Modules & VBA :: Subform In A Tab Control Form

Mar 3, 2015

I have main form (frmProcedures) that has a tab control with 2 pages. One of the pages I have a subform that contains a listbox control controlled by a query. The subform is a search and display form. When I open the subform on it own, it opens up fine. However when I try to open up the mainform, it always prompts me to enter the parameter value. I have to atleast hit "Enter" for the form to open up.Even after hitting the enter key, when I try to navigate to that page, I keep getting the parameter prompt.

Here is the query that populates the listbox control. And the parameter that is prompted is Forms!frmSearchMulti!SrchText that you see in the query below

SELECT Procedures.ProcedureName, Procedures.BusinessLine, Procedures.Manager, Procedures.ApprovalDate, Procedures.NextApprovalDateFROM ProceduresWHERE (((Procedures.ProcedureName) Like "*" & forms!frmSearchMulti! SrchText & "*")) Or (((Procedures.BusinessLine) Like "*" & forms!frmSearchMulti!SrchText & "*")) Or (((Procedures.Manager) Like "*" & forms!frmSearchMulti!SrchText & "*"));

I do have a searchbox that when updated with search string issues the requery to update the values in the listbox.

Modules & VBA :: Recordset Referencing Control Value In Subform

I've been trying : double click a field in a subform and paste the query results into excel. I already have good code to paste in the recordset, but this recordset must reference a control value in a subform.

The query works and shows the proper results manually, but when I run the Sub it throws a "run-time error 3061: Too few parameter. Expected 1."

I can't seem to set the parameters right. Tried EVERYTHING--except the RIGHT thing.

However, this then means that when i try to navigate away to another form i always get prompted whether to save the form or not.

because the form is in a navigation subform i can't use:

Code:
DoCmd.Save acForm, Form_NavigationForm.NavigationSubform.Form.Name

DoCmd.Save acForm, "my_form"

in both cases i get an error : the object my_form isn't open

Modules & VBA :: Reference To Control In Subform From Query

Oct 10, 2013

I have a main form "KZ_SEARCH" and within this I have a subform which is loaded when a button is pressed and is populated with query results (based on text entered in a text box). The subform is called "KZ NOTICES Query subform". That all works fine and the query modifies based on the text entered every time the button is pressed. The next stage is that when the subform is loaded I want the user to be able to select a line from the subform and to jump to that record in another form (which also needs to be opened from that selection). The reference for the record to select in the newly opened form would be the first column of the selected line highlighted in the subform (control name "KZ NUMBER").

Get Subform's Control In The Main Form.

Feb 21, 2005

Lets say I have Form A and Subform A with the parent-child relationship established that works well. Subform A has a Text box control that is getting display when I include the subform in Form A.

Now, I decided I dont want to include subform A in the Form A. Is there a way for me to show the contents of that Text box control in Form A without attaching the subform in the main form (Form A)?

I read somewhere that to refer a control on a subform, I have to use the code - Forms!mainform!subform.form!control. But this would be in VBA. What is the equivalent of this in a Control Source in the main form?

If I have not explained myself correctly, please do let me know.

To summarize, my question is without including the subform, I want to reference the values of the subform in the mainform. (I have some design necessity for this requirement) Is there a way for this?

thanks!

Transfer Control Value From A Form To Subform

Mar 15, 2006

Hello everyone...

I have a form that I want to copy selected field values to another form & subform.
I have no problem copying some field values to frmEndorsement... but I can't figure out how
to copy the other field values to the frmEndorsementSubform. I tried several ways but I'm still
on a dead end...

Here's the actual example...

