Modules & VBA :: Populating Unbound Textboxes With Data From A Table
Aug 7, 2014
I want to know a way of populating unbound textboxes with data from a table without using the easy assigning data in the property of the box. I want it to be all done with code, which to me isnt a huge deal but I've yet to find answers on the web pertaining to this issue.
for example:
Say i was searching a primary key in one box and based on what ever is typed in i'd like it to populate the rest of the textboxes.
There are hyperlinks throughout the database as well as a few lines of code that reference network locations that could change 1-2 years down the line. What I need to do is build a "housekeeping" form that is password protected where users can edit those hyperlinks via text-boxes. My problem is I'm not sure where to store the the data from the text-boxes to make it persistent. Making a table for the hyperlinks seems to be the wrong approach but I could be wrong.
When a user selects a name from a combo box then 11 textboxes are populated with personal information.
What I am looking for is when the user edits the persons information (i.e. changes the persons phone number to a different number), how do I update the table with this information?
Is there a way to only update fields that have changed? or do I have to save all textboxes?
I have read about an "Update Query" and a SQL Update, but I did not think the two applied. I am sure that I am wrong, lol.
I tried the "Docmd.Runcommand acCmdSave (in the OnClick event cmd button) but it did not make any changes to the table.
This is what I put in the OnClick event:
Code: Private Sub cmdSaveEdit_Click() DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdSave TextBoxLockDown Me.Requery End Sub
I'm trying to populate a listbox from a recordset. I will explain what I'm trying to achieve.
I have a (continuous) form with some data from a table. On the form header I have a listbox, showing all (distinct) customers from that form.
The user is able to do some filtering. That all works great. But I want to populate the listbox with ONLY the customers on the form AFTER filtering.
One way I thought might me the solution was using RecordClone. But I'm stuck there. It must be something simple for an expert. I'm not entirely a newbie, at least not to VBA. Is there an easy way to refer the listbox' recordset to the actual recordset on the form?
I have a customers form, on which i have a textbox to allow the user to search and show a record by surname. I have got it working, but i do not know how to accomodate the possibility that there might be two members with the same surname, e.g. Smith.(the PK is member ID)here is the code:Private Sub cmdSearch_Click() Dim strMemberRef As String Dim strSearch As String 'Check txtSearch for Null value or Nill Entry first. If IsNull(Me![txtSearch]) Or (Me![txtSearch]) = "" Then MsgBox "Please enter a value!", vbOKOnly, "Invalid Search Criterion!" Me![txtSearch].SetFocus Exit SubEnd If 'Performs the search using value entered into txtSearch'and checks this against values in strStudentID DoCmd.ShowAllRecords DoCmd.GoToControl ("Surname") DoCmd.FindRecord Me!txtSearch Surname.SetFocus strMemberRef = Surname.Text txtSearch.SetFocus strSearch = txtSearch.Text 'If matching record found sets focus in strStudentID and shows msgbox'and clears search control If strMemberRef = strSearch Then MsgBox "Match Found For: " & strSearch, , "Record Found" Surname.SetFocus txtSearch = "" 'If value not found sets focus back to txtSearch and shows msgbox Else MsgBox "Match Not Found For: " & strSearch & " - Please Try Again.", _ , "Invalid Search Criterion!" txtSearch.SetFocus End IfEnd SubCan anyone shed some light as to what I should do? Im looking to have a next button or something to show the rest of the records, or have the search button change to say next if there are more records.Thanks in advance
I have a form and I am not sure of the best way to populate the multiple fields on it.
The form consists of a textbox to select a date (txtDate) and then once this date is selected I want the multiple textboxes on the form to be populated from data I have in a table.
The name of each textbox is a concatenation of "txt" the number of the person which is a number from 1 to 4 and then a time eg for 12 Noon it would be 1200 so the textboxes are from txt10800 to txt42000 i.e. each person has textboxes from 8.00am to 8.00pm in half hour intervals.
I need to use two tables to populate these textboxes as in the main table there are codes that have a relationship to fields within another table that holds attributes for that code. (eg code 123 could equal Service A in the second Table but 123 is what is held on the main table) Also in the main table I have a calculated field that creates the name of the relevant textboxes on the form.
If there is a textbox that will not be populated as there is nothing in that time period then I would like this to be left blank or Null.
