I have multiple queries containing the same types of data. How would I make one big query out of all of this data?

Change Data Type For Multiple Fields At Once?

Mar 11, 2014

I imported a big table from excel with many columns. Access when I brought it in determined that they should be "text" format. I don't want to sit and change each field to a "number-double". Is there a way to quickly change data type for multiple fields at once?

Queries :: Data Type Mismatch For Date

Jul 17, 2014

I'm trying to create a query based on another query. However, my WHERE statement is causing a data type mismatch for a date. My code is:

Code:
SELECT id, status, updated, [previous renewal]
FROM qrynext renewal
WHERE status = "active" and [previous renewal] = date()

If I remove the " and [previous renewal] = date()" it works just fine. But even setting up [previous renewal] to equal #7/17/14# or "07/17/14" or anything else I've tried won't work. The field that it's based on is definitely a date field, but I don't know why it would cause a data type mismatch.

Queries :: Data Type Mismatch In Criteria Error

Aug 8, 2013

I am getting this error in a query. The field generating the error is a calculated field using a custom function.The function is:

Code:

Public Function DecimalTime(dblEvalTime As Double) As Double
DecimalTime = Hour(dblEvalTime)
DecimalTime = DecimalTime + (Minute(dblEvalTime) / 60)
DecimalTime = DecimalTime + ((Second(dblEvalTime) / 60) / 60)
DecimalTime = Round(DecimalTime, 2)
End Function

The dbalEvalTime parameter is passed in to the function as (DateIn+TimeIn)-(DateOut+TimeOut).

So the data type passed in is Double and the Function result is Double. The criteria i am applying in the query is simply <0.01. I have formatted the query field as #.00, 0.00 and General Number but it makes no difference.

I have also tried creating a second query using the first as its data source and applying the criteria in that query but still get the same error. Without the criteria the query runs fine.

Queries :: Data Type Mismatch In Criteria Expression?

Apr 29, 2014

I have a query which runs fine until I set a criteria (of True) in the field

Code:
chase_it: prevwd([practice_bacs_submission_date])<Date()

So without the criteria, I have

Code:
SELECT prevwd([practice_bacs_submission_date])<Date() AS chase_it, practice_bacs.practice_bacs_submission_date
FROM practice_bacs
WHERE (((practice_bacs.practice_bacs_submission_date)>#1/31/2013#));

and in the query results I see 0 and -1 as expected for the 'chase_it' expression BUT When I add True (or -1, or 0) as a criteria for 'chase_it', I get the "Data type mismatch in criteria expression" error.So the sql that fails is

Code:
SELECT prevwd([practice_bacs_submission_date])<Date() AS chase_it, practice_bacs.practice_bacs_submission_date
FROM practice_bacs
WHERE (((prevwd([practice_bacs_submission_date])<Date())=True) AND ((practice_bacs.practice_bacs_submission_date)>#1/31/2013#));

In case it's relevant, my function prevwd is:

Code:
Function prevwd(dt As Date) As Date
10 On Error GoTo prevwd_Error
20 dt = dt - 1
30 While Weekday([dt]) = 1 Or Weekday([dt]) = 7 Or IsBankHoliday(dt)

[code]...

and this function is used extensively and always works perfectly. I have tried using DateAdd instead of dt = dt - 1, but that made no difference.

Queries :: DateDiff And Varchar Dates - Data Type Mismatch

Mar 17, 2015

So I am working with a table that has 2 text fields called DestructionMonth and DestructionYear. The data in DestructionMonth is a 2 character month (01 through 12), and year is a 4 character field.

What I need to do is find all records where the destructiondate is within 60 days/2 months.

I have tried this many different ways and am still getting an error.

So this query works fine:

SELECT documentstable.destructionmonth, documentstable.destructionyear, documentstable.id, Now() AS Expr1, Date() AS Expr2, DateAdd('m',2,destructionyear+"/"+destructionmonth) AS Expr3, Format(destructionyear+"/"+destructionmonth+"/"+"01","Short Date") AS Expr4, CInt(DateDiff("d",Format(destructionyear+"/"+destructionmonth+"/"+"01","Short Date"),Date())) AS MyDateDiff
FROM documentstable

It gives me MyDateDiff in the last column, the difference between the destructiondate and the current date. That works great.

