Modules & VBA :: Using Append Query After Entering New Record

Apr 5, 2015

The program I am working with has an option to add a new record to another table using a button. Not all the records, even new ones, need to be appended.

The append query works fine in all situations but one--when a new record is entered and saved, the append query button returns 0 records to be appended. However, if you go to a different record and come back to the one just added in the main table, the append query works fine. The query uses a TempVar to select only the record being seen at the time. The TempVar is declared prior to attempting to append the record to the other table.

Is there a way to make a just entered record act like its been around for a bit (well at least to save it by changing record to another and back)?

Modules & VBA :: Loop - Append Query To Work Referring To Quantity Value For One Record

Jul 29, 2015

I have a part table summary with various quantities 1-1000 and want to create a new table where part number repeats with quantity of 1 corresponding back to the sum. If part 123456=20 then this would repeat 20 x and each record Qty=1

Start with summary
--================
Part Qty
111000 2
222000 3

End result all Qty=1
--================
Part Qty
111000 1
111000 1
222000 1
222000 1
222000 1
--================

I stared with a loop and was able to get an append query to work referring to the quantity value (3) for one record from tbl_temp to tbl_main, but not really sure how to advance through many records.

For n = 1 To [Forms]![MainScreen]![Text7]
DoCmd.OpenQuery "qry_Update_Qty"
'DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec
Next n

maybe a do while or some other approach?

Modules & VBA :: Entering Data Into A Table Using Record Field

Jan 19, 2015

I am creating a log in form, it checks the user name which is unique. if the user has entered a password, it shows only one password text box, they enter the password, if it is correct they enter the database, otherwise they return to the text box.

But if they have not entered a password before the form opens with two text boxes, one for the password and one to confirm the password is typed correct, if the are different a message box shows telling them that they are different, now is where i having problems, when they have typed the two passwords and they are correct i want them to save this password in the same record "Password" as the selected "username" record, I can find the "username" record by doing a Dlookup, easy, but i am stuck how to then save the password from the text box where the selected username record is.

My table "staff" has fields of "IDStaff", "FirstName", "Surname", "Password", "Username".

Append Query - Single Record

May 18, 2005

Hi,
I am trying to run an append query, but instead of appending the whole table, I would like to only append a single record.

I have an append query, and it works like a charm. I can also get it to work with prompting the user for a parameter (in my case LeaseId which is a primary key). When the user is prompted and enters the LeaseId it only appends the single matching record. Works like a charm.

However, I don't want to prompt the user for the paramater. I want the user to generate the LeaseId based on the selections in two combo boxes.

So far the I do get the right LeaseId, but I have no idea how to actually pass the LeaseId to the query. I've tried the following, but I know it's completely wrong.

stDocName = "approveLease"
DoCmd.OpenQuery stDocName, acNormal, acEdit, "[LeaseId]=" & Me.buildingCombo.Column(0)

Any ideas on how to actually accomplish this?

Append Query To Current Record Only

Dec 21, 2007

This is my first time posting to a forum so don't hesitate to correct me if I am doing something wrong.

I am trying to create autofill templates based on the worktype.

How do I append data to the current record only!

I have a table that contains all of the job information including a record autonumber.

I have made a form using this table and it includes a subform for charge items from a separate table.

My users are complaining about having to key in every line item and want the form to autofill the subform for charge items based on the worktype field.

I have written an append query which is correctly extracting the worktype field and updating the charge items fields but it is doing so for every record with the same work type. I just want it to update the current record I am looking at.

Append Query Key Violation (as Used In Create Similar Record)

Oct 18, 2007

I have a database of Assessments, each record having multiple subforms.

I am working on a button, which creates a "similar" (same) assessment, copying over all the subform records/selections.

So, after I actually insert a new assessment, pasting all the values from the original Assessment:

DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdSelectRecord
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdSaveRecord
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdCopy
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdPasteAppend

I need to copy over subform contents, for which I use an Append Query (actually, I use its SQL in VBA code to pass it the right parameters).

Now, naturally, I ran into Key Violations, because taking 50 sub-records from the original they would have their own AutoNumber Keys (ID's) and I can't append them into the same table.

