Now, I'm not a (complete) newbie when it comes to Access, but this is stumping me to the point that my head hurts from the desk banging. :p
There are two tables in the database, tbl_minerID and tbl_collection with a one-to-many relationship from tbl_minerID to tbl_collection. tbl_minerID contains a column populated by autonumber and a name column (tied to cbo_name on the form). The form allows you to type in a record for various values, which then ties that entry to the minerID so that only those records display for the name selected in cbo_name.
At least that's how it used to work. Now, no matter what I do, I get a type mismatch error in my VBA code (copied exact from the working copy, with names changed) which directs me to: rs.FindFirst "[MinerID] = " & Str(Nz(Me![cbo_name], 0)) Totally stumped on this, and hoping someone can point me in the right direction. Advance thanks for any assistance you can give :)
I'm trying to set up a simple query that links four tables. However, the tables are extremely large, all in excess of 1.5GB each so I had to split the tables up into four separate DBs. I've tried the following with no success:
1) Link the 4 tables in the DB which contains my primary key. This quickly inflates increases the file size above 2GB and won't let me go any further.
2) Build a remote query to connect the four tables. This looked promising until I tried to run the query and it became evident that it only knows to point to the last database source that you specified.
I'm running everything locally on my C drive. The data source are simple text files (1.6 million rows) from the FDA website.
Is Access set up to handle multiple people entering data into the same table?
We are processing returned mail and enter all the bad addresses into an Access table. The data is simply entered into the bare table. Can two people be doing this at once without the risk of compromising the data?
I'm creating databases that houses information of the different software versions my company offers. This way they can easily keep track of updates, obsolete info, etc.. I'm trying to decide what way would be most benifcial. I've been leaning more towards creating multiple databases and having a dropdown box in the beginning to open what database(version) you would like to view. Is this the only way, or does anyone have any suggestions on how to make my idea better?? Just trying to Brainstorm, also, I'm only an intern so my experience is limited.:D
I wonder if anyone could give me some advice on a problem i have with an access database.
I have designed a database and a data input form to collect data that is input by workers, the problem i have is that only one person can enter a record at a time.
I curently use 2 replicated database's on two seperate computers and run the synchronisation once one person has finished so that all the changes are replicated to the 2 different databases
If there is any other easier way to accomplish this i would be very greatful if anybody can shed some light on the subject.
I created a database and a form on it that i enter myself right now. I am planning on using this database on several PCs with different users. Currently I have this database on the network, but when multiple people try to access it at the same time they cannot access without saving a separate copy or just having read access.
I need to put my Database to work with multiple users.
1- I already have divide the database; 2- I already have made the file accde of the front-end file; 3- I already have put the two files: back-end and front-end on the network server.
My problem now is that if I open a Form to register data the other User can't open the same form to add data. What I must do to work in the same form with multiple user?
I am creating a database for vehicles in my town. I need to document multiple images per car. How can I do this? Ive tried Image and Bound Object frame in Design view but it seems that I can only add one picture per record...
I have my database on a server and i want 2 or more users to access that database from different stations at the same time. I am using MS Access 2010, what do i need to do and how do i do it to allow more than one person on my database? The database contains 2 tables - table 1 has 1,450,00 records - table 2 will be populated with some of the records from table 1.Table 2 is empty.3 sub-forms - 1 main form and 1 report (for labels).
Both tables have the same fields, but not all the fields are filled in and each user will be filling in the fields required. Each record is a case, and no more than one user will be assigned to a case.I need at least 2 users working on my database at the same time, i would like to have 4 users working on this database if possible.
Another baffling problem - there are far more traps for new players than I ever imagined. Any suggestions gratefully received.
I have a fe/be split database with multiple users on a network. All users have the same front end on their PCs and are either running Access 2000 or 2003.
Problem 1:
Some users cannot open the database at all, getting the error message "Could not open xxxxx.mdb - File already in use."
Problem 2:
Some users can open the database but get a message in the status bar saying "Recordset not updateable."
Other users, running either Access 2000 or 2003 have been able to use the database without difficulty. The number of users is in single figures and it is unlikely that more than 4 people have attempted to log on simultaneously.
The database default open mode is set to "shared", the default record locking is set to "No locks" and the "Open database using record-level locking box is checked".
I have been having difficulties setting the security for the database (see other postings on this site) and so it is currently unsecured with no password set for the admin user. Users are joined to their default system Workgroup Information Files.
My guess is that there is a setting on the Access installation of the user's PC that needs to be changed but this is only a guess - anybody any idea what I should try next?
Im working on a cross comparison database for the three food vendors for my boss. What is the best way to search across the three tables? They all have similar record titles but arent all uniform, and I cant change the records because I have to have the record names the same as the files that are being exported from the vendors websites. What would be the easiest way to search across three similar but not uniform tables in one database? Ive also tried to make three buttons to update the lists after I download the items to have up-to-date prices on the products but am unsure if they are actually working correctly.
We have an access Database stored on a server that until now was only ever accessed by the one user. Now more users need to access it at the same time. However when a second user trys to open the database the error message "File Already in use appears". I did not create this database so have no idea how it was set up. I think it may have something to do with being opened up exclusively. Is there anyway around this by creating a short cut or changing any kind of propertties?
