Modules & VBA :: Join Multiple Values Into String For Summarizing Data On Reports And Exports

Mar 14, 2014

I have to join multiple values into a string for summarizing data on reports and exports. This process in vba is taking up to 10 minutes to process and will get worse as the size of these reports grow.

My method so far is to query the individual items into a recordset, loop through the values, adding them to the string then return the string in the query.

Here is an example:

Public Function SO_Description(intSO As Integer) As String
Dim db As DAO.Database
Dim rs As DAO.Recordset
Dim strSQLSelect As String
SO_Description = "Profiles: "
Set db = CurrentDb

[Code] ....

Reports :: Join Together Multiple Rows To One Field?

Jul 1, 2015

I have been struggling with combining multiple rows into one row for an order summary report.

Specifically, I have three tables (Products, Orders, and OrderDetails)

Products
=======
ProductID = AutoNumber
ProductName = String

Orders
======
OrderID = AutoNumber
OrderDate = Date/Time
OrderInfo = Memo
CustomerName = Text
CustomerAddress = Text
PaymentDetails = Text

OrderProductDetails
=========
OrderNumber = Number (Linked to OrderID)
ProductNumber = Number (Linked to ProductID)
Notes = Memo (Notes on product customization)

The OrderProductDetails table is in many to one relationships with both Orders and Products table. If I place an order with 3 products, the OrderProductDetails datasheet would be:

OrderNumber ProductNumber
========================
1 78 (Product 1)
1 89 (Product 2)
1 56 (Product 3)

On my report, instead of 3 entries for this order, I would like show just one entry under a column "Products Ordered" ---> Product 1, Product 2, Product 3.

I tried the Concatenate macros I found online, however, I am unable to configure them properly to use for this purpose.

I am using Access 2010.

Queries :: Summarizing / Counting Data In A Report

Feb 8, 2015

I'm using Access 2010. I have a report that summarises students and the number of courses they are attending after a set date. My query lists name, course date, course description, the count being on the course description. I thought it was working until I noticed that students are listed twice if they attended courses on two separate days.

For example
Liz 4
Liz 3
instead of
Liz 7

I have moved the count to other fields but it then doesn't show any students at all when I run the query.

Reports :: String Together Multiple YES / NO Text Boxes On Report

Sep 1, 2014

I have a Table of Special instructions. Each type of a Yes or No Text Box. There are 13 items in this table along with the ID key.

Each Field has a Special Description. I used the Y/N format for ease of use for user input to simply select the applicable options.

However, I need the text description to display on the printed report, which is not the problem.

So i created a separate text box for each item that simply says; If True, "Description", else blank. And named each one sp1...sp14.

So now, I want to take these text boxes with the proper descriptions and string them together.

My formula is: =Trim([sp1])&" "&([sp2]) etc.

This does produce the proper text results, however, and oddly enough, each item displays on its own line rather than in a string.

I get:
SP1
SP1

Instead of the desired result of SP1 SP2

This seems to simple, and probably has to do with the yes/no format. I've tried with and without (), and using + instead of &, and to troubleshoot, I eliminated the " ". No luck. Everything is coming back as a single column.

Modules & VBA :: How To Add Check Box Values In To Filter String

Feb 2, 2014

I have got like subform which I think is the tech term I use it to filter dates on field "date raised" and open's a report depend on date's entered in txtstartdate and txtenddate it works perfectly but I need to add some check boxes to check other field's are true/false ...

Code:
Private Sub cmdPreview_Click()
Dim strReport As String
Dim strDateField As String
Dim strWhere As String
Dim lngView As Long

[Code] ....

I need to add code to the text in red well I'm guessing

here goes with what I would like to add
job cancelled1 check box name field name= job cancelled
job on hold1 check box name field name = job on hold
void property1 check box name field name = void property

E.g. if I put date range in my date boxes and tick job cancelled show all record in that date range cancelled same with job on hold and void property

here some code I did but wont work as it not in the same strwhere above

Code:
if me[job cancelled1] = true then
strwhere = [job cancelled] = 1 'field name
else
strwhere [job cancelled] is null
end if

Some how need to add the strwhere to the code above ...

Modules & VBA :: How To Handle String Values Containing Apostrophes Or Quotes

Sep 2, 2014

My db contains an unlinked form that is used to append records to 1-3 separate tables (tests to see if master records exists, appends if needed, moves on to child records). One of the fields is a text field meant for notes. The VBA errors out whenever this text contains apostrophes or quotes.

