I'm having a bit of a problem with a query that I am trying to run that searches a memo field, and I hope someone can help me!
Basically, I have a fairly simple database, 2 tables - 1 of the tables has a memo field which has 'keywords' listed in it (a mixture of words/phrases separated by commas, although I've tried with just spaces in between).
When I search using a Query box for 2 keywords using the following query, it can only find the correct records when I enter the keywords in the reverse order in which they appear in the memo field...
query: Like "*" & [Enter the 1st keyword to search for] And Like "*" & [Enter the 2nd keyword to search for] & "*"
If the memo field has data eg, "funding, teaching" (as opposed to "funding, nursing" for example) and I search for 'funding' and then 'teaching' - no results appear.
If however, I search for 'teaching' and then 'funding'... ta da! Result found.
Obviously, whoever searches the database isn't necessarily going to know what order the words were entered into the memo field!
So, is this a peculiarity to Access, or is there something I'm doing wrong?
tblSFDC (contact information) includes CustID (primary key) and a memo field "Notes"
tblTheCall (call information) includes CustID (relates to tblSFDC) and "activity data fields" ie "Live", Left Message" , Sent email".
tblTheCall may in some cases have multiple records for each CustID
I need to : Concatenate from tblTheCall Field Names and field values (that are not null) Insert into tblSFDC.Notes Where tblTheCall.CustID = tblSFDC.CustID
In 2002, I set up a database with Access 97 which included a table with a memo field. Through the years, the database has moved from Windows XP and Access 97 to Windows 7 and Access 2007. Recently, the memo data has been difficult to edit (the display will move away from the cursor, or a new record will be inserted).
It appears to be logically straightforward to convert the memo data into multiple text fields as the memo field can be parsed for dates of entry.
I have an Access database where we grade reports. At the end of the grading form I have a memo field [Comments] for the grader to enter comments about why the report received the grade [Grade]. Each report is graded by multiple people. So for example, ReportNum 08-001 may be graded by 5 people and therefore will have 5 records in the database. I need a report to show all the comments for all the reports where the grade is <80. I know how to do this except for how to display all the comments from the memo field in the 5 records on one report for that ReportNum.
I have a table that contains a memo that is delimited by line breaks. For each of these breaks i need a new record in the query results that i can then use in a Labelling application.
My current query looks something like:
ID | Product | Pack Size 1 | item a | 1x1000,1x1050 2 | item b | 1x1000,20x25 3 | item a | 1x1000
(Where the , is a new line)
Whereas my ideal output is:
ID | Product | PackSize 1 | Item a | 1x1000 1 | Item a | 1x1050 2 | Item b | 1x1000 2 | Item b | 20x25 etc.
I think im supposed to use the Split() Function though i dont have a clue wherw to start.
I am trying to update a memofield from a form.My file.. sign_midi.asp has this partial code.First I pick up the record I want to update. And then present it in a form. " <tr> <td align="right" height=10 valign="top"><b>Beskrivning :</b></td> <td align="left" height=10 valign="top" width=250><TEXTAREA WRAP="soft" name="M1" cols="65" rows="8"><% = rs("text")%>
Is there a way I can take each entry in a memo field and put it into a text field in a separate table. The database is getting really big and the customer notes field for each record has lots of entries. The memo field looks like this:
I want to take each line and put put the date in a date field and the text in a text field in a separate table linked by CustID. Is there a way to do that?
Hey y'all, my question this morning is concerning doing a multiple field query in Access. I have a lot of experience with both SQL and Access, but have never had to do something like this.
I have a form with a text field for every row in a table (so there are 15 text boxes), and I want the user to be able to type in any data they know for any number of fields, from 0-15 rows. So I want each text box to be matched on (Like '*'&[data]&'*'). My problem is that if I say "where x=x AND y=y" and so on and so forth, it brings up all fields, because there are wildcards on each end of an empty string. I also have problems with just doing OR for each field, because it only matches on one field, even if they entered data into 4 fields. I'm so confused!!!! Did this make any sense? Any Ideas?
This is the trimmed down part of the query that is causing the result.
