Forms :: Open A Specific PDF File Per Record With A Command Button

Apr 18, 2013

I need to open a specific pdf file per record by using a command button. The pdf files will all reside in a specific folder in a partition on my hard drive. Each pdf file will have a unique four digit file name e.g 1234.pdf.The file name will match a unique number allocated to each record. This number is generated by adding 1000 to the record ID.Record 10 will therefore have an associated pdf file name of 1010.pdf.I have created a text box field , named 'TestReportID', to capture the unique four digit number per record that I assume is needed to be referred to when setting up the code to find and display the correct related pdf file.

I have set up a command button on the records form and as simple test using the hyperlink address to the folder where the pdf files reside, I can open a pdf file by clicking on the command button but it does not matter what record is open when I click the command button, it will always open the same pdf file.If I don't identify a specific file name in the hyperlink address, when I click on the button it will display a file open dialog which lists all the relevant pdf files and I can then select and open the required file.I would like to cut out that step and get the correct file to open when I click the button.

General :: Locking Record File Types?

Aug 21, 2014

I have inherited a number of 2007 Access databases that have a PDF (Adobe Acrobat Document) as the file type for the locking record.

These databases seem significantly slower, and have more frequent "Not Responding" periods on the network - especially when compared to those with a standard ldb file type locking record.

What determines the file type for a locking record?

Can the Adobe locking record be changed to a ldb? and How?

Open And Excel File W/ Command Button?

Nov 3, 2006

I am trying to open a workbook with a command button on a form however the path to the file is giving me a fit. The path for the file location contains spaces and I am going blind trying to figure out how to rectify the path. Heres the line. I am sure someone here will see this problem quick! Thanks.

Private Sub Command0_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_Command0_Click

Dim stAppName As String

stAppName = "Excel.exe N:OPSCOMMONOpsResearchContact CenterDI CCL Reporting dBApps by Agent.xls"
Call Shell(stAppName, 1)

Exit_Command0_Click:
Exit Sub

Err_Command0_Click:
MsgBox Err.Description
Resume Exit_Command0_Click

End Sub

Heres the mess I made out of it:
stAppName = "Excel.exe N:OPSCOMMONOpsResearchContact" & Chr(32) & "CenterDI" & Chr(32) & "CCL" & Chr(32) & "Reporting" & Chr(32) & "dBApps" & Chr(32) & "by" & Chr(32) & "Agent.xls"""

:confused:

Command Button To Open Specific Record

Oct 6, 2004

Hi All,

I have a form called "frmProducts" which is linking to table "tblproducts".

Easy Enough...

The form shows all the Products information (fields).
I have a "More Info" command button (cmdMoreInfo) next to every record in the form.

When the command button is clicked I would like it to open up another form "frmMoreInfo".
But On frmMoreInfo I would only like it to show that specific product.

I have tried the following code on the on click event on the command button but it was always asking me for the value of Form![frmMoreInfo]![txtInternalCode]

Code:Private Sub Command12_Click()On Error GoTo Err_Command12_ClickDim stDocName As StringDim stLinkCriteria As StringstDocName = "frmMoreInfo" stLinkCriteria = "Form![frmMoreInfo]![txtInternalCode]=" & Me![txtInternalCode]DoCmd.OpenForm stDocName, , , stLinkCriteriaExit_Command12_Click:Exit SubErr_Command12_Click:MsgBox Err.DescriptionResume Exit_Command12_Click End Sub

Any Ideas?

Access Record Locking Confusion

Oct 6, 2006

In OPTIONS -> Advanced I have the option Open Database using Record-Level locking ticked.

What is strange is record level locking works on Form1 (Form1.recordlocks= Edited) as long as Form2 has Form2.recordlocks = No Locks. If I change the Form2.recordlocks = Edited, Form1's locking becomes page level locking.

This is even true if Form2 is not open...

Additionally, Form2's locking is always page level locking if Form2.recordlock = edited.

I would like all my forms to perform RECORD level locking not page Level locking. How do I accomplish this.

I've been trying to resolve this issue for about 2 months now but no answers from the community.

Thanks for any comments.

Microsoft Access Record-Locking Information

Feb 8, 2006

Hello Everyone,

I have an access file (a Form) that I put in the network and it's accessable thru a web site inside our company(intranet). I setup the database to be on shared mode so everyone can access it at the same time. The problem I'm having is that when someone open the file, access creates another file called "Microsoft Access Record-Locking Information" which still active even after users close the form and their web browser and this doesn't allow me to edit the file if I need to make changes. Is there a way to deactivate this record-locking file? The only way I found out to be able to access the file after someone used it, is having the user go into their Task Manager and delete MSACCESS.EXE from the Processes tab. Any inputs would be greatly appreciated.

