I have a database we use to enter new account numbers and several other atribbutes about the account and it is split into a FE/BE with the BE in a shared folder. I have the open database using record-level locking checked but it seems to me that the database is opening up with page-level locking. Multiple users will receive a message that the current record is locked and I am sure that they are all not updating the same record. Does anybody have any idea's of what I can do? If nothing else I am going to have to recreate my form as an unbound form and see how that goes.
The company I work for has inventory at our physical location (our shop) and we also have inventory on trucks. I need to track the inventory in the shop and trucks so that when items get below a certain preset level I can run a report to find out how many of each part I need in each location. Create purchase orders and receive the inventory to whichever location I need it at. I would like to at some point be able to track where the parts are going.
I have a 2000/2003 format database used only for reporting.
It has linked tables to an SQL Server database.
It automatically opens a form with two buttons on it (no data) and hides the database window and the regular menu, replacing it with my own toolbar.
The default open mode for the database is "Shared." The default record locking for the database is "No Locks" On the opening form, the record locking is set to "no locks."
Yesterday, no problem for two of us to share it.
However, when I open it on my computer (not to edit - to use. I simply open it - not in exclusive mode.), and then another person opens it, they get the message that says "the database has been placed in a state by "Admin" on machine (my machine) that is locked and will not be able to be opened." (not verbatim, but close.)
When the other person opens it first and then I try to open it, I get a message that I don't have exclusive access and will not be able to save changes. I have to hit okay about 6 times, but then it opens.
Some users at off-site locations are having problems sharing - some are not.
I am creating a form that has a bunch of yes/no box for daily task. Is there a way for access to record which user selects yes/no.
For example
yes/no box1 - user 1 completed this task yes/no box2 - user 2 completed this task and so on
So when i look back i can see which user complete which task. I did a bit of research and saw that i can save a user that update a record. But since this is a daily task, each new record will be a new day.
Code : .OpenDataSource Name:=CurrentProject.FullName, SQLStatement:="SELECT * FROM [qryMailMerge]"
The error (Error has occurred: The database has been placed in a state by user 'Admin' on machine 'W74XXXXXX' that prevents it from being opened or locked) appears in the Word document.
Code: Public Sub CreateWordToPDF(strWordFile As String, strPDFFile As String, strSQL As String) 'Call CreateWordToPDF("C:Doc1.doc", "C:Doc1.pdf", "SELECT * FROM [qryMailMerge]")
Dim objWord As Word.Application Dim docWord As Word.Document 'Open MS Word using early binding. Set objWord = New Word.Application Set docWord = objWord.Documents.Open(strWordFile)
I am building a form to create a user record and at the same time i have some yes/no options which are located in other tables but when i want add a user i cannot select any yes/no options they seem locked?
First of all hi everyone, im lookin for some advice
i have database setup with record level locking for multiple users (havent decided weather its should be optimstic or pesimistic yet)
however either way i set this there is no idication that the record is opened/locked by another user is there an easy way to say pop up a msgbox when a user enters a record to say this is in use/locked and show who by using the username?
hi, am trying to create an application for a company that has a small call-center (strength 20). the db is in the central server and each caller sits with frontend on their computer. the central DB is shared on the network which these 20 PCs are accessing.
The frontend: 1 Form only which is based on a query that displays records. Form Lock property: Edited Records Query Property: Edited Records
As the telecaller starts calling the customer looking at the records, they are not able to edit certain records as the respective record is locked by MS-Access when am sure that no other telecaller has opened the particular record.
I'm going live with my DB tomorrow morning. I wanted to to Edited Records for my lock type but ran into a problem, this weekend when I took it to our office and had it on multiple computers for the first time. (I've been designing at my house, in my spare time (right), so I couldn't test for the problem I have now.) When a user is on a record and I open the same record up on another computer it locks ok and shows in the Record Selector that it's locked but if I begin to tab through the form I have at least one code that pukes. In my LastName field, in the On Exit event, I have the following code: If Not (IsNull(Me.LastName)) Then Me.LastName = StrConv(Me.LastName, vbProperCase) End If As I try to Exit this field, only when the record is locked, the code pukes. Can some one lend a hand and give some advise on how to prevent this?
I have done some serious searching and have discovered that many others have posted this question, but I couldn't find any satisfactory answers.
I have a FE/BE Access 2000 database in a multi-user environment. I have my default record locking set to "No Locks" (optimistic), but for unknown reasons, some records still lock. The records are viewed via a form, which is also set to "No Locks." We only have about 20 users, so it is rare that two people actually have the same record open at the same time. It seems to be that whole groups of records lock sometimes, despite the fact that I'm using optimistic record locking. Usually if you wait 15-20 minutes it is unlocked. If someone can explain this I would be overjoyed.
But, I can deal with the record locking. The problem is that users have no idea why they can't update a record and no matter how many times I tell them to wait 15 minutes they still come crying to me every time. So, I want to make a message box pop up when they try to update the record that states something like this: "The record is currently locked. Please try again in 15-20 minutes."
If someone could offer some code options and explain where it needs to go (form load, open, etc.) I would be eternally grateful.
