Modules & VBA :: Update All Rows Within Column Using Value Entered On Form?
Nov 7, 2013
I'm trying to update all the rows in a column (column A, PO Number) within a table (iSupplierTable). The value (txtPONbr) is entered by the user on a form (NewPO).
Code:
Private Sub cmdSubmit_Click()
On Error GoTo cmdSubmit_Click_Error
Dim db As Database
Dim rst As DAO.Recordset
Dim strSQL As String
strSQL = "iSupplierTable"
[code]....

I am still quite new to Access and have spend the last two days looking for a solution to an issue but don't seem to find anything that fits. The problem is that I want the three year average of [NIbyA] inserted in [AvgNIbyA]. The years are stored in [FocalYear] (as Date/Time formate) and [TextYear] (as text formate) and [ID] indicates which entity the record belongs to (see below).
UniqueID
ID
TextYear
FocalYear
NIbyA
AvgNIbyA
1020180-19981231
1020180
19981231
[Code]...
Example.accdb
I have been playing around with update queries but can not seem to get the syntax right. The query needs to add NIbyA for year 1998, 1999 and 2000, divide it by 3 (or use Avg() function or something of that sort) and insert the result into the row where [FocalYear] = 13/12/2000. To add to the confusion, it should obviously only add those records that belong to the same ID. Years are from 1998 to 2010 and ID's are random (this obviously means that the rows where [FocalYear] = 13/12/1998 and [FocalYear] = 13/12/1999 will not have an entry).

Any way to have a form with Dates as column headers to update a table where the dates are stored in rows???
The table set up is like this:
tblOpHdr
DiaryID (PK) - OpDate (Date)
tblOpDetail
DiaryID (FK) - CostCode - MachineNumber - MachineHours - etc
I'm just wondering if there's any way I can do this with a datasheet or a crosstab type setup?
It's Access 2010.

I'm a maintenance coordinator for a small trucking company and I'm putting together an access database to track and manage all of our fleet maintenance. I'm rank amateur when it comes to access but I've been doing ok with it and so far I've been able to get it to do almost everything I set out to have it do.
But I'm having a hard time figuring out how to make this trick work. Here's what I want it to do. We have two groups of trailers, working trailers and storage unit trailers. We do preventative maintenance every six months on road trailers and once a year on storage units. I have a field in tblEquipmentMaster which shows the last PM date. I have a query and an report which use that LastPMDate field as well as the value of a StorageUnit checkbox to calculate what units are due/overdue for PM.
In addition to all this, I've got tables and forms set up to track maintenance records. I'm tracking the maintenance invoices as well as the details of each line item on the invoices (changed water pump, replaced tail light, PM service etc). So what I'd like to have happen is for the LastPMDate field in tblEquipmentMaster to update to the value in InvoiceDate in tblMaintenance anytime the field Description in tblMaintenanceDetails contains the text 'PM' for the unit number in question. Alternatively tblMaintenanceDetails also has a lookup field which contains maintenance codes. So the field VMRSCode could also be used as the trigger anytime the value 'PM' is selected.

I have a table called "Mov" and its columns are:
Code:
Number | Link | Name | Status
1899 | htto://example.com/code1 | code1 | Done
2 | htto://example.com/code23455 | code23455 | Done
3 | htto://example.com/code2343 | code2343 | Done
13500 | htto://example.com/code234cv | code234cv | Deleted
220 | htto://example.com/code234cv | code234cv | Null
400 | htto://example.com/code234cv | code234cv | Null
So I want a way to update Status of my rows according to numbers list. For example I want to update Status column for multiple numbers to become Done .
Simply I want to update "Null status" to become "Done" according to its numbers according to this list
Code:
1234
53
546
767
2135
6657
43
34
Something like this
I tried "update query" but I don't know how to use criteria to solve this problem. In Excel I did that by "conditional formatting duplicates" -with my number list which I wanted to update - Then "sort by highlighted color" then "fill copy" the status with the value...

I have a form where we fill in information for supply of PPE to employees.
Each item must be signed for on a printed report.
I am encountering problems trying to create enough rows for my report detail for each signature of the number of items supplied.
For example, on the form I will select the "equipment" - 4 hats supplied and 3 boots. On the report I want the equipment set as the group and the detail to be a number or rows which equals the number of selected items. therefore under the Hats group heading I want 4 blank rows which are made up of 3 text boxes - Print Name, Signature & Date and another group heading for boots but with 3 lines.
The Query gives the results below: (Item name is linked to a PPE table containing Item ID, Item Name, Cost etc..)
IssueIDDateProvidedItem_Name AmountIssued
0001 01/11/2013 Gloves (Orange) 10
0001 01/11/2013 Hard Hats (Black) 2
0002 02/11/2013 Hi Viz (Large) 5
The report I aim to generate from this should look as attached ...
The query/report is set up as a parameter report so I will enter the issueID such as 0001 and only those items will appear on the report to print and sign.

I'm attempting to build an import module so that my users can take data from different walks of life and import it into my tables. I'm doing this by setting up a module and allowing the user to specify which column data will come from when importing data. So lets say I have a field that is CustomerID in my table and user one pulls data from 1 place and in his excel or csv file, customerid is in field 1. Another user does the same thing and its in field 2.
How can i make some form of a loop that when I'm attempting to update data, i pull the correct column?
strSQL = "SELECT * FROM tblImportTable"
Set rst = db.OpenRecordset(strSQL, dbOpenDynaset, dbSeeChanges)
With rst
Do While .EOF = False
If IsNull(DLookup("DefaultValue", "dbo_tblImportTemplateDetails", "Template_ID=" & Forms!frmImport!TemplateName & " AND FieldName='CustomerID'")) Then
[code]....

