Modules & VBA :: Default Value Not Working When User Open A Form
Sep 14, 2013
I think my issue is that when the user opens my form a record gets created. Thus default value will not work. what happens is; the user fills out form 1 goes to form 2 and on form 2 i want a check box default value to be true...but its always false.
the checkbox in question is adequite staff. the user gets the question, "was there adequate staff" if there was the "adequate staff box" would be true. what i have tried is i created a "dummy" checkbox (checkbox299) entitle no. and labled adequite staff checkbox as yes. on the form2 open insert the following
Code:
If Me.ADEQUATE_STAFF = False And Me.Check299 = False Then
Me.ADEQUATE_STAFF = True
Else
End If

I have a form with two subforms. One subform is a datasheet that pulls data from a temp table. During the other subforms Form_Current, the temp table is emptied (DoCmd.RunSQL "Delete from tblAddRefs"), reloaded with data relevent to the current record, and requeried (Forms("frmEDFP").Controls("tblAddRefs subform").Requery). This works like I want it to...
With the exception of the initial load of the main form. The subform based on a table shows (#Deleted) instead of data. if I step through the code, I can see that the temp table is emptied and repopulated by the time I try to requery the subform. This is still happening during the Form_Current of the other subform, which is successfully running on main form load.
If I requery (Forms("frmEDFP").Controls("tblAddRefs subform").Requery) using a button on the main form once it is loaded, the #deleted data is correctly is replaced by regular data, so it's like the requery in the Form_Current event isn't doing anything during load.

I've got a form (frmEdit) that allows users to search tblMain for records using a bunch of unbound controls and a dynamically created SQL statement. Search results are displayed in a subform (subMain), and the current record in the subform is displayed in a set of bound controls on frmEdit.
Now the important bit: There is a set of unbound checkboxes on my form that allow the user to change which fields are visible in subMain. This is accomplished by the following:
Code:
Private Sub chkName_AfterUpdate()
If Me.chkName = 0 Then
Me.subMain.Form.CorrespondingField.ColumnHidden = True
Else
Me.subMain.Form.CorrespondingField.ColumnHidden = False
End If
End Sub
Certain fields are visible by default, but the user may want to change which fields those are. Here's what I've done so far to accomplish this:
Created a button (btnChangeDefaults) that opens a form (frmChangeDefaults)
Put checkboxes for each table field on frmChangeDefaults
Put a "Cancel" button (btnCancel)* and "Done" button (btnDone)** on frmChangeDefaults.
*btnCancel just closes frmChangeDefaults without making any changes to frmChangeDefaults or frmEdit
**btnDone changes Forms.frmEdit.Form.chkName.DefaultValue to Me.CorrespondingCheckBox.Value and then closes frmChangeDefaults
This all seems to work quite well, actually. Debugging confirms that the default values of the checkboxes on frmEdit are indeed changed when I click btnDone. But when I close frmEdit and re-open it, the default values return to what they were prior. This happens even when:
I close frmEdit using DoCmd.Close acForm, "frmEdit", acSaveYes
I close frmEdit after using DoCmd.Save acForm, "FrmEdit"
I save frmEdit manually by right-clicking and pressing save
What am I missing here?

My application relies on whether Outlook is open and more importantly, with the correct Exchange profile selected. To ensure this I have the following code which, on the work PCs (Windows XP and Office 2003) works correctly.
Code:
If Outlook_is_Running = True Then
Set myOlApp = CreateObject("Outlook.Application", "localhost")
Set myNameSpace = myOlApp.GetNamespace("MAPI")
Set colFolders = myNameSpace.Folders
On Error Resume Next
[code]....
The work PCs are being upgraded soon to Windows 7 and Office 2007 so I have taken the application home and started to develop it on my home PC (Windows 8.1 64 and Office 2013 64). I have used PtrSafe where necessary and have compiled with no errors, but this code always returns false even though Outlook 2013 is open.
On further investigation, if I comment out the 'On Error Resume Next line I get the error Active X component cannot create the object (or similar) Error 429. This is the same regardless of whether Outlook is open or not

