Mar 17, 2008

Hi all, wondering if anyone can help me.

Im trying to a run a query to see the results of my table. but i am experincing problems, when use the SUM function.

I have constructed a query with three fields.
1) QTY.
2) Cost
3) Total.

what i would like is to be able to Multiply QTY & Cost to get the total.

so whan QTY Is 0 and Cost is £0.00. the query recongises it and changes the total should then be £0.00.

any advice on enabling the query is welcome.

Forms :: Unable To Multiply Values Of Two Number Fields Together

Aug 8, 2015

I'm trying to multiply the values of two number fields together, but it is not working. I used to be able to do this easily in earlier versions of Access. Here's the problem:

On the form, I need field A x field B to appear in field C. I've tried this as an expression in the build event function on the control, but it is not working. My code reads as follows: = (field A) * (field B).

Multiply Parameter Queries!

Apr 13, 2007

i have a Query where i have Criteria for two fields as the following:

Field :Date of Incident
Crirteria: [Forms]![frmSearchStudent&Date]![cboStartDate] And [Forms]![frmSearchStudent&Date]![cboEndDate]

Field: StudentSurname
Criteria: [Forms]![frmSearchStudent&Date]![Combo0]

Occasionally, staff may just want all incidents (records) to be shown for the selected StudentSurname and so, just select the surname and leave the date fields blank.

i tried the following:
Field :Date of Incident
Crirteria: [Forms]![frmSearchStudent&Date]![cboStartDate] And [Forms]![frmSearchStudent&Date]![cboEndDate]
Or: [Forms]![frmSearchStudent&Date]![cboStartDate] Is Null And [Forms]![frmSearchStudent&Date]![cboEndDate] Is Null

Field: StudentSurname
Criteria: [Forms]![frmSearchStudent&Date]![Combo0]

then when i tested this by leaving the date fields blank and selecting a valid student surname it simply returned all incidents (records) for ALL students not the selected one.

is it possible to achieve this? if so, could someone please help!

How To Multiply Values In A Form

Mar 22, 2005

Hi. I'm new to Access and I wonder if someone could help me with this problem I am having while constructing a database. We need to create a database of reservations to a program we offer. We will need to store the quantity of reservations per person. What we needed to do is multiply the quantity of reservations by the value of each reservation and get a 3rd field with the final amount. So we need a field with the result of the multiplication of the quantity of reservations by the value of each reservation, which is a fixed amount. I'm having problems getting access to do this, I get an "error" message on the resulting field. Can somebody help me with this?

Thanks.

Multiply A Currency Field With Code

Apr 27, 2005

Currently i have:

If CIS = False Then
CIS_Payment = "£0.00"
Else
CIS_Payment = "£20.00"
End If

which works ok but what i want to do but do not know the correct way/syntax is:

If CIS = False Then
CIS_Payment = "£0.00"
Else
CIS_Payment = "Labour_Total*18/100"
End If

Where CIS_Payment and Labour_Total are currency fields, and CIS is a checkbox updated using an update query with the same info as detailed in another table (Couldnt get the conditions to work referencing the checkbox in the other table, so duplicated the box in both tables and used a query to sync)

Any ideas???

Modules & VBA :: Function That Loops Through A Set Of Fields Seeking A Non Zero Value?

Apr 17, 2014

The idea is that I have a table with products. It is joined to another table that has each products ID and then a series of fields that correspond to each month of this year (so 12 fields). These fields contain how many of each product sold in that month. However some products did not appear in inventory until a few months into the year, so they have zero's for those months in which they didn't exist yet.

What I need to do is find the first month that each product went on sale, and pass that field back to my main table to do calculations with.

First I tried to do with with a query, but I ran into a road block and realized that maybe a query wasn't best as I likely needed a loop. So I started writing a function at that point... but it is obviously non functional.

As an example, if I had a product like this:

Product: X
SalesID: 1111
Price: 9.99
Month 1: 0
Month 2: 0
Month 3: 1582
Month 4: 2790
Month 5: 4501
Month 6: 4210

Then the idea of this function would be to look at Month 1, see if it contained a zero. if it did, move to month 2. If it doesn't, then send whatever that value is to a new field in the database.

So in the new table, I would have:

Product: X
SalesID: 1111
Price: 9.99
Month 1: 1582
Month 2: 2790
Month 3: 4501
Month 4: 4210

Tables :: Turning Off Rounding Function In Calculated Fields

Is there anyway to turn off the rounding function in calculated fields - I need to divide a currency amount by a whole number to calculate the number of full coin bags that will be needed (bags contain different totals according to the coin value) - a whole number.

Then the result is used to calculate how much loose coin will remain.

But regardless of the field type and/or the format, the number rounds when I reduce the decimal places to zero. I need the result to be the whole number and to calculate as the whole number.

Using Countif Function For Multiple Fields From Specific Record

May 28, 2015

Using Access 2010

I'm an expert user in Excel and am trying to learn more about Access, so I relate many of the functions to what they are called in Excel. And what I'm trying to do right now is count the number of fields in a specific record where the value is a specific result (CountIf).

For example, I need to return the number of fields in a specific record where the value is "Meets Requirements". The specific record will be determined by the Name, Contact, and Email fields (which together comprise the Primary Key).

Is there a way to count the values in multiple fields that equal "Meets Requirements"?

