Multiple User Access Problem!!
Mar 7, 2008
Hi there, wondering if anyone can help.
im trying to create a multiple user access database, but i am experincing problems when more then one person is trying to access the same entry fields and this is causing conflicts, the database is stored on a server and is not localised to the network machines. what i would like, is when a form is opened by user 1 (record no 10), user 2 should be able to use the same database form and go to a new record (record no 11) that isnt already in use by user 1.
any advice on enabling the database for multiple user access is welcome.

I have not created any user accounts for this new app. When working over terminal services, multiple users can open the app and look at it, but only the first person in can add info.
I have set the record lock fields and sharing correctly.
It appears that the program will only allow one admin to take control of the db, regardless of what they are doing inside the app. Is the best solution to define individual userids and passwords for each user?

I have a multi user database in Access 2000 that is on a server. The individual users have shortcuts pointing towards the server instance. One user and one user only when opening the shortcut gets the error "you do not have exclusive rights to the database" .
All other users can enter the database with no error box. I have checked the advanced setting under options and they are correct. Ironically if you go to start and open access then navigate to the database shortcut. It opens with no error.

Hello Everyone,
I have a database that I splited the tables on one file and queries, forms and macros in another. The front end file (the one with the forms) I published it in our intranet, so when some one clicks on the link a form pops up which is the way it supposed to work. The problem I have is when some other people in my area go to the intranet and click on the link and get the error that the file is read-only and the macro that makes the form open up fails. I checked the file's properties and is NOT read-only, so I don't knwo what the problem is.
Please help!
thanks,
Pablo

I searched around to have multiple users and the only thing I found on the topic was
the following:
On the Tools menu, click Options.
On the Advanced tab, under Default open mode, click Shared.
and its suppose to work (which it didn't since I'm posting)
I have a few tables and a few forms, and I need to be able to have 2 or 3 people on at any given time.
Thanks for any help or even looking @ my post

I am trying to create a database such that everyone in my company will be able to access it, but without having to install access and put a link to the DB on every computer. Ideally, I would like to have some sort of web applet that uses the DB on a central server and allows users to add and modify entries without having to know anything about Access.
Any help would be appreciated

Another baffling problem - there are far more traps for new players than I ever imagined. Any suggestions gratefully received.
I have a fe/be split database with multiple users on a network. All users have the same front end on their PCs and are either running Access 2000 or 2003.
Problem 1:
Some users cannot open the database at all, getting the error message "Could not open xxxxx.mdb - File already in use."
Problem 2:
Some users can open the database but get a message in the status bar saying "Recordset not updateable."
Other users, running either Access 2000 or 2003 have been able to use the database without difficulty. The number of users is in single figures and it is unlikely that more than 4 people have attempted to log on simultaneously.
The database default open mode is set to "shared", the default record locking is set to "No locks" and the "Open database using record-level locking box is checked".
I have been having difficulties setting the security for the database (see other postings on this site) and so it is currently unsecured with no password set for the admin user. Users are joined to their default system Workgroup Information Files.
My guess is that there is a setting on the Access installation of the user's PC that needs to be changed but this is only a guess - anybody any idea what I should try next?
Regards,
Keith.

Last question.. honest.. maybe ;)
I have a query that prompts the user to display certain/all of the members in my member table. The problem is, using a parameter query in the memberID field only allows the user to send the message to one member, not multiple members. "1 or 2 or 3" or "1,3" obviously don't work.
I've tried creating a form with a list box to select the members (which I;ve done) but obviously you need code and stuff to get it to work which I think will be too complicated. Is there a simpiler way or is the form the only thing that will work?
Thanks
Kris

I have a database application that i intend to split with the table part on a server and the forms part on each users desktop. It will be used by approx 10 users. While the probability of different users accessing and updating the same form is small, the possibility exists.
Is there a way i can prevent any weird multiple update stuff happening? I'm using Access 2003

I've got this database that needs some users to be read only and some users to have full control. I applied the appropriate ntfs permissions but there is a problem. If a read only users open the database, and then a full control users opens the database its stuck in read-only.
The database is a 2007 accdb.

