Database Prompts For Password When None Is Set

Oct 9, 2007

I am having a problem with a database. On one particular computer, a user tries to save data into a current database. The database prompts the user for a password. No password is set on the database. From what I have gathered from searching the internet, it appears that the database would be corrupt, but not so fast. About 20 other people use the same database and have no problems entering data into it without getting a password prompt. Even the same user that is having problems can enter data into the database from another PC, it is only this one PC that it is prompting the user for a password. Has anyone else experienced this problem and what can I do to fix this issue without re-imaging the PC? Thanks.

Password In Linked Db

Aug 29, 2007

Hi,

I'm using Access 97. I have an Access application that consists of two databases, a front end witht he usual forms, reports, queries etc. and a back end with the data.

I use my own simple logon form to restrict access at the front end, but nothing on the back end.

I really want to restrict access to the back end by placing a password on the database.

How do I still allow people who use the front end to get into the system and access the data, yet prevent them from accessing the back end directly?

I have put the password on the back end easily enough, but when I try to use the front end I just get the message, 'Invalid Password'.

Bernard D

General :: Forms And Queries In One ACCDB File - Path Setting To Linked Table File

Oct 5, 2014

I've got the forms and queries in one .accdb file and my tables in a separate .accdb file. The forms file links to the tables in the tables file. The tables file resides in a folder called simply enough C:acc_tables and thats where i browsed to (obviously) when i set up the linkage.

One of the users does not wish (for whatever goddamn reason) to create a C:acc_tables file to stick the tables file in , and wants the tables file in some other folder.. Unfortunately this user does not have the skills to delete the existing links and re-link to the tables file after putting it in the folder he wants.

Where in the file that holds the forms and and queries do i find the path setting to the tables linked file? Can it be changed without deleting links and then re-linking?

Tables :: Password Protect A Linked Table Or Make It Read Only

Nov 14, 2012

I have a table that I imported from another database. I used import Access - Link to the table source by creating a linked table. - then downloaded in my database.

I want to use the linked table to create relationships and forms but do not want to even accidently edit it. The table gets updated in the database on a weekly bases and I am hoping it gets updated automatically in my database as well. does it automatically get updated or do i have to set up something?

Also, I want to protect the data in that particular table and either password protect it or make it read only. Can I do that? If so, how?

Relinking Multiple Linked Tables That Are Linked To Different Databases

Feb 2, 2012

I have a database with a number of linked tables that are linked to tables in different databases (not a back-end).for example, I have table1 that is linked to table1 in K:databasedb1.mdb.table2 linked to table2 in S:datadata.mdb.and so on...

However, recently we have moved all our databases to a new location.

K:databasedb1.mdb is now residing in O:masterdatabase
and S:datadata.mdb is now residing in O:masterdata
and so on...

I'm now in charge of relinking all those tables to point to the new location.I would do this in linked table manager one by one but we have 100s of tables linked to multiple different databases in different location.is there a way to create a VBA code that will automatically do this re-linking process?

so,
1. find unlinkable tables
2. search its new location under O:master
3. re-link it to the new location

Database names and tables names have not been changed. Just the location of databases.

ODBC File DSN Connection No Password Required ?

May 23, 2007

Hi, I have created a File DSN using my ODBC under Admin Tools and placed it on the network and have linked my Access 2003 tables to point at this.

I have asked a non-domain user to log into this database and open a table but when they do, it defaults to a Domain account until you untick trusted Source. You then have to enter the username and password for the ODBC connection. I thought the whole point of a File DSN was to eradicate the process of logging in. Can anyone Help?? Thanks

This is what the ODBC looks like through text editing software.:eek:

[ODBC]
DRIVER=SQL Server
UID=MyUserAccountName
LANGUAGE=us_english
DATABASE=MyDatabaseName
WSID=MyWorkstationName
APP=Microsoft Data Access Components
SERVER=MyServerName
Description=MyDescription

Opening A Password Protected Excel File From A Command Button In Access

Dec 22, 2006

Hi All,
I have three excel files (ActualHires.xls, ActualPromotions.xls and
ActualSeparation.xls). These are password protected files (with the
same password). They are linked to an access database and whenever the
files are opened, one must supply the password and click the 'Enable
automatic refresh button.' What I was wondering was if this could be
done in access with a command button. I have pasted some code below
that I found but now I'm getting an error.
This is the code:

Dim BookNames As Variant
Dim B As Long

BookNames = Array("O:ExcelFilesActualHires.xls",
"O:ExcelFilesActualPromotions.xls",
"O:ExcelFilesActualSeparations.xls")