Is there a simple way to recall the string field with quotes and apostrophes intact and append it, or will I have to validate and remove them from the string?

Modules & VBA :: ADO - How To Delete Data From Only One Table From A Join

Dec 17, 2013

How to Delete data from only one table from a Join? OR How to set the ADO recordset unique table property?

On Access 2010 module I have a class that manipulate data (save, read, edit and delete) from this statement:

Code:
Private Const strNomeTblFonte as string = _
"SELECT ER.*, ET.intTipoExame, ET.txtNomeExame, FROM tblExamesTipos
ET INNER JOIN tblClientesExamesRequisitados ER ON ET.idExamesTipos = ER.intQualExame;"
Private Sub Class_Initialize()
Set mCol = New Collection

[Code] ....

Problem: I need to delete data from only one table (tblClientesExamesRequisitados) of a inner join, but only delete from the "wrong" (tblExamesTipos) table.

After going to msdn on title: Unique Table, Unique Schema, Unique Catalog Properties-Dynamic (ADO) I attempted to address the problem with this line in the Class_Initialize():

Code:
Recordset.Properties("Unique Table").Value = "tblClientesExamesRequisitados"

But only generates this: Run Time Error 3265 - Item not found in this collection...

I know, if I open another Rst and use a Distinctrow, or open only one table, as in "DELETE * FROM tblClientesExamesRequisitados WHERE intQualExame = " & miQualExame & ";" it will resolve, but, why "Unique Table" isn't functioning?

Queries :: ORDER BY - Update Values In One Table With The Values In Another Using Join

Sep 18, 2013

I have a query with an INNER JOIN and ORDER BY that is working great. Now, using the same JOIN, I need to update values in one table with the values in another. I thought it would be simple until I learned you can't do an ORDER BY with an UPDATE. Is there another way to achieve the same result? If you remove the 'ORDER BY', the statement below doesn't produce an error but the results are not correct:

UPDATE TableA INNER JOIN TableB ON (Left(TableA.CDN,6))=(TableB.CDN)
SET TableA.HCC = TableB.HCC
WHERE TableB.HCC Like '241*' AND TableB.BBB = 'X' AND TableA.CCC = "1234" AND TableA.HCC IS NOT NULL
ORDER BY TableB.HCC, TableA.CDN;

Join On Fractional Numbers/String?

Jul 6, 2006

Greetings all:

I have a database tracking customers and inventory, and I've tried to add in a feature where I can meet customers needs with future inventory. Key to this process is three tables:

tblCustomer - containing my customer information
tblInventory - with inventory data including a part number
tblNeeds - a table I've created for this purpose, containing CustomerID and Part Number.

Here's the premise: when speaking with a customer, I may learn they want a product I don't currently have in inventory, or may have never had in inventory, but that I may get in the future. I do this "on demand" in the form of a report, and it works really well ... except:

I have found that several similar products from the same supplier have similar product part numbers. What I would like to do is be able to match my query on a fractional part of the part number. In all cases, the part number would be the same over the first six characters (in a text field). Any ideas how I might do this? In my current query, I use a join, but I can't do that for fractional strings....

I've attached the query I am currently using (and running a bound report from this query):

SELECT DISTINCT tblCustomer.CustID, tblCustomer.CoName, tblInventory.ProductDescription, tblInventory.ProductPartNumber, tblInventory.UnitsAvailable, tblInventory.ProductID
FROM tblInventory INNER JOIN (tblCustomer INNER JOIN tblNeeds ON tblCustomer.CustID = tblNeeds.CustomerID) ON tblInventory.ProductPartNumber = tblNeeds.PartNo
WHERE (((tblInventory.UnitsAvailable)>0));

And what I want to do is match the tblInventory.ProductPartNumber on the tblNeeds.PartNo by matching only the first six characters....

Thanks in advance,

Don

INNER JOIN Based On Equivalent Values, Instead Of Equal Values

Nov 3, 2005

I'd like to create a query which will consist of simple SELECT statements as follows:

SELECT [table1].[field1], [table2].[field1], [table2].[field2]
FROM table1 INNER JOIN table2 ON ([table1].[fieldX] = [table2].[fieldX]);

The challenge arises b/c instead of joining on equal values, such as the following:
[table1] INNER JOIN [table2] ON [table1].[field1] = [table2].[field1]

I would like to join based on equivalencies, such as:
[table1] INNER JOIN [table2] ON [table1].[field1] = 34 is equivalent to [table2].[field1] = 2;

I do not know the proper syntax, so this is where I need help. I tried to search online without any success.