Code: SELECT [tblP&E].PnE_ID, tblUsage.Measurement AS UOM, IIf([tblUsage]![Week_Ending]=#6/20/2014#,[tblUsage]![Usage],"") AS [June 20], IIf([tblUsage]![Week_Ending]=#6/27/2014#,[tblUsage]![Usage],"") AS [June 27], IIf([tblUsage]![Week_Ending]=#7/4/2014#,[tblUsage]![Usage],"") AS [July 4], IIf([tblUsage]![Week_Ending]=#7/11/2014#,[tblUsage]![Usage],"") AS [July 11] FROM tblUsage RIGHT JOIN ([tblP&E] LEFT JOIN tblCosts ON [tblP&E].[PnE_ID] = tblCosts.[PnE_ID]) ON tblUsage.PNE_ID = [tblP&E].PnE_ID;
I've exported some data which has 3-4 address line within the same field which is very odd.
The row has all the usual data, but when I look at the data in datasheet view the adresss line 1 shows only but when I click into the field and press down, more address info comes up. Is there any way to have this on one row within the field rather than multiple.
A bit like in Excel when you Alt+Tab in a cell it drops down but is the same cell, well this exactly like that in Access 2003.
I am in the process of changing over a text field to a memo field to generate more space (in 5 different databases  ) Thanks to all the good info on several searches of this forum, I am pretty clear on how to do that.
The question is... when I convert a field that already has information in it, will I lose the current information?
when i change records, my subform that has a memo field, shows the memo field data is "highlighted". i can make a mistake and hit any keyboard key and the memo field data will get erased.
is there a way to prevent such a problem?
if not, is there a work around. eg, hide the memo field until needed for more input? ideas on both issues?
I have a table which has each claim as a single record. A client wishes us to provide the data in a format that lists the each procedure on its own line. I have attached a highlevel example of what the data currently looks like and what the query results should look like.So I need to create a query that would repeat the Claim Number and place all the Procedure fields into one field.
modify the code below to Show the LocationName in the Schema Column instead of the MPID? I attached a pic showing the relationship between the two tables which contain the data I'm trying to query.
SELECT [Locations Query].LocID, Qry_MPLoc.MPID AS Qry_MPLoc_MPID, [Locations Query].Location, [Locations Query].Schema FROM [Locations Query] INNER JOIN Qry_MPLoc ON [Locations Query].[LocID] = Qry_MPLoc.[LocID];
I have a table where there are multiple vehicles, each identified by their vehiclenumber. Each record holds the vehiclenumber, date and odometer reading. I need to figure out how to calculate records in this table per each vehiclenumber.
Below is a code that works, but only when i have each vehicle with the same vehiclenumber.
SELECT tblOdometer.VehicleNum, tblOdometer.ODate, tblOdometer.Odometer, tblOdometer.Odometer AS OdomAlias, Nz(DLast("Odometer","tblOdometer","[Odometer] < " & [OdomAlias]),0) AS Previous, [Odometer]-[Previous] AS Difference FROM tblOdometer;
For my study on academic research I need to match patents that refer to academic research as prior work with the actual prior work.
I have two tables (see attached images below).
One regarding AcademicPublications (AP), which is neatly organized with title, year, journal, volume, pages, first author, etc... 480,000 rows
One regarding Patentswhere all this information is hidden within one field, in the most messy way possible... for instance, a field could have:
Quote:
Sugita et al, "Nonsurgical Implantation of a Vascular Ring Prosthesis Using Thermal Shape Memory Ti/Ni Alloy (Nitionl Wire)," Trans. Amer. Soc. Artif. Intern. Organs, vol. 23, pp. 30-34.
or
Quote:
Willingham et al., Cell 13, 501-507 (1978).
Or many other ways.
I want to create a new table that is set up like this:
The question is: How do I match different fields from one table on one field of another and make it return another field (the ID)? Some references are too horrible to match, but I need as many as I can get.
I can imagine two queries would give me the bulk:
A match in [Title] AND [Year]
A match on ([SourceTitle] OR [AbbreviatedSourceTitle] ) AND [Volume] AND [Year] AND [PageStart]
I understand that I have to make use of the Like "*"&[value]&"*", but how do I make it return the matching ID?