For B = LBound(BookNames) To UBound(BookNames)
WorkBooks.Open FileName:=BookNames(B), _
UpdateLinks:=3, Password:="*******"
WorkBooks(B).Close SaveChanges:=False
Next B

But when I click the button, I get this error:
Run-time error '9' Subscript out of range.

and this line is highlighted:
WorkBooks(B).Close SaveChanges:=False

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Relink Database With Common File Dialog In Access 2007 W/Password Protection

Jan 9, 2008

All -

Just as the title describes, I can't seem to find a solution to be able to link the front-end to the back-end tables through the common file dialog when the backend is an accdb file that is password encrypted.

See the example attached. Here it should work just fine per the Article at :

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/181076

I've found it works fine without a password encrypted back-end but not with a password encrypted back-end.

Anyone have any ideas? It would be nice to use this feature in Access as well as automating the relinking.

Thanks!

Password Across Multiple Access Systems

Aug 22, 2005

Good Afternoon,

I have been given an access database system which runs using about 7 access databases, linked tables etc, quite complex. When a new user installs the system from a DVD the user needs to provide a password. This password is filtered to all 7 access databases so they all use the same username and password.

The problem I am having is when the user runs this application again they are prompted for their password. Everytime they click on an option which is another access database they are again asked for their password. I am trying to figure out a way once the user has logged in once on start up no matter which option they select and no matter how many time they select it while the main appliction is running they are not asked for their password. Is this possible or totally outside the scope of Access databases.

Text File To MS Excel Multiple File Import Application

Jul 20, 2006

hello,

I would like to automate something presently done on a one-by-one basis. Here: a number of text files(containing data) are to be exported into an MS Excel file, with each text file to occupy a different worksheet. Presently, the idea is to use the Data/import external data/import data feature of MS Excel for importing the text files one-by-one into newly created worksheets(within the same workbook).

I would appreciate some advice on how to go about creating a useful MS Access application to achieve the above. I have checked the available Macros in MS Access, but I could not find one to suit my purpose. can anyone pls assist, on how I can get started?

Can't Edit When Using Linked .xml File?

Mar 8, 2006

I have just finished my first access database, well almost, one problem- I can't edit or type anything on my database when I am using a link to an xml workbook. If I just import the xml file to use on my database I can edit and save it but not when I used a linked xml worksheet. If I change the xml file entries in Excel, the changes appear on the linked database but it won't work the other way around - I can't even type anything in any of the fields. What have I done wrong and how can I remedy this problem? Any help would be much appreciated.

Linked Excel File In Access

Feb 26, 2006

I am using Excel and Access 2002. I have linked an excel file in Access. It is my understanding that if I add a new record in Excel it will automatically add it to Access and vise-versa. This is not working for me. I can add to one or the other and it will not display in both excel and access. I can manually add to both and access will display all data from both the database the table in access and the linked excel file. Any Ideas?

Thanks!

Linked CSV File Wont Use Link Specification

Jul 5, 2005

Hi there,

Am hoping someone can shine a light on my problem as this has me ripping my hair out.

first off I've set up a subform in my main form to display a query using a linked table as the data(a excel exported csv file). nothing special.

however, I have had to use a link specification to determine how the table is linked. i.e. what fields should be defined as double (as access treats them as integers for some reason even though the numbers are too big!) and which fields need renaming.
without this link specification, the data will not be handled correctly.
ok no problem. I've had this working. The table links fine.

When i came to roll out the database, I set up the security in order that multiple resources can use it at the same time.

Now when I log in and use the form I get the following error.

'Text file specification <filename> does not exist. You cannot import, export or link using the specification'

Arrgh. :confused: I used the specificition to link the table in the first place! I've tried refreshing the link using the Link Manager, I've tried re-linking it and I've also tried linking the table and creating new specifications, all with no luck. I get the same message each time.

My next step is to import the data instead(again I'd need to use a link specification). But I'd really like to solve this as I can see no reason why it shouldnt work.

Can anybody help?

Code:

DCnt = DCount("Den_Fis", "Data_R_Mod_U$G9707014")

I get the "Runtime error 3625: the text file specification..." doesn't exist etc.I pres debug and test the query, I get the "Unknown Jet Error".I press Stop in the VBA and open the Qry - it shows what is was ment to show.I know the workaround is to make a maketable with the needed info and the Dcount on the local table, but it would add one query and one table to the database.