Private Sub btncard_Click()
Dim stLinkCriteria As String
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdSaveRecord
stLinkCriteria = "[jobref]=" & "'" & Me![jobref] & "'"
DoCmd.Close
DoCmd.OpenForm "k_job_card", , , stLinkCriteria
End Sub
this button code opens the k_job_card form.
the form opens and says 'Record 1 of 1, (Filtered)
i have a control on the form that opens.. and i am simply trying to assign a default value to that control..
it is a textbox.. for my jobtype field (text datatype)..
is there any particular reason why i cannot assign a default value to a control if it has been placed on a form that has been opened using a form filter?
this is how the Form Data tab is set at the moment..

Access 2007-10
Listbox created: List62 (I know I need to rename it, but for now)
Multi-select: Extended
Row Source Type: Field List
Row Source: qryFieldList
Open Query: qrySelectedFields (I added primary key to first column, just to have at least one destination field).
Goal: to select multiple fields within listbox, click on command button to open query "qrySelectedFields" with selected fields from list box.This is the code I have on the command_click:
Dim varItem As Variant
Dim strSQL As String
If Me.List62.ItemsSelected.Count = 0 Then
MsgBox "Please select one or more fields.", vbExclamation, "Healthcare REIT"
Me.List62.SetFocus
End If
[code]....
It does absolutely nothing - doesn't add the fields to "qrySelectedFields", doesn't open the query, notta.

Hello all,
I have a table in access and one of the fields (date) has a default value of =now().
I have an excel spreadsheet that has all the fields in the access table inlcuding the date column (but the column is not populated).
When I import the spreadsheet into access, I get some errors...violations...when I open up the table, it does not have the date field populated, do you know why?
Thanks for your help.

I have a database that has a main form, and from that main form there are buttons that open their respected forms. I am curious as to how I control the size of all of my forms. They are all pop-ups at the moment. It all works fine on my monitor, but when opened on a smaller monitor it is too big and I can't even see the bottom of the screen. The main form is set to open automatically after the user logs into the database and it opens to fit the screen. also, all of my forms are modals.

I have a form where the control source of several text box fields includes a function that looks up values in a table that is not the form's record source. The default value in the property for these fields is set to 0. Unfortunately, when I migrate to a new record, these fields display the dreaded #Error. It should be noted that these fields are for display only and are not even in the form's underlying table.Here is an example of the control source for one of the fields:
Code:
=GetFYSummary("Budget",[ProjectID],0,0,"PPE","frm_ProjectFinancials")
Here is the start of the code for the function:
Code:
Public Function GetFYSummary(strField As String, lngProjectID As Long, lngFYYear As Long, intPeriod As Integer, _
strWBSType As String, strSource As String) As Long
[code]...
I'm trying to cover my bases to ensure that the displayed value of the field shows 0 rather than #Error.I even tried including a breakpoint at the first line of code in the function and it is never even triggered when I move to a new record.As soon as I type the first letter/number in a field that is tied to the form's record source, all of these display values do change to 0 appropriately.

How I might use a value selected by a user on a database opening menu (which remains open), as a default value for records created programmatically in other tables?
I wonder if I need to write a function to repeat the value - but I cannot see how to use a form value outside of the form's own code. Some of my existing code inserts values into tables using SQL converted into VBA and I do not really want to start fiddling with that - I would rather for now use the default value of the table for the field.
My variable which will change depending upon which set of records a user is working on is a string "FullAccession".
When a user creates records in a table called tblGroups, I need the string "FullAccession" to be the default value in the tblGroups.FullAccession field. A unique integer in the tblGroups is "GroupNo". "GroupNo" and "FullAccession" are joined in a unique index for tblGroups. There is a separate PK autonumber.