My question: how do I copy over the same records (appending FROM and TO the same table) but cause the table to insert AutoNumbers for the records being appended?

Thanks!

Add Single Record To A Table Using Append Query With One To Many Relationship

Nov 21, 2014

I have tables Account (PK acctnum) and Orders (linked via acctnum to Account). There are multiple orders per account that need to be billed individually. When creating an invoice I need to add the Account to the Invoice table and the Orders to the InvoiceDetail table. I use 2 queries to accomplish this. The first one though adds multiple records to the invoice table (because of the one to many relationship). I need to keep that so I don't bill anyone with no orders.

INSERT INTO Invoices ( InvoiceDate, AcctNum )
SELECT DISTINCT Date() AS InvoiceDate, Account.AcctNum
FROM Account INNER JOIN [Order] ON Account.AcctNum = Order.AcctNum
WHERE (((Order.OrderNum)=[Forms]![Account]![Order].[Form]![OrderNum]) AND ((Account.BillingCycle)="on discharge") AND ((Order.EndDate) Is Not Null) AND ((Order.Closed)=Yes) AND ((Order.PatientName)=[Forms]![Account]![Order].[Form]![PatientName]));

Is there any way to get it to only add one record? I've tried limiting it with several parameters to no avail.

Modules & VBA :: Append And Then Update Query

Apr 4, 2014

I have two tables: tblModels and tblParts. tblModels has primary key ModelID; tblParts has primary key PartID, and also has a ModelID field that's hooked to tblModels's ModelID with referential integrity (cascade all). I have a button on my form that duplicates the model (creating a new record in tblModels and getting a new ModelID), and when that happens, I'd like for the duplication process to run an Append Query that captures all records in tblParts that matches the FIRST ModelID (the original one), and makes new copies of them in the same table, but then sets the ModelID for each new record to the NEW ModelID (that was created with the button press).

I have done this using TempVars in my Append Query, and everything is working great, except for when all the Parts records get copied and added, they all have the OLD ModelID on them, which essentially duplicates the records in the old Model and leaves the new Model empty of associated records!The Append Query is using the ModelID field to find the records I want, so how do I then get it to write a NEW ModelID to each record after they're added to the table?

EDIT: I thought of maybe doing the old TempTable, Append Query dumps to that, Update Query changes ModelID's, Append Query dumps them back to the original table... but that seems like the long way around.

Modules & VBA :: SQL Statement For Append Query?

Jul 28, 2015

I have a database where I am pulling my data in my subform from a tbl made by a make table query. However, Once a month the data will be updated and sorted by "Retrieve Date". I have made a function through a module that updates the queries with the latest retrieve date everytime new data is pasted into the database.

I am looking for a way to make the make table query only update the new data and not post records into the tables more than once. Should this be done by writing an IIF then statement and using an append query? I will copy the SQL code from my make table query below.

SQL:

SELECT qrySummary.CounterpartyName, Format([CDSsprd],"Standard") AS CDSspread, Format([Gsprd],"Standard") AS Gspread, Format([RatingsGrade],"Standard") AS RatingGrade, Format([BloombergCDS],"Standard") AS BloomCDS, Format([Avgerage],"Standard") AS [Avg], qrySummary.RetrieveDate INTO tblSummaryQry

Modules & VBA :: Stop Append Query To Add Same Records Again

Mar 23, 2015

I'm using an append query that needs to add the records from another database into a table. I can get it to get the data and add the records. There are other columns in the database that are not in the one the data is pulled from. If I would run the append query again, it would add the same records again at the end. How can I avoid this? I only need to add new records that are not yet in the database I want to pull the records to.

Modules & VBA :: Change Value Of A Field In Append Query Using SQL?

Jan 25, 2015

I have a main form which does nothing except filter subforms through a cbo.

On the main form are two subforms. One shows top line data, the other shows a breakdown of the top line data, and are linked by an unbound textbox (it's how it works, and does so perfectly)

I'm running an append query to duplicate a record in the second form using vba/sql BUT... need to have one of the fields values changed based on a field on the parent table.