Am I best creating a query and binding the form to this query or to leave it unbounded and use a recordset within VBA
hey all i was wondering, can a unbound text box be a bound textbox. I have just noticed that my unbound text box doesnt not save in the field in my table, that is because it is unboune right? but i need it to save to my table, and i guees the only way to do that is to save in in the save button right? thanks

I am creating an Access program for logging in Parcels that are delivered and I am having some problems.
I have a Table called 'Contacts' and within this there are 4 Columns: 'Names', 'Departments', 'Extensions' and 'Emails'.
I also have a Form and there is 1 Combobox and 3 Textboxes relating to this Table: 'Addressed To', 'Department', 'Ext Number' & 'Email'. (see http://c0ld.homeip.net/parcel_log.jpg for details).
What I would like to do is select the Name from the Combobox (Addressed To) and the have the other Textboxes (Department, Ext Number & Email) get auto-filled with the corresponding data that’s within the Table for that Name.
If anyone would like the .mdb for this, please PM me.
I need to make one database with information about torque values according to one defined table. I make 3N so I can avoid duplicating data, by my problem now is how to enter data into the related tables and save the data using a save button. I want to have control about when data is saved that is the reason because I used unbound controls to enter data and I want to use also a new button to add new records.
I am trying to populate fields from one table into another field in a linked table. Specifically, I have a giving table and a persons table. I have the giving table have the persons primary ID field in the giving table. I cannot seem to automatically link them if I am adding a "gift" record. The gift is a dollar amount given by that person. I have a unique primary key for each financial contribution which is supposed to be tied to a person's primary key and last name in my "person" table. Am I missing something in this design?
I am generating a report from my database that I would like to turn into an invoice. My report generates perfectly, but I need to add an invoice number when I print the report and I need to take the data Customer ID, Invoice Total, and a maybe other data from the report and populate the Invoice Record table. I have VB code that is generating my Invoice No, creating a new record in the Invoice Record table and populating the Invoice Record Table with the Invoice number. I want to add this Invoice No to my report at time of printing, and populate the Invoice Record Table with the fields from the report as stated above.
Hi all ... been awhile since I have had to create a database so I have gotten a little rusty. :eek: I have a form where some of the fields I have formulated to calculate an amount. Example... =[GrossAmt]*[FeePercent] This is calculating into the form correctly but not writing to my table for that field. What am I doing wrong or missing here?
I have a client table with a field called location. On a reports form that I have, I want to make a combobox for all of the locations, so it could show all the clients from a particular location and also it would reduce the errors due to someone spelling a place name wrong. I could set the source to the location field in the table, but that would show them all in the order they come out and there would be duplicates.
I'm trying to create a temp table, which is populated by a string, (taken from a recordset).
My problem is incorporating the String into the SQL statment, and making it work,
What I'm trying to do is to create a temp table, and populate it with the first record of the recordset, (which is an e-mail address).
(The recordset and the strings work fine). It's the SQL statement which doesn't work.
Here's the code I have :
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Set DBS = CurrentDb Set RST = DBS.OpenRecordset("SELECT Contact FROM Contacts_to_be_Mailed") Dim My_Count As Long Dim ContactString As String
RST.MoveFirst ContactString = RST(0)
Dim strTable As String strTable = "TempContact" DoCmd.RunSQL "INSERT * INTO " & strTable & " FROM ContactString "
I have a form with a Listbox which lists Customers and a variety of customer information
I also have a table on the form that lists the donations that customers have made.
How can I populate the Table based on the customer that is selected in the Listbox?
There is an ID field that links Customers with Donations
I'm guessing I need some code in the ListBox_CLick() event that triggers the table to query or to Load with a query based on the ListBox.Column(0) which contains the ID?
I am trying to create the form so when the first field (Start Date) has a date selected, it limits the following field (Report Date) to the matching available data, and same with the third field (Production Division) on the previous two.
I also need the form to allow new dates / production division combinations, but not duplicate.
I starting working with a cascade function but got confused and not sure if that is where I should be headed.
I have attached 2 different formats of the same sample data.
I am trying to setup a database in order to demonstrate a tie in between active directory and the HR side of a business.As such, I would like to select two fields from drop down menus that reference in Department and Location tables, but use this data to actually Populate the Personnel Records table rather than Query.I know this is not normally best practice from a DBA perspective.
I have this setup already in Filemaker, just through using relationships.However, I want to move to Access, as it is more industry standard and much lighter weight, so am trying to find the best way.I have attached two pics of my filemaker database, and a zipped copy of my Access file.