I want to transfer some selected fields from "frmEncounter" to "frmEndorsement" & "frmEndorsementSubform"

In my frmEncounter, I have these fields...
mdsunit, patientID, lastname, firstname, pcp, & encountID ( EncountID is autonumber-PK)

In my frmEndorsement, I have...
patientID, lastname, firstname

& in my frmEndorsementSubform, I have...
pcp, msdunit, & encountID ( encountID is numeric-long integer )

There is a link master-child field between frmEndorsement & frmEndorsementSubform which is patientID.

and below is my code that I got from Ms. Candace Tripp...
Thanks in advance... Jim

Private Sub cmdcopy_Click()
On Error Resume Next
Dim bOpen As Boolean
Dim ctl As Control
Dim frm2 As Form
Dim ctl2 As Control

' check to see Endorsement Data Entry is open
bOpen = IsOpen("frmEndorsement")
If Not bOpen Then

' open form
DoCmd.OpenForm "frmEndorsement"
End If
Set frm2 = Forms!frmEndorsement
' send data to frmEndorsement
' look at each control on frmlEncounter

For Each ctl In Me.Controls
' only look at combo boxes and text boxes
If TypeOf ctl Is TextBox Or TypeOf ctl Is ComboBox Then

' now look at each control on frmEndorsement
For Each ctl2 In frm2
If TypeOf ctl2 Is TextBox Or TypeOf ctl2 Is ComboBox Then
' if the control names are the same,
' set the value to that control on frmEndorsement
If ctl.name = ctl2.name Then
ctl2.Value = ctl.Value
End If
End If
Next ctl2
End If
Next ctl

Me.PCP = Forms!frmEndorsement!frmEndorsementSubform!PCP
Me.EncountID = Forms!frmEndorsement!frmEndorsementSubform!Encount ID
Me.mdsunit = Forms!frmEndorsement!frmEndorsementSubform!mdsunit

End Sub

Forms :: CBO From Main Form To Reference Control On Subform

Mar 12, 2013

Ok, this is what I have:

I have setup my main form with 2 subforms to mimic a split form; this works fine.

To search for a record, I am using a cbo on the main form which I would like the user to select from. Once selected, then this will populate the first subform.

This is the code I have for the cbo:

Dim intAnswer As Integer
If IsNull(Me!cboCaseNoCFDWit) Then Exit Sub
With Me!sfFocus.Form.RecordsetClone
.FindFirst "Me!sfFocus.Form!CaseNumber = """ & Me!cboCaseNoCFDWit & """"
If Not .NoMatch Then
If Me.Dirty Then Me.Dirty = False

[Code] ....

I get an error at the .findfirst; states that the Microsoft Engine does not recogize Me!sfFocus.Form!CaseNumber

And the reason I am not using a regular split form is because I cannot, get the form to the size that I want. The splitform works great with the code above (a few changes to it of course), but the bottom of the splitform (datasheet) is too long and I cannot shorten it.

Forms :: Filtering A Subform On Tab Control From A Separate Form

Sep 11, 2013

I am trying to filter a subform on a tab control based on an input on a second form.

Mainform: frm Index Page 2
Tab Control on Mainform: tabctrlMain
Subform: Customer Details
Tab Name: tabCustomerDetails

The second form is basically a separate Search Form where users can look for a customer ID and returns the ID back to Customer Details form.So far I have managed to redirect focus to the correct tab on the tab control using the following code:

DoCmd.OpenForm "frm Index Page 2"
With Forms("frm Index Page 2")
!tabctrlMain.Value = !tabCustomerDetails.PageIndex
End With

However, I am stuck with the filtering part. Everything was working fine before I began putting the forms together into one big tab control (I tried using Navigation Pane but there were too many referencing problems so I gave up on that one).

Control Subform Textbox From Master Form Checkbox?

Nov 16, 2014

My bound master form has bound subform in it and both of them has linked fields. In the master form i've placed a checkbox which if unchacked will lock and disable a textbox in the SUBFORM, and if checked will enable and unlock the textbox and fill it with a calculation result, which will then be passed on to the underlying table.

Now, suppose in the master form (named X), i have A (checkbox) and B (textbox with numeric value) and in the subform (named Y), i have C & D (both textboxes with numeric values). Hence if A is checked, I'd like D to return the result of - "B*C". Or else D will remain locked and disabled.

