View RepliesI'm undecided in what I should to to track what an employee does for the day. Currently employees have a 5X7 index card which is printed out fields and they fill it in by hand and turn it in.
Instead of the employees doing this I want to record all of this information in the database.
These are the fields that I will include:
EmployeeName, Book, WorkType, WorkEffort, StartPage, EndPage, StartTime, EndTime, TotalPgsWorked, Comments.
Should I bound all of these fields to the tblWorkLog or should a create unbound fields and create an append query which will add these fields to the table.
I don't want the users to enter their own start time and end time as they might not record it accurately.
Should the time be recorded this way: Have the user open the form, when the form opens that will record the start time. Have the user have the form remained open until the end of the day or when he or she finishes through out the day. When the form is closed that will record the end time.
What is an alternative of doing that though? Have the user open the form record all the info and have the startime recorded. Exit out of the database, when they finish their work, open the database go back to that record and record the end time?
My problem here would be there is no uniqe ID. The user can work on a Book for a week, and can also work on multiple books on the same day. How would they know which record to open.
I'm uncertain how to lay this out and begin it any insight will be greatly appreciated.
Hello,
I'm creating a simple relational database of all the attorneys our company work with. I'd like to have three tables: "Law Firms" (firm name & other info), "Attorneys" (what firm, personal info, and what practice groups s/he is involved in), and lastly "Practice Areas" (all different practice areas with codes).
Now, my issue is that people are usually involved in multiple practice areas. Thus, I can't just put a code for one practice area in "Attorneys" table, but I can't put multiple codes in either in one field (right?) because it'd mess up the relations.
What I'd like to accomplish is for people to be able to go to our intranet and, using a form (?), select a law firm and a practice group and get a list of attorneys.
Does anyone know of a good way to solve this? It doesn't have to be pretty, since the DB isn't going to be huge (2000-2500 records).
Thank you!
Hi
I have a DB for students.
I'm making notes each time we've had a chat.
Is there a possibillity to make a relationsship between 2 tables so I can make multiple records for one person? (or any other way)
For ex. 03-04-06 there were a couple of things I wrote down.
and 03-06-06 there were some other things I wrote down about the same person.
and then I will be able to backtrack this information
How do I do this.
Mikael
I enter personnel data into a table through a form. The same person may have multiple records in the table. With each record there are yes/no boxes to be checked if that person is verified at a certain station. Let's say PERSON A has six records in the table. Let's say on one of those records he has StaPrimary yes/no box checked (or true).
I need a query to do the following: My query is to find out if any person listed in the table does not have any StaPrimary yes/no boxes checked. My dilemma is when I do the query if Person A has six records and one of the records has the StaPrimary yes/no box checked his name will still show up in the query because he has other recrods with the StaPrimary yes/no box not checked. I want to check all of each persons records in the table and if they have one StaPrimary yes/no box checked I do not want there name to show up in the query. How do I do that?
Thanks for your help
I have an Access Database and I want to split up one column into multiple columns. The one column has multiple rows that relate to one person, so for instance I have the following:I am taking information from both tables and I want to create a query but I need to separate out the mother, father, and guardian with the names attached
So from the Child table :
Joe Smith Address Phone
The query that I created is from two tables, the child table and the family table: ( I used the dashes just for it to be easier to read)
------Child Table/PrimaryKey --------Family Table---------------------
First Name--- Last Name--- First Name--- Last Name--- Relationship
Joe ----------------Smith ----------Jane --------Doe-------------Mother
Joe ----------------Smith ----------John---------Smith---------- Father
So in this scenario I need to get the name of the second parent in another column....meaning have all the parents appear on the same line for this child, and each child there after..
So I need it to look like this:
------Child Table/PrimaryKey --------Family Table---------------------
First Name------ Last Name------ First Name------ Last Name------ Relationship------ 2First Name------2Last Name------2Relationship
Joe----------------Smith------------ Jane-------------- Doe------------- Mother-----------John---------------- Smith------------ Father
Hi all, just wondered if anyone would have an idea of the best way to implement this? I have a customer database, the relationships are below, and currently have done searching by town/city, street, purchase date, and also searching by area. But now the person i created it for wants to be able to search by 'groups of areas'. He has written how he would like to be able to search and they often include 3, 4, or 5 areas grouped together as one, and in only one or two instances he has included a small town aswell as a few areas.
Basically, it's been a while since i actually made the database (a year or so) and have not been using access much at all, so i'm having a bit of trouble working out how i'm gonna go about it and would like some idea's :D . I'm sure once i get back into the swing of it i'll be ok, but i feel like a newbie again at the moment :o :rolleyes:
Many thanks for any help you can give.

