Moving Database - How To Change Path To New Location
Jan 10, 2013
I am new to Microsoft access. I have a database moved from another computer. it is split into the backend and the front end..
However, when i click on the forms in the front end, I get an error message. It is trying to use a path from the old computer, to the database, but its on a different computer.
So, this brings me to my question, how do i change the path, to the new location

In the access form I want to add a button with a special functionality.
After clicking "Select file" button special window should be open (or something else). It should give user a possibility of files locating (doc, pdf, rtf, txt ...).
After selecting the file and confirm the choice in the table "File_location" in database path to the file should be saved .

I use Access 2013, and have an Access Database in which one of my Tables is linked to a SharePoint site (SharePoint 2010). The database is in my computer, but I will be required to shift it into another computer onto a network drive. I want to know if doing this will affect the table's link or data exchange between the table and its linked list on SharePoint

There is probably an easy answer to this but I can't find an exact answer searching.
I have an Access 2000 database with the back end stored in a separate location. If I want to move the back end data file to a different location on the computer, how do I change the link (file path)?
The only way I can figure out is to delete all of the old links and relink them from their new location.
Isn't there somewhere that you can just change the path name to the entire back end in one easy step?
Thanks for any help.

I am using this code
DoCmd.OutputTo acOutputReport, "rptFilter", "Excel97-Excel2003Workbook(*.xls)", strFilename, True, "", , acExportQualityScreen
With the OutputFile set to "" so the user can select the directory on where they want to store the exported template. I'm trying to figure out if I could get the file path and the file name and store it on a string so I could use it for something else.

I have used Transfer text cmd to export query to text in MS access. This works fine. path= "D:/test/"DoCmd.TransferText acExportFixed,"Query1",path,False But i need to change the path dyanmically as my wish when i run this query. Like i may save my txt in desktop or C: or D:. I dont want to hard code path as above.
Is there any way to achieve this? If i get the dyanmic location stored in path variable i can achieve it. But i dont know how to achieve this.
Actually i was confused
Docmd.OutputTo acOutputQuery,query1
Above query prompts me for selecting location. But transferText doesn't? why?
As this application is stored on server. If i give a static path, its exporting in Server D:/test/ But i need this to be stored in my local. This can be done only if it prompts box for user to select the location.

I have a field named Location of type Hyperlink. I have copied the respective filepaths in those location column.The location filed looks like
M:New1234.pdf
M:New1111.pdf
M:New2222pdf
M:New4444pdf
If the user clicks on this link then the respective file should be open..I don't want the front end users to see the entire path. So, I would like to have the names as 1234.pdf in the location column instead of M:New1234.pdf. Is it possible to hide the entire path in the backend and show only the name of the file. so that if users click on 1234.pdf then the file needs to open.

Hello,
I have almost ultimate my database which works with forms that export their data to word documents.
The code behind the forms indicates that path to which it will find the word documents.
As I will be sharing my program with several offices, I will need that each Office will have to change the path based on their server name.
Examples of path: \ABC123shared emplatesmydoc.dot
Is there a way each office or better on person which will be the database administrator can change the ABC123 in all forms without having to open each one in design view and manually make the change?
I was thinking of some kind of text box where to write the path and a cmd that will do it for us.
Appreciate any help. Thanks.

I have an inventory of equipment that is assigned to different locations. When repair is needed, the equipment is brought in and swapped with a loaner. How can I update on a form the location change from "A" to "Shop" that will show up on the related equipment table? I have "Location" in the table, but don't know if I need something to the effect of "NewLocation" to assist in showing the equipment swap.

Hello. I've searched and read a few threads concerning image controls on forms and haven't been able to find a solution to my problem (yet). Anyway, I have a form with two image controls (imgOK1 & imgOK2). The previous and current setting of the "Picture" property for both images is set to "C:MOMGraphicsfilename.bmp". The location of my images has changed and will change for each user which is "C:Documents and Settingsuser.nameMOMGraphicsfilename.bmp". I'm using the following code to set the .Picture property on form load:
Dim ImgPath
ImgPath = "C:Documents and Settings" & Environ("username") & "My DocumentsMOMGraphics"
Me.imgOK1.Picture = ImgPath & "imgButton-OK1_25%.bmp"
Me.imgOK2.Picture = ImgPath & "imgButton-OK2_25%.bmp"
When the form is opened, an error stating that the image located at "C:MOMGraphicsfilename.bmp" cannot be found; once for each image control. Then the form loads and .Picture properties appear to be set correctly as they are displayed fine. I've tried to clear the .Picture properties for both image controls using the properties editor but the original path returns as soon as the property loses focus. Is there a way to programatically set this property and make it stick so the errors are not displayed?

