I am designing a database in Access 2010 to handle customer discounts. The problem I am facing is that the discount can vary by customer. One could be a straight percentage based on certain sales totals, even the percentages can vary by customer, and some customer discounts are tiered. I was hoping there was a way to handle all through one query, because there are so many variations, it would require several queries if I separate by each calculation available.
Is there a way to set up a table listing the customer and their corresponding calculation expression then running a query using that table and the sales data table to do all the calculations. Or is there another way to handle this level of complexity in Access? The end result I would like is one data set with each customer and their calculated discount.
I am trying to make calculations at a single record level. I have many products and I want to select only 6 of them, which I just found out that I can do it by their SupplierID. then I have a query that finds the amount of pcs that I have for each product. The aim is to determine the final weight of this 6 products. So to start I need to find the weight of each individual product by multiplying the number of pieces (from the query) by the weight of a single piece. Obviously each product weights differently, and at the end I need to add all the weights of the individual products to make the total weight of the 6 products.
don't know how to approach the problem of selecting a single record. And also I don't know what would be best to do it in a query, a form or a report.
Hi, thanks in advance for any help you can offer. I've got a table that has
Date Time Tag ID Power Level
throughout the day a computer listens to several tags (transmitters) and records the power level of the signal generated by the tag each 3 seconds. What I'd like to do is build a query that gives the Date, Time and Maximum Power level reading for each tag ID. I only want 1 record per tag per day
I've tried using "group by" and max in the query but this gives me all the times throughout the day.
I have set up a parameter query in Access 2003 that asks the user for the "Section", such as "Admin", "Accounting" etc.
I need them to be able to respond to the prompt with more than one section if they want- sometimes just one, sometimes two or three or four.
So they can get "Accounting" and "Admin" both in the records that are returned.
The code: SELECT T_ElainesMaster.Section, T_ElainesMaster.Login, T_ElainesMaster.Workstation, T_ElainesMaster.NT, T_ElainesMaster.Barcode, T_ElainesMaster.[PC model], T_ElainesMaster.[Emp Name], T_ElainesMaster.[swap or not], T_ElainesMaster.[Exp Date] FROM T_ElainesMaster WHERE (((T_ElainesMaster.Section) Like [What section would you like to include?])) ORDER BY T_ElainesMaster.Section;
I have a query that selects values from a table and I'm further creating a letter based on this query. The problem i'm having is that if the query pulls 3 rows as result then it creates 3 separate letters. Basically this is how the output of query looks:
(refer attachment)
Is there any way to write this query so that I can get output as below:
I am trying, and failing quite spectacularly to create a single query that will contain multiple expressions on the same field.
Please see attached jpg for example.
SQL: SELECT Count(StockData.status) AS FaultyPCs FROM StockData HAVING (([StockData].[Status] In ("Waiting Repair") And [StockData].[DeviceType] In ("Thick PC")));
What I want to be able to do is then add additional expressions to filter and count in the same way for "Thin PC" "Thin Laptops" "Thick Laptops" and so on.
But when I add one of these expressions to the next column in the builder, it seems to apply itself to the expression to it's left, causing that one to now give a result of 0.
Is there a way of separating one from another or do I have to create a separate query for each expression and then use another query to pull them all together (as I have done in another situations - but this will involve creating probably 20 separate queries.
I managed to get separate combo boxes to filter out results on a query, however now I have a slightly different problem.
I managed to get the combo boxes to filter records in different query criteria, i.e criteria A for field A, criteria B for field B, etc.
Now I would like to have several combo box filters in one criteria field, however no matter how much I try to move the code about, they either filter out nothing at all, or show up blank records as they're filtering one after the other, i.e filter for A, and then B, which clearly won't work as there will be no B if you've already filtered for A.
The code I'm using in each criteria box is;
Like "*" & [Forms]![MyForm]![Combo1] & "*"
and this works as a single criteria in a single field.
I'm creating a database for my wife to use in her work, one of the fields is dates visited and the user should enter "00/00/0000, 11/11/1111, 22/22/2222, 33/33/3333" in this format. The field is a large text format because there could be anything from 1 date to hundreds. What I need to be able to do is in my query I need to enter 2 dates and have access return a how many dates exist between those 2 date values. eg It will pop up a box asking for start date and then another asking for end date and then it has to return the count total of how many dates exist between those two date values. I don't know VB and have had only basic training in Java and C# none of which involved Access. The only way I can think of doing it is to have access count the number of commas within the date field required but I don't know the formula required assuming it can even be done.
