Need A Form To Browse Folder Location
Jul 21, 2006
I would like to create a form to allow the user to choose a location to place a file. I would prefer to have a browse command button so when he/she clicks the windows explorer view opens and the user can select the location. I have seen this done, but I am not sure where to start. If anyone has an example to show me, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!

Hi there,
I have a form which allows a user to click a button, select a image file and it then references that path instead of embedding it. At the same time I would like to write some code that will copy the image from wherever it is located and copy it into the application pathimages folder.
Can anyone help?

I have a folder with Access files, subfolders, and some .vbs files in it. It requires one person to navigate through a setup process. Once the setup is completed, they need to copy the folder and its contents to a location on a shared drive, which is unknown to me and will be chosen by the user at the site. There could be many sites.
It basically works like this:
Files are downloaded to C:Program Files.
A vbscript is run and extracts a folder directly to the C:Drive and opens it. I'll call it C:Test.
The user manually moves the BE file to a shared drive.
The user opens the FE file and is walked through using the Linked Table Manager.
The user then follows a series of forms to input data.
After this, the FE closes and another DB opens.
The second DB walks them through the Linked Table Manager and closes.
Option #1 At this point I would like to have a script and have it copy that folder, C:Test, and its contents, and have a dialog box open telling the user to paste it in a location where all users have access to.
Option #2 A script that will backup the folder and all its contents to a shared location selected by the user.
Either option will l allow others to navigate to that location, copy the folder, and paste the folder to their C: Drive.

I'm currently working on a database to track and inventory documents in my organization similar to a library catalog, but with a digital archive as well. I'll need the ability to "attach" documents to records in the main inventory (though using links instead of storing it in the db) and have the documents live in a centrally accessible location on our shared server.
I will need to have this function work through a few different tables and in a few different iterations, but I'm trying to work on the simplest part first, which is attaching a thumbnail/preview of a given document to the record for that document.
I've got some VBA working well which opens the file picker and copies the file to a directory relative to the DB. It also creates a folder with each employee's ID number if it doesn't exist already (which it gets from the Windows log in) and adds "Copied_" to the front of the file.
Now I'm trying to get the VBA code to interact with the record. Presumably I need to tell the form button I'm using to launch the VBA code to pass the primary key of the record being displayed to VBA. Then, at the end of the VBA code I need to take that value and find the record again from VBA so I can update the MediaThumbnailLink in the original record.
Does this order of operations make sense? If so, how should I go about passing these values back and forth and writing the new link value?
Here's the VBA I'm using so far...
Code:
Option Compare Database
Public Sub GoCopyThumbnail()
Dim fDialog As FileDialog
Set fd = Application.FileDialog(msoFileDialogFilePicker)
Dim varFile As Variant
Dim LUser As String
[Code] ....

I adapted the findform from the address book sample database. After the search is performed I would like it to be able to continue to browse (continue scrolling through) the rest of contacts rather than excluding everything but matches. More like a go to kind of search rather than a select query. I'm betting this is a simple fix (I hope), I just don't know what it would be. Any help?

I am designing a form and I need to add a Browse button to it. I need the Browse Button to point to the "My Computer". Once that file is selected I need it to fill in the hyperlink box. I have the hyperlink text box on the form and it works if you manually type a link in. I would like it to auto fill-in with the selected file.
Any help would be great!!
Thank you :)

Below is a pic of the form I'm having trouble with. the poject is a database of golf courses. there is a form for entering/viewing information for each hole for each course. basically each record has a thumbnail pic of the hole.
That browse button needs to do something. It needs to open a browse dialog box, similar to the browse dialog box you get on many other programs. The idea is that the user selects the picture from the browse dialog box and the file name of this picture is put in the PhotoFile field.
I have no idea where to start on this, but I did check out the Northwind database that comes with Access - its similar but has loads of other functions bundled with it that I don't need and doesn't work without these functions.
I'm no programming genius either! so any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I'm trying to automate a process of selecting a set of file/s and move them in a folder. When I click on a button, it should open a current folder that is setup in the code.
Lets say that I have a folder C:documents est, and very time I click on the button, it should open the dialog box with that path so I can select the files from another folder, drag them there and they will be saved in that folder.
This will form part of wider automation that will send an email stating that those file/s where placed in that folder.
I have in the same form where the button is placed, 3 check boxes that needs to be passed to the email as well that one or all the files where placed in the folder.