I have a database for mutli users which is split. Front end is available separately for 3 users. These users make data entry in the same form from their front end form. This particular form has combo box that retrieves data based on selection in combo box and the use starts filling the data in the subform. Upto this, form is Ok, no problems seen.
But when the second user opens the same form from the split database front end stored in his computer, and once the second user selects another record from the combo box, first user's record also changes immediately to the record of Second user. Both users now have the same record even though the form is separately accessed from front end.
Access 2002 . Can I condition a field to 'locked' on just one record of a continuous form subfile, based on the contents of a 2nd field in same record?
I've seen different log in forms and tips on multi-user use but can't seem to find info on the following...
We have 6 people at work and I'd like to assign which user updated a form or created a new record...this would be particularly useful on the sales part of the database to track who made a call to a particular customer...
I don't appear to be getting any email notifications of posts in threads to which I have subscribed.I have Instant in my profile/userCP, but have not been receiving emails for some time. I edited my preferences today again -- I set it to daily, saved, then reset to instant, and saved. Thought that the edit may tweak some anomaly???
I'm attempting to create a calculated field in a query called 'Test'. It's purpose is to determine if a certain field has a 'c' for closed and then returns the appropriate 3 months in a concatenated string. This previously worked when it was shorter. Now that I extended it for 2011 fields i'm getting an error that it is too long. I'm pasting the below code into the 'field' line of my query.
I am trying to export from Access to Excel. I am relatively new to this process. I am receiving an error that I am not using a valid path. I have tried to recreate the former path without any luck.
What I had done was to delete some old information that was making the former Excel sheet too large and create a more up to date database. I had to reformat the spreadsheet and export the new information to excel but when I pull it in it will not pull into the shared network drive without giving me the error message.
One table with Student Basic Records with Course name and Total Fee
Tabel name Student_Rec and Fields are below ID, StudentName, Course Name, RollNo, Total Fee
then another table name Fee_Details for receiving dues in installments. ID, RollNo, FeeDue, FeePaid, Comments
Now i want the FeeDue Field should show the Balance feedue of each student
I mean it automatically check total fee due from student_Rec table and also check all previous entries for the same rollnumber in Fee_details Table and show the pending amount as FeeDue.
I'm trying to use Access to send an automatic email reply upon receiving a request from a customer/employee, telling them that their request has been received and this is the tracking number and the due date of service completion. How can I do that? And I want it using Outlook because all the contacts are saved in Outlook and all emails sent and received through Outlook. And the version is Access 2010.
I have a database that I splited the tables on one file and queries, forms and macros in another. The front end file (the one with the forms) I published it in our intranet, so when some one clicks on the link a form pops up which is the way it supposed to work. The problem I have is when some other people in my area go to the intranet and click on the link and get the error that the file is read-only and the macro that makes the form open up fails. I checked the file's properties and is NOT read-only, so I don't knwo what the problem is.
I am trying to create a database such that everyone in my company will be able to access it, but without having to install access and put a link to the DB on every computer. Ideally, I would like to have some sort of web applet that uses the DB on a central server and allows users to add and modify entries without having to know anything about Access.
Another baffling problem - there are far more traps for new players than I ever imagined. Any suggestions gratefully received.
I have a fe/be split database with multiple users on a network. All users have the same front end on their PCs and are either running Access 2000 or 2003.
Problem 1:
Some users cannot open the database at all, getting the error message "Could not open xxxxx.mdb - File already in use."
Problem 2:
Some users can open the database but get a message in the status bar saying "Recordset not updateable."
Other users, running either Access 2000 or 2003 have been able to use the database without difficulty. The number of users is in single figures and it is unlikely that more than 4 people have attempted to log on simultaneously.
The database default open mode is set to "shared", the default record locking is set to "No locks" and the "Open database using record-level locking box is checked".
I have been having difficulties setting the security for the database (see other postings on this site) and so it is currently unsecured with no password set for the admin user. Users are joined to their default system Workgroup Information Files.
My guess is that there is a setting on the Access installation of the user's PC that needs to be changed but this is only a guess - anybody any idea what I should try next?
im trying to create a multiple user access database, but i am experincing problems when more then one person is trying to access the same entry fields and this is causing conflicts, the database is stored on a server and is not localised to the network machines. what i would like, is when a form is opened by user 1 (record no 10), user 2 should be able to use the same database form and go to a new record (record no 11) that isnt already in use by user 1.
any advice on enabling the database for multiple user access is welcome.
I have a query that prompts the user to display certain/all of the members in my member table. The problem is, using a parameter query in the memberID field only allows the user to send the message to one member, not multiple members. "1 or 2 or 3" or "1,3" obviously don't work. I've tried creating a form with a list box to select the members (which I;ve done) but obviously you need code and stuff to get it to work which I think will be too complicated. Is there a simpiler way or is the form the only thing that will work? Thanks Kris
I have a database application that i intend to split with the table part on a server and the forms part on each users desktop. It will be used by approx 10 users. While the probability of different users accessing and updating the same form is small, the possibility exists.
Is there a way i can prevent any weird multiple update stuff happening? I'm using Access 2003
I've got this database that needs some users to be read only and some users to have full control. I applied the appropriate ntfs permissions but there is a problem. If a read only users open the database, and then a full control users opens the database its stuck in read-only.