I need to produce a Data Integrity report that lists the users of a separate database and the count of errors that they make, separated by error type.
Currently my query displays all the users who made errors, and the total errors they made. But I don't want the total - I want to break this number down by the types of errors that are made.
I modified the SQL to make it easier to read. How can I take the below statement and make a few expressions that count up the specific values? The field I need to dissect is "Type Error" and a couple of examples of error types are "A1" and "B1"
Code: SELECT DISTINCTROW [Errors Table].User, Count([Errors Table].[Type Error]) AS [Errors] FROM [Errors Table] INNER JOIN [Workcenter Profiles] ON [Errors Table].PWC = [Workcenter Profiles].PWC WHERE ((([Errors Table].[Review Status])="Error Corrected")) OR ((([Errors Table].[Review Status])="Error Not Corrected")) OR ((([Errors Table].[Review Status])="Error Not Correctable ")) GROUP BY [Errors Table].User ORDER BY [Errors Table].User;
I've seen it done with multiple queries joined together, but I'd like to avoid that if possible...
I have a reasonably complex query (3 subqueries into 1 main query) which gathers data from various tables into a single dataset based on a specified date.
I now need to generate a similar dataset but across a range of dates (a month) for reporting purposes. However, I can't just adapt the query and change the parameter from a "=#<Date>#" format to a "Between #<Date1># And #<Date2>#" format
The reason being, each date has to be treated individually and has to be queried as a standalone. It's to do with the type of data I have (one-to-many relationships between tables)
So what I really need to do is run the same query multiple times, for each date in scope, then stitch all of those datasets together into one 'giant' one.
How to do that in SQL (effectively, have one query produce the dates in scope, then join that onto the other query, passing each date as the parameter - I don't even think that's possible to be honest)
The other option I can think of is to use VBA to loop through the dates in scope, then use a QueryDef object to set the parameter and read the records for each date into a Recordset object. But then I have the problem of stitching all the Recordsets together, without looping through all the fields and rows each time.
I am trying to create a form with a button attached to each record that would allow the user to click the button and it would automatically open outlook and fill in the TO:, SUBJECT: and BODY: fields. Here is the code that I currently have:
Code: Private Sub Command33_Click() Dim strEmail As String Dim strMsg As String Dim oLook As Object Dim oMail As Object Set oLook = CreateObject("Outlook.Application") Set oMail = oLook.CreateItem(0)
[code]...
There are two issues I keep running into:
1. This code opens outlook and populates all of the fields but pastes the email incorrectly. Instead of pasting just the email (email@email.com) it pastes the html tags as well (email@email.com#mailto:email@email.com#) which means that the user would have to delete everything between the #'s in order to send the email every time.
2. I currently have the email BODY pulling from a table but this obviously limits what I can do. I would like to simply encode the BODY within the VBA code. The setup I am looking for is: one paragraph a blank line a hyperlink to a website a blank line another paragraph
I have solved the problems getting values on the subform. I have not in getting values on the subform.For instance, on the one titled phone use the formula in the tutorial is:
=[sbfCustomerRoomUse].[Form]![txtTotalPhoneUse]
#Error results when the doc is put into a form mode.
Now when I input each value in the equation above separately.I still get no entry.
For " = sbfCustomerRoomUse" , I get #Error; and for "= txtTotalPhoneUse", I get #Name.
CustomerRoomUse and txtTotalPhoneuse are from the subform that was dropped into the customer form in a previous step. It shows that explicitly when designed sbfCustomerRoomUse on the main that CustomerRoomUse come from a subform. This does not seem to need to be done with txtTotalPhoneuse, and I am not sure why. Neither one gives me a desired calculation result.
My question is this: I am creating a database for a student survey. Some of the questions may have multiple answers. For instance, question 2 reads: "What location/time are you taking courses (select all that apply)"
and the possible answers are: 1)Daytime/Oakland 2)Evening/Oakland 3)Saturday College 4)BC
- Where a student could be taking classes at multiple locations or times. I am completely lost as to how to set this up. I have tried to set the properties for the field on the form to accept multiple responses, but of course, these do not save to the table and so it's completely useless.