Forms :: Textbox On Main Form Referring To Subform Control

Aug 14, 2014

I have a form with a subform which resides in a tabbed control. In that subform, I have a textbox in the footer that sums values in the detail section of the subform.

I have a textbox on my main form that should display the same data that is in my subform footer textbox, but it is giving me the #name? error.

This is the expression in my subform footer textbox (which returns the correct result):

TxtSubtotalHQPCalc -
=Sum([ActualHQPCalc])

And the expression in my main form textbox (which returns #name?):

txtActualHQPValue -
=([subfrmHQPProject].[Form]![TxtSubtotalHQPCalc])

I have verified that my subform name and textbox names are all accurate. This is very frustrating because I am using this exact same method in a different database with no problems!

General :: VBA Error Referring Control Field In Subform Using Main Form

Feb 22, 2013

I believe I did this before awhile ago but for some reason I keep getting an error.

I have a Mainform (frmMain) that has a Subform (frmSub). On frmSub I have 2 comboxes (strCom1 & strCom2) one is set to invisible (strCom2.Visible = No).

So using the "On Open Event" of frmMain I want make strCom2 visible if strCom1 = "Read Only". Ofcourse I will also need to place the vba on the On After Update event. Below is what I have so far but doesnt work.

I get Run-time Error 2427 "You enetered an experssion that has no value"

Code:

Private Sub Form_Open(Cancel As Integer)
If Me!frmSub.Form!strCom1.Value = "Read Only" Then
Me!frmSub.Form!strCom2.Visible = True
Else
Me!frmSub.Form!strCom2.Visible = False
End If

Problem Updating Main Form Control From Subform In Access 2003 Project (ADP)

Nov 30, 2005

I'm supporting some Access/VBA code which includes the following behavior:

When an update is made in a (linked) child form, the current date/time is written to a textbox on the main form via

Me.Parent!txtMod = Now

Likewise, the BeforeUpdate event of the main form updates the same field (and then does a bunch of form validity checks, possibly followed by a Save).

When we upgraded to Access 2003 from Access 2000, a problem erupted:

When the user returns to the main form (by clicking on any control outside the subform), the following message is issued: "This record has been changed by another user since you started editing it (etc.)..."

At this point the user must choose between "Save Record", "Copy to Clipboard" and "Drop Changes".

Conceptually, I see why this is happening (though I wonder why Access 2000 didn't flag it). The subform is the "other user". When the main form is returned to, it is "Dirty" (unsaved update), so the main form's BeforeUpdate event fires, and attempts to update the field again (Me.txtMod = Now). Since there is a pending change to the field, an error dialog pops up.

As a quick fix, I replaced the code in the subform with a flag ("Hey, I've been updated!"), which the main form checks on the Exit event of the subform control. But that seems a horrible solution. Surely there's a better way?

Notes:

1. It would be preferable to have the timestamp updated right away by the subform, though having it updated when the subform loses focus is better than nothing.

2. Since a subform is a control from the main form's perspective, I'm surprised that a change to that control doesn't render the main form "Dirty". I guess from a database standpoint it makes sense (the form's table isn't getting updated at all; just the subform's). But then, how does the main form know that the subform has been updated?

3. I tried catching the error via Form_Error. I can make the dialog not appear via "Response = acDataErrContinue", but unfortunately it defaults to dropping the changes (old and new), rather than saving the new.

Modules & VBA :: Referring To Tab Control On Sub Form

Jun 9, 2013

I have the following setup:

A main form - named [formMain]
On [formMain] I have a tab control - named [tabMain]
[tabMain] has 3 pages named [pageOne], [pageTwo] and [pageThree].
On [pageThree] I have created a subform named [formSub].
On [formSub] there is a tab control named [tabSub].

Now what I would like is to make [tabSub] (in)visible if the user switches from [pageOne] or [pageTwo] to [pageThree].

Code:
Sub tabMain_Change()

How do I refer to [tabSub] from within this subroutine? I am trying something like:

Code:

Forms![formMain]![pageThree].Form![tabSub].Visible = False

but it is not working. What should be the correct way?