I've created a form. Within that form I have an image control. I am using this code to pull the corresponding plant image from a folder filled with JPGs.
It works just fine except one thing. When I change from record to record my cursor jumps to the center of the pulled JPG. I don't want my cursor to move at all when loading these images. Is this possible? Thanks.
Private Sub Form_Current()
Dim FileExistsbol As Boolean
Dim stFileName As String
stFileName = CurrentProject.Path & "- Landscaping Material Images" & _
[LandscapeCommonName] & ".jpg"
stFileName = Trim(stFileName)
FileExistsbol = Dir(stFileName) <> vbNullString
If FileExistsbol Then
[LandscapeMaterialImage].Visible = True
Me![LandscapeMaterialImage].Picture = stFileName
[LabelNoPictureAvailable].Visible = False
Else
[LandscapeMaterialImage].Visible = False
[LabelNoPictureAvailable].Visible = True
End If

how to stop this error from occuring. "Potential Security Concern" I get this everytime a query runs that is creating a file for exporting. The database is in a trusted location, the query is a make table query if that makes a difference.

In the past I have only done data input into Access databases that have already been created. They have been simple text fields only. I was hired on contract to finish data input for a database that serves to catalogue material resources. The database itself was supposed to have been completed by a former contractor but I'm discovering bits and pieces that weren't finished. I don't have any background in IT or coding.
So, this database eventually has to be shared in a "locked" format so that other entities can view our resources (like a catalogue) without changing them. My next step is to add images to each of the items being catalogued (there are about 100 images). The former contractor began a table labeled "Pictures" in which there are 2 columns: PictureID and PicturePath, the latter being a path starting with C:. The issue is, his picture paths include the hard drive name so that it looks like this:C:HardDrivePicturesPictureID.jpg
I need the database and its images to be share-able on other computers. And I need to use relative paths to connect the images to the database so I'm not tremendously increasing the size of the database.does the location/path of the database need to be changed so it can be shared, and if so how do I do that?
Second question: I have all the images I will be using in a folder on my desktop; how do I save them in a "fixed subdirectory" of the database so that they get moved with it whenever it is sent out to another user?
If I change the database name as I'm working on it (I've been saving a new database each day, so that if I screw up something I can go back to the most recent working one) will that mess up my picture paths?

I've got a database with several users and we've had two people recently who rather than creating a shortcut to the db on their desktop copied it and then proceeded to enter their data there instead of into the one on the network.
I would like to be able to add a field on the first page they see when they open it with the complete file name / path information. I know how to do it in Word by adding a field to a header or footer. However, I can't seem to figure out how to do it in Access.
My hope is that if I can display the path and then include a dialog box when the database is opened warning users to verify they have the correct version before they enter any information.
Alternatively, is there a script I could write that would have the db check that it's the V drive copy not a C drive copy?
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am using Access 2010 in a split database. The intent is to place the back end and associated linked files on a server and the front end on work stations for each user. The typical user will just be searching for information in the database not altering it. My current code re-links the tables once the path is known i.e. I have to hard code it into the global constant. Is there a way in VBA or utilizing VBA to read/write to an ini file (for example) that the UNC path would automatically be updated to a global constant in my current code that can be updated automatically based on where the back end is installed.
Global Const BE_DATABASE = "192.168.2.3FMCENFMCTABLES.accdb"
Global Const BE_PASSWORD = "***********"
Global Const BE_DATABASEPATH = "192.168.2.3FMC" 'used to open files
Public Sub CreateDatabaseLinks()
On Error Resume Next 'new
Dim ws As DAO.Workspace
Dim db As DAO.Database
Dim td As DAO.TableDef
[code]...

Hi All,
I have been trying to figure this out for ages but I cant seem to get the code right or find any info on it.
In my database i have a mail merge on a button click which creates a new merged word document. I then need a way of when the user saves the document in word, bringing back the file path and putting it in a table called tblHistory with the correct customer ID in there too.
Any help appreciated
Thanks

I am attempting to split an Access 2007 database. My company has two locations. From my location we are remote connecting into the server. While down there they are connecting directly. When I split the database, people in my location can use it fine. When people down there use it, they get a not valid path error.
This is because the network drives are mapped differently. I have been reading that the solution is to use the UNC for the back end file path.

I have a database that I've created for someone else to use. It's split into a front and back end. The user will be placing the front end on her desktop PC and the back end on a network server.
She also will be taking the database home to use from time to time. My problem is that when the database is split, upon opening, it looks for the back end on the network drive, which is unavailable when she's away from the office.
Is there a way to tell the Access to look in a directory relative to the one it's in?

Howdy,
I have created a few split multiuser databases in Access 97 that my company has used over the past few years. Currently, we are trying to move everything to a new network server. When I did a simple copy and paste on Friday moving everything to the other server it seemed to work fine. Until I tried to open any of the databases. I kept getting the message that they all were read only.
Do I need to bring the database back together before transferring it? I also plan on converting the databases to Access 2003. What precautions should I take in doing this?
Thanks for any and all information you can pass along.
