I have an Access table with transactions that were entered in random order. I need to recreate the table with those transactions entered in date order. I started by making a copy of the table (table structure only) then creating an Append Query sorted by the date field thinking that the records would be appended in the order created by the query. It did not work as I wanted. My next technique was to use VBA code to open a recordset that was created with the following SQL statement:
strSQL = "SELECT * FROM tablename ORDER BY datefield" & ";" Set rst1 = db.OpenRecordset(strSQL)
The compile hung up, apparently not liking something about the SQL statement. I have done these things many times before during the last 15 years of using Access. I am about to shoot my computer.
I've accomplished some simpler things like hiding fields based on the data in another field but nothing very complex. To the point: I have a report that shows data in both rows and columns, the report has a 7 columns, 3 of which could or could not contain data other than zero, in which case the column is not displayed. The problem I have is that it could be any of those three at any given time depending on what data is available for that report and what the user wants to see. Basically, if a given company has no data regarding column "A", then column A is hidden, but the main grouping is done through rows so all companies contain at least 0 for all columns (what I did is that, if a field sums the whole column returns 0, then the column is not visible). What I need to get working is the second part of this, have the columns rearrange themselves depending on which column is hidden (it could be that all 3 are hidden). How could I make this work? (btw, autoshrink is not usefull for this since it only shrinks vertically, not horizontally).
Code: SELECT [score_admit] / SELECT [score_discharge] AS Ratio, facility_type FROM tbl_test group by facility_type;
It's really just based on one table, but what I'm trying to do is to calculate the ratio for the scores, then arrange the result based on facility types.
The error I get is a syntax error the SELECT statements.
Here is what I am trying to do. I have a query with 2 fields. "Time In" & "Time Out". What I would like to happen is this. Whenever a character, let's say a "t", is entered into that field I would like the current time to populate that field. Right now we are actually typing in the time. I have the fields set up as DateTime fields currently.
I have created a query using the query builder by concatenationg several fields using the expression builder. Once concatenated, the total number of characters is greater than 255, and is therefore truncated. Since this is a query field and not a table field, there must be a way around this limitation. I can't even create the query and dump the results into a memo field because the dump will still only contain 255 char.
I could probably create the query using VBA, which creates a table containg a memo field, which is then populated by a variable containing the concatenated fields, but I would like a simpler solution.
Any ideas on how I can generate a query field that contains more than 255 char? The query is used to populate a report.
I do have the following problem, and - please do tell me- if I don't see the obvious.
I changed to Office 2007 and am busy changing an Access Application. In the course of that, I included some .gif files in an attachment field, which were hitherto stored in external files and loaded when required for display.
Say we have a company table (OPR_Operator) and a country table (GEO_Country). The country table has a country flag (Field GEO_Country.Flat) as attachment file.
If I create the following query:
SELECT OPR_Operator.OPID, OPR_Operator.Operator, OPR_Operator.Country, GEO_Country.CountryName, GEO_Country.Flag FROM OPR_Operator INNER JOIN GEO_Country ON OPR_Operator.Country = GEO_Country.CountryCode;
I can edit existing records in a form without any problem. If I change e.g. the Country field in OPR_Operator, the new flag is displayed.
The problem occurs, when I want to add a new record. No way to do that. As soon as I enter the Country, I get the following error message:
The current field must match the join key '?' that serves as the one side of one-to-many relationship. Enter a record in the "one" side table with the desired key value, and then make the entry with the desired join field in the "many-only" table.
I appreciate that this reads like a beginner's error. The funny thing, though is, that I entered a country code, which DOES exist in the GEO_Country table.
Using Access 2010: I have a query with four fields: ORG_NAME, PERS_NAME_LAST, CountOfORG_NAME, and BdMbrCount. There are a couple hundred companies in the database with 1-7 people associated with each company. I need to number each person so that they have a number, 1-7 in the MemberCount field of my query.
I have my query connected to VBA code.
