Modules & VBA :: Dynamic Button Function And Single Field Report

Jun 25, 2013

I'm still learning Access 2010 and having issues getting my buttons to work. I'm working on a simple address database.edit/save button. On form load, my fields are locked and my button will read "edit". After clicking, my fields are unlocked, my search features are locked, and my button reads "save" just how I need it to. The issue happens when I try and save the field edits, lock fields, return search features, and get button to read "edit" again. I know I need to add some code into what I already have, but I'm running into a wall as I have tried many options to get it to work. Here is the code for this button:

Code:
Private Function Lockdown() 'locks controls at load
Dim tb As Control
Dim cb As Control
Dim subf As Control

[code]...

Second issue is with my report button. I have not been able to get this to work once. I have done many searches on single record reports, and have found the same code every time. I added that code into my database, but can't seem to get it to work. In my database there are two address (shipping and work location) which I would like to print out together. I have the work location on the main form and the shipping on a subform. There are and upwards of 150 locations I will have in my database, Here is the code I'm working with:

Code:
Private Sub cmdrptadd_Click()
Dim strReportName As String
Dim strCriteria As String

[code]...

Dynamic Multiple Criteria In A Single Field

Apr 5, 2007

I have a query that displays all records. I need it to limit based on multiple criteria in a single field. I.E... instead of all employees from every section, I just want it to display employees from section A, C, D, F one time and next time maybe go with section B, C, D. For some reason the solution eludes my little brain.

Modules & VBA :: Building Dynamic Filter For Report?

May 20, 2015

I have a button that opens a report. The code behind the button builds the filter criteria for the report based on some selections in a list box.

Code:
DoCmd.openReport "Report", acViewPreview, "", GetCriteria
For VarItem = 0 To Me.List2.listcount - 1
strCriteria = strCriteria & "([ProjectNo]= '" & Me.List2.Column(1, VarItem) & "' And [ClientID] = " & Me.List2.Column(0, VarItem) & ") Or "
Next VarItem
If strCriteria <> "" Then
strCriteria = Left(strCriteria, Len(strCriteria) - 4)
Else
strCriteria = "True"
End If
GetCriteria = strCriteria

This is what the filter would look like with values after running the report (taken from filter bar in report properties):

([ProjectNo]= '150002' And [ClientID] = 206) Or ([ProjectNo]= '150003' And [ClientID] = 79)

Problem is that i only get records for ([ProjectNo]= '150002' And [ClientID] = 206). I this seems only filter ONE set of criteria ignoring all the others. What am i doing wrong?

Modules & VBA :: Generate Dynamic Report From Listboxes?

Jun 6, 2013

Is it possible to generate a report from 2 listboxes?

I have attached a pic of what I am trying to accomplish. I am wanting to have a report open with only the criteria that a user selects from the listboxes.

listbox 1: User selects a case number(s)

listbox 2: User selects the fields they would like in the report

So, if the user selects:

Case number: 13-001

Then selects fields:

Allegation
Incident date
Focus_Last name

This report would be:

Code:
Case Number Allegation Incident Date Focus_Last Name
13-001 DUI 06/01/2013 Doe

Reports :: Dynamic Field On A Report?

Jul 3, 2014

I'm currently creating an invoicing report for a company, and for record purposes they need a dynamic field on the report for the specific Invoice Number of each client they invoice. I have the field set up currently as a text box =[Invoice#] so they have to enter an invoice number when they generate the report. However, when I generate the report and put in a number, I'm getting some whacky outputs.

For example, I've tested it with a test client, and when I give the client an invoice number of 1, the report somehow changes it to 49.

Modules & VBA :: Static Shell Function Call Works But Dynamic Call Fails

Sep 4, 2013

I'm having to recode some old MS Access DBs so they will run in the following environments:

Office 2000 on WinXP
Office 2003 on WinXP
Office 2010 on WinXP
Office 2000 on Win7
Office 2003 on Win7
Office 2010 on Win7

When I wrote my code for Office 2000 on WinXP things were simple because directory paths were the same across all computers and I could hard code pathing when using a shell command to launch other files.

My new approach is to make a function call to the Windows registry to determine the default executable and path for opening a file based upon its extension (see apicFindExecutable in basWindows API module).

I'm able to use code to create a shell call and debug print it to the immediate window. If I put my cursor in the immediate window at the end of the shell call and hit [enter] the external file will open as desired. If I try to open the external file directly through code, I get a file not found error.

To recreate the error take the following steps:

(1) browse to files that are accessible from your computer
(2) click the PREPARE DATA AND OPEN MAIL MERGE DOCUMENTS command button

Shell function call is made by the fnOpenFile function located in the basOpenFile module. There has to be a trick here that I'm missing.

Button Function In Form To Generate Report?

Aug 8, 2006

Hello,

I am trying to see if the following is possible. I have created a form in my database that tracks how many thank you letters I have sent out with a "check for yes" box.

On records where there is no check I want to create a button beside that says "Print Thank You Letter". It would then generate a form based on that certain customer's information.

Is there a way for me to do this? Also, will the report automatically generate that person's information found in the record?

Thanks,
MACCESSGIRL

Modules & VBA :: Dynamic Query Change Field Selections

Jun 25, 2014

I am trying to build a function that will create a dynamic query for a chart on a Subreport.I am not exactly sure I am going about this the right way, but I need the user to be able to change selected fields for use in the query. I have a form with 3 combobox controls for selecting options to change the SQL statement. So far my code only deals with one of these comboboxes for simplicity. There is a button to call my function. Currently, the function is setting hidden text box values based on the combo controls, but I'm not sure if this is redundant.

I am using this as my guide for building the sql, but I am having trouble picking up the values in my text boxes for use in the SQL. [URL] .....

Code:
Option Compare Database
Option Explicit

[code]...

how do I get a value from an unbound textbox on an unbound form into a string to use as sql? The value in the textbox is a number.

Modules & VBA :: Adding Secondary Function To Existing Command Button

Nov 12, 2013

I have a command button that basically saves the record that i just finished entering. here's the code:

Private Sub cmdAddAnother_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_cmdAddAnother_Click

DoCmd.DoMenuItem acFormBar, acRecordsMenu, 5, , acMenuVer70
Exit_cmdAddAnother_Click:

[Code] ....

What I'd like to do now is add a second function that will make all the controls on the form go to null after the record is saved. so the user can start from scratch and add another record.

I tried adding me.refresh right before "end sub" but that didnt work.

I tried adding "me.controlname.value = null" for every control on the form, and that didnt work either.

I also tried adding this code that i found on bytes.com:

On Error Resume Next

Dim ctl As Control
For Each ctl In Me.Controls
ctl.Value = Null
Next

That didn't work either.

Modules & VBA :: 1 Function For Multiple Buttons / And Using Arrays For Button Colors

Mar 4, 2014

Question 1:

I am attempting to make a macro to pull information based on a clicked button to provide information to another form. While my example below will be rudimentary, I am attempting to create so that it can be applied to 450 buttons, hence the need for it to be a macro and not simply code per button.

For example if I have 3 buttons, captioned: red, green and blue. If I click on the blue button, it will open another form with a text-box that will say 'blue'. Likewise, if I click the red button the text-box will be changed to 'red'.

In the code below the section that I need to change is: Command1.Caption. Using this data I can pull from the one button to create the value, but I need it to be based on an OnClick or something in order to pull the value from the right button.

Example:

Function Macro1()
On Error GoTo Macro1_Err
DoCmd.OpenForm "Form2", acNormal, "", "", , acNormal
Forms!Form2!Text0.Text = Forms!Form1!Label0.Caption
DoCmd.GoToControl "[Text2]"
Forms!Form2!Text2.Text = Forms!Form1!Command1.Caption

[code]...