I created the below query to come up with a new form. When I enter a single parameter, it works fine. When I modify the code and enter multiple patameters, it also works fine if I do not enter any information for the parameters. But once I enter one of the parameters information, then it does not come up with anything. I double checked and made sure it was typed in correctly. Is there a trick when entering multiple parameters on a query?
SELECT [JE 06 Log].[Operational Region Name], [JE 06 Log].[Period Name], [JE 06 Log].[Source System], [JE 06 Log].[Source Name], [JE 06 Log].[Category Name], [JE 06 Log].[Associated Category Name], [JE 06 Log].[JE Name], [JE 06 Log].[JE Base #], [JE 06 Log].Area, [JE 06 Log].[Line Description], [JE 06 Log].[Natural Account], [JE 06 Log].Description, [JE 06 Log].[JE Entry Date], [JE 06 Log].[Debit Amount], [JE 06 Log].[Credit Amount], [JE 06 Log].Amount
FROM [JE 06 Log]
WHERE ((([JE 06 Log].[Period Name])=[Enter Period]) AND (([JE 06 Log].[Source Name])=[Enter Path]) AND (([JE 06 Log].[JE Base #])=[Enter Base Number]) AND (([JE 06 Log].[Natural Account])=[Enter Natural Accnt])) OR ((([Enter Period]) Is Null) AND (([Enter Path]) Is Null) AND (([Enter Base Number]) Is Null) AND (([Enter Natural Accnt]) Is Null));
The user wants all the non-basic functionality of the ribbon hiden. To accomplish that by doing the usual stuff:
File >> Options >> Current Database >> Allow Full Menus (unchecked)
Everything worked as expected, but we came across an issue. The user needs to open a report in "print preview" and they need to be able to export their report to excel. The "print preview" ribbon tab is there, but it is not showing the "Data" area, where all the export options are.
How can I do this without a costume ribbon?
Maybe there is a way of manipulating which areas of the ribbon/tabs/areas/controls are enabled from VBA?
I have an empty database, copies of which will be used in a number of locations. Before a copy is sent out to the user some data, specific to the user's location, needs to be entered into a total of 40+ tables . I have tried to do this using a series of Update and Insert queries but find that not all of the changes have been successful.
It seems as if a block of several tables is missed every so often through the list, as if Access has had trouble doing the writes quickly enough and skipped some.
I have looked for some method of forcing each query to complete its writes before moving on to the next one, but have found nothing so far.
The database is self-contained and will be run on a PC, not on a server.
What I am looking for I guess is the Access equivalent to the Commit command used in other systems.
Will someone please tell me, is there anything like this In Access 2000?
I have one table named Entry. This table have account number,work organization, price, date and etc.
I use a combo boxes in form which is connected to query and I can easily choose one account number,one work organization and date to see an report. There is also a possibility to left some of the fields blank, it will bring report if is null.
Now I need to make a form that have a possibility to bring up a report for multiple selections of account number and work organization?
I have developed a database which has required many checkbox fields to enable analysis. It requires to have the facility to input random/variable date ranges for statistical purposes.
I have built a query which obtains the counts of multiple fields using the following parameters in Query Builder in Access 2010. Although this comes up with the correct results for these multiple fields when I try introduce date range the results come up blank for all results.
An example of the parameters used for one of the checkbox fields in Query Builder is as follows:
Field: SumAnger: Sum([Anger]*-1)
Table: Default as only one table
Total: Expression
Show: Checked
This works fine.
My latest parameters for the date range are this:
Field: [cDate]
Table: Default as only one table
Total: WHERE Corrected! Whoops Copy & Paste Typo. Too early AM!
Show: Checked or Unchecked makes no difference
Criteria: Between [From Date:] And [To Date:]
This gives a statement in SQL view of:
SELECT Sum([Anger]*-1) AS SumAnger, Sum([Anxiety]*-1) AS SumAnxiety, Sum([Depression]*-1) AS SumDepression, Sum([Listening]*-1) AS SumListenig, Sum([Psychosis]*-1) AS SumPsychosis, Sum([Stress]*-1) AS SumStress, Sum([Other]*-1) AS SumOther, tblCommsLog.[cDate]
FROM tblCommsLog
WHERE (((tblCommsLog.[cDate]) Between [From Date:] And [To Date:]));
what I need to get this to work in Query Builder or failing that recommend some VBA script/code with embedded SQL to achieve the required report.
I got a problem regarding query work week in database.
The database contain data of year 2006 and 2007. When i query about work week, some record is missing.
i wrote the sql statement as
SELECT * FROM TBL WHERE FORMAT(MYDATE, 'WW', 1, 2) = 1 AND YEAR(2007);
There is one record missing... which is 31/12/2006 record.
So any idea to eliminate this??