I have experimented with code that I have found on the forum, just to see if I could get something to work and I am getting “Undefined function ‘BdMbrCount’ in expression. I am trying to pass [ORG_NAME],[PERS_NAME_LAST] to my function and assign the value of BdMbrCount to a new field in my query, BdMbrCount.
Code: Function BdMbrNumber() Dim qdf As DAO.QueryDef Set qdf = CurrentDb.QueryDefs("YourBdMbrsRRecognizedQry") 'Set rst = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("SELECT [ORG_Name],[PERS_NAME_LAST],[CountofORG_NAME], [BdMbrCount] FROM YourBdMbrsRRecognizedQry") Dim ORG_NAME As String
I have a table that has one field and I want to use this field as a query criteria . when i click on CRITERIA & BUILD, Access lets me select the table field and shows [tblBillRun]![Bill_Run] for the criteria but when I click RUN, it prompts me to ENTER PARAMETER VALUE. What am i doing wrong?
I have a simple calculated field (As "Ratio") that is readable in Access 2010 query, but crashes in Excel upon importing/running the query in an .xlsx table.
ERROR MESSAGE in EXCEL: "The query did not run, or the database table could not be opened...check database server..contact your database administrator.."
I am simply taking the cost amounts of each project record (shown as "Record Cost") and dividing it by the "Total Cost" of that project to render "Ratio".
The Total Cost is retrieved from another table.
Testing scenarios: If we exclude Ratio, the whole query import just fine. If we filter the query to one project (i.e. "Project A") the ratio field imports fine.
However, the whole unfiltered query does not with the ratio!
Other testing scenarios:
If we use a constant for the denominator AS "1" in Ratio (i.e. recordcost/1) the whole unfiltered query and ratio field imports fine.
If we use a constant for the numerator AS "1" in Ratio (i.e. 1/totalcost) the whole unfiltered query upon import crashes in Excel.
This is a mock example of the dataset, the actual query has 50K+ records:
Project Service Date Record Cost Total Cost Ratio A Welding 1/1/2012 $100 $120 83% A Plumbing 2/1/2012 $20 $120 17% B Welding 1/1/2012 $50 $75 67% B Plumbing 2/1/2012 $25 $75 33% C Welding 1/1/2012 $40 $61 66% C Plumbing 2/1/2012 $21 $61 34%
im doing a report based on a query (which has a few fields, including KTYPE, EXPIRATION_DATE, OVERAGE). im trying to determine the OVERAGE based on the following conditions:
here are the conditions:
if KTYPE="PO", then OVERAGE:=(EXPIRATION_DATE + 6 months) ie.. KTYPE=PO, OVERAGE:=(01/04/2004 + 6 months) = 07/04/2004
if KTYPE="IAA", then OVERAGE:=(EXPIRATION_DATE + 20 months)
if KTYPE="FA", then OVERAGE:=(EXPIRATION_DATE + 12 months)
and so on and so forth.
I'm very new to Access. What formulas do I use and do I put the formula in the query or the report.
I currently import data into a table and it it has a text field which looks like this: 12,345.67 GBP...I need to use a query to make this a number field so that I can sum it's contents. I've managed to remove the 'GBP' part but can't seem to get rid of the comma?
I have two tables that are joined - called A and B. A has two fields, "PLACE" and "RAND" and is joined to B via field "RAND". Other than "RAND", B has several fields named 01 TOTAL, 02 TOTAL, 03 TOTAL, etc...for about 60 fields.
The "PLACE" field in table A has data that is 01, 02, 03, ect.... How do I structure a query so that whatever "PLACE" is, I can match the XX TOTAL value? In other words, i need to have the query field header be somehow dependent on the value in "PLACE".
I’m developing a claim tracking database that tracks dates of events that occur in the course of processing a claim; such as, Loss Date, Report Date, Estimate Date, Payment Date, etc. There are 16 different “Events” in all.I currently have the following tables set up:
tblClaim ClaimID ClaimNumber fkEmpID
tblEmployee EmpID EmpName
[code]....