I appreciate your help in advance.

Modules & VBA :: Multiple Selection List / Comma Separated String - Run Query And Create Report

Jun 18, 2013

I'm using Access 2007.

So far I have a Multi Select enabled list on which the user selects the serial numbers they want. They then click the "Report" button which will trigger a query based on the selected serial numbers to create a report on those serial numbers.

I have the code for the multi-select list working already. It creates a string of comma separated values that are the serial numbers which are selected in the list. Somehow I need to pass this string to my query so it can use it as a filter.

Here is some of my code:

Code:
Option Compare Database
Option Explicit
Private Sub Form_Current()
Dim oItem As Variant
Dim bFound As Boolean

[Code] ....

Here's my current query in SQL:

Then finally how to I get the query to execute and create a report based on all of this?

Modules & VBA :: ApplyFilter With Boolean And String Data?

Nov 14, 2013

I have a form used to gather data around some supplier details, and we have a review check box with Boolean data. I'm trying to establish a filter button to filter un-checked boxes by specific suppliers from a drop-down list.

Although I've been able to run filters on suppliers and the review checks separately, together I get a "Type Mismatch" error. I thought it might be because of the Boolean data type, so I tried converting that to String but get the same issue.

So far what I've created is this:

Code:

Dim Chk1 As String
Chk1 = CStr([RevChk])
DoCmd.ApplyFilter , (" Chk1 = " & Chr(34) & 0 & Chr(34) & "") And (" [Supplier Name] = " & Chr(34) & txtSupplSearch & Chr(34) & "")

Queries :: Create Join Using LEFT String Manipulation

Apr 28, 2015

I think I know the answer but want to check. I've been asked to create a query, without querying a query first, but it's the only way I know.

I have two tables

Table1 will have data in a column that is 9 characters long
ULCABC123
ULCABC124
ULCABC125
PLTABC123
PLTABC124

Table2 will have data in a column that is 6 characters long
ULCABC
PLTABC

Question: Can I create a Join from Table2 Field with the Left(Field,6) from Table1

I was thinking something like this. (but then I can't enter design mode)
Query1 - Test

Code:
SELECT Table2.ORDDETTYPE, Table2.DESCRIPTION
FROM Table2 INNER JOIN Table1 ON Table2.ORDDETTYPE = Left(Table1.ORDERDET,6)
GROUP BY Table2.ORDDETTYPE, Table2.DESCRIPTION;

I presume the only way to do this is first query Table1 (and call Query2) and return the first 6 characters and the create another query (Query3 in this case) using Query2 field joined with Table2 field.

Query2

Code:
SELECT Left([ORDERDET],6) AS NEWORDDET
FROM Table1;

Query3

Code:
SELECT Table2.ORDDETTYPE, Table2.DESCRIPTION
FROM Query2 INNER JOIN Table2 ON Query2.[NEWORDDET] = Table2.ORDDETTYPE
GROUP BY Table2.ORDDETTYPE, Table2.DESCRIPTION;

Queries :: Returning Set Of Numbers From Custom Formatted String - Incorrect Use Of Join?

Mar 20, 2015

I suspect my design is flawed

Code:
SELECT tblData2.Prefix, tblData2.LineNum, tblData2.Year, tblComments.comment, tblComments.Address
FROM tblData2 LEFT JOIN tblComments ON tblData2.LineNum = (NumbersOnly([tblComments].[Address])
WHERE (((tblData2.MyYear)<1990))
ORDER BY tblData2.LineNum;

The NumbersOnly function returns a set of numbers from a custom formatted string. The above fails on the join (I think) but maybe there's another way of doing it?

Reports :: Track Data Changes - Highlight Modified Values

Jan 22, 2015

I'm building a report which should highlight/change text color in field values in a modified table which have changed relative to field values in an original table. I'm using the same conditional formatting on all my fields: e.g. on the field named [Primary Instructor] in the report on the modified table, I have "Value <> Reports![F2015original]![Primary Instructor]", where I reference an identical report on the original table. Both are loaded.

My problem: it's reading all values as changed/different, even when both visual inspection and copy/paste indicate that the values are identical. Thus my report highlights all values for the field, rather than only those which have changed. The reports have identical non-conditional formatting and data type.
