Multiple Value Combo Box

Oct 16, 2013

I have a Multiple Value Combobox that I have linked to one of my forms and I am trying to write some vba code that will allow on update, "if a certain item is clicked open up a different form". All i am having trouble with is referencing an item in the

Code:
If Me.Software.Column(1) = "Lawson Prod" Then combobox DoCmd.OpenForm "Lawson_Roles_Groups_frm", acNormal, , "EmployeeID = '" & Me.EmployeeID & "'"
Else
MsgBox ("It worked")
End If
End Sub

This code gave me no error but it wont read that "Lawson Prod" is selected.

Filtering Combo Box Based On A Value From Another Combo Box (in Multiple Items Form)

Mar 11, 2012

Let's assume we have 3 tables:

Order_Category (Order_Category_ID, Order_Type_Name) with 2 records:
1, Minor
2, Major

Order_Type (Order_Category_ID, Order_Type) with 4 records:
1, Book
1, Pencil
2, Car
2, House

Orders (Order_Category_ID, Order_Type, value) with 2 records:
1, NULL, NULL
1, NULL, NULL
2, NULL, NULL

I want to create a Multiple Items form presenting Orders table with two Combo Boxes:

1. A combo box to select Order_Category_ID.
2. A combo box to select Order_Type. When 1 (Minor) is chosen in the first combo box it should show Book and Pencil, when 2 (Major) is chosen it should show Car and House.

Examples in the Internet show how to do it on a 'single row' forms using the RowSource property. I tried to use a query like:

SELECT Order_Type
FROM Order_Type
INNER JOIN Orders ON Order_Type.Order_Category_ID = Orders.Order_Category_ID
WHERE Order_Category_ID = [comboBoxOrderCategoryID]

But it sets same values for all records in the Multiple Items form and it should return different values in each rows based on value in the first combo box (Order_Category_ID).

Description 1 Cost 1

Multiple Combo Boxes

Dec 14, 2005

Hi guys

I'm creating a database where there will be multiple combo boxes on a form. When a user chooses an option from the first combo box, I want the available choices in the 2nd combo box to be reduced and so on.

I thought I'd create a navigation table so the first column has multiple occurances of each option, but then the second column has the available choices for the first option etc. Then, I thought I'd use the chosen value in combo box 1 and filter my navigation table depending on the result.

However, the field doesn't appear to be storing the value. When I set up the query on the combo box to select distinct navigation.[cause] from navigation where navigation[type]=forms!form name[type] it doesn't work.

Any ideas

Cheers

Combo Box - Using Multiple Times

Sep 7, 2006

Hi again everyone,
With help on my first question Ive now got my cascading combo boxes working to a stage that shows all the information I need,

Currently Ive got 4 cbs and they work bring in and updating depending on what is selected in the previous etc etc.

combo1 = 2
combo2 = 5
combo3 = null
combo4 = null

how can I tell it to use combo2 since there is no values selected in 3 and 4

Ive currently got the combo boxes in a form of their own, basically in my main form Id like to be able to click on a button to update a value, and then it will bring up the form for the combo boxes, then id select the values till I had what i needed, and then it would fill in the value on the main form with my selection from the combo boxes,

to make it abit harder, on the main page, there is 3 values that will need to get their value from the combo boxes, will that just mean I have to make 3 forms with the combo boxes in them, one for each of the values on the main page, or could I just have one form and maybe put a button saying (Use this Selection for Value 1)(Use this Selection for Value 2) etc etc.

Ive looked through the net alot and cant seem to find any examples that suit my question... but if anyone knows of a good example that would be awesome.

Multiple Combo + Last 5 Selections

Oct 1, 2006

Howdy all, Ive got combo boxes, in a cascading style working well... but what id like to also have is a another dropdown list that shows the last 5 selected options (because often the data will be entered in batches and it should just save time)there is combo1 combo2 and combo3 If Sport is selected in combo1 then it displays combo2 with all the sports in it, so if golf is selected then the golf options come up in combo3 for example tiger, So id like to store Sport > Golf > Tiger Ive already got the value for Tiger being selected, so I can assign that easily enoughWhat id like to be able to do is store the name and its value in a combo box maybe showing the last 5 selections. Im just not sure what the best way to go about this would be, Should I make a table with say 5 rows? or is there a better way to go about it?Any thoughts or advice would be awesome,Cheers Ezy

Combo Box Completing Multiple Fields Help

Dec 2, 2005

Ok... big time newbie/hack here. I have a tiny bit of programming experience from waaay back with UNIX and C. Have basic database experience and understanding but no VB experience. So I appologize ahead of time if this seems really simple. I'm working on "fixing" a small access database/program for my wife's work. Very simple design.