How to set focus to a non Default instance of a form.
Environment
A2007 ADP Project
Document Window Option - Tabbed Documents
MS SQL 2012 Express DB
Windows 7 64 Bit
I using Allen Browne's method to open more that one version of form, storing each form object in a collection declared in a module. No problem there.
Now I'm trying to add a command button on an form to set focus to one of these non-default instances already open.
The form I am trying to set focus to has a the following related properties
Default View: Split Form
Pop-up: No
Modal: No
The form that has the command button on it is of the same type.
Here is the code I've tried:
'Code on Calling Form
Private Sub cmdProjectList_Click()
Dim FunctionResult As Boolean
If AppForms.GoToForm("ProjectList") = False Then
AppForms.Load_ProjectList
[Code] .....
The code compiles and executes with seemingly no problems. It finds the form loaded, then cycles though and finds the form in Forms but the SetFocus call seems to do nothing. When I run the code against a defualt instance ( one not opened using Allen Browne's method) it works fine and sets focus to it as expected.

If IsNull(Me.txtoperationscontract) Then
MsgBox "Please type a contract number into the textbox!", vbInformation + vbOKOnly, "Incorrect Details"
Else
Me.OperationsSubform.Form.Filter = "[Contract]='" & Me.txtoperationscontract.Value & "' "
Me.OperationsSubform.Form.FilterOn = True
End If
The problem is that it does not work on subform B because the Contract field does not exist.

I have an Access 2010 database with two tables and two forms. The tables are Organizations and People. Similarly, the forms are Organizations Entry Form and PeopleEntryForm. The People are linked to the Organizations table. Several people can be linked to the same organization.On my Organizations EntryForm, I created a command button to duplicate a record using the wizard. It works fine.
I did exactly the same thing on the PeopleEntryForm, but instead of copying the record, it creates a new blank record. I don't get any error messages. Is my problem due to the fact that the People table is linked to the Organizations table?

If I have a field in a table called "AddedBy", is there a way for this to default to the CurrentUser that's logged in to the database when a record is added to the table? I know you can use "Application.CurrentUser" both in the VB code and within SQL queries, but it doesn't seem to work if I put it in the "Default Value" box with the table editor. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks!

I recently completed a database project and was set to launch it today for use throughout the company. The database is split, and both ends are saved in the same folder on the company server. I have copied a shortcut to the front-end file onto the desktop of each of the four user computers. Two of the four users are able to open and operate the front-end with no issues. The other two won't run the 'Default Value' formula for the "Order#" field in the front-end form. This being the case, I'm certain this is not a code issue.
Form
- Field
- Control Source
- Default Value
PO#
= [YEAR] & ["P"] & [Order#]
N/A
[code].....
When I opened the form on the two noncompliant computers the PO# field displayed #Type!.I deleted the Order# default value to confirm that that was indeed the source of the problem, and it is. When deleted, the PO# field displays "13P" instead of "#Type!".
I've tinkered around with Trust Center to no avail. And I'm almost certain this is not an upgrade/patch issue as one of the nonconcompliant computers had Access 2010 downloaded yesterday. The server and all users have Access 2010.As well, the option settings on the front-end are set to only open the form, with no editing capabilities. However, when using Shift+Enter to open the edit capable version, there is no issue; the PO# populates.

I'm using an Excel spreadsheet that is importing external data from an access database in which I've got a field where the name of a person checking materials out is entered. it is currently set up, and I cannot change it, as a free form field. So folks enter information in a variety of ways.
For example, Larry Martin might be entered as "Larry Martin" or "Martin, Larry" or "larry.martin@somewhere.com". I'm trying to run a query that would look in that field for any entry with the string I enter, such as "Martin."
I've tried setting the criteria like this:
Like "*" & [Which Last Name] & "*"
However, when I try and run the query I get a message telling me the system is expecting two parameters.
Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? I've been banging my head against this for awhile now and am thoroughly stumped! All assistance, as usual, is greatly appreciated!
