Moving to new computer, both under Win XP pro, Access 2003. New computer is MacBook Air running Parallels. Transferred Access database via an external hard drive. Now the data shows up as Read Only. Is there a procedure to run down the cause and make the data accessible?
View RepliesI'm using Access 2007 which I built a database that runs queries off of tables using ODBC. The database is all done in ms access, I've used no visual basic programing on it. I'm now trying to move a copy of the database to another computer's local drive in the office. When we try to open it on the other computer it gives me an error that says "There was a problem sending the command to the program" and Access hangs, which I then have to run task manager to end the program.
Specs Are: Windows 7 64bit (the db was created on Windows 7 32bit)

I am currently upgrading to win 2003 servers. When I open an access 2000 database on the server I get a read only warning.
I have check all the permissions to allow the users access, but the warning remains.
I do not have the problem with any other documents on the server.
If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate a response.
Attached is a screenshot of the relationships in a database I built a couple of years ago. It's worked absolutely fine in Access 2003 and currently has over 18,000 customers with associated information in it.
However, when I open the database in Access 2007 the performance is awful. All the forms are very slow to respond when tabbing between form elements. I've experimented by reducing the number of form elements calling on related data on a given page and whilst this improves performance it reduces usability - something I don't want to compromise on especially since Access 2007 should be able to cope with this.
My next question is therefore whether I've got the most efficient underlying table design and I can't see any other way of doing it than my current method so I'd be grateful for any feedback or advice anyone has.
I have a search form built that depending on the dropdown selection on the form, it will run a query to SQL Server 2008 and provide data. There are 5 SQL Server db's so there are 5 different queries. I have each SQL Server linked to the Access DB. When I moved to someones else's computer I got a ODBC Call Failed message. In order to fix this, I had to recreate the links on that person's machine, then change the SQL code in the query with the new name of the linked DB.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a database built using Microsoft Access 97-SR2. I want to copy it to another computer (my office computer). I was successful in burning the file to a CD-R disc. However, when I run the database from the disc, a message appears saying its READ ONLY-it apparently makes it Read Only automatically. I want to be able to change and edit the data and the controls, ie. forms, reports, etc. on the other computer. How can I transfer the database my other computer, without it becoming Read Only?

I have read only access to a database maintained by a vendor. I am using an append query to search for new records in that database every time my database opens through a macro. This adds any new records to my table. I then add additional information to each record in my table. This is newly acquired information, not calculated, and it is different for each record.
My question is can I keep my table up to date with the vendor table without running the append query macro at open every time as my database may remain open for extended periods of time during updating of records.
How do you make an Access database able to have records written to it (NOT read only)?

But when I send data from a html form to the database I get an OLE DB error. (I am using ADO). I can't remember the message exactly but it was something like

1. ODBC administrator deleting and creating a fresh System DSN, checked if there Read-Only wasn't marked on.
2. Deleted my browser cache.
3. Restarted computer several times again
4. Installed MDAC 2.8 again.
btw. I have created the table with MS Access XP and i am using Windows XP.

Currently I have an Access dB that was developed in A2003 but we are currently using A2010, it is accessed by multiple users that all have a frontend locally on there own networked PC's, with the backends etc on an old NT server, we are having problems with new technology accessing the NT server so it's well past time we got shut of it
We have a share on our network that has been made available to us to migrate all our NT server files to, Here's my problem, on testing the procedure I copied the database backend and .mdw file over to the share then tried to open the dB where upon i got the following error message
Cannot open microsoft Access database information file
On further investigation it seems that both the back end and the .mdw file have copied over with no content i.e filesize is 0kB, not only that the originals also seem to have had there content "deleted" a simple copy shouldn't have done this (I did have a backup btw)
I have an access database and some asp-code on my computer which only works one way?