I have a company table and a customer table. I have customer form and a company form. They may have several customers at the same company. So my design has them starting on the Customer form. They begin by filling in the Customer's Name and then they get to the Company Name combo box. They should select the Company Name from this box. If it is a new company and is not in the list they should click on the "New Company" button beside the Company Name field. Then the Company Form opens and they can add a new Company along with Company address and phone numbers etc. Then they close the Add Company Form and then can select the newly added Company form the Company Name combo box (by the way, the only way I could get this box to update with the new company name was to use a macro that only runs the Requery statement for the On Enter event... it works... I hope this is ok).

Anyway, this is where my problem arises. I need the selection of the Company Name to also pull over the address, phone number, fax number, etc. info from the Company table and complete it on the Customer form/table now. How do I do that? I think I need to do this with the After Update event with some VB code... but I have no idea how to actually pass this data. The property for my combo box is as follows:
Control Source........CompanyName
Row/Source Type.....Table/Query
Row Source......SELECT zMASCompanies.CompanyName FROM zMASCompanies;

The field doesn't have to be a combo box (if this is not the right way to do it)... I just need them to select a company name and have it fill in about 20 or 25 fields from the company table/form into the customer table/form.

I did try searching the forum and found a few things but nothing I found was very clear (especially since I am not sure I am even heading down the right path). Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!

Any help please????
Thanks,
Jeff

Combo Box Controlling Multiple Subforms

Apr 21, 2005

Hi,

I'm v.new to Access so do excuse my ignorance.
I have a form with a combo-box with the following values:
Trust, Course, Overseas, GP
When Trusts is selected I'ld like frmtrust_sub to appear.
When anything else is selected I'ld like frmnontrust_sub to appear
Once the data has been entered in the subform the user would continue back to the main form.
I'ld like the subforms to remain hidden until needed, if possible so as not to confuse users.

I’ve copied this piece of code and have tried pasting it into the “after update” event procedure but I get this error message

“the link masterfields property section has produced this error “Ambiguous name detected: Type_afterupdate”

Private Sub Type_AfterUpdate()

Sub ShowSubform()

'Save unsaved changes to currently open subform

ElseIf Type = "GP" Then

ElseIf Type = "Course" Then

Using Multiple Criteria From Combo Boxes

Oct 6, 2005

Hi All,

I would like a form (in Access 2000) that allows users to search the database using combo boxes that specify criteria. So, upon load the form would be populated by every record, then as the user begins to make selections using the combo boxes they can narrow the results down to only a few (combo box filters are cascading; each one narrowing the results the other returned). There would also obviously need to be a reset button and 'all' fields in the combo boxes. I have found the code to filter by 1 combo box but if more than 1 is added (obviously) the filter resets to filter only by the current selection. (See the method I used here (http://www.freevbcode.com/ShowCode.asp?ID=4668))

Does anyone know how to bolt these together so they work in sync?

Please be gentle as I've only been learning Access for 2 months and VBA is still very new to me

Thanks,

Bobadopolis

Multiple Combo Boxes On The Form

Jul 17, 2006

Hi,

I need help in the following 2 problems:

I have two combo boxes on the form and print button.
In one combo box showing numbers 1,2,3,4 and 5.
Other combo box showing logical operator =,<,>
User is going to select from one combo box logical operator and from other number "means class field".
Print button prints the report. Report is based on the query.
In the query in criteria line I put the code
[FORMS]![MAINFORM]![CMB_CLASS]
It works for one combo box. Problem is to get criteria from second combo box or concatenate the both criteria’s. In query criteria line it should show like <2 or =3 or what ever user is selecting.

Second problem is in the same line. Three text boxes and 2 combo boxes showing "OR" and "AND" For example in one text box user enters last_name and then he select "OR", second text box enter city and then he select "AND" from second combo box and third text box enter department. After selection he is going to click the print button to print the report.

I really appreciate if anyone knows the solution or they used this type of thing in there application.

