sure how to reference the query to export. The query is called 2014 Resources and outputs also to a form called 2014 Resources.

Problem With Variable Values

Oct 9, 2006

Hi i have a problem with a variable value...I have 2 variables and i need them to take values from tables.

Dim dosarid As Integer
Dim cnp As String

DoCmd.RunSQL "INSERT INTO tblDosare (DenumireDosar,CodDosar,DataDosar,Instanta) VALUES ('" & Me.txtDenumireDosar & "','" & Me.txtNrDosar & "','" & Me.txtDataDosar & "','" & Me.cmbInstanta & "')"
dosarid = DLookup("[DosarID]", "tblDosare", "[CodDosar]=" & Me.txtNrDosar & "" & " AND" & "[DataDosar]= #" & Month(Me.txtDataDosar) & "/" & Day(Me.txtDataDosar) & "/" & Year(Me.txtDataDosar) & "#")
Me.txtDenumireDosar = ""
Me.txtNrDosar = ""
Me.txtDataDosar = ""
Me.cmbInstanta = ""
Me.cmbLocalitate = ""
Me.cmbTipVersusDosar = ""
If Me.subfrmTipVersus.SourceObject = "frmPersoanaFizica" Then
DoCmd.RunSQL "INSERT INTO tblPersoaneFizice (Nume,Prenume,CNP,Localitate) VALUES('" & Me!subfrmTipVersus!txtNume & "','" & Me!subfrmTipVersus!txtPrenume & "','" & Me!subfrmTipVersus!txtCNP & "','" & Me!subfrmTipVersus!txtLocalitate & "')"
cnp = DLookup("[CNP]", "[tblPersoaneFizice]", "[CNP]='" & Forms!frmPrincipal!subfrmTipVersus!txtCNP & "'")DoCmd.RunSQL "INSERT INTO RDPF (DosarID,CNP) VALUES (dosarid,cnp)"

where DosarID is autonumber and CNP is text.
The problem is that in execution the varibles do not take those values from the table, instead a message appear "insert parameter value" and i have to give values for those variables, but i want those variables to take values from those 2 tables: tblDosare, tblPersoaneFizice.

If anyone can have a solution....
Thanks

Modules & VBA :: Copy And Paste Current Record Only To Excel

Jul 13, 2014

Its been a few years since I used Access, and despite searches I cant find what I'm looking for. I have a VERY simple form, with only one record on it - "address". I have some print buttons which will print that address to different size labels, and some navigation items, but only one actual record - which is "address" (in the table, this address is a MEMO)

I would like to have a command button that when clicked copies the current record, and opens an existing Excel Spreadsheet and pastes that address into (for example) cell C8

Can it be done easily? Is there a DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet kind of secnario that works with current record only?

Modules & VBA :: Copy / Paste Field From Previous Record

Jun 22, 2013

It is a continuous subform (Names: Form = ClientUpdate / Subform = ClientUpdateSub.

All of the data implicated here is direct and in the subform's query table including the button we want to program.

(This is my example but it wont stay in columns in this "post box" )

IDNo App _ID App_Freq App_Date GetDates Action_Date
22 18 56 21-Jun-13 BUTTON 14-Jun-13
21 19 56 16-Aug-13 BUTTON 9-Aug-13

*

The GetDates Command BUTTON should generate the red data above, like:

Private Sub GetDates_Click()

Go to a new record
Go to the field App_Freq and fill it with:
Copy/paste the data from the field of the same name in the previous record
Go to the field App_Date and fill it with:
data based on this calculation using the PREVIOUS record fields: App_Date + App_Freq (which are days)
Go to the field Action_Date and fill it with:
data based on this calculation: App_Date (of current record now filled out - step above), minus 7 (days).
End Sub

That's it!

All the dates format is set to medium date. An error message should come up in case App_Freq is empty, for example

Also note that the data can be manually changed at any time and should not revert to its last calculation. The button only generate data into a new record.