Backup Current Access File Using Vba While The File Is Open

Jul 11, 2007

I have a button in the form of the current access file. What I want to do is when the user click on the button,
triggered the vba to backup current access file. But since the file is currently open, is this possible? If yes, may I know how to do it with vba?

I have tried two methods but failed:
1) Use copytofile method, but I get permission denied due to file open;
2) Use dbengine.compactdatabase method, but it also has problem if the file is open.

Forms :: Open Word Document Via Access Command Button

Feb 4, 2014

I am creating a database. I have all my forms, queries, tables, reports just as I need them. However, I would like to have a command button on my switchboard that will pull from a query to feed to a Word document (that's actually a letter on my company letterhead). I know a Macro has to be involved with this, but again, I have little to no knowledge of Macros. Also, I would like to be prompted to enter a client ID number when I click on this command button (because I only want to print a letter for a new client, not all of them).

Modules & VBA :: Record Locking Multi-users Over Network Split Database / Access 2007

Aug 5, 2015

I have designed a database which I intend to split for multi-users to access from one front end icon on a shared folder at work. I have designed a form bound to cmr record table and on it a subform to another table where cmrs activities will be saved. The form has buttons to and blank controls.

User can create a new activity entry by typing into the blank controls and pressing the save button which saves to the activity table. the edit button extracts a selected records details (selected on the subform) from the activity table and populates the blank field for a user to edit and then hit save to save changes. The delete button deletes a selected record from the activity table. I intend to have multi-users either accessing, viewing and a possibly editing the same customer at the same time. The simultaneous viewing is essential but the simultaneous editing, though not desired is inevitably going to occur.

What I would like to know is:

1. Can you lock an individual record in a table or does the whole table have to be locked. E.g If Colleague 1 is editing Cmr A's record in Table1 can he lock it so Colleague 2 can view and edit Cmr B's record in Table1

2.Can Colleague 1 access/read Cmr A's record in Table1 to retrieve details toe the form controls if Colleague 2 is viewing or editing Cmr A's record in Table1

3. If record lock is possible, how can I initiate it in my example code below.Edit activity record Code

Code:
Private Sub Edit_A_Click()
'Get Data to text box control
With Me.R_P_Data_P_Subfrm.Form
Me.txtrID = !rID
Me.txtrID.Tag = !rID
Me.txtrefNo = !refNo
Me.cmbrpc = !rPC

[code]....

Opening A Password Protected Excel File From A Command Button In Access

Dec 22, 2006

Hi All,
I have three excel files (ActualHires.xls, ActualPromotions.xls and
ActualSeparation.xls). These are password protected files (with the
same password). They are linked to an access database and whenever the
files are opened, one must supply the password and click the 'Enable
automatic refresh button.' What I was wondering was if this could be
done in access with a command button. I have pasted some code below
that I found but now I'm getting an error.
This is the code:

Dim BookNames As Variant
Dim B As Long

BookNames = Array("O:ExcelFilesActualHires.xls",
"O:ExcelFilesActualPromotions.xls",
"O:ExcelFilesActualSeparations.xls")

For B = LBound(BookNames) To UBound(BookNames)
WorkBooks.Open FileName:=BookNames(B), _
UpdateLinks:=3, Password:="*******"
WorkBooks(B).Close SaveChanges:=False
Next B

But when I click the button, I get this error:
Run-time error '9' Subscript out of range.

and this line is highlighted:
WorkBooks(B).Close SaveChanges:=False

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Microsoft Access Cannot Open This File

Feb 14, 2007

We have a database on our network server which I cannot open. I get the following error everytime I try to access it.

This file is located outside your or on an untrusted site. Microsoft Access will not open the file due to potential security problems. To open the file, copy it to your machine or an accessible network location.

I think it has to do with a Microsoft Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8 security update. However, I cannot find the update to uninstall. Others can access the database located on the network, but some get a pop-up that allows them to say "no" and access the file. The pop-up has the following message:

Security Warning: Unsafe expressions are not blocked. Do you want to block unsafe expressions?

Can anyone help with this?

Access Wont Open A File

Jan 22, 2008

The file is part of a students exam, so a bit urgent!

The file just will not open, either by double click or open in Access. Tried holding shift, not the problem, not hidden or anything, just that trying to open brings up the first warning box (we have very strict security on students computers!) but after that nothing, no sign of an error or anything having been loaded. Tried compress & repair and the microsoft tool for compressing JET files, that did give an error when it tried, just saying error compacting database.

I've tried importing the file into a new database using access, that gives no results, but importing tables into excel does!

Anyone anyideas short of paying for it to be done?

:confused:
