I am developing a new tool which needs to show the history of updates to the users, i.e.:
An observation is entered into a field on the MAIN FORM by user 1.
User 2 reviews the observation on the MAIN FORM and adds a separate comment in another field on the same form.
When the record is saved, the updates are NOT written to the Main Form Table but to the UPDATES TABLE for audit purposes.
I am also using current date/ time as a timestamp, which is protected and needs to be carried over to the UPDATES TABLE Every time a new comment is added in the MAIN FORM, I need it to be written to the UPDATES TABLE as a new record.
What I need to be able to show is:
Each comment added, as a list of readable records, in a table within the main form AND Each time the main form is refreshed/ opened the separate comment field is blank to enable each new update to be applied.
How to extract the comment system from the Contacts Web Database template found in Access 2010? I can upload it if you like.
I would like to use it in a standard desktop database to track notes and comments in my records.
I am able to convert it from web to standard, but it still appears to use data macros or something, and my knowledge on macros is limited.
I just want to keep a history of my notes for each record, with the most recent always listed, and the comment system in the Contacts Web Database template seems perfect for that. I just don't know how to implement it into my desktop database.
I have a form with a sub form. when a record is choosen in a combo box the sub form is filled out with a record.
what I am trying to do is have a button that will copy that record to a history table then delete it off the the main table.
I cheated by using the wizard to get the code to delete the record but I am having troubles modifying the code to copy that record to the history table. Here is the code below. I have tried to insert code in several places but it just errors out.

I'm using Access 2013, with a standard database (non web).
I am trying to figured out a method to keep track of notes and comments that are entered into a record. I would like them to be time stamped, and the most recent listed first.
Do I have to use a split form or similar to do that? Is there a intermediate to easy method of accomplishing this task?
If anyone has seen the Contacts Web database template in Access 2010, the 'Add a Comment' section would be ideal to what I'm looking for. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to implement it into my database.
I have one memo per change (user input)...I need to have the comment the user inputs to copy into other records that were queried. I tried insert. My coding does one of the records or all of the records ..I need it to copy just to the queried records ...and I have a query but no filter set.

View 5 Replies View RelatedHi all, I need some help figuring this problem out. I’ll keep it simple. I have a data entry form with 3 text boxes where you can enter product name, serial number and comments. A save button writes the entry to a table called “Products”. That’s all fine.
I also have a data edit form and this is what I need some help with. The product name will always remain the same but the serial number and comments may change. Should a change be made, I want the existing record being modified to go into a table called History before the Products table is updated with the new serial number and comments. The idea is to keep a full traceability of all the changes made when a report is printed off. What’s the easiest way to this please? thanks

I am trying to update the current status of an asset, when it was returned or checked out. At the same time, save the changes in a history table to record all the changes in past. I can do individually from different tables and different forms, but I would like to do from one form and one record entry. Is it possible? If so can anybody help?

I have a form where there are many users to enter or update data. I need to capture the username who created a record , then , on form load , I want system to check for username if it is same as the creator of a record , then allow update , otherwise don’t allow update , but allow only adding new records. View 3 Replies View RelatedMy problem is related to an Access database, where an auto complete Combo box is used to select a client record by entering the ID number or the clients name. EG: 14034 or Bloggs,Fred. This problem has me puzzled (not difficult to do).I have seen this in a functioning DB. I can see that maybe the ID (a long integer) would have to be stored or converted to a string on the fly.
I am currently using Access 2007 but 2010 and 2013 are available (prefer 2007 as MS keep moving things around ).I am currently selecting a client record using either an ID select Combo or a ClientName Combo and works very well. But, after seeing it done in one Combo box, it just seems so elegant.
I am having a difficult time figuring out how to have a table add a new record that includes the Windows username of the user that clicks the button on my form. The function is in place that pulls the Windows username:

I then call the function during the button click by simply adding getWinUser. Unfortunately, all that occurs is that the same record gets updated instead of creating a new record.

I have a table that deals with current data (as in member rentals of items). The normalized tables that we have been given include a rental history table. The idea is that, when the member has returned the product a history entry is made in the completed rental table.
I wish to have a button which is clicked to triggers this event. Would I program a macro to do this? In other words, would I create an event that passes those values to the relevant fields in the other table (Name, date issued, return date etc)?

I would like to ask how can i validate the username and password in a textbox? I have a frmLogin and frmMain.
I have also a table called 'tblUsers' with column fields 'username and password'.
If username is not found in database then a msgbox will prompt 'Username is not yet created'.
If username is okay and password is incorrect then msgbox will prompt 'Incorrect password'

View 13 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to find a code that will allow me to check a value of a yes/no checkbox based on a username.
What I want to happpen is:
1. The code looks to see if the username that is entered in "txtUsername" field on the form matches the "empUsername" value on the table "tblUsers."
2. If there is a match, I want it to look at the value for the field "Admin" on "tblUsers" to see if the value is checked as true.
3. If the value is true, I want it to open a specific form "frmAdmin." If it is false, I want it to open a form "frmMain."
VBA codes not recognizing the Admin field and instead taking all users into the frmMain.
I'm working on creating an events log. In my table I've got a field that pulls the individual's username (that they use to log into the computer) and logs it against their log entry.
As part of my query (for my daily events log report) I'm pulling up said username.
I'd like to give access to the specific user to edit his (and only his) entries from the report, but I'm getting a type mismatch with the below code:

I have a parent table (tblLabels) and a child table (tblRevision) where the revision history for the parent table is kept.
The parent table is populated via an excel import and may have several records imported at once. Instead of having the user manually enter a new record note in the child table for each record imported into the parent table, I've created a form that collects the necessary data (date, person who added the record, person who authorized the record, and notes) and then creates a revision history for each new record.

When I run the code nothing happens. No error, no new records create, etc. My suspicion is that I may need to use an INSERT INTO query instead of an UPDATE query, but I'm not sure how to go about matching up the foreign keys if that's the case.

in the comments field the user adds comments, i'm trying to updated the comments with the status, for example; the user added some comments like. "The test will begin next week" I want the comments feild to automatically get updated when the user changes the status for example to Run, I want the "run status to be added to end of the comments line" can somebody help?