Modules & VBA :: Copy A Control In Form Design?

Oct 24, 2013

I need to duplicate a number of controls on a form. They are all acCommandButton types, but they have different images, sizes etc.

Anyway, my thought process was if I have a "template" acCommandButton then when I create my new controls if I could use this template then the code I have hanging off them (I have a function being called on the onClick event, borders are set to hairline, themes turned off and various other settings) would be copied. Save me trying to set them all individually.

So, my question is, can I "copy" a control in form design through VBA. Once I create the copy of the control I can then change the couple of properties I need to and "hey presto" I have skipped a load of settings that I don't need to set.

At the end of the process when I rename my form I can delete my template control and I have a working form.

Modules & VBA :: Use Value On Form Control As Default Value In Other Tables

May 11, 2015

How I might use a value selected by a user on a database opening menu (which remains open), as a default value for records created programmatically in other tables?

I wonder if I need to write a function to repeat the value - but I cannot see how to use a form value outside of the form's own code. Some of my existing code inserts values into tables using SQL converted into VBA and I do not really want to start fiddling with that - I would rather for now use the default value of the table for the field.

My variable which will change depending upon which set of records a user is working on is a string "FullAccession".

When a user creates records in a table called tblGroups, I need the string "FullAccession" to be the default value in the tblGroups.FullAccession field. A unique integer in the tblGroups is "GroupNo". "GroupNo" and "FullAccession" are joined in a unique index for tblGroups. There is a separate PK autonumber.

Modules & VBA :: Assigning Control (sources) To A Form

Oct 3, 2014

My scenario is that I am using a one time table that is a copy of my real transaction table (called GLAcTranLine) to enter general ledger transactions. Both my form and my sub-form are unbound. The form is called GLFI50 and the sub form is called GLFI50TranSub on disk and inside the main form. That is, both the sub form and its description inside the form (in the label that appears when I build the sub form with the wizard) bear that name.

So in the load for the main form I carry out these job steps.

1. I take a "No Data" copy of the transaction table GLAcTranLine, to get the structure. That works fine. The name I give to it is prefaced with GLFI50 and ends with a random number. That works fine too.

2. I insert a blank record into the new table. That also works fine.

3. Assign the control source to the Sub form and to its individual objects. That just dies in a crumpled heap. Neither the form not the individual columns code works.

The error I get (in both cases) is the Run-time error '2465' Application-defined or object-defined error.

I believe this means that it just cannot work out what idiotic error I have made. The code all passes the compiler test.

Here is the SUB.

Private Sub Form_Load()

'STEP 1. I take a "no data" copy of Create the Work Table and assign it as a control source to the sub form
'================================================= ======================

'(Copies the structure of the source table to a new target one. It isn't a temporary table so I need to
'find a way of assigning a temporary name and then using that name on this prog.
'The True on the end says "Do not copy the data)"

'GLFI50Work is the Global variable that holds the temporary table name.

Modules & VBA :: Using Form Control Value To Determine Query Criteria

Jan 26, 2014

I'm working on a report called Open Orders and when the database loads, it takes you to a Navigation Form. You make some selections mostly from combo boxes, then click run report which runs a query then launches the report.

I want the user to be able to click a check box called "Ready Only". If the checkbox = True, then I would like the field "Ready Pieces" in the query to have the criteria ">0". If the checkbox = false, I want that field to show all values (*).

I have no problem setting the criteria of a query field to equal that of a combo box value (Warehouse Like ([Forms]![Process Form]![Warehouse] & "*") but have problems when the criteria isn't the exact same as the value of the control.

Things I have tried to no avail: Putting a Iif statement in the query criteria: gives an error that criteria is too complex Creating an invisible text box whose value is determined by the checkbox to ">0" or "" then basing the Ready Pieces criteria equal to this....doesn't work Trying to use the DoCmd.RunSQL with my SQL code that changes via VBA when the checkbox is changed...Get an error and the SQL doesn't run