I have a form with a sub form (ms access). On the subform are a number of textboxes for input by the user. What I need is for the sub form to "remember" the last textbox it was in when the form closes. Then, when the form opens again, the focus in the sub form "returns" to the last text box it was at when the user wants to continue entering data.... This resolves a problem with the user overwriting existing data on the subform because they "forgot" to go to the textbox where further data needs to be entered.
I set up an "extra" field in the database, and included it on the sub form so it could be used as areference point. The text box is called "NameFld". However, my further attempts at resolving this issue via vba are not working.
Any help would be appreciated.

Greetings. :)
I am trying to position opened forms so that they are cascaded on the screen. I have discovered the movesize action (for the DoCmd) and Move property of a form (for Acc 2002/2003). However, if the application is opened up on different monitors (e.g.; 17" or 19"), the relative location of the opened form is not the same (i.e.; on the bigger monitor the opened form is too far over to the right and too high).
What I want to do is ...
When the subsequent (or second) form is opened up I would like to find the absolute location of the first form (always centered). This way I will be able to reposition the second and third forms relative to the first form.
Is this possible?
I'm having trouble referencing the first form from within the second form. The first form is still open, but they are not linked forms (not parent/child). I've tried:
forms("firstformname").left
forms("firstformname").top
but this does not work.
I've gone to online help and I've looked around in the newsgroups. But can't find any info. Anybody out there will suggestions?
Regards,
SueB

I have stumbled through making a few new forms and tables for my new job, and have done alright so far (even if it takes me forever to do so), but there is one thing that keeps tripping me up. I just cannot figure out how to do it, even by looking at the designs and properties of other tables/forms.
Part of my form requires me to input location details. A table is setup with every City, State and Zipcode for usage on the form. Our old form was designed to auto-fill (is that even the right term?) the City and State fields upon entry of a Zipcode. These are all coming off the same table, and it works on our old form, but I cannot seem to replicate it on the new one.
I have 2 other issues with the form, and they are also both related to this auto-fill/auto-lookup hangup. Another table is set up with employee IDs, and their corresponding Last name, First name and Middle Initial. I'd like to be able to type in the ID and have the next field automatically enter the corresponding name. Similarly, I need to enter certain other data, and I would like the next field to fill in a short description of said data.
Can anyone help me or point me in the right direction? Like I said, I've pretty much made everything else work by learning from the designs of other tables/queries/forms we have, and by trial and error. But this final hitch seems insurmountable.

Okay, so I know how to open variable folders with a button or combobox from Access...but I think I want to have my cake and eat it, too;) Is there any way that an Access form and an Explorer folder can be meshed into one object?
I had an idea where after the user selected a value from the combobox (afterupdate) then the folder corresponding to the combobox value would open (this part I know how to do)...but the folder would open in a specific part of the form. Like binding windows explorer into an object box and then having it jump to different folders as the user changes the combobox selection, aand the user would still be able to drag stuff into WE from the desktop or wherever.
Am I being vague? Can something like this be done? I think if I just knew how to open a folder in a specific place and size I could work something out.
Any help with this would be awesome, I haven't been able to find anything like this in the forums!

I have an inventory of equipment that is assigned to different locations. When repair is needed, the equipment is brought in and swapped with a loaner. How can I update on a form the location change from "A" to "Shop" that will show up on the related equipment table? I have "Location" in the table, but don't know if I need something to the effect of "NewLocation" to assist in showing the equipment swap.