I'm very new to Access, Macros, and VBA. Basically I have a form in ContinuousForm format that has a delete button next to each record. It's been working fine for the past few hours but for some reason Access can't delete the corresponding record(s) (DeleteRecord) now. The button is run by a macro that's made by a wizard.
Also, is there an appropriate way to show code (if that is the term used) for Macros?
I have a database with a Supply Receipt Form. The first field in the form is a combobox for the user to select a material/supply. I'd like for the form to open to a new record every time. When I use:
DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec
in the Form On Open property, I lose the ability to select the material/supply. Same thing happens when I set the Data Entry property to Yes.
I have a data base in which there is a table where each record describe properties of one fishing trip. The first column in the table is a number (unique but not autonumber format) and I already made 10,000 records with only this index number . Now me and others in my lab are entering data to this table for each of the records.
The data entry is done using form which show one record at a time (lets call it "sail_info_F").
I made another form which has only two elements:
1. text box in which I enter a number
2. button which opens the data entry form ("sail_info_F") showing the record with the same index number as the number I enter on the text box.
(the code for this button is "DoCmd.OpenForm "sail_info_F", , , "[RECORD_NUMBER]=" & Me.TEXT_BOX_NAME"
So far so good and it does open the form in the wanted record. BUT when the form opens I can't use the buttons I have placed in this forms which move between records. Those were made with the wizard, and are working OK when I open the form directly without using the second form (The one which opens "sail_info_F" on a specific record).
I have created a system consisting of a data entry form etc. It was originally connected to one record source exported from a sharepoint site.I had to add a field to the sharepoint site and so i created this additional field and re-exported the data and changed the forms record source and all occurences in the code of previous to new record source.
However, this change of record source produces the following error on every single event.The expression On Load you entered as the event property setting produced the following error: member already exists in an object from which this object module derives.
I tried to break the code as soon as it hits the load function to track the error - but it doesn't even run this function so the code is not executing at all.When i connect back to the old record source it works fine.
Hi,
I've set up a database and set up User-Level security for each user.
While they are entering data, can I go in and change some items in design view?
thanks,
sjl
I have a part table summary with various quantities 1-1000 and want to create a new table where part number repeats with quantity of 1 corresponding back to the sum. If part 123456=20 then this would repeat 20 x and each record Qty=1
Start with summary
--================
Part Qty
111000 2
222000 3
End result all Qty=1
--================
Part Qty
111000 1
111000 1
222000 1
222000 1
222000 1
--================
I stared with a loop and was able to get an append query to work referring to the quantity value (3) for one record from tbl_temp to tbl_main, but not really sure how to advance through many records.
For n = 1 To [Forms]![MainScreen]![Text7]
DoCmd.OpenQuery "qry_Update_Qty"
'DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec
Next n
maybe a do while or some other approach?
I have a table where 4 different people enter their amount of work sheets they complete each day via a form. Each person could have a different total each day. Example:
AJ=5
CH=10
MH=7
CA=3
Each person will have a entry for each work day of the month.
I am creating a query that needs to show each persons total for a month. I know how to get the month but how can I total each persons page count all together and then separately? Example:
All four combined total page count
AJ Page count individually
CH page count individually
MH page count individually
Ca page count individually
Thanks for all help

dteBase = Date
Else
dteBase = SpecDate
End If
cust_birthday = DateDiff("yyyy", dteDOB, dteBase)
cust_age = DateSerial(Year(dteBase), Month(dteDOB), Day(dteDOB))

I have a form where one person wil insert a new record and click on a button that will display his login name and date she/he inserted the new record. A second person will later check if everything was entered correctly and this person will also press a button that will insert his login name and date in a field.The thing is that the same person can't do the quality check and insert the new record. So if in the field "PersonPassQA" is filled in and the person will do the same in "PersonQA", she/he should get a warning and the field should stay empty. This is the code I use to pass the PersonPassQA:
Code:
Private Sub Command24_Click()
'Date pass to QA and person passing to QA
Me.[DatePassedQA] = Date
Me.[PersonPassQA] = Environ("Username")
Me.Refresh
End Sub
[code]...

View 1 Replies View RelatedHow to concatenate a number of fields from a table into a query.
The fields are:
Prefix
Firstname
MiddleInitial
MiddleInitial2
MiddleInitial3
Surname
Note that there will be varying combinations: some people will have a Prefix, Firstname then surname (no middle initials), so I would want to display "Mr Joe Bloggs". But others could have no Prefix but two middle initials, so "Joe P J Bloggs".
I have a search form built that depending on the dropdown selection on the form, it will run a query to SQL Server 2008 and provide data. There are 5 SQL Server db's so there are 5 different queries. I have each SQL Server linked to the Access DB. When I moved to someones else's computer I got a ODBC Call Failed message. In order to fix this, I had to recreate the links on that person's machine, then change the SQL code in the query with the new name of the linked DB.
