I have a POS system, packaged with Access Runtime, running on a PC and have developed a database system to provide additional function. I have no documentation to the names of the Forms or Controls in POS. My ADDON system does link to the POS Tables and has some Tables of its own.
At the time in the POS system where the cashier checks out the customer, they need to AltTab to my ADDON system to enter some information for the customer. They remember to CustomerKey from the screen on the POS system and key it into a Form Control in my ADDON system.I want to, from my ADDON system, read the value of the CustomerKey in POS and fill it in so the cashier does not need to remember/type it.
Is it possible to get the data from another already running Access database?I don't know the name of the control. Is it possible to run through a list of Forms and Controls in the POS system from my ADDON system?
I do know the name of the field in the Table and expect it to be current and might have to get that?Failing all that, is there a Collection of running Access databases? I could go through its Forms and Controls one time looking for what i want.

I have a secure MS Access database, where users by default can only read data, but not write. How can I prevent them from importing or linking files, or inserting objects? I don't want to use any passwords in my database, since it's used inside the application. Thank you.

Hi Guys,
I have a database that uses a switchboard with a close button that runs several instructions before it exits. The problem is that some users have access to the database window and I need to prevent them from closing the database by hitting the X in the upper right.
Anyone know how to do this?

Hi All,
Is there a way to disable the Access Min Max Close buttons like you can on forms?
I need to have people use a "Close Application" button (there is code behind it)
To be clear.. I need to disable the Min Max Close on the Access application and not forms.
Thanks

Question:
Is it possible to see if a database has stopped running (errored out, timed out, or if code builder is open) thru another database. I know how to look for the .LDB file to see if the database is open...but is it possible to know if it's broken?
The reason I ask is that I have a database on a pc (can't be put on a network) that updates/refreshes every 5 minutes. Once in awhile someone will do something and cause the database to halt (code builder window opens). Currently the way I check to see if the database is running is to VNC onto the pc from my pc and see if it's running. Does this make since?

Hi all,
I am trying to update a table in a database (Lets call that DbNew). I want that when DbNew form is loaded it automatically updates its underlying table (lets call it TblNew) by running a make table query (called "coversheet") that is located in another database (call that DbOld). DbNew and dbOld are all on a network and I dont have total access on DbOld (but I have created the make table query "coversheet in DbOld).
I should also state that DbNew is bound to TblNew and I am not interested in keeping the old table in DbNew. Information is frequently updated in DbOld and all I am interested in is loading the most current info in DbNew so the current table can be deleted upon loading DbNew and a new one created. Here is what I tried doing and I have it in the form load event of DbNew. This however returns an error (Runtime Error 3010. That TblNew already exists)
Dim db As Database
Set db = OpenDatabase("\networkdbOld.mdb")
db.Execute ("Coversheet")
DoEvents
Set db = Nothing
End Sub
P/S: I am not good at access in anyway I should state.
Thank you for taking the time to read.

I am wondering if there is a way to disable the "saveas" in excel from access with vba? I have the following code:
Private Sub cmdReport_Click()
Dim path As String
Dim XL As Object
[Code]....
Which I have used in another excel file. But I can't use that now. The file I am opening from access is a workbook generated from an excel template, and I have yet to find a way on how to transfer this Workbook_BeforeSave sub from the template to the new workbook.

When UseDDelivery is checked the three textboxes should be disable and when the form is opened UseDDelivery is set to be checked by default so the textboxes should be disabled when the form opens but they aren't. the two different ways of doing it are shown below.
Elements specific to my system :UseDDelivery = checkbox
AltDeliveryAddress = textbox1
AltDeliveryTown = textbox 2
AltdeliveryPostcode = textbox3
Solution 1:
Code:
Me.AltDeliveryAddress.Enabled = UseDDelivery.Value
Me.AltDeliveryTown.Enabled = UseDDelivery.Value
Me.AltDeliveryPostcode.Enabled = UseDDelivery.Value
This is a bit of vba a friend wrote for me quickly, it includes all three textboxes but the checkbox enables them instead of disables.
solution 2:
Code:
Private Sub UseDDelivery_AfterUpdate()
If AltDeliveryAddress.Enabled = True Then
AltDeliveryAddress.Enabled = False
Else
AltDeliveryAddress.Enabled = True
End If
End Sub
With this bit of vba I found the checkbox enables the textbox instead of disabling it and I can't figure out how to include the other two textboxes

I have a main form and 2 subform. The first subform has a field for %. And the 2nd subform has series of checkbox (Checklist or error made by the student)
Because every checkbox will lower the mark from 100 to x points per checkbox.So, I want that, if the field is not set to 100 yet, then they will not be able to check any box in the subform.I tried, before update of the subform, etc, but none work properly.