What I need to do is create a form where management can choose two or more events, and calculate the average number of days between two of any of the events, for an employee, or all employees.I have created a crosstab query to change the values in the EventName field in tblEvents to field names, and the EventDate as values for the related EventNames. I created another query based on this query to do the DateDiff.
I created combo boxes on my form with the Row Source Type set to Field List, for a list of fields in my crosstab query. I’ve tried to use the following DateDiff function to get the days between the two fields selected in my combo boxes:
But I get an error about unrecognized field name or expression for my combo boxes. So I added my combo boxes in the query parameter window, with a data type as both text and value, but with both I get an error “This expression is typed incorrectly or is too complex to be evaluated.” I also specified the column headings in the crosstab but I still am getting the “too complex” error.I’m pretty sure it’s trying to do a Datediff on the literal values in the comboboxes and not recognizing that I’m trying to specify field names.Is it possible to assign field names in DateDiff this way?
I have 3 peices of data that I am working with: Group number, plans and benefit elections. On my form I have fields for the group number and plan and 2 queries. When I enter a group number the first query displays a list of plan descriptions for that group. From there I can enter the plan description into the form's plan field and that runs the second query to give me a list of valid elections for that plan. This all works fine but I want to make the plan selection a little less tedious. What I would like is to be able to double click the query field housing the plan description and have it copied to the form's plan field. I could use the ID instead of the plan description but I work in a production environment and very key stroke counts so I would really like to have a simple double click process.
Is this even possible? If so how would I set that up? I tried using the double click on event macro builder but it does not seem to have this kind of option.
My form contains fields for group number and Plan. The same form houses 2 querys, one that pulls plans based on the group number and the other to pull elections based on the plan field (not the plan query). Would like to double click a plan within the plan query and have that description populated into the form's plan field.
I am new to Access, I know how to access the data within a field by using the field name as a variable. (Variable1 = (value(fieldname1)) or syntax similar to this. My question is, is this type of function available in Access and if so where is it in the text/manual. Or, could someone give me an example of this function.
As the title says, i have an identifier field which combines two codes eg. AAAAAA/1234.
I am using a query to extract the number part, however when i try to link to another query it says 'type mismatch'.
I assume that this is because the main query is based on a table where [ShipID] is numeric and the extracted data is based upon a underlying table where [PackageID] is a text field.
I'm trying to create a new field based on two existing fields as part of a select query. Two tables in the query each have a "HOSPITAL" field which is an indicator for "Y" or "N" for each department (in the DEPTLOOKUP table) and for each facility (in the Facility Lookup table). I want to create a field whereby a new indicator is created so that a Y is given for each record only where the facility and department HOSPITAL indicator field is both "Y". I have attached a word document that has a screenshot of the query in design view as well as the access sql code.
I need to create a query in Microsoft Access to enter 1 or 0 in a field based on whether numbers in another field is positive or negative. Here are the details.
1 entered in a "late" field if "TotalHoursAheadOrBehindScedule" field has a positive number 0 entered in a "late" field if "TotalHoursAheadOrBehindScedule" field has a negative number
I am trying to run graph on a report from query but what's happening is query shows name but report on graph shows ID'S of the field .
Below is my query
SELECT tblMainTWTTPSheet.txtRootCause, Count(tblMainTWTTPSheet.txtRootCause) AS CountOftxtRootCause FROM tblMainTWTTPSheet GROUP BY tblMainTWTTPSheet.txtRootCause, tblMainTWTTPSheet.Date HAVING (((tblMainTWTTPSheet.txtRootCause) Is Not Null) AND ((Count(tblMainTWTTPSheet.txtRootCause)) Is Not Null) AND ((tblMainTWTTPSheet.Date) Between [Forms]![frmStratificationOfRootCauses]![startDate] And [Forms]![frmStratificationOfRootCauses]![endDate]));
My bound column on main menu form and back end table is 1
I have two fields the have differing dates in them. I need an action query to make the date in one field the same as in the other. I have thousands of records to do this to. Is there a way via an action query (update?) to do this or does it have to be an SQL statement query?