I have had a split data base (version 2000) running on Windows 2000 with no problems. Our office has upgraded the computers to Windows XP Professional Version 2002 and Office Access 2003. I cut the links to the backend and imported the tables back into the 2000 version. I then moved the data base over to the XP machines and everything worked great. I then split the data base and every event results in debug mode. I believe it has something to do with the References but maybe not. If so, what do I need to put in, or take out? Please help. I can provide any information you need.

My access database's tables are currently linked to an excel document. My question is, how do I move my database to the network? Currently when I move the the database to the network no one can open my tables because the link goes to my documents on my computer which they can't access on the network.
So how do I move the database and maintain the link between the database and my tables?

:) I am creating a program in VB.NET with an access 2003 database. This program will be in 2 physical locations. This is a program that sells tickets. At the end of the day I need to be able to get that days sales data off the remote location and update the main location with that information. This will be sales totals only. The user will plug in a thumb drive to move the data from one machine to the other. Due to the physical layout and other considerations this is the best option. The only action I want the user to have to do is to place the thumb drive in the USB port and hit the “down load” button. Then on the main location the user should be able to just plug in the thumb drive and hit up load. The database needs to be updated with the data from the remote location. What is the best way to do this?

Whatever I try: //MsgId or MsgId the results is "No nodes". How to read to XML.
Besides reading one node, the next challenge will be iterating the PmtInf node. There can be 1 in the XML file but also 50.

i have two tables named hydraulics and mechanics. i want to read the data "reliablility" from table "hydraulics" and "reliablility" from "mechanics". and then i want to multiply these values and show in a newly created table as "results".

- the (A) application is for administration use.
- the (B) application is for normal users use.
the idea is that: I made the (A) application for administrators who have full control over the database objects (tables, forms, queries, and so on ...).
the (B) application I have created for normal users who will have only to use forms to insert some data and display data only.
but the two applications has a respective table called "vacation request" table. where I linked them, so the both administrators and users can share the data.
The real question is that: How can I prevent the users from seeing the database objects in their application. I used the database options which have helped me in hidding the database objectives when the users open the application, but unfortunately they managed to access to the database objects by pressing the special keys.
I would like to have an access to the (B) application when I want to make some modifications to the forms and then lock it from users where they only have to use the forms for requesting vacations and view the vacations.
How can I import data from excel to access, i have a huge file more then 5000 entries in there....
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been asked to look into fixing a permissions problem with a database. The company has been in the process of updating the OS on our computers.
The database in question is stored on a shared network drive. It opens fine on a windows XP machine running Access 2003 but when the same user tries to open the database from windows 7 using access 2010, the message: "You do not have the necessary permissions to use the '<file path>' object. Have your system administrator or the person who created this object establish the appropriate permissions for you."
I have a Front-End Access Data Project file (ADE compiled format for distribution) that I purposely have the Read-Only file attribute set to True.
I've been using it this way for about 7 years starting with Access 97 and the current version is 2000.
I am upgrading the app to 2003 now and everything with the conversion is fine except when I set the Read-Only file attribute to True it all of a sudden when starting it no longer connects to the Back-End (sql server) and displays a "form load cancelled" error before hanging.
If I disable the Read-Only attribute, everything is fine again, but I prefere not to do this because that will require me to rework my auto updater.
I use it this way because it prevents bloating of the file and allows for my auto updater to determine new version by using the file modification date.
Any Idea's?
i am trying to use access 2000 database onto to access 2003. When i try to click design mode to change something it gives me this message:
You dont have permissions to modify.
If i run it on access 2000 it runs fine.

A few years ago I’ve made an access database on access 2000. The problem is that now I’ve installed the office 2003, and I can’t make the database work properly.
At first says that are missing those files: “tshoot.ocx”, “msioff9.ocx” and “msowc.dll”; so, I’ve copy them from another computer using office 2000 and now only complains about “msioff9.ocx” saying that my database contains a reference incomplete to it.
Is there no other way to convert my database do work properly with access 2003? What can I do?