Hi is it possible for multiple users to use the same interface to write to a access database ? i know multiple users can open an access DB but can they use a form to update a table at the same time ?
Hi all, i hope this is posted in the right place first of all :) apologies if not..
I have about 8 individual databases which will be used simultaneously by users. I wish to be able to have full control over these databases from a 'master database' including being able to delete the data in there (possibly import fresh data but not 100% needed) and export data to be analysed in Excel etc I figure this can be done with access but if i'm on the totally wrong track i would be appreciative if someone could give me a push in the right direction..
If any more infomation is needed then let me know.
I need help with an access 2000 multiple queries problem.
I have the following:
Table 1 = info below / table 2 = computer types / table 3 = offices 1 through 10
field 1 = name (20 employees) field 2 = computer (5 different type of computers) field 3 = office (10 different offices) field 4 = issued field 5 = not issued field 6 = stolen
On a form I have the 2 combo boxes (computer and office) to select and check boxes to select issued or not issued or stolen.
I need a report printed based on the multiple criteria query only showing the results that I ask for. For e.g. in office 5, computer IBM, issued. Print Report: lists names of all in office 5, with IBM’s, issued only! etc.
I've developed a ASP.NET website which connects to a secured access database (user/pwd combos with an .mdw file) and allows users to enter data into the database. After the "due date" the system is locked and the database is transferred to a local computer via FTP for processing. Using a VB program and MS Access Reports, the data is printed out in a convenient format and distributed.
Recently, the more users that use my system the more frequently I've encountered problems with connecting to the database. I've been told that access databases are not designed to be used in a multiuser environment and that I should use MS SQL or mySQL instead.
My users report occasional errors and the debug information on the error page shows an 'unspecified error' prompted by a OLEDBConnection object's open method. Secondly, occasionally in the FTP site I see .ldb locking files with 10-20 locks on the database and the .mdw file held by the web application. I'm using a utility class that connects to the db in the constructor and closes the connection in its finalize method.
Code:Protected oConnection as OleDbConnectionProtected Sub Initialize() sConnString as String sConnString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0....the rest of the connection string with data source and passwords oConnection = New OleDbConnection(sConnString) oConnection.Open()End SubProtected Overrides Sub Finalize()oConnection.Dispose()End Sub
First, is there something wrong with this code? Is it not being run at the initialization and finalization of each page load? Secondly, is there any way to avoid db connection errors without moving to ms sql?
Greetings. When I create an Access database on my company's "secure" server (through a PIX box), I get this message in a dialog box when I try to open the database again: "Open File - Security Warning. Do you want to open this file?" It then gives the file Name, Publisher (unknown publisher), Type (Microsoft Office Access Application), and From (the file path and name). The bottom of the dialog box has this message: "While files from the Internet can be useful, this file type can potentially harm your computer. If you do not trust the source, do not open this software." When I click on the "Open" command button, the file opens just fine.
There are a couple of things going on here:
1) When I open this same database or any other Access database on another of my company's servers that is not protected by a PIX box, I do not get this dialog box.
2) When two users try to access an MS Access database on the "secure" server, the first user will get in, but the second user will not. The second user will not get ANY warning messages -- nothing happens. This occurs if the second user tries to open the database by either double-clicking on a shortcut on the desktop or by double-clicking on the file name in Windows Explorer. Note that the second user CAN access the same file if s/he starts up MS Access from scratch, and then chooses FILE>OPEN from the main menu.
My goal is to be able to let multiple users access the MS Access databases on the secure server by either double-clicking on the shortcut icon or by double-clicking on the file name in Windows Explorer.
I thought perhaps that the "unknown publisher" issue might be part of the problem on the secure server. So I created a certificate using the utility "SELFCERT", went into the database, went into Visual Basic (Ctrl-G), went into TOOLS>DIGITAL SIGNATURE and assigned the digital signature, and re-saved the file. I then exited the file, went back in, and the dialog box still pops up saying the file's publisher is "unknown publisher"! If I go back into Visual Basic, the database is clearly marked as digitially signed by me. I don't know why the initial dialog box is still showing that the file is not digitally signed.
If anyone has any thoughts about these issues (multiple users not being able to access the same Access database, and why my file is saying it is still not digitally signed), I would appreciate your input. FYI, I am on a Windows XP workstation and our company users Windows Servers.
Hi, this question is more about Microsoft Access than it is about ASP. However it involves a database that I am setting up for a website being written in ASP.
I have a table which is going to store business details. Every business belongs to a business category and related subcategory. For example Garages and MOT Centre.
I want to store up to 5 categories for each business. Is it possible to link to the categories and subcategories tables for each of the 5 category fields in the business table?
Basically, I'm compiling a table of funding sources and whilst all the fields are relatively straight forward, how best to approach the matter of where the funding is available. For example, Funding A is available in America only, Funding B is available in America, Canada and Europe and Funding C is available Internationally etc (a huge number of possible options and infinite different combinations). How's best for me to lay this out because there will be hundreds of funding sources all with different availability criteria? If the field name is 'Countries funding is available', can a data type input be multiple entries?
Ultimately I'll want to be able to query show all funding sources available internationally or show those available to America and Canada only etc...and when I query on another field or show all, I'll want to see where each of the funding sources are available, listed out .