I have two tables, Students and AttendanceRecords.
Students just has studentID and studentName
AttendanceRecords has AttRecID, studentID, presence, thedate
I'm looking to create what looks like an Excel grid, with the last 10 days as columns and the student names as rows. All the cells in middle will be filled with the values of 'presence' for that student/day (e.g., P for present, A for absent).
Here's something I'm currently considering.
-I could make 10 queries, each using LEFT JOIN to connect studentName with presence & thedate on studentID, varying the 10 queries only in that 'thedate' will have a criteria of Date() -1 , Date() -2 , etc. -If I'm understanding it correctly, I'll then have 10 tables, each containing 3 rows -- student name, presence, and the date (with each table having only 1 date repeated throughout). -I could then join those 10 queries together on studentName, theoretically resulting in 1 big table with all the student names and the corresponding presence values for the last 10 days
If I do that, I could make a form in Continuous view and have each row show the studentName and 10 text boxes closely bunched up with presence values.
That seems very inefficient? Making 10 queries separately and then manually merging them seems redundant.
Also, now that I think about it, will the final product end up being read-only, or if the user changes one of the presence cells will it update the corresponding record in AttendanceRecord?
I am linking to an SQL database that is designed in such a way that the problem description is recorded in multiple records. See a simplified example below. I want to run a query that will merge the information in the PROBLEM_DESCRIPTION and return only one record for PROB_ID 55678.
PROB_ID ORIGINATOR DATE PROBLEM_DESCRIPTION 55678 Jim 01/01/2015 While cleaning my computer, I noticed 55678 Jim 01/01/2015 the screen was cracked. I called 55678 Jim 01/01/2015 the IT department and they said I had 55678 Jim 01/01/2015 to write a work order. However it 55678 Jim 01/01/2015 was rejected without reason.
I am trying to make a query that outputs the minimum "Need Year" AND ALSO if the need year was equal to 9999 it shows "NO DATA".
This is what I have so far for checking the minimum value:
field: Need Year: MinofList(PMS_output!pqi_ny,PMS_output!iri_ny,PMS_ output!sdi_ny,pms_output!sai_ny)
I am not sure if I should be putting it in the criteria to check whether this minimum value (need year) equals to 9999 or not and if it does, it says "NO DATA" instead of 9999.
I need to update the periodtype field in my table depending on different values in the field Formtype- I am looking to do this without having to use VBA. I have the following fields in a table - I want to update the value of the field Period_type as follows -
When Formtype is 10-Q, update Periodtype to "Quarterly"
When Formtype is 10-K, update Periodtype to "Annual"
The current value of Periodtype for both formtypes is "Semiannual"
I am trying to get the output of several nested IIF expressions to show in only one filed in the table created. The output needs to be captured in a table. I am staring with create table to get it to work before I go ahead and use the sql to update the original table (the table the data is from)
I can get each to run fine independently and the whole thing runs too, the issue is it wants to put each expression in a new column, thus it is forcing me to label the expression.
Can I change this to only output in one column or add some more sql to do so?
Here is the SQL (table and filed names have been changed to protect the innocent)
BTW, I cannot change the Table the data comes from, I am stuck with the single table structure (BOO).
************************************************** ************* SELECT TABLE1.ID, IIf([TABLE1]![STAGE]="D", IIf([TABLE1]![PROJ_ACTUAL_D_DATE] Is Not Null,"Tier 1", IIf([TABLE1]![APPROVAL_D]="Y","Tier 2",
I am working with 4 tables and I am trying to get a count of the email address field in each table grouped by Email Group Name. I tried the dcount function but returned an error because some of the email addresses have an apostrophe in the field. Is there a way to do this in 1 query? This is an example of the result I would like:
I have 2 tables (person / merit) currently the merti table has 4 fields (MeritID, PersonID, Issuer, Type) I'm trying to count the the Type field 7 times, once of each type (MC/MI/MN/MP/MS/MV) and once to count a grand total.
I want to produce a query to use in a mail merge that will list the total for each merit type and one grand total.
I've been trying a few different things including sub queries but I've not managed to get the query to produce a single record that counts each individual type.