I've got a form called 'frmStudent' which is linked to 'tblStudent'. I have designed it as a tabbed form, the first tab has "Student name", "Student Number", etc. The second tab is linked to visits by the student to a mentor (such as a tutor etc). Here I'd like to have "Date of visit", "Mentor Name", etc.
So far I've been able to get the first tab to work (I'm guessing because it's linked to 'tblStudent'), but can't get my 2nd tab to work as I have no clue on how to link it with 'tblVisits'. Is there a VBA methor or perhaps a nother method to do this?
I'm attaching a link to the sample of what I'm doing (please shift-open into frmStudent to view what I'm talking about). Any ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Hello friends,I have a pretty noobish question. I was wondering if it was possible to have several (3 in my case) different forms that apply data to a single table? The main table has three different types of data: 1. Client info 2. Services A 3.Services B. Each type of data has about 7/50/12 different fields of data in each set so that trying to include all this data on a single form is not very user friendly due to clutter.I have three forms that input data into the table, however the record navigation command buttons that I have on the forms do not apply the data to the correct record. For instance, when I input the Client info for client #2, and click the "open services A form" command button, the form opens on client #1 Services A instead of to a new record. Is this something I have done wrong, or is it due more to MS Access limitations? Thanks
I have split my database and have the front end on numerous PC's. Is this the preferred method of a multi user database? The reason I ask is not all the data is making to the backend - only some records.
How to do this? trick is that these reports are all the same report being fed different data, opened and closed using VBA. In between the closing and opening the data gets changed. Best approach is?
I have question regarding multiple choices fields. I would like to store constrained but multiple values in a single field. I used the assistant to create the multiple choice field in the table, but I'd like to have it displayed in my form with check boxes (more readable in my tabular form) instead of drop down list. Is it possible ...
So I have a list of jobs and each job is subject to change from the original plan.
Each change needs to be documented and dated. So what I want is a form where the site can be selected and a note written. When this is saved, a record of the current time would also be needed.
The form aspect of this seems fairly straight forward to me. I just cant visualise where the 'notes' will be stored.
This particular database generally looks at reporting individual records as opposed to summary reports. So for a particular data record i have the following data [x1][x2][x3][x4][x5][y1][y2][y3][y4][y5]
I need to chart (scatter) these figures as paired x,y variables for display on a feedback report such as
x1,y1 x2,y2 x3,y3 x4,y4 x5,y5
For some reason i simply can't wrap my head around haw to make this happen.
Hi. Im a beginner-intermediate access user (I guess) and I am working on a stakeholder management database, which essentially enables me to separate organisations, individuals, the affiliation between the two, and addresses of either individual or organisation. (pic of relationships included).
Originally, I stored address values on each respective table (ie. org address was on the org table, individual address on the individual table). However then it became apparent that one organisation (in my line of business) can have many address sites, therefore the need to nominate multiple addresses.
So I figured that the best method would be to have an address repository, and orgs or individuals are assigned to that address via a MultiAddress table. The preferred postal address would be nominated by an address preferred field in another junction table.
Seems to work ok through the form (see form pic attached), but Im concerned that when I try to run queries/reports that I'll get duplications or other anomalies.
Hi guys. I'm a bit of a noob with Access. I have a table which is 15 rows by 250,000 columns. So there are about 3.75m records.
What I need to do is to get access to export a number of csv files automatically from this table.
I need each csv file to contain all the data in the table for a certain range of rows. This is determined by a value in a particular column. This is a sample of the table.
http://i30.tinypic.com/aljf5s.jpg
Basically Store_Nbr represents a UID for a particular store. All the data is currently in one big table, and I need a single csv file for each different store_nbr (so it contains all the data in the table for each unique store). Also, for each store_nbr, there are different Year Month of Surveys. For each store_nbr, I need a different csv file for each Year Month of Survey. This will probably divide up the 250,000 long table into about 200 csv files, as there are about 50 different Store_nbrs, and there are 4 surveys for each individual store.
Sorry if I've not made myself perfectly clear.
I'm sure there's a simple way of doing it, but I really do suck with access and was wondering if you guys had any idea.