Question 2:
I am trying to use a query to change button colour on the basis of values stored in a table.What I want to do is change the button background after comparing the button name to the same variable in a table, and determining another variable.

IE:
Button1, Button2. In table: Button1, Val = Y, and Button 2, Val = Z

Pseudo Code:
Array: From Button1 to Button2
Query for Button1 against table
If Val = Y, Button1.background = red
Else if Val = Z, Button1.background = blue
Else Button1.background = black
End if

Modules & VBA :: Return Multiple Records In A Single Field

Apr 6, 2014

I'm trying to create a report that's based on a query, and the query has three fields: [PersonName], [PersonDate], [PersonShift]. This table holds records for people that worked on certain days and certain shifts. What I want to do is create a report that gives a graphical calendar display of each day in a month, and on any day that the person has a record (and sometimes there are more than one), I'd like to see just the PersonShift records showing in that day's box.

tblPersons
PersonName PersonDate PersonShift
Jason 4/10/14 FIRST
Jason 4/13/14 FIRST
Jason 4/13/14 SECOND

So if I were to print this report for Jason, I'd get all the days in April laid out like a calendar, and on 4/10/14 you'd see "FIRST" in the box, and on 4/13/14. you'd see FIRST and SECOND in the box. All the other boxes would be blank.how to display the calendar, how to display the dates. I'm able to return records to those boxes by creating 31 separate queries, one for each day of the month, and each query returns records for that day. The queries are added to the report as subreports. It all works beautifully.

The thing is, I'm running 31 queries every time I pull the report. Is there a way to code a single field on a report that will run a SELECT statement on the table using variables that are located in fields elsewhere in the record?

If I have a PersonName field on the header of the report, and I have a PersonDate field in the detail of the report's record, can I create a new field in the detail of that record that runs a SELECT statement on qryPersons, and filters the tblPersons by the PersonName on the header of the report and on PersonDate in the record?

I want a field on a report that runs a SELECT statement on tblPersons, I want the field to return only the PersonShift records for that person based upon the PersonDate. Each of the fields on my report have a CalendarDate field, and I want the SELECT statement to return records where the PersonDate matches the CalendarDate, and again, it should only display PersonShift records.

Modules & VBA :: Report Function To Trigger On Next Record

Jun 25, 2014

im working on an access report and would like a little vba script to run on when the page prints out the next record (mostly just need to hide/unhide a few objects and change the value of a variable on the report when it prints the next record)how i can trigger this (as there seems to be no onNextRecord event handler)

edit: upon a better inspection of the reports record source i realized that on next record doesnt actually work (i could force it to by adding a few new fields to queries and forcing endless loops), what i needs actually a lil more complicated

my report has a header, in the header is a field called productionNo, the record source has multiple instances of prodno's with countless duplicates, what i need is a function to trigger when the productionno changes, there will probably be a few pages with the same production number (theyd be grouped together though), so it should only trigger when the value changes, not when it stays the same

Modules & VBA :: Sending A Single Email To A Single Record In A Query

May 15, 2014

I am trying to create a form with a button attached to each record that would allow the user to click the button and it would automatically open outlook and fill in the TO:, SUBJECT: and BODY: fields. Here is the code that I currently have:

Code:
Private Sub Command33_Click()
Dim strEmail As String
Dim strMsg As String
Dim oLook As Object
Dim oMail As Object
Set oLook = CreateObject("Outlook.Application")
Set oMail = oLook.CreateItem(0)

[code]...

There are two issues I keep running into:

1. This code opens outlook and populates all of the fields but pastes the email incorrectly. Instead of pasting just the email (email@email.com) it pastes the html tags as well (email@email.com#mailto:email@email.com#) which means that the user would have to delete everything between the #'s in order to send the email every time.

2. I currently have the email BODY pulling from a table but this obviously limits what I can do. I would like to simply encode the BODY within the VBA code. The setup I am looking for is:
one paragraph
a blank line
a hyperlink to a website
a blank line
another paragraph