I have a table with the following columns: Task, Visa type, time it takes to perform the task. There are several taks that are performed for all visa types. I want to create a form to enter data to the table in which for the field visa type I have a list box that can allow multiple values, however, I do not to create a single line with the task and on visa type all the types of visas selected. I want to create a line for each type of visa with the information introduced.
I don't know if this is possible, the reason for which I want for the form to create several rows depending on the visas types is because then I have a query that sums all the types of visas. Can this be possible? I don't want the people to introduce manually directly to the table the data and also that for the same taks they have to enter manually 50 rows with values. I want it to be more simple and easier.

I want to check if data entered in a form field is existed
The form is bounded to a table
I used this code
If DLookup("Telegram_Number", "tbl_Violation_Of_Building", "Telegram_Number Like " & Forms!frm_Add_Violation_Building!Telegram_Number) Then
MsgBox ("number existed")
Me.Telegram_Number = ""
Else
End If
everything is ok but if the data is existed the database show the message and clear the field but i'm getting a Run-time error
'-2147352567(80020009)': the macro or function set to the beforeupdate or validationRule property for this field is preventing [ISF] from saving the data in the field
I guess the problem because the form is bounded to a table so he will save automatically
My solution is to unbound the fields and save the data via vba but is there any solution with a bounded form???

I was just assigned this database task couple weeeks ago, I know VERY LITTLE. I have all my tables and forms set up. My company builds custom cars....very few per year. I have dozens of tables for all the different componetns of the car....and each table has the same column "Unit" in it. I have a form that when a new car is began being built, the the first thing it does is ask the user to type in the Unit for the new car, but that only puts it in the one table i referenced when creating this form. I want/need this Unit information to be placed in every single table (20+) that has the column "Unit" in it. How can i do this, any information is greatly helped.....im getting so frusturated, i feel like i've learned a lot in the past 2 weeks since starting but i stil really know hardly anything.

(Due to restrictions on system).
I will need to pull reports off this table to send via email to Lotus Notes 8.5
Is there a way I can filter the report depending on the data entered in a column?
aka If a cell in a column has "Cheese" I can run a report showing just the "Cheese" results?

i have a table that has meter readings for copiers on it and dates.
i need to add another column to show the differences in the meter field between itself and the row entered before it (the month before) to find out how many copies were made. i can do this in excel very easily, but cant figure out how i would do it in access
sample:
Date Meter Diff.
06/01/2006 0 0
07/01/2006 1000 1000
08/01/2006 1500 500
we will be entering the date and the meters in every month, but i need to have it calculate the difference between months so i can then calculate overage, if any.

I am trying to devise a way to display query results in a row instead of a column. The table on which the query is built has this structure:
Column1: Index (pkf)
Column2: Group (int)
Column3: Position (int)
Column3: ItemCode (txt)
When I do a select query, the data comes back like this:
Group Position ItemCode
11A
12B
13C
14D
15E
16F
Etc.
I want to arrange the data this way:
1ABCDE (Etc)
I keep thinking that a cross-tab query is the answer, but all I seem to be able to do is to get counts of Position 1, 2, 3 Etc.
I’m baffled. Does anyone have a suggestion?
Thanks,
Rick

I have an Excel sheet with data organized like:
1 A
1 B
2 A
2 B
2 C
I want to reduce the first column to unique records, and have the second column listed on the same row. (I'm assuming I'll need Access to do it.) Is there a way to produce a table like this?
1 A B
2 A B C
The final result would need to be something I could put back into Excel.

I have parent-child one to many data in one pair of relationships, and now I've been asked to see be able to find out what matches a defined regimen; each is also defined in a parent-child relationship.
Best is to show sample data. I'm going to show them as two tables, but the "Components" are actually in a parent-child relationship, e.g.,
PersonList -= Meds
Regimen -= Meds as well
Note that PersonList and Regimen do not really have any relation; we just want to see if things are being done one of the ways they are "supposed" to be done, without a slow manual check. It's worked as set up for reports, and I really don't want to change everything to a big long list of fields, one field per med for a lot of reasons (not least of which is that is denormalizing)
Quy 1 Result:
PersList T1Component
Andrew Med 1
Andrew Med 2
Brett Med 1
Brett Med 3
Brett Med 4
Charles Med 2
Duane Med 1
Duane Med 4
Quy 2 Result
Regimen T2Component
Goody1 Med 1
Goody1 Med 3
Goody1 Med 4
Goody2 Med 1
Goody2 Med 2
I'd like to be able to do two queries - one that are "OK" one that are not. Don't need to replicate the med list, just the regimen if matching..
"Good" would return
Person Regimen
Andrew Goody2 (he has med 1, 3, and 4)
Brett Goody1 (he has med 1 and 2)
"Bad" would return
Person
Charles
Duane
What they "almost match" does not matter; it tells people which ones we need to check into a bit more.

What I really want is to calculate the time (# day) it takes to reach a target goal INR (2-3) I have tried DateDiff between DOA (date of admission) and Start date but this obvious won’t work because some patient won’t start on warfarin until later.
Another possibility is to calculate date difference between two rows in same column but I don’t know how For example Pt 1 = It take 7 days to reach an INR of 2, Patient #2 = it takes 5 days to reach an INR 2.2 and Patient #3 takes 6 days to reach an INR of 2.1. Average = 6 days.