Thanks

Selecting Multiple Items In Combo Box...

Feb 1, 2005

Is it possible to select more than one item in a combo box? I have attached a sample of a database I am working on. I have a table called Interests and on the Bookings form, I would like to be able to select more than one interest in the Interests combo box, but I can't figure out how to do it. In databases I have seen, you simply have to hold down ctrl or shift to make multiple selections - that's what I want to do.

Can anyone help, please?

Thank you!!

So I can choose a service or a product in the same order line.Or do I have to join my services and products in the same table?

Using Multiple Combo Boxes In One Form

Jan 18, 2012

I made a form from a "CS-PG1-PG2" table. then i added a subform that contains these 3 fields plus some more information. What I'm trying to do is to insert in the main form 3 combo boxes:

CS (discount group): not to be linked/synchronized with the other two combos;
PG1 (product group);
PG2 (product group2): it must show the filtered results from PG1 combo box.

As long as I insert the CS combo box, everything is fine. Whenever i add the other two combo boxes, or just the PG1 combo box, then the two of them conflict and i get zero records.

All i want to do is to add these 3 combos and give an option to filter the results by CS or PG, plus give some sort of hierarchy order between the PG1 and the PG2.

Multiple Query Fields & Combo Boxes

Jul 11, 2005

Hi all,

Im trying to do the following query work.
I have a form, with combos , text fields which are filled in with parameters.
The query I want to make is complex.
For example we shall use field1, field2, combo1 , combo2 for explanation.
I want the field1 param AND the field2 AND combo1 AND combo2 to be evaluated for a result. At the same time, I want the user to fill in only field1 and combo1 or like that and the result to be right.
Is there any possibility to make them all work at the same time, individually, or in combinations ?

Sounds too Complicated ?

I ve managed to make it work only by filling in individually the fields or combos and have the right results. The other ways didnt.

Desperately need your helpppp. :rolleyes:

Multiple Criteria Query Using Combo Boxes

Jan 28, 2008

Hi All,

I am currently having problems with a multiple criteria query with combo boxes (see attached file).

The problem:

- When user defines all 3 criteria (e.g. selects Project: A, Category: Services and Equipment Type: Packages), the query returns a result - no problem here.

- When user defines no fields (i.e. all combo boxes empty), query returns all records - again, not a probelm.

- However, say a user wants to display all records belonging to just Project: A, for example, the query returns no records. Obviously, there a a number of combinations of this (another example would be a user wanting to show records from project: B, with Category: Equipment Type).

I have included the Is Null statement in the query but to no avail. Could anyone advise on a solution based on the attached database. Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Kind regards,

Stephen

Hello All,

Thank you for taking time to view my access problem, I hope somebody can help / give advice on my problem.

I have a Form, within that form I have a subform. On the main Form I have several Combo Boxes.

ComboBoxes include; Year. Movie. Country.

What I want to do is when the user selects from the various values within each Combo Box to display the data in the subform accordingly.

I was able to use the Wizard to display the Movie Information correctly. The code is below for that. How can I go by doing this.

' Code to change the movie information, when they select the combo box
Dim rs As Object

Set rs = Me.Recordset.Clone
rs.FindFirst "[MovieID] = " & Str(Nz(Me![cmbMovieList], 0))
If Not rs.EOF Then Me.Bookmark = rs.Bookmark

I am very sorry if my question seems broad, ill try to be more specific upon request. THANK YOU for your time and your help.

Choosing Subform From Multiple Tables With Combo Box

Sep 6, 2005

Hi guys,

I've run into a little problem while working on a electronics component database:

My plan was to use one specific table for each kind of components, i.e. resistors, capacitors, transistors etc as the specific data of each type is quite different from the other types (resistance/capacitance etc). I also thought I'd use a main form with a drop box allowing the user to choose which component to look for and then a component type specific subform to let the user make a more detailed search.

The thing is that I'm not quite sure how to call different subforms based on the drop box selection (I guess I need a subform for each type of component)? Or can I call a table with each component's specific data types and generate a subform based on this table? (I'd prefer the latter...)

To find a specific resistor you might want to specify the resistance, the type of resistive material, size and tolerance whereas an integrated circuit requires information on type of circuit, package, size etc.

All similar questions I've found relates to the use of a single, main, table only, I can't really see how to do that here...