If Forms!frmmain!frmPost.Form.RecordsetClone.RecordCo unt > 0 Then
strSql = "INSERT INTO [tblposts] ( TopLineID, AccountID, TransDate, Cat, SubCat, Debit, Credit ) " & _
"SELECT " & lngID & " As NewID, AccountID, TransDate, Cat, SubCat, Credit, Debit " & _
"FROM [tblposts] WHERE TopLineID = " & Me.TopLineID & ";"
DBEngine(0)(0).Execute strSql, dbFailOnError
Else
MsgBox "Main record duplicated, but there were no related records."
End If

Credit and Debits are reversed as I want one to zero out the other.

In regards to the AccountID, I've tried allsorts and it's just not working... to the point I'm almost giving up and finding an alternative.

Whats the "Correct" syntax to attach a "WHERE" statement to the highlighted [AccountID]'s (which needs to be the value on AccountID on the Parent table)

Modules & VBA :: Append Query Fails Due To Referential Integrity?

May 23, 2015

They are thus linked: (1) IDDett_Lav <---one - to- many ---> (2) Dett_LavID I'd like to preserve the referential integrity.

In vba I wrote down this codethat does work if I delete the referential interity, otherwise it fails due to (foreign) key violation. I do insert the absolutely necessary Dett_LavID with the append query, so I'm not sure where lays the problem and how to bypass it.

Code:
strSQL = "INSERT INTO MaterialiConformita (MaterialeID, DettLavorazioneID) " & _

Entering New Record Using Combobox

Jun 7, 2005

I have a form [tblStock]with a combobox bound to the Primary key [ContactID] of a table [tblContacts].
Also on the form is a subform[subContacts] bound to a query that is based on the value of the combobox
on the form. So that the details of the combobox[ContactID] is shown in the subform [subContacts].

The trouble is that i dont seem to be able to add a new ContactID in the combobox and fill in the rest
of the details in the subform.

Problem 1 is that the focus moves to a textbox that i have on the form[tblStock] when
i enter the first character into the combobox.

Problem 2 is that when i continue to click into the combobox and type the ContactID that
i have typed does not get ammended to the table[tblContacts].

I am very new to Access, it probably shows, but this problem is driving me mad....Anyone?

What I'm looking to get is

Part Number Total Quantity Serial Number 1 Serial Number 2 ..

Detect Duplicate Record Before Entering

Aug 16, 2005

I have a subform that collects the following data to put in a record in tblClass:

StudentID, Trimester, SubcatID, WorkGrade, SkillGrade

Before the record is written for the first time OR edited/updated to the table, I want to search tblClass and determine if the new/updated info will create a duplicate record.

In this specific case, a duplicate record will be defiened by a record where the only fields being considered would be StudentID, Trimester and SubcatID. The fields WorkGrade and SkillGrade should not be considered.

The code I came up with was the following and it was put in the BeforeUpdate:

Dim conn As ADODB.Connection 'Connection Object
Dim rst As ADODB.Recordset 'Recordset Object
Dim strSQL As String 'SQL statement for open statement

' Create object variables
Set conn = CurrentProject.Connection
Set rst = New ADODB.Recordset

' Create sql to search for records in tblClass that match
'studentID, Trimester, and Subcatagory in the form record being added
strSQL = "SELECT * " & _
"FROM tblClass" & _
"WHERE fldStudentID = " & StudentID & " AND " & _
"fldTrimester = '" & Trimester & "' AND " & _
"fldSubcatID = " & SubCatID & ";"

' Open recordset
rst.Open strSQL, conn, adOpenKeyset, adLockOptimistic

If rst.RecordCount >= 1 Then
' record already exists in tblClass
msgbox "Record already exists!",, "Duplicate Record Error"
Me.cboSubcatID.SetFocus
Cancel = True
End If

' Close and disassociate object variables
rst.Close
conn.Close
Set conn = Nothing
Set rst = Nothing

This code worked great except when I went to edit an existing record. When I went to change a grade (WorkGrade or SkillGrade) on an existing record, it told me that I could not enter the record because the record already existed (ie, the record I had open and was editing). I am not sure if it is my code that I need to edit or if it is the placement of the code I need to change.

Any suggestions would be great.