So I have this code in an afterupdate event in an unbound text box to update the value of a table if the textbox is updated:
Code:
Private Sub txtCustRepID_AfterUpdate() 'Go to Calls table and find original value for CustRepID 'Fin the Call ID first Dim CallIDVar As Long Dim ContactIDVar As Long Dim CustRepIDOr As String CallIDVar = Forms![Contacts]![Call Listing Subform].Form![CallID]
[code]...
This code works well when entering numbers in the text box but it returns error 3061; "Too few parameters. Expected 1" when along with the numbers there is a letter in the textbox.The error happens in this part of the code:
Code: 'Accept change and add new value to table CurrentDb.Execute _ "UPDATE Calls " & _ "SET CustRepID = " & CustRepIDNew & " " & _ "WHERE CallID = " & CallIDVar, dbFailOnError
The underlying table has text as type of data for this field.
While the form itself is bound to tbl_Orders I decided to use unbound text boxes to enter the data (knowing I was in for some work!). Reason is that if textboxes were bound would need to use a subform with multiple combo boxes and that UI did not seem suitable for the application.
I’ve completed the code to add new records to tbl_Orders and tbl_Junction from the unbound textboxes. I'm using the VBA .AddNew method and is working well. Now I need to integrate code that will allow users to edit existing records while they are viewing them on the form.
I have the code to look up the record set I want to edit in tbl_Junction and am familiar with the .Edit method but the issue is that the required changes MAY include not just editing existing records but also deleting and adding new records. For example, the initial order may have been for Apples and Oranges and the revised order may change the number of Apples, eliminate Oranges entirely, and add some Bananas. So, it seems I need to .Edit Apples, .Delete Oranges, and .AddNew Bananas?
Should I try to write code to determine where I need to .Edit/.AddNew/.Delete? -- not looking forward to that. Thought maybe could delete the entire junction record set and then just .AddNew for everything per the revised order. That should work as the display on the form would be correct for the whole order. But maybe would cause a problem as would remove the FK in tbl_Junction that corresponds to the PK in tbl_Orders?
I've tried using the vba to have unbound forms information pasted to a table. The Vendor, Channel and Department are unbound fields in the form and I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to get them to append to the table.
I've tried using solutions provided prior but I must be missing something. Here's my database. I'd like for it to append to the table then ready the form for the next entry.
I am working on a timesheet application which allows users to insert multiple timesheet entries in a grid style format. the first row is visible and to add another row users click on a command button which makes the next row of fields available and ready to fill in and so on and so forth. I need the fields to be unbound and then when the user clicks on a save button for example then it inserts those values into the relevant table. Table name is tbltimesheet, field names are id, companyname, project, activitydate, activityhours, activitynotes, username, userid
I have created a forum that all fields are unbound. On completing it is written to the table using a RunSQL command. This writes to the table with no problem but when it does so it is creating another entry with zero content. This is the save steps with open new form
Code: Private Sub SaveRecordAddNew_Click() Call PreSaveCheck If Me.saveCheck = False Then Exit Sub Else Call WriteToTable
I have an unbound form in which a user enters data relating to a credit dispute, and when they hit the Save button I have a sub that is intended to insert that data into a table. This is a bit out of my comfort zone, so I found some code from another forum and adjusted it to my needs. However, I'm getting errors.
The table name is tbl_complaints. The fields from the form are:
Private Sub cmdSave_Click() Dim StrSql As String On Error GoTo ErrorHandler StrSql = "INSERT INTO tbl_complaints " _ & "(ACCT_NUMBER, CLIENT_NAME, EOSCAR_TYPE, EOSCAR_CONTROL_NUMBER, METHOD_OF_RECEIPT,
[Code] ....
The error I get is error number 3075, and it says I'm missing an operator in the section that references cboResponseType, but I can't seem to figure out what I'm missing. My head is spinning from staring at these parentheses and apostrophes for so long.
There are 4 unbound dropdown list box that will have a default value of empty string. All 4 must have values entered (data is required).Once all 4 are required - the bottom 5 text box will become enabled (optional data).Forcing the user to click on a Validation Button
Some users type then use the mouse to select the next.Other users type to select then tab.The trick is: After filling in the 4th listbox and validating all 4 have values, the event must trigger code to enable the 5 optional text boxes below.This provides a seamless data entry environment.
I have been doing this in other places, but the transisition after the last required field is complete gets ugly.If Trim(cmbBoxname1 & "") = vbNullString ' check all 4..If it is the 4th one, the event seems not to happen quick enough for the bottom 5 text boxes to be enabled so the user can continue with data entry.
