Multiple Link Import

Feb 6, 2008

Hi

I have a situation whereby I need to create a db that will link to a directory of images, I have successfully got access to link to an image and create a record but to add 1 image at a time would be unproductive. The user should be able to highlight multiple images and then have access create a new record for each image (link). Any support or suggestions would be greatfully accepted.

Thanks

How To Link Data On The Import

Oct 5, 2013

I accepted a month long job in putting together an Access database for a trucking company. I don't know how to make the incoming data know that it is related to its perspective field in other tables. Also, I am not understanding is how to link the tables. I have a main table with all the data. It is by date, and has all transactions, which Access assigned a number per transaction as the primary key. Then I have an Employee table (the truck drivers), a Customer table (the truck driver's company), an employee productivity table (includes wages, pay rate, Emp names, etc) and a truck table.

I tried linking the tables, but not sure if it is correct. I linked the Customer and Employee table via an EmpID foreign key in the Customer table. The employee productivity table is linked to the employee table via an EmpProd foreign key in the employee table. And the Customer table is linked to the truck table via a Cust foreign key in the Truck table. The table with all data is indexed to the Emp table, and under relationships the arrow points from the Emp table to the all data table, but there is no one to many (etc.) relationship because I did not know how to establish one. I tried reversing the arrow, but it wouldn't let me. I don’t even know the difference between an indexed link verses a relationship link.

The data itself is not linked. The Employees in the employee table does not know that it is the same field in the other tables. The all data table has EmpName daily info with only about 20 names, but about 4,000 fields. I listed the 20 names in the EmpName field of the tblEmp, but do not understand how to make both tables realize that it is the same field. It does not seem to realize that it is the same field because it does not rearrange the two field data with the correct data. I have this problem with all my tables.

So when I need to add the rest of the data, I don’t think the data knows where to go.

What am I doing wrong?

(I am using Access 2007 at work, and completed a class on 2010.)

Import / Link Excel File

Apr 22, 2005

look for the best method. I have another software to work with my access. End of each month, ProgramA will generate an excel file with the monthly data. I want to import/link it with my access. I first try to import it everytime I generate the new excel file. However, there are one line at the end of the excel file with does not match the feild requirment, and generate an error table in access saying a number field cannot have string.

Then I try the link method instead. This time, it would work at all. The first time is OK, but the next time, I guess more lines are generate than the orginal in the excel file, it could not open up. Number of columns is the same.

The best method right now is to delete the last line of the new generated excel file, however, because I am not the one using it, I want to have a better method for my co-workers.

Are there ways to import excel data except the last line;
or
Are there ways to import excel file without an error table generate

Thanks :)

Excel Import Link To Access Is Broken - Data Won't Update

Apr 12, 2014

I have a workbook which has links to access to import data. I have to have the information in Excel for a couple reasons:

1.) Many of our customers don't have Access.
2.) The customers use a "discount calculator" to apply their own discounts.

They also use it to then apply their own margin mark ups to be able to then use to quote to their customers. So a static report/pdf for them to look at doesn't work.

I've begun to create links from a number of queries in Access, which work fine. My problem is when I go to update the data. I'm not getting the following error coming up:

The database definitely hasn't moved. And I've run the queries in q, and there aren't any problems there. I've looked this error up and I'm seeing that it could mean that I've got some corruption going on.

Before I hit my main q, I should also note: I'm running all of this on a Citrix network. I should also note that it's a consulting gig. Once I'm done, I won't be available to fix major issues like this.

General :: Cannot Use ODBC To Import From / Export To / Or Link To External Microsoft Access

Mar 16, 2014

I am trying to create an ODBC link to a copy of the Northwind data base.I am running Win7 on a 64 bit operating system but am keeping office running as 32 bit for Access, Excel , Visio etc due to the fact that I have a lot of old apps tied to them.

When I attempted initially to create a new system DSN ODBC connection it only allowed me to use SQL drivers. (No plurry good) So after some searching I found out that I could use a file in C:WindowsSysWOW64 called "odbcad32.exe" which has allowed me to view /use the total list of drivers to import data.So I can set up a DNS ODBC named Northwind1 and I can access the database without problems using Excel. However if I try to use the same ODBC link in Access to connect to Northwind1 I get the following error message:"You cannot use ODBC to import from export to, or link an external ?Microsoft Access or ISAM database table to your database".

Import Excel Data From Multiple Sheets Into Multiple Tables In Access

Aug 25, 2012

I would like to know which way is the best way to import excel data from multiple sheets in to multiple tables in access.

For example data from Sheet1 -> Table1, Sheet2->Table2, Sheet3->Table3 etc...

I have tried using this:
Cmd.TransferSpreadsheet acImport, acSpreadsheetTypeExcel5, "Table1", "C:Importedfile.xlsx", True, "Sheet1!"

Ironically, data from Sheet2 and Sheet3 seem to be properly imported in to table2 and table3, but some of the data from Sheet1 seems to be missing in Table1 after import.

Any other ways to import the data?

Modules & VBA :: Import Multiple Fix Width Text Files - Eliminate Multiple Headers And Footers

Aug 1, 2013

I am trying to build a newer database 2010, based on an older one,2000, that has been locked tight and I cannot see the modules to kinda get a reference of where to start. I am trying to find a VBA code that will allow me to import a several text files to one table. The text files are all in the same format but I cannot remove the page headers and footers to get the table to look right. I have attached an example of the text file i am trying to import but it is a stripped down version for information protection.