I am working on adding a layer of security to my current DB. I've got usernames and passwords set up, along with access info (controlling what aspects of my DB certain users are able to interact with)....
I've managed to disable the navigation pane and ribbon for most users (only me and another user will have access) and now i want to try and disable editing....
Cannot find any VBA coding online to allow me to prevent people from editing forms/reports/queries in Design or Layout view.... How this can be accomplished?

I would like to disable the Navigation Pane completely, based on the security level of the user that logs in, of course.
I have code that checks their level (I'm an "Admin" and everyone else is a "User"). If they are a user, then it hides the ribbon and minimizes the nav pane. If the login is mine, it enables everything.
That works, but the only problem is that the user can just maximize the Nav Pane on their own and access all the tables, and I don't want that. I can't find any code that completely disables the pane.
I have this code connected to my login button on my login form:
Code:
If Security = "User" Then
DoCmd.ShowToolbar "Ribbon", acToolbarNo
DoCmd.NavigateTo "acNavigationCategoryObjectType"
DoCmd.Minimize
Else
DoCmd.ShowToolbar "Ribbon", acToolbarYes
DoCmd.NavigateTo "acNavigationCategoryObjectType"
DoCmd.Maximize
End If
I can go to the options menu and disable the nav pane completely, so I know since only I have access to the ribbon, I could always go in each time and recheck the display nav pane option on that menu. But, that could be a little bit of a pain having to do that each time.
Also, I know I could finish the design and convert the DB to an MDE, but since my DB isn't broken up into a front/back end, I have to access that same DB everyone else uses, and if any changes need to be made, I don't want to have to use my backup, transfer over the changes any user made to the records, and then reconvert it back to an MDE each time.
If it's possible, I'd like to do all this using VBA. If they aren't an ADMIN user, then disable everything for them, but if I login, enable everything for me.

I am new to access.
On occasion my access database all of a sudden begins to operate very slowly, I notice the queries take a much longer time to run.
Last week it suddenly began to operate very slowly after idling in excess of 30 mins
Today when I change the screen to design view and then back to form view once again it begins to operate very slowly. (yesterday was working fine on my desktop at home, I have not made any changes to the database with exception to saving and using the file this morning on the shared drive at work) If I shut down and re open it operates well but once again changing to design view causes the same issue. Sometimes compact and repair rectifies sometimes not.

On a form, I want to disable the save button, 'cmdSave' whilst the form's mandatory fields have been left blank.
I've put in a smart tag, called, 'Req' against each required field and have used the following code on the forms current event.
Code:
Private Sub Form_Current()
Dim ctl As Control
For Each ctl In Me.Controls
If ctl.ControlType = acTextBox Or ctl.ControlType = acComboBox Or ctl.ControlType = acListBox Then
[Code] ....
The save button is disabled, but it won't enable again after each field has data entered against it.
I also have this code in the AfterUpdate event in each required field:
Code:
Private Sub cboErrorID_AfterUpdate()
Call Form_Current
End Sub

I have written code to look up a value in a table that then enables or disables a subform in my main form. The code works, but I know it is now as efficient as it can be. The main problem is that I have multiple values that determine if the subform should be enabled or disabled. I would like to use an IN statement but I'm pretty sure this doesn't work for Dlookup. Below is an example of the code I currently have:
Code:
Sub enablecontrols(setting As Boolean)
Inv_subform.Enabled = setting
End Sub
Private Sub Form_Current()
[Code] ....
Like I said, this works fine, but I am concerned if I need to add more items to look up and the stability of the code in general.

I have just installed the windows version of Access 2010 on OSX Mountain Lion using a program called Crossover which works very similarly to WINE. I have found that Access will install fine except for VBA form modules and BAS modules, although there seems to be no indication that they did not install as the entire install progresses fine.
I've put together an invoicing program that was created in Access 2010 in Windows but have transferred it over to Access 2010 installed on OSX. It contains a number of forms with code but when I go to VBE, form code modules are not visible. When I try to view the code for a form I get the following error message: "Microsoft Access failed to create the Visual Basic module. If your database is on a network drive, check your network connection, then try again". I was able to insert a BAS module and create a rudimentary VBA subroutine which ran without error so it does seem able to interpret VBA as per normal.

I have a button on a form, when it is clicked it opens a video file located in a folder on the local computer. Each time the button is clicked a security pop up appears that says "Opening file://C:lahblahyadayadaFile.mp4 Some files can contain viruses or otherwise be harmful to your computer. It is important to be certain that this file is from a trustworthy source. Would you like to open this file?" options are open or cancel. How can these messages be turned off?
I have already played around in the trust center of Access 2010 and changed the "trusted documents", "trusted locations", and "message Bar" tabs with no results. Do I have to play with regedit in windows to get rid of these pop ups? Or can I somehow use VBA code to disable them?They are just a nescience.