Hello,
I have a database we use to enter new account numbers and several other atribbutes about the account and it is split into a FE/BE with the BE in a shared folder. I have the open database using record-level locking checked but it seems to me that the database is opening up with page-level locking. Multiple users will receive a message that the current record is locked and I am sure that they are all not updating the same record. Does anybody have any idea's of what I can do? If nothing else I am going to have to recreate my form as an unbound form and see how that goes.

Hello
I have created a database for my department to log all of our jobs to keep track of them and I want to create a simple search for them but I am having difficulties.
I am familiar with creating queries to search tables for matching records, but is it possible to get search criteria from the user (ideally from a search form they fill in) to form the query?
For example, I would like the user to be able to query the jobs by month and/or business area and/or supplier...is this possible?
Any help gratefully received!!!

I am creating a form that has a bunch of yes/no box for daily task. Is there a way for access to record which user selects yes/no.
For example
yes/no box1 - user 1 completed this task
yes/no box2 - user 2 completed this task
and so on
So when i look back i can see which user complete which task. I did a bit of research and saw that i can save a user that update a record. But since this is a daily task, each new record will be a new day.

I've designed an Access Database (using Access 2003) and assigned user-level security to it such that some users are read only and some are full access. Everyone requires a login and password to access the database. The problem is, once I copy/paste the database from my computer to the shared drive (where it will be accessed by all the users) the prompt for a username and password disappears.

I am trying to put together an form to be used in an academic administration database.
Ideally, I would like to create a form that will allow a user to select criteria and get a list of all students fitting that criteria.
For example:
Show me all a) all Economics majors with b) 30-50 Credits who c) have not taken English 101.
All of this data could be compiled into one query, but I would like to create a form that will allow a user to select what data he or she would like to see.
(Maybe they only want to see graduates)
I hope this makes sense.
And I hope someone can help point me in the right direction.
Thank you!

I have a search form that looks up a value in a field and lets the user know if it is there or not, they have now asked to put in multiple values to search... eg. searching containers number, I will put user input box where they can put these numbers
NYKU023561
TRLU102356
TCNU123023
This will search my container number field and show a pop up message box saying..
Please note below
NYKU023561 - has been found you cannot use this container
TRLU102356 - has not been found please check internal system
TCNU123023 - has beeen found you cannot use this container
Below is the basic search I had before which was all I needed.. how can I adapt this?
Code:
Private Sub Command256_Click()
If (CntSearch & vbNullString) = vbNullString Then Exit Sub
Dim rs As DAO.Recordset
Dim CNT As String
[Code]....

I have built a end user form with multiple toggle buttons with "Yes/No" properties. I am wanting to link the buttons together, so if all have been selected/pressed it will read "pass" in a text box, but if even one is not selected it will read "fail". I was successful with the programming for one but not sure how to link them.

I have a user form with six different dropdown boxes. I would like to create a query that gets its criteria from users selecting values from one or more of these boxes.
I have tried:
[forms]![frmName]![comboboxname] or [forms]![formName]![comboboxname] is null
in the corresponding query fields and get a "query is too complex" error message, even when only selecting one criteria.
What am I doing wrong?

Using Access's User and Group Accounts or Using a Login Form to access database?
I've been researching on how to make a database secure. How to create User and Group Accounts on access, I see the step by step instructions and tried it out myself.
I also saw some sites where they give an example of a Login Form and how to create one.
My question is do you need to create both. First create the users and groups to permit or deny access to certain forms and then have a login form?
But would that mean that they'd have to login twice? Once when the database opens because it activates the db security that was created and then login again in the login form that was created?
Also when the user logins in and clicks on the cmd button on the form which opens up another from, frmWorkLog, I have an Employee field. This field I want it to have the user's name entered automatically and "locked". So that info, employee name, is extracted from the user's login. So then the user can only see his or her records only and no one elses.
How would I go about creating that. Hope I made my explanation clear.
Thanks in advance.