Also, it appears in the old Database Table once imported as:

J.Smith 1234 01 ABCD ABCD HGJV 2345 ABCDE ABC6 Qual Date Date
J.Smith 1234 01 ABCD ABCD HGJV 2345 ABCDE ABC6 Qual Date Date
J.Smith 1234 01 ABCD ABCD HGJV 2345 ABCDE ABC6 Qual Date Date
J.Adam 1234 01 ABCD ABCD HGJV 2345 ABCDE ABC6 Qual Date Date
J.Adam 1234 01 ABCD ABCD HGJV 2345 ABCDE ABC6 Qual Date Date
J.Adam 1234 01 ABCD ABCD HGJV 2345 ABCDE ABC6 Qual Date Date

If I could import the text files and end up with a table like this, it would be all i need as i could run all the queries i need from this.

Possible To Link Fields Through Multiple Tables?

Dec 6, 2012

What I have is a table ('tblJobLog') with our main listing in it where we add customer job information as it comes in. The 'Customer Name' is a dropdown list that links to our table 'tblCustomers' so that we can ONLY select a customer name that we deal with. The alternative is to add a customer or list them as COD.

Now this is where I would like to target, the COD's. We still like to keep a record of who the COD is and we have some common customers that are listed as COD only.... So when we go to enter the customer name we have to put COD and in the description we are suppose to input the customer name (We will says RandyShop <--- me, for now).

What I would like to have done, if possible, is to see when we select 'RandysShop' from the dropdown, it checks to see if the COD Status (in the 'tblCustomers' table) is set to YES (its a check box, or YES/NO field). If it is set to YES (or selected) then the change the name shown in my main 'tblJobLog' to look something like COD: RandysShop.

The reason I would like, if possible, to do it this way, is because some customer go on and off COD regularly as the mess around with payment. So instead of creating a new customer that is listed as COD: RandysShop to have access do the leg work based on a simple YES/NO field (COD Status).

Import Multiple Tables From Paradox

Mar 21, 2007

hi
i have an application that has to import data from paradox tables and create reports based on those tables. I am using Access 2003 and the paradox database is 4.0 . I know how to import a batch of files from code but my problem is that the paradox database has some tables that are split in different folders according to the month they were recorded (it's an accounting program )
so a table exists with the same name in each month folder and the problem is that they have id's starting from 0 each month so I cannot append them easily
I do not know how many tables that type I will need so I have to keep track of them through a different table so I cannot create individual queries for them.

does anyone have an idea what I could do?

thanks

please let me know if you have a solution.

Import Multiple Excell Files

Jan 16, 2008

Super new to the forums and hoping I can find an answer here.
After looking for an hour or so on Microsoft's site, I gave up and decided to venture into new resources.

My ultimate goal is to create a form that will prompt a user to select a Microsoft Excel file and then run a macro. The macro should import the Excel file into a single table based off of what form is being run. The idea is to have a single form for each employee of a specific department and have the form import information that is stored on our phone server into access. I've set up most of the macro but the argument section of the filename is what's hanging me up.

So finally my question;
Is there a way to have a macro run to specify what file you want to import when using an additional macro? Am I going about this the completely wrong way and should stick to VB Code?

I look forward to your responses, thank you in advanced!

Import Multiple Excel Sheets To Access DB

Oct 18, 2006

I've been trying to load data from multiple excel worksheets in multiple workbooks into one table in Access. The first one loads fine, but after that I get errors and can't load anything else. All of the sheets are in the same format, so that shouldn't be the problem. Every solution I've tried has been a bust. All I want is to take all of my data and put it into one big database. Any suggestions?

Import From Excel Multiple Field Problem

Jan 10, 2007

Hello,

Not sure I posted to the correct forum, but here goes

I would like to import an excel sheet into a new access table. However I am having problems
with multiple fields.

Lets say for instance that in my excel sheet I have the following fields

Field nameName ExamExam_scoreDate
PurgeMaths607-01-2007

--------------------------

Then I import that into a table. Then that is no problem, but then going back to the excel sheet I have noticed that one study could take many different exams. Hence the below

NameExamExam_scoreDate
PurgeEnglish707-01-2007

------------------------
we have a problem in the table because the fields begin to multiply if Purge has taken 20 exams

fieldname
name
exam
exam_score
date
exam2
exam_score2
exam3
exam_score3
exam4

and so on....can you imagine if I hit 40?

I was thinking maybe I could add some lookup field to a cell in excel or access? Am I on the correct path? Since I want to import, but the multiple fields/columns are getting in the way.

Can I Batch Import Multiple Excel Files?

Jun 22, 2007

I have 100 or so 2-sheet excel workbooks. I need to import them all into an access table for analysis. They are all exactly the same format/layout etc but obviously have different data in them (they are customer satisfaction surveys). I only want to export 1 out of the 2 sheets on each workbook (the other is a front end, the data sits behind in sheet 2).

So, at the moment I have to go to 'get external data' > 'import' > select excel and then double click each file individually and then go through the import wizard. Now, I can get them all into one table but it's clearly time consuming.

Is there anyway of doing a batch import of multiple excel files to cut out the manual work described above? Or can anyone suggest a lateral get around?

Any help much appreciated. I should say that I am running excel 2003 and access XP (2002)

Matt

Import Multiple Text Files Into Single Table

Dec 18, 2004

Hello everyone!

Here is my problem:
I have an Access database that contains a table with three columns (A & B & C). Field A is for code values and field B is for the value for that particular code. Field C holds the case number. I have a folder that contains the information for over 5000 case numbers. Each case number needs to be placed inside of the table. Considering there are 5000 case numbers, I dont want to use the import wizard 5000 times.

Furthermore, the text file only has two columns (for A and B).

I am trying to create a VBA that will append rows to the table by going into each file and placing the information into the table. The first row for each file contains the case number. So when the VBA runs, it should open the text file get the case number from the first row (field B on the text file) and place that in the case number field of the table for the entire file; and then repeat this action for all of the files in the entire folder.

Any help that can be provided will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