But if I add a where clause with this:
CInt(DateDiff("d",Format(destructionyear+"/"+destructionmonth+"/"+"01","Short Date"),Date())) < 60

I get "Data Type Mismatch in criteria expression".

The value I am comparing to the 60 is an integer! How is it a mismatch?! Removing the CInt (which I had though was unnecessary anyway) doesn't work.

Queries :: Combination Of Letters And Numbers = Data Type Mismatch In Criteria Expression

May 16, 2013

I am working on a fairly ancient manufacturing database that identifies items using a combination of letters and numbers. The usual format is to have a letter (which suggests something about the item type) followed by a sequence of numbers.

I am trying to write a query that looks up all the records beginning with a prefix or arbitrary length, strips away the text, and finds the highest number.

Code:

SELECT Right(LocalID,Len(LocalID) - 1) As IDSuffix
FROM tblItemIDCrossReference
WHERE Left(LocalID,1) = 'T' AND IsNumeric(Right(LocalID,Len(LocalID) - 1)=True)

This query produces the error given in the title of this thread, whilst the following works:

Code:

SELECT Right(LocalID,Len(LocalID) - 1) As IDSuffix
FROM tblItemIDCrossReference
WHERE Left(LocalID,1) = 'T' AND IsNumeric(Right(LocalID,5)=True)

This related query also works and shows a load of -1s and 0s correctly

Code:

SELECT Right(LocalID,Len(LocalID) - 1) As IDSuffix,
IsNumeric(Right(LocalID,Len(LocalID) - 1)=True) As Alias
FROM tblItemIDCrossReference
WHERE Left(LocalID,1) = 'T' AND

But once again shows the error message when I try to filter the field Alias to -1 or 0 only through the right-click menu.I have tried piping Len(LocalID)-1 through CLng, CInt, Int, CDbl and CSng; this changes the error to 'Invalid Use Of Null' I have also tried removing the '=True' from the IsNumeric() term.

Queries :: Combining Data Results From Multiple Queries

Sep 30, 2014

I am working on a report that has some special characteristics.

Let's say I have a list of groups of Vendors in a table, complete with VendorID. I have 3 other tables that use the VendorID: Complaints, Complements, and Terminations.

Each of these tables has a date that the Complaint, Complement, and Termination notice was received.

Every Fiscal Quarter, a report is pulled that looks back over the 4 preceding quarters to determine if a 5% threshold has been crossed by any of the vendor-groups in regards to the amount of Complaints they received.

The equation used for that is : (complaints/vendors_in_group)*100

It is imperative that the information has the current fiscal year and fiscal month (which I am tracking with functions from MS website), and I need to be able to store the information attached to the fiscal year and month.So when a user goes to the form and inputs the desired Fiscal Year and Fiscal Month, the database can display the 4 previous quarters of information...split into Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4.

What I would like to have happen is to be able to have one table where the information is stored, quarterly, so that it can be retrieved for the report.

Questions:
1. Is it possible to have one line, per VendorID, that has the total number of Complements, Complaints, and Terminations, as well as the threshold percent stored in a table? Right now, I am getting LOTS of duplicates and blank lines when I try to put them all together. It has the right data, but takes about 10 rows per VendorID.

2. It is very important that the total number of Vendors in a group be captured on that quarterly report, so maintaining that number, in the same table, is essential and must be tied to the VendorID.

3. I have looked at Union Queries and Crosstabs, but I just dont know enough about them to make it work.

Queries :: Convert Multiple Rows Of Data Into 1 Row

I am designing a bead ornament database for my mom to track inventory of beads, inventory of finished ornaments and cost/pricing. I have a table that joins the Item and bead part with the quantity of each bead part needed, it has the following fields: ItemMatlID, ItemID, BeadPartID, QtySo I have multiple rows of ItemIDs for all the BeadPartID & Qtys.Now I need a query with 1 line per Item and all BeadParts and their quantities. However, I need the BeadPart to be a row data and not a column heading. So a crosstab is out, I believe since it wants to make the BeadPart the column heading and not data in the query.