I have two database applications and they are:
- the (A) application is for administration use.
- the (B) application is for normal users use.
the idea is that: I made the (A) application for administrators who have full control over the database objects (tables, forms, queries, and so on ...).
the (B) application I have created for normal users who will have only to use forms to insert some data and display data only.
but the two applications has a respective table called "vacation request" table. where I linked them, so the both administrators and users can share the data.
The real question is that: How can I prevent the users from seeing the database objects in their application. I used the database options which have helped me in hidding the database objectives when the users open the application, but unfortunately they managed to access to the database objects by pressing the special keys.
I would like to have an access to the (B) application when I want to make some modifications to the forms and then lock it from users where they only have to use the forms for requesting vacations and view the vacations.

Twice a year, a database of mine is accessed and put too use by various staff within a time range of 1 week. the database is on a shared drive and in a location which can be accessed by all.
The staff access the database from different workstations and in some instances at the same time.
This has only led to issues in the database being copied and then confusing staff on what database to click on thus i have 2 databases which i then have to sift through and copy/paste into the correct one.
I want to know the best way i can:
1) Prevent multiple users accessing the database at a time.
2) making a copy of the original and typing into a separate database.

We have two computers in a work group. On computer1 I have the back-end and front-end database files in the shared folder and 2 users out of 4 can access the database no problem. When the other users try to access the database they receive the error message "Microsoft Access can't Find The Database 'C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersDocumentsdb.mdb' Make sure you entered the correct path and filename" On computer2 I have the front-end database files in the shared folder and pointing to the same back-end database on computer1. Again 2 users out of 4 can access the database no problem. When the other users try to access the database they receive the same error described above.
I expect that this is some sort of windows permissions issue?
There are some clues to this fact ..
The two users that can't access the database are limited accounts, but I tried making them administrators and this had no affect.
Their shared documents folder does not have a hand underneath it?
Any help on this appreciated as it's really starting to annoy me now!
Thanks.

At this point, FE db has 4 linked tables, 3 are located in FileBE1, and the 4th is located in FileBE2.
The production BE is located on a server, the test (when working remotely) is on a local computer that is not able to connect to the server. Also, the test BE files (but not the table names) have different names than the production.
I have the idea of creating a table in the Front End that contains a list of users, filename and location (server or local drive).
Upon startup, how could I set up the vba to check the links and if they need to be changed will go and change them without the user having to click on link table manager or be prompted for names and path.
For now, I envision three rows in the table, one for the test user, one for local user and a default UNC for everyone else. (or would it be six rows since there are two files that need link checking and relinking).

Is it possible to run a basic select query to pull records based on multiple strings entered by a user?
I have a query with field criteria - Like '*' & [Type In MMDBID:-] & '*'
This allows the user to input one MMDBID and the records are retrieved from the db.
I can also use the OR statement in the same field criteria "AB123" OR "BC123", and all records based on those values are pulled back.
But I cannot get the user to input multiple values and I tried amending the SQL string based on the OR criteria above
SQL statement (Like) is below :
SELECT tblFund.MMDBID, tblFund.[Investment Name], tblCodesLive.[IOE Code], tblCodesLive.[Uptix Code], tblFund.[Red Payment Deadline]
FROM (tblFund INNER JOIN tblCodesLive ON tblFund.MMDBID = tblCodesLive.MMDBID) INNER JOIN tblContact ON (tblFund.MMDBID = tblContact.MMDBID) AND (tblCodesLive.MMDBID = tblContact.MMDBID)
WHERE (((tblFund.MMDBID) Like '*' & [Type In MMDBID:-] & '*') AND ((tblFund.Editing)=False) AND ((tblFund.Closed_Fund)=False));

I am using Access 2010 and Excel 2010. I need to have VB script to export the access table 502 records by 38 fields into Multiple Excel workbooks each having multiple tabs. In the Access table each record has two fields: Div and Tab that will be used to name each workbook and each tab (sheet). There are 6 unique "Div"'s to name the 6 workbooks and there are several "Tab" names for each Div (workbook).
Note: These 6 workbooks with multiple tabs were originally imported into Access from one common folder on my desktop by this routine:
Option Compare Database
Option Explicit
Private Sub Command1_Click()
Dim blnHasFieldNames As Boolean, blnEXCEL As Boolean, blnReadOnly As Boolean
Dim lngCount As Long
[Code] .....