How To Handle Null Fields Requiring Numeric And Text Function Simultaaneously

Jan 8, 2007

Hi friends,

I am new to this forum, and I am facing a problem while learning MS-Access.

I am preparing a database that stores the marks obtained by students in a particular paper in addition to their particulars in tables.
A query is then generated to canculate the aggregate marks and result (Pass/Fail) for the student. It is then presented in a report fomatted as a marksheet, as well as one tabulation chart.

The database is very crude in format, but I am happy with it since I do not know programming at all, and still I could make it.
I have used in built menu of "ms-access" and mouse clicks only for generating query. It was a learn by doing method.

The problem is that my marksheets require absent students to be marked as "ABSENT" or something of that kind. If I convert my Null values to :

Expr2: IIf(IsNull([E_1]),"ABSENT",[E_1])

It shows ABSENT for null value, but refuses to make column total for E_1; On the other hand if I do not enter such expression, it makes column total in tabulation report, but fails to mark "ABSENT" to those who did not appear. So I have to lose one thing to gain another, while I need both.

Can anybody help me at this?

Forms :: Manage MsgBox With Blank Required Fields By Function In A Module

May 11, 2013

I created this function to manage a MsgBox containing all required fields with no data:

Code:
Function FormValidation(TheForm As Form) As Boolean
Dim boolResponse As Boolean
Dim strError As Variant
Dim ctl As Control
boolResponse = True
strError = Null

[code]...

Then, I have a Form_BeforeUpdate event, where I wanna place the function, which contains also some VBA code to manage duplicates records:

Code:
Private Sub Form_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer)
Dim rst As DAO.Recordset, dbs As DAO.Database, strICAO As String
Dim ctl As Control, txtMsg As String

[code]....

Now, how to add the function in this event to get these two results:

1. if required fields are blank and I press OK on the MsgBox, the routine must stop;
2. the focus must go in the first required blank control.

I tried some options but I get different kind of malfunctions: no custom message for duplicate records but only the access default one, "go to next record" feature with tab key not working and so on.

General :: Multiply Different Amount Of Hours By Different Amount Of Rates

Jul 17, 2014

I am trying to make a report in which I can see the amount of money that I have to pay weekly to an employee. To explain myself clearer, I have different rates for each employee. For example:

NameNormalPayRateVacationPayRateSickPayRateOvertimePayRateStandbyPayRate
John Smith$15$10$15$30$8
Ken Jonson$10$8$10$20$8

I am doing this in a query. So what I want to be able to do is, for example, take 4 hours that the employee worked at NormalPayRate and multiply it. But if tomorrow the employee worked at a different rate, for example 3 hours overtime, I want those 3 hours multiplied by OvertimePayRate.

The way I saw it on my Google researches, is that they have only one rate and the amount will be [SumOfHours]*[Rate]. But how can I tell my query to skip, for example, one rate because the employee didn't work at that rate that day. So I can have different amount for the different rates.

By the way, entering the information I can divide at what rate the employee worked x day. So if the employee work 6 hours at regular, and later on 4 hours at standby, I have those information separated in my table.

Results that I am getting: I can easily get the amount in money multiplying the whole hours by a rate, so my result in my report will be multiplied by the same rate.

I am using Access 2013 ...

Forms :: SUM Function Produces Error From Calculated Function

Jan 30, 2014

I have a project at hand and it's been a predecessor of mine and client has asked me to do some work on it and extend functionality - but I have not really delved into Access before and I have had to worked my way through to this final snag :/

The Main Form has one sub form. This sub form allows the user to add multiple order items i.e. qty, stock, description from records within the system - fairly straight forward.At the last column of each row is the sub total of those particular items i.e.

Qty Unit | Item ID | Total
-----------------------
2 | 1234 | 80.00
------------------------
1 | 43526 | 20.00
------------------------
> | |

So the total is a function of =[Qty Unit] * [Unit Price].Then in the Footer of this SubForm is the Sub Total

=SUM([Qty Unit] * [Unit Price])

All fine and well..... However, the additional functionality kicks in.

Lets add the additional customer_id from the Main Form. Each Item bought is dependent on the customer_id i.e. they get special prices depending on who they are.So a New table is made which has the Item ID and SpecialPriceID (of a table to define as a specialPrice) and the Price linked to this Item and Special Price category. So say that there are two groups of users "wholesale" and "nonwholesale" these would be SP_1 and SP_2 and each client is defined either one of these, and each stock item has a Price for each SP_1 and SP_2. Hopefully I've explained myself there.

Back to the SubForm. So now the Total needs to calculated differently with needed the external customer_id from the Main Form.

Code:

Function CalculateSpecialPrice(ItemID As String, CustomerID As String, Unit As Integer)
Dim SPSelect As String
SPSelect = "SELECT Price FROM [Items_SpecialPrices] WHERE"
SPSelect = SPSelect & " ItemID = '" & ItemID
SPSelect = SPSelect & "' AND SpecialPriceID = (SELECT SpecialPriceID FROM Customers WHERE customer_id = " & CustomerID & ") "

[code]....

its the sub total I just keep on getting #Error on. I have even watched (using alerts) that the correct return variable is the same as the individual rows. This is the equation I used for the SubTotal within the footer.

=SUM(CalculateSpecialPrice([Item ID], [Form]![FormName]![CustomerID], [Qty Unit]))
#Error