Deptdatatble
Depttble
Emptble
HRtble
Servicetble
Servicedatatble
Archivetble
Classestble

At certain times, I want to archive employees out (lets say they are terminated). When I do this, something strange happens. If an employee has 4 records in the servicedata table and 4 records in the Classdata table, then it exports out 16 records (4 x 4). I would expect it to export out 8 records.

Extracting Data From Multiple Queries To A Table/excel

Queries :: Append Multiple Data With Update Query?

Aug 6, 2013

In access Im working with two tables, this is my setup

tableA.documentnr
tableA.revison

tableB.documentnr
tableB.revision

Both tables are filled with data, Table B contains the same kind of data as table A, But tableA has documentnumbers with different revisions (for example revision a,b,c, for each revision a seperate row). Table B might have an identical document, but just one revision (like revision a).

Now I like to append the data of tableA to tableB, except if a revision is similiar to a revision in table A. (There is more metadata involved, but I will do it step by step)

Im not working with primarykey data, becayse in the end result table B will also have multiple (identical)document numbers with different revisions on different rows.

I tried to use the update query but it doenst append the documentnumbers where the revision is not present in table B I attached a image of the tables.

Queries :: Run Multiple Expressions On The Same Data Field In A Single Query?

May 11, 2014

I am trying, and failing quite spectacularly to create a single query that will contain multiple expressions on the same field.

Please see attached jpg for example.

SQL: SELECT Count(StockData.status) AS FaultyPCs
FROM StockData
HAVING (([StockData].[Status] In ("Waiting Repair") And [StockData].[DeviceType] In ("Thick PC")));

What I want to be able to do is then add additional expressions to filter and count in the same way for "Thin PC" "Thin Laptops" "Thick Laptops" and so on.

But when I add one of these expressions to the next column in the builder, it seems to apply itself to the expression to it's left, causing that one to now give a result of 0.

Is there a way of separating one from another or do I have to create a separate query for each expression and then use another query to pull them all together (as I have done in another situations - but this will involve creating probably 20 separate queries.

Queries :: Get Rid Of Duplicate Records That Show Different Data In Multiple Columns

I have 10 tables linked in one query. 9 tables are linked to one main table (one to many relationship).I want to get rid of duplicate records that show different data in multiple columns. I want only one record of this but retain with different data under different columns to be separated by commas. For example: I want this...

Code:
Employee # Name Course Start Date Completion Date
1 John Smith MS Office Training 1/1/2010 5/1/2010
1 John Smith Python Training 1/30/2011 4/1/2011

2 Hank Joel WHMIS Training 11/15/2010 12/1/2010
3 Jane Doe Leadership Training 7/18/2011 9/26/2012

To turn like this:

Code:
Employee # Name Course Start Date Completion Date
1 John Smith MS Office Training, Python Training, Leadership Development, Sensitivity Training 1/1/2010, 1/30/2011, 6/27/2013, 9/5/2010 5/1/2010, 4/1/2011, 9/1/2013, -

3 Jane Doe Leadership Training 7/18/2011 9/26/2012

I am using two tables to find the data (main - "employee tbl" and "courses tbl")I have been trying to follow Allen Browne`s method, but I`m unsuccessful. This is the code I've put in SQL of this query:

Quote:

SELECT [Employee #], ConcatRelated("[Courses]", "[Courses tbl]", "[Employee #] =" & [Employee #]) from [Employee Tbl]

SELECT [Employee #], ConcatRelated("[Completion Date]", "[Courses tbl]", "[Employee #] =" & [Employee #]) from [Employee Tbl];

However, I am prompt with "Syntax error in query expression".It also prompts another expression to be in error when I include the above but it runs okay when I don't do the above:

Quote:

WHERE (([Employee Tbl].[Employee #]) Like [Enter Employee ID or leave blank for ALL employees] & "*")
